I made an appointment with the owner, Andy for him to come out and measure my windows and give me a quote. Not only did he not show up for the appointment, but he never even call to say he wasn't going to show up. When I was waiting around for him, Ten minutes After the appointment time I figured I'd call to see if he was coming. His response "Oh yeah, sorry I'm trying to get out of here but I don't think I'm going to make it" No I"M SO SORRY or Please forgive me, just "yeah I'm not going to be able to make it" and "oh you live downtown? parking is tough there" ....Um, What?? Do you, or do you Not, own a blinds business in San Francisco? Extremely bad customer service, would never give them my business or recommend them. Unfortunate. read more

It's so nice in these days of big box stores to find a wonderful local business to support. I needed blinds and had no idea where to go, thought I needed to go to Home Depot, which is such a hassle and not easy for me to get to. My shades are everything I wanted. The service was excellent, careful, and friendly, the information totally clear. The price was way lower than the other places I tried. I noticed that some people complain about customer service, and I will say that they weren't FAST -- pretty much delivered the last day they said they would or maybe a day or 2 later. But for me this was no big deal, and I loved the whole experience. It was like doing business in the idyllic past that never existed. In my experience, these guys are the best. read more

When we first moved into our house 10 years ago, we bought blinds/shades from 3-day. Huge mistake! We've been using Maxwell, on recommendation from a contractor friend, for many years now. They are a small, very friendly, honest, family-owned business. The dad hangs out in the shop and the sons do the jobs. We have really great black out shades in the bedrooms, and beautiful, natural wood/bamboo shades in our living room. They have tons of samples in their showroom in the sunset, but will also bring stuff out to your house. The son (i forget his name) was just here yesterday and is replacing the last of our broken 3-day blinds. This is just one of those places that we trust completely. I like this place. Professional, friendly and honest. The guy who installed my shades is part owner of the business and as a woman I trusted him. I have had the shades in my house for five years and I had the entire house done. I live in an old house with a dampness and so small mold spots have grown on the bottom of some of the shades. I was bummed after spending a thousand dollars for the whole house. Called today--get this-- I can have them reversed to the good spot for twelve bucks each if I drop them off. Very great place. Fantastic selection of blind and shades, really nice people, expert installation. What more could you ask for? I recommend going out to the shop to look at all the different options of shades, they have books and books of different materials. We got semi translucent shades for our living room in a lovely green, and a dark blue almost black out material for the bedroom/office up front. After you have some idea of what you want, have them come measure and talk details. They come back and install. We are very happy with our Maxwell shades. read more

Fascinating that all the reviews for this business are either 1 star or 5 stars. The 1 stars are for no shows. Since this shop is in my neighborhood and I wanted to support local businesses, I figured he wouldn't stand up a neighbor, and sure enough, Andy the owner showed up, spent time measuring all my windows. He promised to e-mail the quote. I never heard from him again. I called and left my e-mail address again, in case there had been a problem, he had my cell. Not a word. After 10 days I contacted another local business and have written them a check. So, you are taking your chances with this one. Obviously, the reviews say they are capable of good work, but it's a real crap shoot whether Andy will show up or follow-through with commitments. read more

I was excited to support this company, but after an unproductive visit to their showroom, followed by no show (with no phone call) and eventually a very strange and unpleasant in-home estimate, I called another local company (National Blinds Window Coverings) for a comparison estimate. National Blinds was far more helpful and responsive and offered us a better product (Hunter Douglas vs. generic) at a significantly lower price. We just got 9 different-sized shades measured + made for all of our kooky windows in our apartment and we are very happy with the company and the service, and with the result - clean and modern - just what we wanted. Andy seems like he really knows what he is doing and I believe it's a third-generation business. He even called to say he was running 5 minutes late on the day of installation. I discovered Maxwell's via Yelp and I'm so happy I did! All my blinds are from 3-Day Blinds, which is now mostly out of business in Northern CA. To repair my broken cord, 3-Day either wanted me to drive 1.5 hours one way to Sacramento to drop it off, or pay $85 to have an authorized representative come to my house just to give an estimate! Maxwell quoted me $17 for the repair and said it would be ready in two days, but they called TWO HOURS LATER to say it was done!!! And now the blind functions far more smoothly than when it was new. I've been going to Maxwell Shades for about 18 years now. They were responsible for the window treatments for the house that I bought in SF. I went there to get blinds repaired and they always were great to fix them and clean them too within an excellent timeframe and very reasonable price. I've also ordered shades from them and they were prompt with ordering and notification when they arrived; well within the timeframe that they quoted me on. I don't know where I would go if they were not there. I don't understand the one star reviews here; I never experienced anything less than professionalism from the two gentleman that have manned the shop for all those years. read more

We recently moved and needed to get custom blinds to cover our new windows. Andy came to the house to measure the windows and brought big books of samples along to show me what they could offer. He talked me through pros and cons of various options and assured me they would be able to install the blinds unobtrusively (I was worried they would really stick out since our window frames are old and narrow). Andy was professional, friendly, and overall great to work with. The blinds arrived quickly, he installed them perfectly, and he even helped set us up to send in paperwork for a rebate on the blinds. We had several appointments with another shade supplier who never showed up for their appointment. Then we found Maxwell here on Yelp and one Saturday morning my girlfriend and I visited their shop. We met Andy, the 3rd generation owner of the business, and his cousin Chris. We prowled the sample displays and made an appoint for Andy to come to the house with samples. Andy came on the appointed day and took the measurements for the 2 windows we were redoing, which are rather large at 10x5 and 8x5. And he left some samples for us to study in various lights. This was about their closing time on Saturday and we promised to have the samples back to the shop by Monday opening. But studying the samples during the rest of the weekend, we decided to change our minds and go with wood blinds instead of aluminum. Andy worked patiently with us while we selected the proper wood to match wooden framing and paneling surrounding the target windows. And he helped us decide on going with 3 sets of blinds for each window since the windows are so wide, which worked out perfectly I might add. We couldn't be more pleased with the results. The blinds were delivered and installed ahead of schedule, by Andy himself. They are just what we needed and without Andy and Chris' help, I'm not sure we would have known that. Trust and confidence are two of the most important factors in doing business with anyone. In addition to proving themselves in these two areas, they also demonstrated their knowledge and expertise with blinds. And they were easy to work with and a pleasure to meet and know. If you're looking for blinds and don't at least talk to these guys, you are missing out. read more

I brought my old venetian blinds here to have them repaired after the cord broke. Since they were busy, and it was the weekend, I was told to come back to pick them up in a few days. Later that afternoon I got a call. The blinds were already done. Apparently the cord had been installed wrong when I got them from the original company. Big surprise. We had an excellent experience with Maxwell Shades, which installed window treatments in our condo in Feb. 2017. Andy, the owner, who installed the treatments, and Chris, who works in the store, were informative in helping us decide which treatments to buy and were easy to deal with. When Andy forgot to submit a rebate request to the manufacture by the mandatory deadline, he immediately offered to compensate us by reducing our price by the rebate amount. From our interactions with Andy and Chris, I can see that at times they may get a bit overwhelmed during especially busy stretches. To potential customers I would urge patience. Better to wait a bit for a call back or have to call Maxwell's a second time but eventually get the job done right than to go with another provider who isn't as committed to doing a good job. read more
