Avoid this place! The owner is not interested in being a mechanic because he runs a business taking men out to hunt mountain lions with packs of dogs. The owner has his 80 year old mother working the front, which is a catastrophe! She has no idea what she is doing. I went there for oil leaks in my engine, she billed me for a timing belt replacement when there was nothing wrong with my timing belt, and for a new waterpump, when there was nothing wrong with my waterpump. I was charged more that $500 above the estimate that I was given. Ever since the work they did, my drive belt has been squealing like a cyclone! I can't get back in to Maxwell Auto to get the belt tightened because the owner/mechanic is never there. They don't even pick up the phone when I call. Now I'll have to go to the trouble of suing Maxwell Automotive in small claims court. Try America's Tire and Auto in Cortez, instead. read more

Most the mechanics are young and inexperienced. I'd bring my car in to have certain parts fixed and they would try this and try that causing me to have to keep coming back. My dads truck door worked just fine when he sent it in to get something else fixed and was sent home with a damaged door. He brought it back in to have them fix it and they told him to not come back and didn't fix it read more

From the moment we arrived with the tow, everyone in the shop was extremely friendly: Tammy in the front office, the mechanics in the shop, and Randy the owner. The repair was reasonably priced, but ran into a glitch with the parts supplier which required follow-up adjustments. Ive been to Maxwell's many times and every time I have brought my truck in to get fixed, it never does. Got the power steering pump replaced and then no more than 100 miles later it blew and the belt fell off too. Had to pay them again to get it fixed. Then I went to get my left front balljoint fixed.... And no more than 4 months later Good Year tells me that all four ball joints need to be replaced immediately. How is that? Oh yeah, my power steering still isn't working well at all. Would not recommend this shop at all!!! read more

While travelling on vacation, we experienced car trouble and was referred to Maxwell's Automotive by our RV campground host. We had a 9 a.m. appointment, made with "Mike". It was a 40 mile drive from our location, and, when we showed up at 9 a.m., Mike told us he MAY be able to look at our vehicle that afternoon. My husband pointed out that we did have an appointment. Mike said "OK" and removed a van from one of the lifts in the garage. After he drove our truck in and put it up on the lift, he said he would call us when he found the coolant leak. We walked across the street and rented a car so we could travel around the city of Cortez. After breakfast, we thought we would drive by Maxwell's Automotive to see if our vehicle was still on the lift being worked on. Low and behold, it was in the parking lot and the van was back on the lift. My husband asked Mike what was up and he said he was "researching" our problem. My husband asked him if we should just take our truck across the street to the Chevy dealership. At that point, Mike advised us he would rather not work on our truck. I took my car a Mazda MX5 to the shop the told me it needed a throttle body because of the code it was showing. The part was replaced and over $800 later it was still not right and after looking at it a couple more times the did not had a clue. I took it to a REAL mechanic and it turns out it was a bad electrical connection, the wire was repaired and now it's good to go. It seems that they depend on the computer to tell them what's wrong and just change parts. I would look around if needing repairs. read more

took my truck in for the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder replacement, and front driveline u joints replacement. picked truck up next day, made a stop on way home and noticed the clip that holds the clutch linkage on lying on the floor. Stopped by the shop and they reinstalled the clip stating it must have been loose. got home and checked the rest of the repair only to find the reservoir lying next to the firewall. I rerouted the line and mounted the reservoir to firewall. Called the shop to report the unsafe unfinished work and the fact they marked up the napa parts by 1/3.Steve said he would let the owned know. Never heard from the owner. Never go back. read more
