NY raises the bar in this neighborhood with Kennedy Fried Chicken knock offs and chains lining each block. NY is dishing out quality family chicken dinners for the LOW! If I could give 0 I would. 1 customer inside, 1 at the drive thru, 8 employees gathered around the cashier only helping the 1 customer inside while the rest talk and stare but no one helps me at the drive thru. I wish I had a job where no one held me accountable like the employees that work here. Service has only been getting worse over the years, I guess they finally reach the point where they said fuck it. Lucky for me, I don't need this place. It was always a last resort type spot anyway. Inexpensive combos & mediocre chicken. It was just ok. Nothing to write home about. Should've been a bit more flavorful. The potato salad was horrible. It tasted like pure salt with stringy carrots in it. Not something I would order again. The Nestea Ice Tea was actually Sweet Tea. It was good but not what I ordered. I ordered the two piece combo with Onion Rings. The chicken as mentioned before was mediocre at best. The Onion Rings weren't crunchy. They were soft as if they were microwaved. Uhh YUCK! The cashiers were nice but didn't use their common sense when it came to certain things. Why in the world would you have your hand out for me to pay & you never told me the price? Am I suppose to assume & round off to the nearest dollar? I received my food but not the drink I paid for. How does that work out? I need to wash the chicken down with something, right? The chicken was moist and the skin was crispy, but it gets 2 stars off because it's cash only and... We ordered the 20 piece deal, however unless 2 guys were able to consume 15 pieces between the two within 10 minutes, I did not receive the # of pieces ordered. They ate at a normal pace and I saved 5 pieces for the following night. Regardless, the chicken is definitely better than KFC and even Popeyes which I'm not really a fan of. Do NOT order delivery or pickup through the Yelp app! I did this, and when I arrived to the restaurant, they had no clue what I was talking about. They are cash only and told me they aren't a part of any order online service whatsoever. They were just as confused as I was, and weren't rude about it at all, so I went to the ATM across the street and had them fulfill my order anyway. I lived in the South for a number of years, and I am picky about my fried chicken. That being said, this place measures up. The pieces I had the first time were a little over done (read: rubbery), but the second and third times I went, they were perfect. The mashed potatoes are real, and among the top 10 mashed potatoes I've had in my life (including homemade!). This place has the potential for five stars. First, add a tiny bit of spice (by way of cayenne, Texas Pete, etc.) to the batter. It's only missing a little something. Second, have a size between your small and large for your side dishes! The small is literally like three or four bites, and the large is enough to feed three people. Third, if you're going to give rolls with a dinner one time then make sure you give them every time. Two of the three times I have been included rolls, one did not. The order was the same every time (except the size of the sides). Fourth, it is on the expensive side if you choose which pieces you want. I only eat white meat, and they don't have a white meat dinner option, so they charged by piece. Please create a white meat dinner option! Overall a great family-owned place, clean, fresh, and good service. This is somewhere I will likely return to whenever the fried chicken craving strikes. read more

08/10/2014 - It's been two weeks since I've been here. I cannot stop thinking about the fried chicken. If you like fried chicken, are in the mood for chicken, are close by. Go. This place is tiny, has plenty of parking and also has a drive through. Dinning room has maybe a dozen small tables, fast food style lighting inside. You're not going to bring a first date here. The food: the chicken is fried to perfection with a combo of spices and flavors that beat the colonel any day of the week. The meat was moist, tender and the brine they use was just the right kind of salty. The skin had a subtle heat the was enjoyable and not overpowering at all. The prices were reasonable but honestly with the large platters of chicken behind the counter, I really wasn't looking at the menu board. Sides are available but I only tried the fries. Those were nothing special and a bit of a let down compared to the chicken. Also, they are super close to JFK 4 stars because they are cash only, only have fountain soda, and didn't put any napkins when I got my take out order. read more

I have been going here since I was a kid and never in my life have I been more pissed than I am today. I tried to order my regular wing special and they said "we are not selling wing specials today". So I'm like did you run out of wings? I clearly see a whole tray of wings behind the man. He said no, we just not selling wing specials you have to get a different combo. Never in my life have I been told, A PAYING CUSTOMER, that I can't get what I want which is ON THE MENU, that I have to order a different combination of chicken. And not for any specific reason. Just because "that's what I was told" Doesn't make any sense if you aren't going to sell something then take it off of the menu. My husband picked up chicken on 9/10/22, at around 3:00pm for dinner later that evening. When we got ready to eat, the chicken looked days old. I called the restaurant and asked if I bring the chicken back would they exchange it for fresh chicken. The manager told me it was from the other shift and it has nothing to do with it. It's not his problem. He was extremely nasty and rude. This is the 2nd time we got spoiled chicken from them and will never go back. Nothing has changed about this place since I have been going here for over 20+ years (even the bulletproof glass and rotating windows as someone else mentioned). Everything is always fresh. This is my absolute favorite chicken spot. Hubs and I go here all the time. Love love LOVE their chicken. Wings special is my jam - 4 wings and 2 bread/roll squares for $5 and change. Fries are good, not overly salty or grease soaked. This would be my last meal on Earth before I died. I would eat here every night if I wasn't afraid my heart would stop beating one day. Also they clean their chicken fairly well. I have no idea what's in the seasoning, but I almost don't want to know. I will just continue eating it in my fried chicken nirvana. Management changed in last year or two. Wings are terrible. Overused oil, seasoning is hit or miss, and random cooking times resulting in over or under cooking are probably the culprits. They need to bring old manager back, she was there for years and did well by the clientele. read more

They have other things on their menu however, but I've only had the chicken, fries and rolls (why mess with a good thing). If I were able to rate 0 stars I would. This business been around for years. Went twice this week since I was back In the area. I was told no peice selection even though there were no signs presented stating that. I ordered a 8 peice which comes with 2 pint sizes and 4 rolls. The peices were 2 breast 2 thighs, 2 drumsticks and 2 wings. I asked the girl if I could get 2 wings instead of 2 drumsticks. I was then told that I would be charged for each individual peice of chicken that I wanted. Plus now the sides. Which the original price was 14.95. With how she wanted to ring me up I would have been walking out of there paying 25.34. How does this make sense I couldn't believe what I was hearing especially since this is new to me.. I've never heard this new rule before. There was no manger on site. I don't feel it's right to charge someone who has been coming there for years. And to top it all off I was there for about 20 minutes trying to make some sense of it all. Another customer came behind me and the first thing one of the cashiers asked him was,what peices would you like. He ordered the 5 peice. So I was left even more confused. I give NY Fried Chicken a big thumbs up! I have been going to them for over 20 years now. I used to go to the one on Sutphin Blvd and Liberty because i lived over that way! I went there before i was pregnant and went after and then started bringing my son so much that he would order his own food! and all the staff knew exactly what he wanted when he came in! and now he is almost 19 and we still go when we can to this one on Merrick Blvd. There are some new people ,but this food is way , way , and so much more better than KFC, Popeyes and whoever else is out there.
