Queen Elizabeth Home - A lovely home full of history

Queen Elizabeth Home is truly a home away from home! A group of girlfriends and myself have stayed…read moreat this home for many years and every year it never disappoints! This home accommodates 6-8 people. It has a large beautiful screened in porch on the back of house, a large dine in breakfast area and an office if you need to get some work done. It's within walking distance from the jet express and extremely close to many bars and restaurants! There is also a golf cart rental spot right across the street if you want to explore the island more!

I have had the pleasure of staying in this house every summer for the past 3 years and I have to…read moresay it is something I look forward to every year. It is the perfect place to stay for a group of 8 people. The price is affordable for anyone on a budget. I believe it is $550 per night (there is a 2 night minimum). For that price you get 3 bedrooms. Bedroom 1 has two twin beds, Bedroom 2 has 1 Queen Bed, and Bedroom 3 has a King Bed and 1 twin bed. There is also another room that has a queen size air mattress, however there are no doors. It used to be an office that they converted into an extra room. There is a fully equipped kitchen (great for group dinners), a dining room with a large table and a living room with cable. Lots of ceiling fans, however there is AC. All of this in a very open environment perfect for entertaining. There is a nice screened in back porch with a nice wicker lounge set. A large yard, perfect for games and laying out. There are two parking spots in front of the house if you even dare decide to bring a car onto the island. By the way, don't feel like you need to bring a car because the house is a 5-10 minute walk from the Jet Express. If you take the Miller Ferry, you can take the Lime Kiln Bus where it will drop you off at the train depot right across the street from the house. If you feel the need to go out, all of the popular bars and restaurants are really close to the house too. My favorite part about staying at The Queen Elizabeth is that you really feel like you are at home. I just love looking at all of the personal memorabilia and pictures belonging to the family that owns the house. I truly feel so welcome and comfortable whenever I stay at the Queen Elizabeth and I will continue to go every summer with my group. We call this our Island Home.

This guest house is a convenient place to see a real neighborhood in Detroit - North End. This…read morearea is not for the average suburbanite, bed and breakfast goer, but it's a great spot to stay while exploring the city outside of Midtown and Downtown (only ~10 away by car) We found the guesthouse through Airbnb, which was super helpful in making our decision: https://www.airbnb.com/users/show/39040 Nathan is the super friendly owner who can tell you about the neighborhood and cool places to visit in the city, especially if you are a vegetarian, artist, or creative type. He supports local businesses (yay!) and can direct you to several businesses run by the local community development corporation. ~ There are abandoned homes on the same street, but he has a good security system and I felt safe and secure with another female traveler. There's also a little park where we saw children play across the street. ~ Rooms: The 3 themed rooms (Air, Water, and Fire) are comfortable and clean. You will have access to a full kitchen, shared full bathroom. We were in the Fire room on the 2nd floor, which had a great Tempurpedic mattress. The third floor room, which was unoccupied during our stay, is in the attic and looked spacious enough for four people - one full size bed and floor space for sleeping bags and pads. There was sound insulation leading up to it, so good for small groups who are traveling through. During our stay, we met another woman from Chicago who was considering moving back to the city. Neat! Inyo is the onsite kitty. He's long haired, friendly, and talkative. My friend had little problem with her allergies. Definitely recommended!

I texted the owner to ask if there was anything they could do to process a partial refund (I knew a full refund was off the table). They responded fairly quickly with what seemed like thoughtful support and they offered to "see what they could do." After that, after following up on their offer they stopped responding to all correspondence (text, Vrbo messaging, calls etc). This was over a month ago and myself and my guest have tried to contact them. Very rude and unprofessional to ignore customers.

We were…read moretold we were booking the middle unit, but upon check in, the group before us had received an "upgrade" ( their words) and were given the middle unit and we were placed in the basement unit. This is not a three bedroom unit- two futons, two horribly dates and nasty stained futons do not constitute beds. If you are over 5'6" you will need to crane your neck to fit in the shower. This is a very old basement that someone has attempted to make decent for sleeping quarters. Everyone shares the yard and porch, so if we were to have stayed in the middle unit, i cant imagine a restful sleep there either as the porch is partied on all night. There were 14 people in the top unit, 6 people in the middle and the 5 of us in the basement. The person that owns this property also owns the houses on both sides and it was party central all weekend. If you are bringing your kids, or want relaxation, there are better places to choose than this location. As a lodging owner myself, I just have to add that the bed sucked horribly. Comfort def is not first and foremost.
