According to our friend this was the best Thai place in the Seattle area and we knew we had to try it while on Vashon Island. Reservation is highly recommended on weekends. We didn't have a reservation and had to wait for about an hour for a table, we got there as soon as they opened to put our names down and then went off to explore the area while we waited for our table to be ready. We found unique items on the menu and took us a bit to decide what we wanted to try. With some suggestions from our waitress, we got Pad Thai, Gaeng Faak Thong, Grapao and Kaidao. Grapao and Kaidao was amazing, we loved the spice with green beans and chicken, and the fried egg on top. Gaeng Faak Thong was great too, we loved the taste of the curry. Pad Thai was great. We will definitely be back soo.

Living on Vashon has its challenges, like being at the mercy of a ferry system that continues to become less and less reliable. But we're spoiled because we have the best Thai restaurant in the area. We've come here numerous times -- by ourselves, with out-of-town guests, and we've even lured local friends onto the island with the promise of incredible Thai food. And nobody has ever been disappointed. The dishes are packed with so much flavor and the service is fantastic. Some favorites: Yum makua (starter; fried eggplant) Grapao and kaidao (main; basil fried rice) Gaeng faak thong (main; kabocha squash curry) Gaeng khaio waan (main; green curry) Phad makua (main; similar to the yum makua) Phad Thai (it sounds basic, but their presentation of it really elevates the dish!) They've started offering a Sunday brunch, which is also outstanding.

Came here for an early dinner so we were able to walk in. Unfortunately the young man at check in sat us at a high table top. When I asked for a shorter table, he said we'd have to wait another hour and a half, so we sucked it up and I was about to give my elderly mother a leg up. to vault onto the high chair when a manager saw what we were doing and she insisted on getting us a low table. She talked to the check in guy (hopefully to tell him that you can't endanger the elderly by making them vault onto a high chair) and then had a just emptied table cleaned for us. Thank you, manager for being mindful and seeing that a disaster was waiting to happen. Mom picked the Pad Thai and I ordered the Pad See Ew. I thought my dish was the sweetest Pad See Ew i'd ever had, but it was good. Our waitress, Calliope was very friendly and when she brought my mom's Pad thai out, she assembled it table side, explaining why each component wa there and how it functioned in the dish. We weren't expecting a show, but that felt really fancy. We also had live entertainment- a guitarist playing some light favorites. We'd heard such great things about this restaurant and they definitely lived up to the reputation. I'd be giving them five stars if not for the awkwardness with the high table top and chairs earlier, but I'll definitely be happy to give them another try.

Spent the day on Vashon visiting my partners family. Stopped in for dinner here. Ambiance - heavy curtains are put up to keep the restaurant dark and vibey. A lot of wood with some Thai touches all over, no complaints. Food - We started with the pork satay. The Pork was a little dry but the flavor was delicious. The sauce was amazing and even the cucumber salad on the side was a nice pairing and so refreshing. My partner ordered the pad see iew. She enjoyed it but said, it was nothing special and could have been spicier. I liked it. I had the PHAD PHED GAENG DANG which is basically a spicy curry with chicken. It was delicious, could have been spicier but overall the flavor was nice. Why 2 stars? Service. Just bad. We were seated right away and came just after opening. Took a minute for our waitress to come by, but when she did we gave our drink orders and needed to review the menu more. We didn't see her for 15 minutes and when she came back she still didn't have our drinks. We put in our order, about 30 MINUTES later we got our drink and appetizer. It took another 30-45 minutes for us to get our entrees. If you're keeping track, that's an HOUR+ from placing our order, to us getting our food. During this time we saw other tables seated, served and checked out, plenty of to-go orders going out the door while we were still waiting for our food. Not even a check in. Safe to say we won't be back. Horrible service.

This drink is overwhelmed by a huge brick of ice and a lack of much else

Very good, almost great. We ordered old fashioned cocktails, papia taud (spring rolls), thom ka soup, and red curry with prawns. The food was excellent, really nice flavors and nuances. Everything was amazing. My only desire (food-wise) was to have a bit more spice (or the option, none was given when we ordered). The drinks were disappointing. Our old fashioned drinks were very watery and lacked the whisky burn and flavor profiles one expects from a decent old fashion. Each cocktail had a huge brick of ice---so big I could barley sip the cocktail without the huge ice brick blocking the alcohol from reaching my lips. I wish the cocktails had the nuance and subtle complexity that was given to the food---that would have bumped May Kitchen and Bar to a 5 star review. I would definitely go back for the food. The ambiance was lovely too, it's a really nice space.

