They don't have the appropriate equipment for cleaning blinds and they want to charge way too much to clean blinds and they don't guarantee they're clean?? So dumb. Update to owners reply: There's definitely something wrong with your business? I got another company that was very upfront and got all 10 blinds done for less than half of what you charge and your girl on the phone was trying to talk me out of it more than talk me into it. So that's a big red flag!! I could buy all new blinds for the price you charge for cleaning them, but there was always a response. We probably can't clean them?? read more

I have used this company twice for restringing roman shades. On both occasions, a couple of years apart, they were prompt, professional and did an excellent job of restringing. The ones done two years ago are holding up well. And their prices are very fair! We paid a lot of money to have a simple part on our shades replaced. They said because our ceiling is high, they will charge us $350 just to check what is wrong with the shades. Now a few months later, the part they installed is broken again, they want another $400 to come and take a look. All they need to do is send 2 people with a tall ladder. I guess customer service doesn't mean anything to them. Also i have to mention, the first service they rescheduled a couple of times. So not reliable. read more

I enjoyed working with Abegail at National Blinds in Novato. I Purchased a Silhouette Shade for a kitchen window with bright sun due to the removal of 3 trees by PG&E. I was surprised when shade first installed because it didn't reach all the way to the bottom of the window when fully closed, but leaves a gap. I was told this is the way Hunter Douglas designs their Silhouette Shades now. The 5 other Silhouette Shades I have cover the entire window all the way to the bottom windowsill with no gap both when they are open and when they are closed, and I've always loved them. Although sunlight does not enter into the room through the gap, it's not the clean look I was expecting. I was told Hunter Douglas changed the design on their Silhouette Shade about 10 years ago. But National Blinds is a good company who have been in business for many years and offer competitive pricing. Also, they did a good job cleaning our other Hunter Douglas Silhouette Shades. Consistently outstanding value, quality and service spanning almost 20 years! I first bought large, remote-controlled motorized shades from National Blinds in 2004: 12' wide and 9' high, as well as a smaller manual set, which were still going strong in 2020 when I removed them for a remodel (and was even able to sell on Craigslist!) Yvonne helped me back in 2005 and was just an amazing sales professional and customer advocate, and luckily for me she was still there in 2021 when I needed new blinds. I shopped around a little and I'm quite certain the pricing is very competitive even without the great service, which is priceless, of course. Once again Yvonne bent over backwards to provide such outstanding service, making many home visits to measure and provide recommendations etc. She's always responsive and helpful. Equally her crew, led by Carlos, did an amazing job each time they came to install. The new blinds are even better than the old ones, they operate perfectly and look amazing. I contacted a few places for living room window treatments, as the place I just moved into had none and I felt like I was living in a fishbowl. This was a tricky room as it has some odd angles. National Blinds was very professional and got the job done right. One of the blinds was the wrong size when it arrived, and Yvonne reordered it quickly for me. I feel like there were a few times where their follow up could have been more buttoned up, but in the end the HunterDouglas Silhouettes that I bought are beautiful and beyond my expectations. On the other hand I called Maxwell Window Shades on Judah st, and the person I have talked to, (Marie), was very polite, professional, and took time to answer all my questions and set up a consultation. I bought my two-part Hunter-Douglas (HD) floor-to-ceiling blinds from National Blinds (NB) in 2013. The open-close mechanism failed four months out of warranty. OK, a warranty ends. I then paid to have the blinds picked up and sent to HD for repair. Now the repair has failed, less than two-years after the blinds were re-installed. After I sent a photo of the problem to NB, they told me that it would cost $180 for a tech to look at the blinds, even if he could not repair them and had to send them once again to H-D. That's quite an hourly rate. All along, at every step, there has been trouble. When the blinds were originally installed, there were many delays, and then a worker put a long scratch in an antique cabinet, because one person was sent when NB had said that two were needed. When the blinds were re-installed, after the repair that is now failing after less than two years, the frame came off the wall in a few days - the workers sent to do the job did not know what to do. A more experienced worker fixed the installation, but the entire process has been upsetting. Altogether, neither Hunter Douglas nor National Blinds has given me a product and/or service that was satisfactory. read more

