Whatever happened to the chinese food "experience" with little boxes, chopsticks, and fortune cookies? I specifically asked for chopsticks and ordered $100 in chinese food. I got home.....no chopsticks, no fortune cookies and no to go boxes! I even asked if the chopsticks were in the bag and they lied to me. Also the food was horrible. The vegetable fried rice was not vegetable or fried. Just rice. So I didn't get the experience or a satisfying meal....just $100 less $ in my life. Watsonville is lacking a good Chinese restaurant. Add May's to a yet another forgettable choice. Biggest turnoff was the young lady who served me. She had the demeanor of Miss Frosty she greeted me with a tart "...take out?" I told her no, dine in. Which she told me "sit"! and I asked her anywhere of which she just nodded her head. She literally tossed the menu at me, returning about 3 minutes later took my order and walked away with that annoyed look. When she returned about 10 minutes later with my order she literally plonked it on the table, sighed and walked away. The whole experience involved less than 10 words and lots of attitude. Soup and lunch entree arrived at the same time? Even though portion was decent, food mediocre, bland tasting and soup not hot plus the unpleasant service I don't believe I'll be back. I really like Chinese food. A little over a year ago we moved from Santa Cruz to Watsonville. I needed to find my goto fix. I've tried all the local options. Some places were not very good. Some were OK. One is pretty good, but pricey. My standout is May's Garden. Everything at May's works: Ambiance: May's is a family restaurant serving great food in a clean warm setting. Don't expect a white cloth tablecloth. It's not fancy. Service: The service has always been pleasant and attentive. I have never waited too long for anything. Food: The food at May's is quite wonderful. My favorites are the Kung Pao veggies/tofu, the MaPo tofu, eggplant with black bean sauce, and the dry fried string beans. An incredible pairing is the MaPo tofu served over the perfectly fried crispy "Shanghai style" thin noodles along with the dry fried string beans. The "Shanghai style" noodles pair so well with the tofu's sauce. The beans are the perfect veggie. Cost: My Chinese food sampling also found May's to be around the least expensive option. I found their bang for the buck to be the best. I really like Chinese food. These guys are great. read more

I'll explain, do i need to add soy sauce, is it too cold to eat, etc. The food was fresh and good quality but little flavor, it needed seasoning. This place used to be Kings Garden, I think they switched owners and did some remodeling. The inside now looks way cleaner and presentable. Cash only for now but the owner assured me that they are setting up a card system very soon(she told me it should be up next week). Now for the food, egg flower and hot and spicy soups are good, I've had better. Chow mein is very good, not dry at all and not lacking flavor. Rice is very good as well, maybe missing a bit of flavor (I added soy sauce and it was great after). Sweet and sour chicken is great. Cashew broccoli was great. And I absolutely loved their pineapple chicken, highly recommend it. Overall I did enjoy the food and will be back. It is pricier than Kings Garden but so is every other Chinese restaurant in town. read more

Yes, it's true -the interior has been completely remodeled. Nothing fancy, but it's so cool that they invested in this old historic building. Food was stand-up but not especially good. Chinese chicken salad had lettuce as the only veg. ...bummer. But great service and great prices. Can't wait to come back and try the won ton and other Chinese classics. read more
