Turkey wings, yams, rice and peas
    Terrilyn L.

I went for brunch today, and as always, business was booming. The place was full--people dining in, grabbing takeout, and even filling the bar. There's often a short wait, which isn't surprising given how consistently packed the dining room is. The brunch menu is stacked with crowd favorites, and the music always sets the vibe--something you can really enjoy while you eat. But the food? Phenomenal. The fried catfish was seasoned and fried to crispy perfection. The turkey wings were tender, flavorful, and cooked just right--fall-off-the-bone good. And the yams? Sweet, rich, and perfectly seasoned... honestly hard to stop eating. The macaroni was rich and satisfying, and the potato salad is always a standout for me. For dessert, I had the chocolate cake--and it was exactly how I like it: moist with real, creamy frosting that doesn't miss. The brunch sangria was also a hit. I mixed red and white, and it was smooth and refreshing. Portion sizes are generous, so you definitely leave satisfied. And Danny, the owner, really sets the tone--he's always present, checking in with guests, jumping in to help the staff, and clearly running a tight operation. Nettie's continues to be the go-to spot for soul food--consistently good, every time.

My daughter chose Nettie's for her post-graduation lunch because of the location and based on the food options! It was a wonderful experience! Charming hostess greeted us. And while she's confirming a table, the owner cane thru. He was welcoming and treated us like special guests. I asked a question about the decor and he shared his vision that became reality. Our meals were delicious! Catfish, greens, chicken, everything was well prepared, served hot and flavorful! We wish them continued success. The next time we visit will be because we planned it, for the food! I didn't have pics of the food cause we were too busy eating!

The Food Is Amazing definitely give flash backs of being in the south when you take each bite or look around. When you look around you see all the vintage pieces from the south during slavery days. It's very appealing and gives lots of flash backs. The service was nice welcoming and warm, it's always good to see the owner catching up. Always makes us want to stop by and say hey. Sitting at the bar watching the game with my girlfriend, she always enjoy herself. My mother-in-law and I stopped by for brunch on Sunday. The meals were delicious, and the drinks were refreshing. The energy in the space felt very familial. You can tell this is where the aunties and uncs go to grab some good food in the community that feels like home. The owner is very personable and, from what I observed, makes sure to introduce himself to everyone and connect with those he already knows. It's sweet. I'd go back.

Esthetically pleasing. Black owned beautiful place. Sangria was delicious We ordered a pitcher for the table and it was a decent sized pitcher for $50. Can't go wrong. The country breakfast is what I ended up getting cause something was wrong with the waffle mix unfortunately - I'll have to come back and try those another time. The eggs were just meh the biscuit was yummy. Grits with cheese very tasty. Catfish wasn't bad but the whiting was waaaaay better. Yams sweet but savory. Mac n cheese - mediocre. Shrimp were appetizing. Also, cornbread was nice and moist and buttery. Could've had another piece - but didn't want the added calories. The owner Danny introduced himself to us and was quite the conversationalist. Pleasant man. Glad to have made his acquaintance. I will revisit soon.

We stopped by Nettie's for Sunday brunch after church and was honestly impressed with how flavorful and well prepared everything was. This place gets soul food. We all ordered the chicken wings, mac & cheese, collard greens, and cornbread (2xs) and every item hit the mark. The wings were juicy, crispy, and seasoned to perfection. No dry bites, no greasy mess -- just golden and satisfying. The mac & cheese was creamy, cheesy, comforting. Collard greens had depth and flavor, not watery or overly salty and cooked just right. And the cornbread was warm, moist, slightly sweet and to be honest some of the best I've had in a while. Had to have seconds. The vibe was chill, with that cozy, welcoming energy you would want for a Sunday bunch. Staff was friendly. A warm hospitality the owner or staff often walk tables, chat, greet, which makes the experience more personal. Would absolutely return, this is the kind of spot that makes you feel like you're getting a home cooked meal.

I called first thing in the morning to make sure they had the naked cake available received a very dry answer pver the phone. Took my chances and drove 30 minutes . I was craving something sweet , but light for mothers day. The naked cake was exactly that. Nothing for me to run to, but worth it if im around. The service was a little slow but since its mother's day I excused it. However they have young ladies working there and not one seemed to be excited to be there . Noone had a smile on their face. I guess im just used to going to more exciting places .

Just walking in, I was impressed. From the waiting area to the bar to the rest of the restaurant, the place has a very warm and welcoming vibe. Love the decor especially the black seats. We were seated immediately and the waitress took our order not too long after. Because everything is cooked fresh, it was a little bit of a wait for the food but it was definitely worth the wait. For an appetizer we had buffalo wings and they were so good. For my entrée, I had the catfish with Mac and cheese and potatoe salad as my sides. Hubby had the fried chicken with collard greens, candied yams and mashed potatoes. The candied yams are to die for. The owner was very personable and very present. He constantly checked in on his customers and would even sit with them and chat a bit. This by far is one of the best soul food restaurants I've eaten at. I definitely plan to return and bring more people to support this black owned delicious restaurant.