We wanted to find a place that had Hunter Douglas shades and this one was listed. We bought a few blinds from The Shade Store and liked their selections and service, but found them a bit expensive and not a lot of options in the top down/bottom up shades. Roman were interesting, but not quite our style for our new condo. We came here and there was no one in the store, we had to say hello really loudly to get a sales woman to come out. She showed us the shades, although didn't seem to know that much, and gave us a quote, which surprisingly was reasonable, since Hunter Douglas is a premium brand. She made us an appt with a "designer" that would come to measure the shades and make suggestions. Day of appt, it turned out it was a window, not a set time, so I had to stick around to wait for her, simple miscommunication, or so I thought. She showed up, took the measurement, showed me the book and let me select. Can't say she was a designer that I would actually use for anything, but all we really wanted was the measurement. Two days go by, no quote, I call them, it took several calls to get a hold of anyone. Turned out somehow the email bounced and I had to hunt them down for the quote. Really, they had my info to call me and make the effort. I was getting annoyed at the lack of attention and service. Then I saw the installation was $200, I told them that I paid a fraction of that with the installers for the Shade Store, and they said that's what it was, so I went with the installers that already installed two shades for us. Then I emailed twice about my order, no response about shipping or anything else. I called and had to make at least 4 calls to get someone. It's like no one is at this store or knows what customer service means. For some reason the order was not shipped to me, but to their warehouse, so the woman seemed totally lost, and I was very clear that I ordered shipping to the house and expected the delivery, no way was I going to pick them up. So they hand delivered it. For the life of me, I have no idea how they stay in business or work with clients. They seem completely disorganized, can't seem to send a simple email and just not organized when customers are spending a lot of money on products. We love the shades we got, but they were just the middle men, and if I was Hunter Douglass, I'd be very pissed that that was the way the brand was represented. read more

I purchased a set of approximately 30 Hunter Douglass blinds from them a few years ago when I first purchased my home. HD blinds carry a lifetime warranty so that was very important to me. Their price was higher than other companies that quoted me but I was willing to pay a little more for good quality service. This purchase was a rather large investment for me so I wanted to pick a company that had what I perceived to be top notch service. Fast forward a few years and I'm having problems with one of my blinds....doesn't roll up properly. No biggy so I decided to call National Blinds for some help. Before I can finish explaining my problem, they told me it would cost $250 just to come by and just say hello to me. Wish they would have told me that but whatever. Given the cost, I decided to hold off on getting my "lifetime warranty" blinds fixed (just couldn't see outside) and didn't think much of it until I had issues with another set of blinds that I purchased from Budget Blinds in SF for my rental property. Those blinds cost a fraction of what I paid for equal size/quality and BUDGET BLINDS came out IMMEDIATELY to fix the blinds for FREE! To add to my frustration, I purchased another set of blinds (sorry only 5, not 30) over 2 months ago and they still have yet to finalize my order. At first they responded with apologies to get the order resolved and now they have gone radio silent on me...again. Their excuse is that they are terribly busy but I'm sorry, Budget Blinds and every other shade company in SF are probably equally as busy. read more

We had a few Hunter Douglas blinds where the pull up/down strings broke off. These were installed before we moved into our apartment and I didn't know where the previous owner purchased them from. Anyway, I called National Blinds and worked with someone name Abby (sp?) on the phone and thru text messages and she was SO HELPFUL and understanding. I really appreciated how she provided an estimate first after our initial call and then confirmed the price once the blinds were picked up to get my approval on the cost. I wish I could have gotten these people to help me. They installed a blind on a skylight for my neighbor, but seemed completely disinterested in doing the same for me. Pretty bizarre really, they wouldn't even return my emails let alone provide me a quote. The only response I received was a message stating " the fabric choice of your neighbor was not available in your size". A) I'm not sure my window is any different than my neighbors in size, so how did it work for him and not me? B) I had no clue what my fabric choices were to begin with, so i would have happily discussed other fabric choices if they were available. C) my skylight is 18' off the ground, so I never actually measured it in the first place--maybe you have the initiative to send a tech out to actually measure my window and THEN let me know what choices are available? Unfortunately no, they won't be sending someone out to measure and quote, they won't even acknowledge my attempts to contact them. I am baffled, as I was only hoping to drop $$$$ on a motorized blind for my skylight like my neighbor did. Oh well, it's getting cool now, so I will wait for next summer and make arrangements with a company that actually communicates and wants to do business. read more

