Don't know why there are so many harsh reviews. My husband was reluctant to try because of them. Service was excellent! Food came out quickly & hot. I wanted to try this place because it's very rare that you find a Chinese restaurant that has Gluten-Free options available and are posted on their menu. I ate the GF Mango Chicken... it was delicious! My husband and his brother that are not GF ordered the Peking Duck and they were very happy with their meal. The rice was not cooked fully through, the rice to food ratio is probably around 3:1, the shrimp were rubbery/small and we found a hair in one of the dishes. Fried rice came lunch special but was bland very little flavor. Gave place a two star because they added a 15% gratuity to the check. I may have missed it but I didn't see anywhere on the menu advising the customer of that policy. Added gratuity is common with large groups and is understandable, but it was just two of us. The check shows the added 15% but doesn't say it's a gratuity. If you don't see it or don't ask they charge you and still have line available to add more gratuity. After an hour and multiple "10 minute" promises later, I was still waiting. No apology, no offer of a glass of water, no communication except when I would ask for the status of my order only to be told "10 minutes" again and again. Order finally came out and as it was almost 8 pm and my family and friends were waiting at home for dinner, we left without checking the large order. I ordered the Deluxe Fried rice Togo two orders and after I was eating it I noticed that I had no shrimp in my order and besides that the rice is not all cooked through I had crunchy bits in my rice. What really frustrates me is when the people who work there done understand their own menu options. Online - on their very own website- it clearly states you can get. 16 oz or 26 oz side of lo mein noodles. Perfect item for the kids. The lady refused is listen and said it was really small and wouldn't even let me order either item. I'm not sure if this was the owner or not - but she acted like a boss around the staff. The owner told me that it happens all the time from oxygen, that they would refund me but they've been doing this for 30 years and it's good to eat and I'm taking it too seriously. Told me to call them again if it made me sick...DO NOT EAT IT if your food comes like this. This is mold, not oxidization. To start off the food is mediocre, but what really shocked me about this restaurant is their customer service. We ordered fried rice and to our surprise the dish contained curry seasoning which we do not eat. Respectfully we told the waitress that it was not what we expected and she presumed to say it was written on the menu that it contained curry which IT DID NOT and I showed her that. The manager was near and muffled "well that's how we do it here." The waitress took the dish away, grabbed our fork and took the shrimp pieces that was on our plate. We ordered another dish because we needed more food. At the end, she brought the check over with ONLY HALF THE AMOUNT TAKEN OFF. They took the curry plate completely away including what was on our plate and still charged us. Ridiculous. Any restaurant with good customer service would have removed the charge. Also, the tip is already included on the bill. If you end up going there, which I don't recommend, keep that in mind so you don't double tip. read more

I'm really surprised by some of the not-so-laudatory reviews of May Palace! We arrived in Vail after an 11 hour drive to meet family at a time share. We were planning on cooking for most of our stay, but when everyone got there and hadn't had any chance to unpack, we looked for delivery. This was not the fastest delivery... about an hour or so in, we called and were told it was on the way. When it arrived, everything was hot (as hot as delivery can be!) and surprisingly good. We had a variety of dishes... fried rice, sweet & sour pork, orange chicken, pork dumplings, pork moo-shu, and wanton soup. The only disappointing thing was the soup, but everything else was really good! And note that there were three chefs in our party... we may not know Chinese like a native, but between people who have been cooking for decades and people who have been traveling for decades, we have a pretty good idea of when something's wrong ;-) Check some of my other reviews. Not sure we'll return to Vail, as the altitude was a bit much for some of us low-landers, and nobody skis any more. But if we did, we would absolutely order from May Palace again! read more
