I love Moonstones, and I've been to this restaurants many times though I haven't been here since Covid happened. It was nice to be back again for a Sunday brunch. I was looking forward to their red velvet pancakes, but unfortunately, they ran out (mind you, that was around 11:30am and I believe they had just opened at 10:30am). We were also surprised that they don't have any non-dairy, plant-based milk. My sister drinks her coffee with almond milk, but they didn't have it or any alternatives so she opted just to add sugar. There was also a DJ playing music. We enjoyed his music though we didn't think it went with the ambience of the restaurant. It was also loud at some point, and we noticed someone asked the DJ to take it down a notch. I got their Classic Eggs Benedict, which had a poached egg, Canadian bacon, hollandaise, and an English muffin with some greens. My sister got their Call It Breakfast, which had some scrambled eggs, bacon, home fries, english muffin. Overall, our food was great, and our server was very attentive. I wanted to have a nice brunch to celebrate both sister's birthdays and surprise them by having mom join us. I made sure to tell them during reservation call, that mom is in a nursing home and must be back within 1.5-2 hours. We did not have a designated staff member for our table, we waiting almost 10 minutes to get water. The order of fruit and pastries to start, came out almost 1/2 into or stay. It took another 1/2 hour to get a Bloody Mary. The food, baked eggs, burgers etc did not come out for another 1/2 hr. We hadn't eaten and it was time for mom to return. They packed our meals to go. The celebration cake I ordered never made it to the table. To add insult to injury, the host came over and said the almost $200.00 bill was not correct because they forgot to add the Bloody Mary. The Faroe Islands salmon with sweet potato-chorizo hash, edamame, poblano crema, tomato, avocado was good and I like the idea behind it, but I don't think the mix of vegetables worked. The blackened salmon was nicely prepared, so if they just omitted the sweet potato and guacamole, it would've been fine. (To be quite honest, since this place seems to like to combine Chinese and Japanese flavors, just prepare the salmon with baby bok choy and edamame.) The spring rolls filled with chicken and noodles were a little odd. It was almost like puréed chicken in them. They were sort of going for a Vietnamese flair, I think. Wow. Moonstones is even better than I hoped. They have a really cool and funky atmosphere, from the wall decor to the music piped into the room. The staff have been well-trained and the tables charmingly set. Our server was attentive and efficient. I had the Rib Eye (with frites and a side of spicy corn). We are vegetarians- While the menu had several veggie options and we also called ahead of time to double check and were told that there several vegetarian options available;, we were very disappointed about only a burrito being available as an option. They were out of avocado toast and salsa. The service was extremely slow as well and we waited a very long time for the food. The food was dramatically overpriced for what they offer. In the sleepy town of Chelmsford there aren't too many 5 star restaurants. This one almost hits the mark though. They label themselves as a raw bar and serve primarily seafood. I came for lunch and decided to try the tuna poke. $18 for lunch in my opinion is over the top!! The dish although done well and quite tasty was small in size for that price point. I will give them high praise for fish selection. This was fresh, not fatty and had good flavor. All the ingredients were very fresh. I enjoyed every last bite. I decided to try a little desert. I don't usually get desert after lunch but after the meal I wasn't quite satisfied. They were able to serve me a bite size chocolate cheesecake slice with cherries on top. This hit the spot! Had an awesome hangover brunch following my 20 yr high school reunion. After a night of some heavy imbibing I needed mimosa's and delicious food. This place delivered. We walked in and I'm not usually under dressed, but again, the hangover. It definitely a nicer place, so don't walk in with leggings and patriots hat like I did. They asked if we had a reservation, nope. Thankfully there were seats at the bar. The bartender looked like he was straight out of Asheville, not Chelmsford. But he was so nice and got our drinks right away. I'm not a bloody mary fan, but their bloody mary bar was amazing. They had a small mimosa bar, so i topped mine off with some fruit and wished away my headache. We ordered the nutella french toast and also ordered the farmhouse bowl to share. It was the perfect combo of savory and sweet. Also i saw they had a pisco sour on the menu and it was divine. They handshake them, which I was surprised to see. Came here for our anniversary after a recommendation from a cousin and it certainly did not disappoint. We were in one of the side rooms so it was quiet and away from the larger groups. I also felt very regal sitting in high backed chairs (a small thing but it was fun). The waitress was attentive and helpful as we were deciding. Great cocktail and drinks menu. We got mixed drinks to start the night and ended up each getting a scotch, neat. I was very impressed with the amount we got. The menu was killer. We chose to split multiple tapas rather than each getting a main plate and that was definitely the right choice. The plates are true tapas side so plan on getting multiple if you're sharing. The flaming chorizo was by far my move favorite dish (a warning though: don't blow on the flames unless you want a flaming shirt next!). Another wonderful dinner today at Moonstones with my girlfriend! We arrived at around 3:15 pm when they were still serving lunch but were totally accommodating in allowing us to order from the dinner menu. We ordered the Szechuan eggplant and tofu poke bowl and crispy shrimp poke bowl for our entrees and ordered the gruyere cheese and mushroom flatbread, mushroom risotto and flaming pig to share. We knowingly ordered way to much food so we'd have leftovers to bring home! The poke bowls were delicious and flavorful - the fresh avocado, cucumber, and mango were great additions to the shrimp, eggplant, and tofu. The mushroom risotto and flaming pig from the dinner menu, which are my favorite dishes at Moonstones, did