I ordered PowerView power-operated Hunter Douglas Silhouette shades from National Blinds and I'm very happy with the end result (it's been 3+ months since installation). There were some rough edges in the sales experience (I received some emails that were meant for another customer) and the salesperson I was dealing with seemed pretty stretched. The installation guys were excellent: very capable, respectful and careful to get it done right. The PowerView app on my iPhone/iPad worked very well to set up my shades and schedule the operation. When the blinds are operated according to the predefined schedule, they work perfectly 99% of the time. When I operate them manually from the PowerView iPhone/iPad app, they can be a little less reliable... some patience and persistence is required to get them in the position I want. The solution was very expensive, but I'm happy that most of the time, I don't have to worry about raising or lowering the shades... it all happens automatically and I can change the schedule easily. read more

I recently had to have National Blinds repair two (expensive) Hunter Douglas Silhouette shades -- one in each of the two bedrooms -- under warranty. I was pleasantly surprised that owner Israel remembers me after all these years -- about five years since the blinds were installed; six year manufacture warranty on the shades. Owners Abe and Israel went out of their way to accommodate our scheduling constraints and privacy concerns. As it turned out, the clutch on each of the shades was broken and had to be replaced. Abe ordered the parts from Hunter Douglas but the factory sent the wrong parts and the installer realized this problems a few days before the scheduled repair on-site, which was a huge accommodation National Blinds was able to make so that we didn't have to live with "exposed" windows for two weeks (the summer heat from the sun and neighbors prying eyes were huge concerns -- yes, it gets very hot when the rise comes up in the morning, even at The Infinity). Abe got on the phone promptly with Hunter Douglas and had them Fed Ex the proper clutches from Colorado to San Francisco. The new parts arrived in time for the scheduled on-site repair. The installers showed up too early (eager to please) on the scheduled date and were kind enough to wait until we were ready to let them come inside the residence to begin the repairs. They were professional and helped moved personal property out of the way (and move them back afterwards) for optimal access to effectuate the repairs. The repairs were made effectively, efficiently and professionally! Excellent experience from the time I contacted National Blinds about the problem until the repairs were made. It was a hassle free experience. Great customer service! I am loyal to companies that do right by their customers so I'll go back to National Blinds in the future for my window covering needs. read more

Lousy customer service! Two weeks ago, they told me that they would have an estimate for some blinds within the next couple of days, as long as they could get in to measure the place. Later, they email saying they couldn't get in, since the front desk attendant for the condo building didn't expect them. While they could have just walked across the street to the sales office to ask about the unit (it's in contract), I thought maybe they had just overlooked that. Fast forward one week. They finally get in to measure the place and promise a quote by Monday. Monday passes, and there's no quote. They say they'll get to it on Tuesday. Tuesday passes, and the same. They say they'll have a quote by Wednesday. Wednesday passes, and still no quote. Finally, on Thursday, I get quote that's both high and doesn't include one of the bedrooms. I've gotten better service buying a $10 book from Amazon. Avoid these guys. read more

