This restaurant is a manifestation of everything I love about Chinese restaurants. If it were in the bayarea, it would have been my monthly haunt. *Ambiance : is not spectacular, it's well maintained and clean though. They have a lot of plastic and plush toys behind the counter and some shockingly pink artificial orchids on each table top. *Food: this is where I went weak in my knees after sampling the spread in front of me. Such simple yet mind bogglingly delicious food! If it were not for the large amount of grease across the dishes, I would have rated this as my favorite Chinese restaurant in the bayarea. We got chicken fried rice, chicken chow mein, Mongolian chicken and chicken with green beans. Fried rice was moist and umami rich. The noodles had a thick delicious sauce coating them. The green beans were addictively crunchy. The chicken was soft and flavorful. I reached my happy place after this meal. read more

What a nice and cozy spot with such hospitable staff. We were not expecting such huge portions for under 20 dollars each, but we got more than enough for what we paid. The flavors were solid especially with the sides in the dinner plate meal. This place offers variety of both traditional and western style Chinese food for the familiar comfort of Chinese cuisine no matter your experience with it. Stopped in for lunch while passing through, what a pleasant dining experience. A small eatery, with a handful of tables and booths. We were kindly greeted walking in and grabbed a booth by the front. The place was busy the afternoon of our visit. After enjoying the food, its no wonder why it was packed. Excellent Chinese food here, with friendly home style service. A traditional Chinese menu with a wide selection of options. After giving the menu a perusal, we started with the Crab Meat wontons, eight to an order they were very good and a nice beginning to an excellent meal. I went for the Salt & Pepper Fish spicy, what an exceptional meal. So light, fresh and tasty, tender fried fish in a light crunchy batter. I have had this dish at other restaurants and the preparation here is top notch. Some of the best I've had. My partner went for the Chicken and Snow peas, again it was an excellent meal. A hearty serving, with nicely prepared chicken pieces and fresh snow peas. She said it was great too. Found this on Yelp as we needed a pit stop for dinner before Moonstone Beach. What a great find. Small and cozy restaurant. Seems to be a local favorite. Chinese a la carte options but happy to see they had family dinner combos. We did the family DINNER C - which came to about $19 per person, and we did not expect it to be a feast. Fried prawns, egg rolls, hot & sour soup, Kung Pao squid, honey pecan shrimp, fried rice, salt & pepper shrimp, black pepper beef, salt & pepper pork chop, Mongolian beef, and sweet & sour fish. 12 items. When we drive from SLO County to SFO to return the rental car and fly somewhere, we have often stopped at the little shopping center in Soledad to grab some lunch. We had always gone to the Mexican place next to Fortune Garden, but this time we decided to go for Chinese. And what a surprise! We got some of the best Chinese food we've ever had in the US. The Wor Wan Tan Soup was so flavorful. Normally I have to doctor it up; this needed only a little hot chili to spice it up. The meat dishes were all excellent. And the service was delightful. Actual hidden gem for sure the food is so good which is unexpected in that area. The worker was also really nice and accommodating and all their stuff is made to order. I also think they make their own chili oil it's soooo good I would definitely go back if I ever come in this area. This is the second time we have been to the restaurant. While, we definitely enjoyed it and considered it very well priced and very convenient for our travels and the quantities are excellent. But our impression on the flavors trip were more in the OK region than in the great region. We would still definitely recommend it, but five stars is a bit high. It's not hard to see why Fortune Garden has 5 stars! Not only is the food delicious but the service/ownership is above and beyond! We stopped by Soledad on our way to SF to charge our car. I ordered a beef chow mein hong style and a lunch special orange chicken, both fantastic! It came with a small hot and sour soup, fried wontons, and fortune cookies of course. The server was so gracious to my 1 year old and gave him a couple of toys to take home! Since I ordered to go, another server offered to walk my items to my car since I was carrying my baby. I thanked them but told them not to worry, plus my car was parked at the other end of the shopping center, but she insisted! It was such a nice gesture and the kind of hospitality I'm not used to living in a big city! I will absolutely be back the next time I'm traveling down the 101! read more