Turns out, May was the only appropriate restaurant to enjoy my first Thai brunch. I mean outside of Thailand that is! And it was perfect! Super cozy brunch with lots of yummy menu items! The top for me was the son in law eggs! Crispy fried (what seemed like hard boiled) eggs with fresh cilantro and beautiful tamarind sauce. The mushroom and cheese omelet was stellar and everyone was raving about the khao Tom soup! I loved that they had lychee mimosas. The donuts were served with bright green pandan custard which was a beautiful aesthetic to complement the colors of the restaurant and as a bonus, tasted like fruity pebbles! The cherry on top was the sweet service. Don't sleep on their brunch folks!

This was such a great find while we were visiting Vashon Island! They don't open until 4pm for dinner. We ordered the fried watercress and shrimp for appetizers. The watercress was incredible. We also ordered the Tom Kha soup which was super creamy and flavorful. It was a different twist on the soup but still with the classic flavors. We also got the green curry with shrimp which was super tasty! Our server Suzy was the sweetest she surprised our mom with a delicious birthday dessert! Such an incredible experience!

Never again. I am not sure what this is in their pad Thai and neither did my friend who owns a Thai restaurant in DC and VA. I have been eating Thai food for years i. All different cities ... and have never seen anything like it in my food. It was absolutely disgusting to the point I threw up picking it out of the food.i am trying to attach photos but they seem to disappear with the review. It looks like worms or scales.

Now, I'd just had some bad things happen in my life and was looking for something that might bring me some joy, so I ordered the strip even though it was a little pricey, and I didn't know much about the place. My brother in Christ, let me tell you, that was the most gloriously delicious steak I've ever eaten. Cooked perfectly. Buttery. An almost crackling crust. Seasoned well but not overwhelming. My wife's noodles were also fantastic, but that steak was out of this world. She made me trade once she tasted it. We finished with a really nice, not too sweet chocolate mousse. They nailed all of it. I'm as shocked as anyone to tell you that this was the best restaurant meal I've ever had, and I don't like anything.

This place commits to sourcing almost everything they have locally and they make a lot of their own base ingredients including every sauce they serve. The Ruby Brink is particularly well suited as a good bar that still has restaurant class food, especially if you just go out with your adult friends and not necessarily your family of five. Different restaurants are tiered to different clientele and I especially appreciate that they serve their target audience: adults looking for a damn good meal, super well! Their menu is prepared every single day depending on what's available at the time. Don't be surprised if you see different dishes on it from just going there a week previous. In my opinion this keeps it fun although they still make sure to keep their classic favorites around. Definitely five out of five stars for me

The four generous slices of bacon were a nice surprise. The bacon and hash browns could have been a little crispier for our taste, but that's an easy fix and we'll simply request them extra crispy next time. The cocktails all seem to be named after nautical terms, likely a nod to their island locale. I got the Buoy, which was a tequila-based cocktail with blackberry, Campari, and rosemary. It was quite refreshing. We split the smoked salmon chips and dip, because we both love smoked salmon and Old Bay. This was tasty, but I think a cream cheese dip requires a chip that's sturdier than a potato chip. I ordered the seared ahi and my spouse ordered the burger. We both enjoyed the seared ahi, though I wish it had more of the whipped tahini and harissa. We agreed that the burger was solid, but not the best restaurant burger we've had. The fish was a bit greasy and somewhat dry, and personally I think cod or halibut would have made for a better fish. I've had better fish and chips elsewhere on the island, so this probably isn't something I would order again. The highlight of the meal was the local rockfish. Two nicely seared pieces of fish were served over a flavorful tomato and vegetable medley with a couple of fried artichokes. The fish was cooked perfectly, and the broth at the bottom of the plate was delicious. I only wish there had been some crusty bread to soak it all up. This is definitely a dish I would order again. The kids' meals were also solid. The chicken strips tasted fresh and looked great, and the cheeseburger appeared to be a generous quarter-pound burger. I especially appreciated that the kids' meal can be served with a fruit cup that contains actual quality fruit instead of the typical melon-heavy mix. My only hesitation with the kids' menu is the price. At around $17 for chicken strips or a cheeseburger, it feels a bit expensive. Families may find better value by having kids split one of the larger entrées. We also tried the grilled spring asparagus, which was delicious and paired well with the sauce, but at $19 for six spears, the portion felt a little underwhelming for the price. Service was friendly and attentive throughout our visit, and the overall quality of the food was good. I've also been here for weekend brunch, which is consistently excellent and one of the reasons I keep coming back. Whenever I'm on Vashon Island, The Hardware Store remains a place I'll happily stop at for a meal. Overall, a very good dining experience with a few dishes I'd order again and a few I'd skip next time.

Not inedible, maybe a 2/5, but I'd definitely try something else next time. My friend ordered what I think was the Garden Harvest Wrap (a staple on the menu), and that was more of a 3/5. Both dishes were served cold (intentionally), which I think made a difference, I could totally see them being much better if they were warm. Now let's talk about what is worth it: the mimosa flight. SO good. Like dangerously easy to sit there, sip through all of them, and forget any minor food disappointments. But honestly, the real star here is the ambiance.