We took down our 8-year-old honeycomb shades as part of the prep for painting, and realized just how filthy they were. We knew they were dirty -- we'd never gotten them cleaned before -- but our collection of particulate matter and urban detritus was truly impressive. We called around and discovered that since we have shades over 6ft long, we don't have many options of where to take them for cleaning. We ended up taking them to National, and we were pleasantly surprised with the reasonable quote they gave us. The shades would take a week to clean, and we delivered them just before a week-long vacation, since exhibitionism isn't our thing. (Not that there's anything wrong with it...) This is where the trouble began. When we dropped them off, the guy we talked to told us that because of their age and material he wasn't sure they would be able to clean our shades without destroying them. He insinuated that they were cheap, a lower quality than the ones he'd be hoping to sell us if we needed replacements. We told him to give it a try, and we'd keep our fingers crossed. We also asked him to make a note that we'd be out of the country for the week, with no access to voicemail. When we returned, they'd left a voicemail with the same warning -- they'd ignored our instructions and hadn't tried to clean the shades after all. Again, their only suggestion was that we replace them. We asked them again to try, and they said they would try with half of them. They called back saying they tried with a couple of them, and they came to the conclusion that they couldn't clean them without destroying them. They gave us back our shades, and didn't charge us (which we appreciated). We re-hung them dirty, after living with full exposure for another week. We can't tell which ones they allegedly attempted to clean. We aren't really sure what to make of them. It's understandable that a business would want to avoid destroying our shades, and they do get points for not even trying to charge us, but they lose points for the repeated sales pitch, for holding our shades for a week without doing anything with them despite our consent to take the risk, and for keeping them an extra week with no apparent progress. Whether or not it's true, the word "shady" comes to mind. I never could resist a pun. read more

I used this company once many years ago, and the woman I worked with was great, and the service and products were good, if not a bit expensive. I have since moved and needed window coverings for my new place. I contacted National Blinds, and the woman I worked with was gone, so Israel, the owner, came out to provide an estimate (I live less than a mile from their location). He took measurements and then took a long time (i.e., weeks) to provide estimates. The products quoted were too expensive for my budget, so he re-did the quotes with new options. It was still too expensive (above what I told him would work for me). I told him that neighbors of mine had done their windows very nicely for much less money. I also told him that I wanted to do business with him. His response was that he would not provide alternatives, because he had given me several options already to choose from. When I asked for him to provide the measurements of my windows so I could comparison shop, (e.g. maybe I might come back to him if I didn't find better/cheaper) he refused to provide me with the measurements. What was once a good customer-vendor relationships is now gone. I will never do business with this company again. read more

OK, first of all the end product was a 5 star installation of blinds; the process getting there was a 2 star experience--yes i know that averages out to 3 stars, but the owner, Israel, put forth great effort to make things right and that bumps it up. Our neighbors did all the hard work and got quotes from different places, and National Blinds came in the lowest for the same Hunter Douglas blinds. So we just cut to the chase and went with them. Main issues were timeliness and communication problems. I am just an on time kinda person, and if I am paying for a service and product, I want to know when it is going to happen, and if it isn't going to happen, just give me a call. Examples: 1. first time we went to the store, it opened 30 minutes late. 2. when they came to do the in-house sample consultation they were an hour late 3. Once I gave them my credit card, they said it would be about 10 working days for the blinds to get in. Three weeks later I called and then they told me in would be another week, but they did set up the installation appointment. 4. When the installation guy showed up 40 minutes late with the wrong blinds, I almost flipped a lid. How they made it right: 1. I called and told the person who answered the phone that I needed a call from the owner ASAP because I was about to cancel my order--I got a call from Israel within 10 minutes. It was his first day off in months, and he said he would drive to Novato to his warehouse, pick up my blinds, and install them himself that same day. 2. He showed up that afternoon and within 45 minutes all 8 windows had our hand picked blinds on them and they looked fantastic. Overall, I would totally recommend them--the quality of product is fantastic and the owner cares about his business. I just learned that I had to be a bit more flexible, and they learned that a simple phone call helps a ton. read more

