We were looking for lunch near Revere Beach and noticed the excellent Yelp reviews for Valsos on Shirley Avenue. After making a reservation, the three of us arrived shortly after noon to find the restaurant completely empty. In fact, there were no staff in sight. After calling toward the kitchen, a waitress appeared, and we seated ourselves. After ordering waters and iced teas, we looked over the extensive menu and chose: * Ay Caramba! ($16) - A vegetarian tapa packed with corn, peppers, spinach, mushrooms, and more. * Margherita Pizza ($18) - Garlic confit, fresh basil, vine-ripened tomatoes, and fresh mozzarella. * Panko-Crusted Baked Haddock ($32) - Served with roasted potatoes, seasonal vegetables, and a white wine cream reduction. The Ay Caramba! was the standout dish of the meal. It was flavorful, with a great texture, and easily our favorite. The Margherita pizza featured a very thin, crisp crust with fresh tomatoes and a light touch of sauce, making for a good but not exceptional pizza. Opinions on the haddock were mixed--one diner enjoyed it, while another thought it had a slightly fishy taste. The restaurant itself has a pleasant, inviting atmosphere, and once service began, our waitress was friendly, attentive, and checked on us several times throughout the meal. At almost $100 with tip, this isn't an innexpensive place. That said, we enjoyed lunch and would be happy to return. Tip: Metered parking is available on the street and there is a small parking lot next to Valsos. You can also park further down toward the beach, about a 5-minute walk to the restaurant. read more

My gosh, I don't even know where to begin. I haven't eaten such delicious meals in Boston in a long time. And I eat out a lot. Valsos served the most delicious dishes, fresh and perfectly spiced. I literally ate myself into a food coma. The service was a 10 out of a 10. Very accommodating and friendly. And the space is sparkling clean. Highly recommend this gem. The Fritura Mixta is a fresh cousin to traditional calamari with tender morsels of haddock, shrimp, and calamari. It's no surprise this place would be packed to the gills on a warm summer's night. Enjoy America's First Vegetable Tower on your way to America's First Beach. Thank goodness for map apps because this place is tucked away like a joey in a pouch. Once arrived, better hope you beat all the other world travelers in line. And if there aren't open tables, head to the bar for just as friendly service as the four-tops. Those craft beer people will be happy to know of the four or so locals on tap. For me it was a blood orange wheat. Imagine...wheat...and blood orange. How could you say no. For those fru-fru types, go for one of several mojito varieties. Two words: fresh mint. Maybe they pipe it in from mint-ville, but there was a giant bunch placed into water while I was saddled up to the bar. It's your non-negotiable "secret ingredient" for passion, coconut, or the ever-popular "classic". Or get even wilder with the Arví Arví or Rustic Lover (somebody's nickname in high school). I'll be back over at the draught section. Don't worry, I'm not skipping over that Vegetable Tower; it was the main reason for my unforgettable night. You might have this image of a Tupperware with raw cauliflower and ranch dip, or multi-layers of dried carrots and broccoli. No no no. Zucchini, eggplant, squash, bell peppers, onions, and smoked gouda--all grilled and placed on some special ricotta mixture. You'll only think I'm spending too much time describing it until you try it. A fun vibe with (I guess) latin dance music kept me feeling like I was on the cool kid list, and friendly service accompanied the tasty food. The only thing is that we had a reservation on open table & they do hand written reservations, so I'd just call in advance instead. Stopped in for dinner on 4th of July. Very nicely decorated interior, good spot for a casual date. The food was good and prepared as we had requested. Drinks were well made and they didn't skimp on the pour. My only complaint was that it took a very long time for someone to bring us the check. Waiting for the check was almost half the time we spent in the restaurant and they didn't have a lot of tables full. I'd go again but I'll be asking for the check as soon as the main course hits the table, I don't like to sit and chat after my meal. read more

Valsos is incredible. I would never have found this place if it wasn't for a suggestion from a friend who lived in the area. What a hidden gem! The restaurant itself is super small, accommodating only 4-5 parties at a time, but they do have quite a bit of space at the bar, which is where we sat. Our bartender was incredible. She suggested a few drinks that were all delicious and checked in on us just often enough. She seemed to be the only bartender/server in the restaurant, so she was busy but efficient and friendly. All of the drinks were delicious and the food was even more impressive. the octopus appetizer was one of our favorites, but it's seriously hard to choose. It's hard to perfect octopus and they have done it. The Yucca Gnocchi was also insanely good. I would get both as apps again. The burger was one of the best I've had. My only mistake was ordering both the yucca gnocchis and the scallop entree because their flavors are almost identical. Both delicious though. read more

We were in the area and thought Valsos looked like a cool spot for drinks and food, and it was. Sat at the bar and asked them to turn off Miss Universe for football haha. Really interesting drink menu and mine with gin and basil was great. Friend liked his wackier combos but $14.50 drinks and $12.50 glasses of wine seem high. We split three bites of octopus on a little cake, duck on a tostone type thing and a fried mixed plate of calamari haddock and peppers. All done well. It was more crowded at 9:45 than 7:45 when we got there. $59 each with two drinks pre tip. Would go back but gotta try the Cambodian place across the street first. read more