The food is really good here! First time here and it was such a good experience. The portions are a big size too. For 2 people it came up to 30 dollars and that included a drink. We got the lunch specials so that may have been why it was so affordable. The waitress was very kind as well, the only thing I must say is I wish she would have checked on us. She didn't check on us at all so we had to get up several times to ask for things. But she was kind wasn't rude at all. She even gave my little ones balloons so they can play. Good food, we did carry out and do staff experience was limited, they stocked us on to go accessories like fortune cookies and such. Pretty basic but clean interior. The only ding is that the mall is not the easiest to navigate if you're out of area. Once you know where it is, all is good. read more

This has surpassed my expectations a hundred times over. Every time we stop here we now get a list of staples that we eat on for days. Hot and sour soup, fried rice, Szechuan beef, bbq pork chow mein, almond or cashew chicken, general tso's shrimp and maybe some lemon chicken. Everything is so good there. Service is super fast and everyone there is so friendly. The restaurant is always clean and they have been adding to the tables to make them feel more inviting. I wish we lived closer so we could go more often. Also our local Chinese place here in Paso Robles charges double the prices of Fortune Garden and the food is not as good at the place in Paso Robles. read more

We came here for the first time when we were passing by Soledad from Vegas couple weeks ago. It's one of the best chinese restaurant I ever eaten. The service was beyond excellent. The mom and the daughter were very friendly. We had to order more to go to bring back to the hotel because it was that good!! The owner surprised me with a gift box, inside was a pink teddy bear and a necklace. Thank you again!! We will definitely come back when we are in that area!! Driving up from SoCal to the Bay Area we chanced upon this family restaurant in a shopping center. Wasn't really expecting much but pleasantly surprised by the friendly service and excellent food. The vibe is pretty chill and relaxed. I don't usually like chow mein but theirs was amazing! Love their walnut shrimp, orange chicken and green beans! Wow, traveling on Christmas Day and craving Chinese food, of course! Having grown up in NYC and having lived in the Bay Area, I'm picky. Ordered wonton soup and this unassuming place had the best wonton soup ever! Tons of wontons, pork, chicken, shrimp, and fresh veggies. Noodle dish was great, too . Friendly service. Just moved in to city of soledad. Went to yelp to find that this place has a lot of 5 star reviews and decided to check it out. I ordered the egg rolls and the combo and whole plate of food is so soggy and oily. The sides of the plate were leaking oil and into the bag. The chicken had a weird texture like a rubber. The egg roll were very oily like it's been soak in oil. Overall wasn't the hype I anticipated. I would never go back. read more

We stopped here for lunch on the way south from the Bay area. We ordered: Vegetable Fried Rice: Lots of veggies and a lovely wok fried fragrance. Chicken in Black Bean Sauce: Velvety chicken in a savory sauce with bell peppers and onions. Hot and sour soup: Hot and comforting. Even the small sized portion can feed four people. The food was piping hot and very tasty, and arrived promptly. The portion sizes were huge, yet we couldn't stop eating even though we were quite full. My standards for Chinese restaurants come from many years spent living in New York City. On a road trip I basically chance upon this wonderful restaurant. Fantastic food and very friendly service. My go-to dishes, my sort of "test", are wonton soup and Kung pao chicken. Fortune Garden made both of these a 10/10. If you're ever around there, GO! They also gave me wonderful soft sesame cookies as I left that were out of this world. Really nice staff and a great place to go for the finest Chinese food I've stumbled on in years. We stopped to charge our car and grab a bite to eat and I'm so glad we did! The service was excellent and food was quick and delicious. We shared the potstickers, honey walnut shrimp and chicken with black bean sauce. All three dishes were tasty and enjoyed by the whole family. Our server was so kind to our 2 year old and our dog! This is a good Chinese sit down Chinese restaurant. We happened to passed by and decided to give it a try. This is Dec 26, 2025 and they seemed moderately busy from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. I cannot remember the reason why the forks and spoons are plastics and not the silverware. Personally, I do not mind whether the utensils are plastics or stainless steel as long as they provided means to eat the foods. We ordered hot and sour soup, salt and pepper chicken wings and beef chow fun. The hot and sour soup tasted good! The beef chow fun too watery and fried chicken wings not what I used to. This is a family owned restaurant and so, I can see the brother-sisters worked hard taking care of the front. If you are coming from SFO or LAX, please don't set too high expectations on and you will be HAPPY that you get to eat decent Chinese foods when you are craving for Chinese foods that you left behind.
