Baked Macaroni and Cheese was not good at all nor baked, had strings of shredded not melted cheese. Sadly disappointed.

Poor food quality, baked Mac and cheese not baked and not good. The service was okay as I received delivery but did not have utensils included.

Chicken Wings, Baked Macaroni and Cheese, Collard Greens, Smashed Sweet Potatoes, Black Eyed Peas and Rice

Chicken was pretty good. Baked Macaroni and Cheese was alright, could use a bit more seasoning. Collard Greens were good but I couldn't taste or see the smoked turkey that it claims to have in it. Black Eyed Peas and Rice was dry and not great. Wouldn't recommend. Smashed Sweet Potatoes was alright. Definitely on the lighter side of sweet (which is a good thing to me). Corn bread came with it. It was alright. Overall the meal was okay, don't know if it's worth the money though.

    Chicken Wings with 2 Sides

Well all we tried were the Chicken Wing Dinner with two sides and we both chose collard greens and mac and cheese. The were beautifully fried and had a mild savory taste te to them. The mac and cheese was home made style cheesy and buttery and my favorite was the delicious collard greens, they were soooo comforting, nice and warm I definitely want to try some more stuff from there. I also ordered chicken and sausage gumbo but they forgot to pack it but it was super easy to get refunded by grub hub you just have to access the help menu in the app and find what you need on there anyways that was good not five stars because I have only tried the one plate. More next time. Those collard greens though .

My boyfriend ordered the chicken wings plate with a side of mac and cheese and black eyed peas with rice and I got the wings with mac and cheese with collard greens. It was okay. The chicken and collard greens were seasoned well however the mac and cheese was kind of bland. My boyfriend ate one wing and gave the other two to me because he said it was too greasy for him. He picked at his mac and left the black eyed peas and rice completely untouched. If I try them again I'll leave an update.

When you download the app and try to sign up, it won't let you. Also, they only accept online order. So even if you live .1 of a mile away and you call them for a pick up order, you can't get it. Horrible customer service.

Fried chicked meal. Mac and chese was yummmmy. Chicken also good! Homecooked taste, not chain manufactured!

I tried this after reading reviews and had delivery via Uber Eats. Food was fresh and tasty! The fried chicken was a little pricey for the amount (3 wings for $6), but the flavor and quality nearly justifies it. If you want an alternative to these "Cajun" chains that seem to be popping up everywhere, this is the place for you. The cornbread was soooo good! I'm sorry that it only included one. I would have definitely ordered more had I known how moist it would be. It was "slap-your-sister" good! Gumbo was also good. We ordered mild. The shrimp and grits were tasty. Plenty of shrimp! At $17, I was glad there was. A tiny bit heavy on the sauce, but once mixed into the grits, totally fine. The mac and cheese was also very yummy. I could probably eat a whole pan on my own.... *insert Homer Simpson drool* Overall, good, fresh, flavorful and alright by me!

    My entire order.

The food was extremely flavorful and fresh but was very expensive and they definitely ripped me off, Royally.. I ordered chicken and sausage gumbo at $13.99, I was instructed to choice protein, which was odd, so I choose chicken and crab, not realizing that would be an additional $8. The portion I received was literally a cup and a half of food, I'll insert a pick, for $22.00, a complete ripe off. The packaging also seriously whack, at $65 bucks for two small entrees and three extra, extra small side, one would think the food comes wrapped in gold paper with a big red bow on top. I will try this place again as a eat in thing, I would use them for a delivery again, not worth it on that note.

    Fried chicken lunch combo
    Chanda R.

