A dark, funky, dive bar playing great music, great drinks, and the food matches the rest of the greatness. It's the kind of place you could and would want to be a regular at if you lived nearby. I want to be a regular, and I live 500 miles away. But you can bet when I'm heading that way, I'm stopping in again. I had skipped lunch and was really hungry, but didn't want to get something real heavy either, and I though I had "sort of" done that. I was totaly wrong. Blue Crab Ravioli in an artichoke/spinache alfredo sauce, topped with toasted/roasted mozzarella... I know what you're thinking, cream sauce and cheese? How is that light you knucklehead? Well, I was thinking that ravioli, usually served with 4-6 pieces would be just drizzled in this topping. NOPE. Scalding hot cast iron skillet loaded with ravioli, in that heavy, cheese/cream sauce. But here's how good it was. I took half to go, and had 1/4 of that when I got home 2 days later (always carry a cooler bag kids...) Then I had the remainder for lunch one day. Wow! Okay as a person visiting the town for 2 days... SKIP THIS PLACE! I'll be the first to admit the food is DELICIOUS. The service? Horrendous. 1.) Had to continuously interrupt the bartender talking with their friend at the bar. 2.) a DOG was behind the bar. Never seen that before. A public place. No pets allowed. And yet, for the 2nd day in a row a dog is running free. Cute and fluffy! But not the place. 3.) made a very specific request, and would've been fine if the answer was no but the bartender said very enthusiastically "SURE!" And then once the bill arrived I was charged double. I explained the situation "oh, my bad, I misheard you and charged you for 2." That was it. Emo Night!!!! Every emo anthem was played! We picked this place as it was one of the only restaurants that were open at night. We had just arrived into town and were hungry. There weren't any vegan items so I did the best I could. I asked for a flatbread without cheese. We got drinks but they weren't really strong. Overall we loved having emo night and a meal to eat. They also had games in the back to play, which we got. It was a great night! We did try to go back the next day, but there was a cover, so we decided to go to another bar instead. Sunday Funday at this local dive bar did not disappoint. We snagged seats right at the bar so we could get the local experience. Mom and Dad started with a round of cocktails, then moved on to some local beers while I people-watched from my spot on the floor. 1 star for service, 3 stars for quality. It was a Sunday night and they weren't busy. I asked the bartender for a water a few times, but I never got it. I ordered the pepperoni and sausage flatbread. They made it for me about 10 minutes until 10. The kitchen closes at 10, so I was happy they did this. The kitchen adds one star from the zero stars that the bartender gets. Word to the wise to other tourists: this is a local dive bar that seemed to have more of the LGBTQ crowd, so that could be why there is such lousy service here compared to the rest of the strip. read more

My three friends and I were looking for a bar with live music for New Years. We live about an hour and a half from Hot Springs, so we just walked around and chose a place. Maxine's was awesome. The man taking cover charges was awesome, and even worked with us. The bartender was doing an amazing job, our drinks were amazing, and he made them very fast considering how busy he was. Ok. So first off this is a dive bar in the best sense. Normal hours are far later than this old man is awake, and most of the customers are old enough to be my grandkids. But on Sundays, they open at NOON. Old people rejoice. The bar area is the coolest place to sit, as the rest is even more rough around the edges. Bartenders are great and they make likely one of the most amazing full meal loaded Bloody Mary's. ( no need to order food with this one! ) The history of this former brothel should be enough to bring you in. For pizza, their deep dish is the real deal Chicago style. It takes a bit to be prepared, but that sucker is 3-5 lbs of goodness when it arrives. Be hungry. Starter salad was huge and more than enough for 2-3 to share. Just go. Also, I would recommend to watch a video of the original brothel and owner Maxine to get a feel of what it was! I feel they have failed to maintain that feeling of what it was and now more of an oddity for shock value. Deep dish pizza was OK and mixed drink tasted more like coolaid than alcohol mix. Maxine is everything you need out of a bar, they have food they have cocktails and they have a live venue in the back. You walk in and feel transported to a buesque show. I was absolutely obsessed with it. There is art all over the walls in this place, every single inch is covered. We had a great time stopping in for the Sunday happy hour. They had $10 loaded bloody Mary's as well as five dollar mimosas. We ended up going back later that night for the 9 PM karaoke. This is a dive bar, and your pizza is probably going to be made by drug dealers that have been dipping into their own supply all night long. This place is a true local dive... Food was good. Not my vibe. Service was weird but food was good so I don't regret going but the atmosphere was just so bizarre from walking in to no signage and eventually a staff member who kept putting his hair up and down from its pony told us oh just pick a seat and eventually we figured out to order at the bar. The vibe is super grungy and if you've ever been to the house on the rock, this is it in bar form. The decor is red light and oddities. The staff mingle with the customers like they're all friends & in a good and bad way. There were 3 bartenders & 1 seemed to be doing the most while the other 2 were goofing off They had a ton of regulars but weren't too welcoming for others. People crowded the walkways so it was a hassle to go to the bathroom. As for food, the mushrooms were really good but small portion for $12 Pizza was good. I wasn't a huge fan of the crust but the tomatoes/cheese were delicious. I like a charred crust but some of the toppings were too charred The drinks were excellent. I was bummed you can only get the loaded bloody Mary on Sundays bc seeing it on reviews is literally what made us go here but I got the fears & desire or something & it was like a strawberry lemonade. Pizza take 30+ mins so be prepared to wait. I saw a few salads go by and really wished I'd gotten one because they were made in a mixing bowl & looked so good! They don't let you take your shopping bags to the table which was weird so we had to leave our soap & hot sauce up front. They also have a strange bench under the table so it makes it hard to actually fit 4 people at a booth. The bathroom has no trash can for feminine products so I guess they want you to flush those & the plastic or hold it until you're done? So weird. The food was good but I wouldn't come back. We went on a Saturday night after the horse races and with a band playing. Place was packed with just a handful of service crew members to handle it. While wait times for the bar were a challenge and actual table service did not exist, this was the best deep dish pizza we have had in a long time. Well worth it. The bartender was friendly and helpful. We ordered two of the house cocktails, the Cajun Dip, and two VooDoo pasta dishes (one shrimp, one chicken). I have a feeling I'd appreciate this place a lot more if not experiencing it as a "diner". The Cajun Dip was the only thing we enjoyed. Otherwise, the pasta was bland and underwhelming. At the time of our visit I would consider this more of a self serve due to having to go up to the bartender for any and everything we needed. Our tab was for $87 including the two cocktails. I just moved back into town from Dallas, and I was looking forward to trying the deep dish. I love Chicago deep dish... I just ordered and I don't know what this is... But it's not a Chicago deep dish... Thick butter crust with a bland sauce on top... The bottom of the crust was hard to even chew... The cheese was sparse and there was no stretch when you pull a piece... Speaking of pulling a piece... It wasn't cut through mainly because the bottom of the crust was so hard... Literally the worst "Chicago style" pizza I have ever seen. The top was burnt and the pizza was literally liquid on uncooked dough. Like I started to pick a slice up (30 mins after this thing had been cooked because I got it to go) and it was like pulling a pork rib bone off the stack lol the slice just slid out of the pie. My wife wouldn't even eat it and we are pizza fanatics. I gave them 2 stars because the pepperoni bread was decent and the karaoke is something that you would only see in a meme.