not disappoint! The risotto was full of mushroom flavor. The flaming pig was entertaining to watch - glad they added it back onto the menu! We tried the gruyere cheese and mushroom flatbread for the first time; it was rich with a lot of cheese, reminded me of a flatbread version of the risotto. Our waiter Aaron was fantastic, always checking in, refilling our waters, and packing up our dishes to take home as we finished (as opposed to waiting til the end). We appreciated his attentiveness! I've been here twice now and I can say that this place is a great place for date night and/or an uppity place to hang out at the bar. Their wine selection is pretty impressive and the ambiance really sets the tone of your night. You're seated pretty quickly regardless of how full the place is. The first time I came here, I got the tapas and the dessert. I think this place is worthy of just their desserts, personally. Tapas I've ordered: -truffle and parmesan french fries (bar fare) - large and generous amount to share, delicious -spanish patatas bravas - delicious and with lots of flavor -Potato pancake - pretty salty, even with the sour cream topped on it, they need to lighten up on the salt on it. -pork belly croquettes - pretty good, it wasn't bad, but I wasn't impressed either. Wine by the bottle: -Hook N' Ladder Cab-Sangiovese blend was a staff favorite so we got it, but little did I know that this wine would knock you off your feet once you stand up. The sangiovese part is really muddy and thick, and delicious as it is, be careful. Dessert: -Dessert sampler with the mini red velvet pancakes mix.- It was pretty impressive. It came with the: -chocolate pate -bread pudding -coconut pudding with guava and mango puree - the red velvet pancakes were added on by us -The italian zeppolis were delicious with orange zest in their chocolate dipping sauce. Just enjoyed the Seafood Boil Independence Day special! The flavors were fantastic with more than enough to feed three of us! The boil came with thorough instructions for heating and serving. The fresh herbs added the perfect amount of flavor and aroma! In addition, we ordered a dozen oysters which were super fresh and they offered to shuck them for us, but we opted to do it at home in order to retain all the juice and freshness (as was suggested). They came with all the fixins and we could've eaten another dozen! As a result of there not being many nice restaurants in Chelmsford, this is the go-to spot for nice family dinners or if I and my dining companions want somewhere with a variety of dishes. Moonstones is an offshoot of the downtown Lowell mainstay Cobblestones Restaurant with a completely different, eclectic and worldly menu concept. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful, modern, and unique. The main dining area has a stunning bar area with pretty lighting. There a some private rooms off the sides which as nice for more intimate meals or small gatherings/parties. The tables and seating are comfortable. The menu features raw bar selections, a variety of small places, entrees and desserts. Every menu item that I've had here has been excellent, flavorful and well executed. It is one of the only more upscale restaurants that is suited for vegetarian diners in this area. The selections have more of a worldly undertone and are inspired by many different cuisines. I have enjoyed brunches here as well and the menu is varied. Overall the service is great and I have never had a bad meal or dining experience here. My only gripes are that the price point tends to be high for some of the portions you receive and the menu hasn't been updated in a few years (I feel that the menu used to change more often). This is the second event I have booked at Moonstones and both the staff and food were outstanding at both celebrations. We went for an early dinner- arrived with only two tables sat in the dining room- they were preparing for a later function and was noted in book some reservations would be in. We told the hostess two and a baby and were greeted with a slight eye roll as she walked away. She came back and said "I can probably clean a table for you." She left and cleaned the table only to return stating, "I actually have reservations and don't know if and when I'll be able to seat you." Came for dinner on Wednesday night with my boyfriend since happy hour (=discounted tapas) lasts until 6 on weekdays. The food was a 4/5 but 5 stars for Avery being great! Out of the tapas we tried, my favorite was the beef bao slider. The only minor disappointment was that their online menu was not up to date and they had replaced several tasty looking items. We found other delicious things to replace so no problem. Will warn that the Yelp '$$$' is accurate if ordering from the regular non happy hour dinner menu, but I highly recommend an early weekday dinner! read more

Took a chance on searching for nearby places to eat for an early dinner. Pics posted online looked good and this place crushed it with food, service and music. We sat outside and while I dug the tarp and lawn with benches it was close to a double line road and there was some road noise that took away from an otherwise flawless experience. The good news is the interior was on point with a bar that seemed to have a gravitational pull to it. This place exceeded my expectations. The food was unique, diverse and I snuggled to choose my apps, drink and meal with so many great options. I will return for my birthday meal later this month. These people know what they are doing. I've been to Moonstones several times, and I've never been disappointed. While the entrees score high in both taste and presentation, I'm just as likely (maybe more) to spend the evening selecting items from the small plates menu. Pay attention to the nightly specials too. The chicken dumplings I had last night were some of the best I've ever had, but the dipping sauce was what put it over the top - it even made the bed of lettuce on which the dumplings were presented taste great! The wait staff is knowledgeable, professional and personable. The last time I ate here, I was seated in the bar/lounge area for the first time. While I think the menu is scaled down ever so slightly compared to the dining room, I found it to be more relaxing and fun for people-watching. If you don't want to eat in the lounge, I strongly recommend making a reservation on a busy night. read more