Experience with this place was a nightmare. Not only were the people miserable to deal with, but they also quoted me a roller shade and motor that wouldn't even have worked for my window size. I called in to see if they had Somfy motorized shades. The salesperson (young man) on the other line mumbled they did. After driving over, I entered and requested Somfy blackout shades. He said they didn't have it. I stared at him blankly and left, thinking I went to the wrong place. After glancing up at the sign again, I entered and asked. He clarified that they didn't have Somfy-brand shades but they had Somfy-brand motorization. The shades were Hunter Douglas. You'd think he'd care enough to correct me the first time around. I asked for a quote for the window size I had measured and then requested a consultation for the design of the shades and to have the window remeasured. Instead of booking a time or taking down my number, he gave me a card and told me to call the designer... putting the initiative on me (after I had drove down to the store). Against my better judgment, I eventually called and booked an appointment. The designer came late and cursorily measured the window as I flipped through the swatches and chose one I liked. She seemed entirely disinterested. She gave me a brief explanation that I could either go with Hunter Douglas motorization or Somfy motorization. Hunter Douglas was cheaper but newer and she had a lot of angry customers because the motorization wasn't working, so she recommended the Somfy. Not much other explanation was given, besides that she would send me two quotes. With that, she left. I would find out later through other designers that the Hunter Douglas would definitely be defective for my window, because it was not even rated for my window size. No wonder they have angry customers. On pricing, their price was a bit more than Budget Blinds (pretty comparable) so I went with Budget Blinds. Conclusion: What a debacle of a business. Call if you need a comparative quote but I would be very hesitant to do business with them. read more

I needed two Hunter Douglas mini-blinds to be repaired, in a hurry. I called on Monday evening at 5:30 and the owner, Israel, said that he would wait (closed at 6:00PM). Israel checked my blinds and recommended that they both needed to be re-strung. Israel said he would put a rush on the order and have them ready by Friday. I checked on Friday, but they couldn't find my order. I checked Saturday, too, but still no blinds. This sounded like the beginning of a bad story/review, but the employees reached Israel by telephone and he promised to find my order (sounded like "lip service"). Israel called on Sunday afternoon to tell me that they found my missing blinds, and he apologized. I arranged to pick up the blinds on Monday. Israel produced the blinds, as promised, AND, NO CHARGE! Mistakes happen, but how you recover makes all the difference. I'll be back! read more

Yes they are expensive but you are talking to someone who always went to HOME DEPOT or LOWE'S.... before I would spent half as much money and would have to wait TWICE as long for someone that didn't know this department o help me. BUT here is so much nicer. You pay a premium, but you are paying for SUPER customer service along with a really great wide variety. I came in to buy some blinds for my bedroom for the condo I moved into. But because I purchased these blinds BEFORE I realized that the hallway lights are on ALL NIGHT, I called them to say that they don't block out the light. They were so super cool that they told me to bring them back in and they re-ordered the new ones with that black- out material. All I had to do was pay for the shipping of the new blinds. I will be back to order more from them. HOME DEPOT does not do that. read more