We were seated immediately and told to sit snywhere as only 2 other parties were in there. Started with 2 apps. OmG. The arepa mixta. And spanish pulpo. Both with unique flavors. I'm so glad to have you here in Revere Beach! You are making our neighborhood better! Between Covid and having a baby, I did not get here as quickly as I had hoped but I finally did! Okay, recommendation #1 is their own Valsos Margarita. It was one of the most refreshing ones I've ever had. Sometimes this drink can be unbalanced and tasted bottled but every flavor was fresh and the lime made a huge difference. Delish! Recommendation #2 - their food. We ordered the fried zucchini, the wings, and the paella. Now, the zucchini and wings were out of this world. I would get those again in a heartbeat. The paella, although also really good and LOADED with seafood, could've used a little more kick. There was nothing wrong with it, I just prefer it a tad more spicy. I cannot wait to try the churrasco though. In fact, I can't wait to try about 10 more things. The place is really cute and has a nice tribute wall to Revere Beach. What a little diamond in the rough! I'm so glad I finally found this place. My wife and I sat at the bar and were served by a super friendly young lady who expertly guided us through our decisions. We had the Yuca Gnocchi, Vegetable Tower, Shrimp Grand Marnier, Charred Wings and a special salad for Valentines Day. Everything was delicious but the real treasures were the Gnocchi and the Veggie Tower. So unique and so scrumptious. This place knocks it out of the park in every category. I had the worst dining experience of my life at Valsos . I have been tothe restaurant many times, and my boyfriend, friends, and I usually have a good time. However, on May 14th, my boyfriend and I went in the evening, and waited 30 min for two cocktails, plus an additional 45 min for one burger. We understand it was crowded, but we were also overcharged for the burger because of an unpublished policy where food is more expensive after 11. The food was ordered well before 11!Also, a 20% tip was automatically added to the bill without our authorization. While I usually tip 20%, this time, the service provided was significantly subpar. When we spoke with the Manager, Alex, he ripped up and threw the bill at us, said he would cancel the tip, and that he never wanted to see us again. We left with a sour taste in our mouths, but it didn't end there. On our way out, Alex ran after us, claiming to call the police because, "we did not pay." We did pay the bill, and he did not process the cancellation of the tip. The charged showed on my car, but he still threatened to call the police. I have never had such an uncomfortable and demeaning experience, and we hope no one else experiences this. Alex was rude, aggressive, and confrontational, and not only provided terrible service but degraded and insulted us. We will never come back to Valsos again. I found this place on yelp and I'm so glad I did! There is both outdoor and indoor seating. The food is a mix of Latin, Italian, and American. I ordered the fettuccine and salmon. It is a seasonal dish so it is not on the menu unless you ask for it. The salmon was so yummy and practically melted in my mouth. The mini empanadas were cute and very delicious. I also ordered the wings and got buffalo and barbecue on the side. Everything was so fresh and cooked to perfection. The white sangria also had the perfect amount of alcohol for a sangria and came with yummy fresh fruit. Management was walking around checking in on tables so we felt well taken care of. It's only been opened for a couple of months and I happened to find it by chance. Drove by it and its nice internal decor caught my eye. Pulled into the adjacent parking lot and walked in. The atmosphere and vibe gave me a good feeling that the food would be prepared as delicately as the owners had taken to do the decor. I wasn't disappointed. All great tasty dishes and large portions (too despite labeling them as tapas). Great choice of drinks with a full bar. Alright, this place is a new Revere gem. Been living here for four years and honestly have not found a million restaurants I love. UNTIL NOW. We started with the zucchini fritters (pictured). So crisp, so well seasoned, and very nice dipping sauce. Also, presentation was pretty. I ordered the burger (unreal- so good). I have to say, I ate it with a fork because there was a lot of sauce, but the flavors were incredible. There's an avocado cream sauce on there that was just crazy. My husband ordered the salmon- it was well prepared. Came with a very delicious corn cake on the side as well. For dessert, we tried something called squash pudding. Was very gingery/cinnamon, with vanilla ice cream. YUM. Overall, I was so impressed. What a lovely addition to the neighborhood. So happy to be walkable from here because we'll be back! read more

My partner and I were looking for some place new for dinner and we found this incredible restaurant that just opened up in October 2019. I can't believe more people don't know about it yet!! The restaurant is beautiful inside; quiet, soft lighting, and intimate. The service was also quick and pleasant, with just the right number of check-ins throughout dinner. And of course, the food! They offer fantastic food and drinks at this local hidden gem. It's still in walking distance of the t but further away from the beach. I particularly like their famous bolognese which is the best I've had in a while. From the baked haddock to the shrimp marnier, I can't say I've been disappointed with anything here.