Came here randomly on a Sunday with my boyfriend for brunch and we will definitely be coming back! To start we ordered a mimosa and Bellini. Both were very tasty! For our meals I ordered the Southern Classic, which came with eggs (your way) and you get to choose from a few different sides. I got my eggs scrambled with cheesy grits, a biscuit and turkey bacon. My boyfriend for the French toast with beef sausage. Everything was amazing and well seasoned. We also ordered a side of baked macaroni and cheese, which was the star of the show. It's the best mac and cheese I've ever had from a restaurant and tasted like it was home cooked. I would order that by itself as a meal if I came as a larger portion. Aside from the amazing food, what really made me like this place was the owner, Dannie. He was such a kind and welcoming soul and it made me feel like I was eating at a restaurant with a bunch of my distant relatives. He definitely made the place feel extremely homey and welcoming, which is something I feel like is hard to find in the hospitality industry. He greeted every single table and had conversations with everyone, it was definitely something I loved to see. I will definitely be coming back to try their lunch/dinner food.

Took my mother here for a Pre-Mother's Day dinner. I called to make a reservation but was told they don't accept reservations for parties of 2 and they close at 6:00pm on Saturdays - I was a little taken back by the hours but decided to go anyway. When we arrived we had about a five minute wait before we were seated. Can I just say this place is a whole vibe? They have a bar area that was fully packed, the seating area has exposed bricks and tv's everywhere. There was old school R&B music playing. Both my mom and I were excited because it's rare to find an actual soul food restaurant. Most restaurants are Caribbean based with a sprinkle of soul food in it (like mac and cheese). Our waitress, who was very attentive, came over to get our orders. We both had the red sangria, I ordered the bbq chicken (dark meat only) with mac and cheese and potato salad (don't judge me on the carbs). My mom had the fried catfish with mac and cheese and yams. One suggestion would be to have a basket of cornbread to eat while waiting for your food. The sangria was delicious! One of the best restaurant sangria's I've had in a while. We didn't have to wait too long for our food and it was hot when we got it. Now I will say I did ask for dark meat - I got two pieces of very small chicken, but they were tasty. The portion size of the sides were good. The potato salad and the mac was both delicious. My mother said her food was delicious as well. The one thing we both noted was that everything was seasoned. I indulged and got the red velvet cake - it was ok...I've had better but I also had worse. The owner stopped by to chat with us for a food minutes which was a nice touch. Actually the staff we interacted with were all very nice and accommodating which is a welcome surprise these days. Again, I repeat, this place is a whole vibe and I will definitely be back!

I went for a to go order they were busy but the wait wasn't bad. We ordered whiting, collard greens, yams. Fried shrimp, Mac & cheese & a banana pudding cake. Man oh man 10/10 recommend. Everything was delicious. The sides were all so good & the yams may look blah but they are absolutely not blah it was super good. The seafood was also really good & fresh. I'm actually mad I didn't try it before I live super close to there. But it's all good cuz I tried it now & will continue to go back. I'll go back to sit down next time. The hostess was really nice, they had a band playing so I'm guessing they may have themed nights. They are only open Thursday-Sunday.

Seated at the bar, the mixologist was attentive and prepared a nice red sangria.

How are the wings & Mac & Cheese? Do they make ribs?

I know you are reading to find how the fish was, because the reviews on Maxine's on the Boulevard have really good ratings. Well, I can't tell you how the fish and fries were, because I used the Uber Eats app to order my food and I never received the food, even though the order shows complete in the app. I gave specific instructions and I even provided my telephone number so that the driver could call if he had problems, because delivery drivers will drop your food anywhere, IN MY EXPERIENCE! I gave a 20% tip as well. I called Maxine's on the Boulevard, and they say the order is out, if you have a problem call Uber Eats. I went downstairs to the salon, and they did not receive an order. One worker said that the guy was waiting for 14 minutes and no one showed up. Let me tell why the driver waited, he never followed the instructions. The delivery was a standard delivery because when you pay more the delivery doesn't arrive any faster. The order was made at 3:18 and with a 40-minute delivery window or at 4:00 pm. The app showed an ETA of 4pm. The driver arrives early and stood outside, not bothering to call the number provided. I will go as far as to say, maybe I did not hear the new delivery window alert. Why did he stand at the salon and not come to the apartment build? I remember that I used to delivery Uber Eats and I went to Red Lobster, delivered the food, told the customer to check the order before I leave. There was a problem. I drove back to Red Lobster to retrieve the missing lobster tail. Red Lobster said that they were closed, long story short, I drove back to the customer, lobster tail in-tow. I was not going to leave without the customer's missing item. I was representing a company, so I did what I had to do to make sure that the customer was satisfied. Not bragging but you don't get that service nowadays, some workers are unconcerned whether you get what you pay for or not. Do you know that I was salivating for this delicious fish and savory French fries, Crinkled cut at that! Frish on a Friday, you can't go wrong unless you do as I did and use Uber Eats. I am too hangry at the moment... Inspire more, Yelp more!