I wanted to write a very positive review for Israel Yachdav and everyone else at National Blinds. I just had my blinds installed and I am so so happy. You have to understand that I am an extremely picky consumer when it comes to my new condo--the money in it not only represents all of my hard work through my medical training, but that of my parents. I only want the best and I have made my decisions carefully for what I want to put in my place, be it furniture, bed, and of course--blinds. The whole experience with my blind installation was very educational as I am the type of person that has to know every detail about everything before I make my decision. I have gained a great deal of knowledge but it took me months to make my decision on such a large purchase, as there are 11 windows/balcony door glass to cover in my condo unit. Israel was never inpatient with my OCD nature and attention to detail. He went so far and above anything any other contractor would have done for me in terms of time and counseling. He made multiple trips out to my place first off, showing me countless samples of blinds. He even let me keep some samples of the Alustra Silhouettes in my place and didn't bat an eyelid when I wasn't able to return them for weeks. He let me also keep for a couple of days the entire book of pirouette blind sample fabrics in my condo so that I could really see what they looked like in my windows and in my light. Not to mention the fact that Israel is an expert and leader in his field. He designed a special bracket to be used on blinds only in our building when the standard ones would not work. Once when I was calling him, he apologized, stating he was out of town at an International Blinds Conference in Atlanta. I was impressed by his desire to really see what is cutting edge in his field. His staff is also helpful, and was always willing to show me more and contemplate my choice with me in their showroom. In addition, I thought I had a problem with the remote of my motorized blinds after they were installed, and Israel came back out to check everything--I'm not sure what the issue was, but I no longer have it, and Israel assured me everything was ok. I consider Israel the best blind installation person in the Bay Area (trust me, I did my homework). The blinds are very expensive, so be prepared to pay a pretty penny, but you do get what you pay for. In the end, I am ecstatic with my Alustra Silver Reflection motorized blinds on the 7 windows/balcony door in the living area and my Wool colored pirouette blinds in the bedrooms. I went to Home Depot...same prices and less enthusiastic employees...who kept wanting to sell me the $70 version bright white ones. ok no...i want certain colors. I went on Blinds.com...I paid less than $500 for same HD blinds. Granted no fancy ultra-whatever. Pretty happy. If you have cash to burn go to National. They were nice. I thought I had reviewed these guys already, but I guess I forgot to post the review. No time like the present. These guys did a fantastic, and very professional, job installing our blinds over a year ago. The consultant who helped us was professional, her input was very helpful, and her communication was fantastic. Yes the blinds were expensive, and yes it was a big job. Fast forward to the present, more than a year later now. One of our blinds has a problem (not a manufacturer defect, not anything related to a shoddy product, just a tangled cord created by someone who didn't seem to understand how to work the blinds and something that couldn't be fixed by my non handy hands). I call the shop. I speak to them. They come out, they have to take the blind in for repair. They bring it back. They reinstall it. It works perfectly now. They did it all with a smile and never asked to see my receipt (which I have) nor did they ask me for a penny. Now, that is customer service. I was pretty happy with my purchase from the beginning, but now that it has stood the customer service test of time, I am truly impressed. 5 stars for them, they deserve it. read more

Beware of the price gouge! I first used National Blinds 7 years ago to install my loft window shades. I loved the service and I loved Israel. Then, last month, the motor in one my shades broke down and of course I called them to help repair it. $250 for a house visit, where they would either repair or replace the motor. They brought 2 motors for my window shades, at the cost of $1114 for a pair of motors, and recommended I replace both (only 1 was broken at the time). I paid because they were already there and they had the motors in hand. I didn't want another $250 service fee for them to come out again, and I trusted them in the past, so I didn't question the large price tag. They left me the old motors and I searched for them on google. I could have gotten new, identical motor for $500 a PAIR on amazon, or as little as $250 a pair on eBay (a little less trustworthy but massive $ difference). Before I paid, I tried negotiating with National Blinds to meet me halfway on the price - $750 instead of the $1114, but they refused to budge. At this point the motors were already installed and it was too late to undo the work. It is the last time I will be using their service. National charged me at least DOUBLE the cost on these motors. As nice as their service guys were, I can not recommend any place that charges double to quadruple the cost. So before you commit to buying anything from National, get the information on what they're trying to install and spend 5 minutes doing a price comparison online. It'll save you tons of $. read more

Over 5 years ago I redecorates my house with UV and blackout blinds. I subsequently returned to install and replace the blinds in my bedroom. Israel provided excellent service and the company has also been receptive to repairs throughout the years. I would highly recommend. read more

We ordered Hunter-Douglas blinds more than a year ago from National Blinds. We bought the top-down/bottom-up blinds because of their great functionality to expose sunlight without revealing too much to the neighbors! Fast forward a year later and we noticed that the blinds were not really holding in place as we thought they should - every time we tried to 'squeeze' the blinds to the middle, either the top or bottom would fall through. I called National Blinds to find out what they could do for us. Mind you, this is more than a year later. They didn't question the timing or the problem at all. They came to inspect the problem. Then they brought us temporary blinds. And returned our blinds to the manufacturer to have them fixed. All at no expense to us. Two weeks later our blinds were returned and they function perfectly. Their willingness to go above and beyond is noteworthy. I highly recommend them for your next purchase!! read more