I was on the hunt for fried chicken one Friday for lunch. I checked yelped and luckily Maxine's was only a short ten minute drive from work. Myself along with two co-workers went to Maxine. You essentially place your order at the counter or as I learned other customers called ahead. There is no tables in the restaurant but a few seats are in the waiting area. The customer service isn't too great but it appeared that the one of the two people behind the counter was in training. I got the lunch fried chicken combo with Mac and cheese. My co-workers got the fried chicken dinner which came with two sides. After a long twenty minute wait we got our lunch. We went back to work and ate at our desk. I enjoyed my fried chicken plate, for me it was the right amount of crispy and fried. I didn't enjoy the Mac and cheese as I like it creamy and this one wasn't. My two co-workers however found that the chicken was slightly undercooked for their liking. We all agreed that the corn bread was the best. Give this place a try and tell them if needed that you like your chicken well done if that's your thing. If not take it how they cook it. Either way your mouth will be happy!

Haddock with Baked Macaroni and Cheese and Collard Greens
    Jessica P.

Omg!! This food is flavorful, fresh and authentic. I ordered the fried haddock dinner plate with a side of Mac and cheese, greens and mashed sweet potatoes. The fish was fried just right. The batter was lite and seasoned just right. Mac and cheese was good. Tasted like it was actually baked and not just a cheese sauce poured on top. The greens weren't from the can. A tad bitter, but good. Corn bread was good.

Always a good sign when the service sets the tone early. For starters, we ordered the ceviche, and whew--so fresh and delicious. Absolutely did what it needed to do. We also tried the plantain bowls. While they could've benefited from a sauce or a little extra something to really bring it home, the portion size was impressive, so no complaints there. Now let's talk about the mocktail, because it quite literally blew my wig back. Delicious, refreshing, and the presentation? A full 10/10. Cameras were definitely out. The aesthetics of this place are beautiful--clean, stylish, and very much a foodie influencer's playground. If you enjoy a good ambiance with your meal, this spot delivers visually. For my main, I ordered the steak frites. The fries were crunchy, well-fried, and nicely seasoned--no notes there. The steak, however, was a bit underwhelming. Not bad by any means, just missing something I couldn't quite put my finger on. My taste buds were searching, but the spark never fully showed up. We ended the night with tres leches for my friend's birthday, and honestly, it was one of my favorite tres leches I've had. Moist, flavorful, and the perfect sweet ending. Don't come for me--I'm just speaking my truth. Overall, I'd rate the food a solid 3.5/5, but I'd definitely return to try another dish because the service, drinks, and ambiance were all strong. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, but you'll manage. Worth the visit.

Despite it not being busy when we arrived, the service remained slow throughout the night. I know we had a big table but half the time our waiter was nowhere to be found and we constantly had to ask the hostess. The water cups were a little small than other restaurants but refills were slow as well. There is one stall so later in the night the line for the bathroom started to get long so keep that in mind. We got a few apps, I definitely would recommend the asian style chicken wings and the calamari those were the best in my opinion especially the wings the sauce on that was delicious. Other than those two, the other tapas had smaller portions and weren't worth getting in my opinion. The main dishes weren't worth getting. They had ran out of bolognese which most people had planned on getting. The other pastas weren't good, the bread was also stale, almost tasted like they reheated it from frozen. I was also expecting a crispy chicken but I think it was grilled and was just really hard. The drinks were good, on the pricier side but worth it compared to everything else.

I feel like a lot of my reviews these days are post-mortems…read more.. Sad to see this place close recently, but I saw the warning signs. I've mainly visited here mid-week. While I know mid-week is a slow period, but it can't be dead. Every occasion I've visited, you might see a couple of people at the bar but the tables are all empty. Which is sad because... The food was pretty solid and affordable. The tapas fare is pretty conventional, which can be good. The croquettes were crispy enough and flavorful. The lamb chops were also flavorful, while being tender and not over-seared. The patatas bravas were hot and crispy. The paella for two, at a decent $35 price, had a good amount of rice and seafood. The seafood might've been a little overcooked but it's hard to time it. The churros made for a nice ending, with a lovely chocolate dipping sauce. They had vegan tapas options, which was good for some in my party. However, the menu was a bit too extensive. They had menu options from seemingly all places and that does not make life easy for BOH. Service was generally okay, but seemingly stretched. Even though there weren't many customers in mid-week, staff appeared to have a variety of tasks. So sometimes we weren't checked on for long stretches. The spot was a former bar, so it had that bar atmosphere. It's located in a decent area, so I hope something good rises out of the ashes.

From a quick…read morecompare of the menu here versus the menu for Barcelona Wine Bar, the prices are about the same or cheaper, especially for the seafood paella for two ($35 at Olespana, which was a sizable portion, versus BWB's $56). Plus, Olespana has a parking lot in the back, as well as abundant metered options along Wells Avenue, which is always a plus in my book. Here were the dishes we ordered, ranked from favorite to least: 1. Patatas with garlic aioli - you cannot go wrong with the combo of basically french fries and mayo but definitely eat this as soon as it hits your table. Otherwise the fries turn mushy, doubly so from the sauce. If you're with a large group, definitely order two of these. 2. Seafood paella - I'm by no means a paella expert but I was impressed by the crunchy bits of rice on the bottom and how flavorful it was. A good amount of different seafood, including shrimp, mussels, clams, and squid, but I would've liked to see the shrimp a little less pink. 3. Garlic mushrooms - I'm a fiend for mushrooms and will order it any time I spot it on the menu, though I'm partial to when they either fry or sauté so the mushrooms get these nice crispy edges. These were a touch too heavy on the sauce, which was very acidic, but I finished pretty much the whole plate of it on my own. 4. Croquettas - Wasn't a fan of the mushy insides though my cousin loved them. 5. Beet salad - Eh. At this point, I should give up on ordering salads in restaurants when I can make them easily at home. The balsamic vinegar dressing was way too tart and I've decided I'm not a fan of oranges in salads. Overall, a fun eclectic spot to eat some tapas and drink whiskey. I got a kick out of how their menu has a section of tapas from other countries, including the USA - our featured options were wings and steak tips. That said, the menu is way too sprawling for its own good - tapas, burgers, pizza, and nachos? That might explain the inconsistency in the dishes we ordered.

After making a reservation, the three of us arrived shortly after noon to find the restaurant completely empty. In fact, there were no staff in sight. After calling toward the kitchen, a waitress appeared, and we seated ourselves. After ordering waters and iced teas, we looked over the extensive menu and chose: * Ay Caramba! ($16) - A vegetarian tapa packed with corn, peppers, spinach, mushrooms, and more. * Margherita Pizza ($18) - Garlic confit, fresh basil, vine-ripened tomatoes, and fresh mozzarella. * Panko-Crusted Baked Haddock ($32) - Served with roasted potatoes, seasonal vegetables, and a white wine cream reduction. The Ay Caramba! was the standout dish of the meal. It was flavorful, with a great texture, and easily our favorite. The Margherita pizza featured a very thin, crisp crust with fresh tomatoes and a light touch of sauce, making for a good but not exceptional pizza. Opinions on the haddock were mixed--one diner enjoyed it, while another thought it had a slightly fishy taste. The restaurant itself has a pleasant, inviting atmosphere, and once service began, our waitress was friendly, attentive, and checked on us several times throughout the meal. At almost $100 with tip, this isn't an innexpensive place. That said, we enjoyed lunch and would be happy to return. Tip: Metered parking is available on the street and there is a small parking lot next to Valsos. You can also park further down toward the beach, about a 5-minute walk to the restaurant.

However, when a place starts to think that they no longer exist to serve customers but rather that customers are lucky to eat here they will quickly go down hill-- frankly a sign that it already has. Arrogance is rarely rewarded in this industry. And this place is not good enough to be arrogant. The pluses do not outweigh the minuses. Our other opted to go off on his own. We ate. The food is wildly overpriced. $9 for 2 slices of a baguette with tomato puree. I make this at home and the food cost is about $0.75. The other items weren't quite as absurdly priced but I found the pricing for the pan con tomate idiotic. The food was solid overall, not amazing. The service was okay from the waitstaff but somewhat intermittent. The experience overall left a bad taste in my mouth. I was happy when it was over. To add insult to injury they allow smoking on the sidewalk tables and the people next to us were smoking something pretty vile from a vape pen.
