The Saturday special is a 16" two topping pizza with 12 boneless wings, FOR $20 buck, WOW. This is the perfect special to share with Richelle and watch the IU Hoosiers football game on one of their TV's. This is a neighborhood bar that has good food, and a true regular crowd on the bar side. Big tables, if you have a group of 6-8. There is a less loud dining area. Monday to Sunday daily specials, some menu items you don't normally see, frog legs and chicken livers. Don't hesitate to try this place out. The Saturday we were there there was an issue with the pizza oven so our crust was a little burnt in a few spots, and very brown on on side, but the pizza was still good, plenty of sauce, cheese , pepperoni, mushrooms. Our waitress apologized, and offered to replace it, but we said we'll take it, I like a crispy crust. The boneless wing are a hit, very good, they have a thin breading with a hit of pepper, and a hint of other spices, they are delicious naked. I got the sriracha bourbon sauce, and honey bbq, I mixed them for a perfect flavor of sweet and heat for me. Well I had to get a pork tenderloin, it was delicious too, comes with tavern chips, yum! The beer choices are from the Anheuser-Busch and Miller brand, no fancy domestic beers or imports, or local brews, but that means no expensive pints, and I rediscovered my original favorite Michelob! Wait staff is friendly and service was acceptable for a packed bar full of folks watching Big10 football. So if you're not a regular find a seat and they will get there, in a few minutes. read more

I want to be completely truthful. My husband and I went there for a road trip date i'm from Waldron, so every now and then I like to show Waldron and Saint Paul to him. We absolutely love the atmosphere of the tavern, but it took them a minute when they weren't even busy to even come to our table.The waitress was nice enough, but my husband is an ex police officer, and even before he said something I said she looks like she's high on pills. ( Allegedly). We watched her, take our order back behind the bar and lay it down without adding it to the kiosk that they had to tell the kitchen... Instead, she was more busy or interested in being included in the, looks like regulatory shot time between all the workers and/or whoever was in charge. After watching everyone that was working there, including, we think, was the cook. They all went back to their post, and she finally put our order in, it took forever. The food yes was very good mostly fried stuff, but i've worked in a bar before and the last time I checked, it is illegal to drink while working in a bar.... or maybe that's changed, since I've done that. Went there for lunch today no one ever waited on us. We had bought pull tabs and sat there quite a while. The lady told us to sit anywhere then ignored us. Another guy came in went to the bar and she talked to him rather than waiting on us. She had already waited on 4 bikers in the family area that walked in the same time as us. This is not our first time there. We decided to leave since no one would take an order. As we left a guy setting up the sound stage stuff just kind of looked at us with surprise we told him no one would wait on us so we were leaving. We decided to give this small town tavern a try. It was the all you can eat frog legs night. They usually do it on Wednesday evening and the place gets a rockin. $15.95 and they are pretty quick to bring you more when you ask. My hubby and his brother got this while us girls ordered something off the menu. Jade was our waitress and she did a great job waiting on us and ensuring we had everything we needed. My dish was a baked chicken with mushrooms and cheese and it was very good. We have already decided we are going back here because the hubby really liked the frog legs. read more

The St Paul Tavern has the best food and service in the area. This is a small town hot spot with a bar and separate family dining room in the heart of old downtown. While the tavern has a lot of character. They have recently replaced the tables and chairs. There are multiple TVs playing sports channels and a fancy electronic juke box. The menu is typical Indiana bar food plus pizzas. They offer a large selection of domestic, import and craft beer. They have a robust lunch crowd. My husband had the pork tenderloin, which he said was thick and very good. The tavern chips are nicely browned and crispy and probably the best in the state. I had the mushroom burger, which was large with plenty of thick mushrooms and melted cheese. The burger was filling and delicious. The fries are ok, I think the chips are better. The service is super friendly - I think she even called me beautiful. The service was efficient 5 star. They offer nightly specials and have music on certain night. There is plenty of street parking. Different specials every day and a great family friendly pub with a bar only side. All you can eat frog legs on Wednesday but show up early because they may run out. They did while we were there and had the option to order all you can eat haddock. Great service from the waitstaff. They have eight or so rotating taps with maybe 25 rotating bottles. Wine and liquor available and bottles of Buffalo Trace for sale at a fair price for a bar. I had the all you can eat fish, Cole slow and the rest of the table tried the fried mushrooms, fried pickles, fried chicken livers and burgers. Everyone was very happy with their meal. Comfort food on a Friday night! The special is all you can eat fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, Cole slaw, and fried biscuits with apple butter. So delicious. There is a family dining side, as well as seating in the bar. Not a lot of parking in this small town, and I suspect every car was at St Paul Tavern, as it's the only eatery around. We arrived at 6:30 and all tables were taken. A waitress came up and took our drink orders. Within minutes we were seated at a large table in the bar. The menu features standard bar food. My brother-in-law enjoyed his pork tenderloin sandwich. My only regret was the trash can by the door that was overflowing with chicken bones, paper, etc. and the floor around the can, which is by the door, was littered with straws, paper, candies from the vending machine, etc. I suspect a staffing shortage didn't give employees time to tidy up that area. There is one shared restroom in the front and one in the back. Karaoke on Friday night. We left before that began. We were out of place in this restaurant and bar full of regulars, but I'm so glad we stopped on our way between Cincinnati and Indianapolis. It's maybe 5 minutes off the highway and totally worth the brief detour. We had a brief wait for a table, during which two other customers recommended we try the chicken. And that's exactly what I did... three hand breaded tenders with sriracha bourbon sauce. The chicken was thinly breaded and fresh, and the sauce had a slight kick to it without being too spicy. My kids both ate chili (huge portion, not too spicy) and my husband loved his buffalo chicken sandwich. We all loved the tavern chips. This casual joint is nothing fancy, but it's really good food and down to earth service. We'll stop in during future drives to Ohio. read more

Stopped in here after a visit to White rock Park. We wanted to get the authentic Saint Paul experience and we were not disappointed. At bar was cozy and the staff was very friendly. Five dive bar stars, that is. Everything an authentic dive bar should be. Cold beer, one toilet in the whole place, good food and a cigarette sale display behind the bar. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Doesn't seem to matter if you are a regular or this is your first visit. We started with some fried pickles. They were great. Definitely not out of the freezer! I saw a pic of the fish here on yelp and had to get that. Wow. Sweet mother of the fish fry. It was perfect! Fresh and perfectly breaded. Hubby had a good example of the traditional Hoosier tenderloin. He really enjoyed it but was jealous of my fish choice. I shared though. Nice big portions. I'm even taking some home. Casual, bar type atmosphere. We took our kids and sat in their family dining section. Kids had pizza, husband ate a double cheeseburger and I had the tenderloin. We got the fried green beans and chips/queso for appetizer. They did not have a dedicated kids menu, but my kids were satisfied with splitting a pizza so it worked out. Food was good but not excellent and I liked that they have a diverse menu for a bar setting. My only negative was the service was very slow. I've struggled with this review, because I want to like this place better than what I do. Our experience just doesn't merit it. We arrived for an early dinner on a Monday evening, and it soon became obvious that only one person was working, being both bartender and server. There were only a few folks there, so we didn't think it would be an issue. I ordered a breaded tenderloin sandwich, fries, and a side salad. They had wings on special, my wife ordered 10 wings (so she could try two different sauces) and a salad. Before long, we noticed other employees coming in, yet, still we waited for our salads. At the 30 minute mark we became concerned. 40 minutes past. 45. We finally got our salads just past the 50 minute mark. They were good, but nothing special. We barely had time to finish our salads before our meals arrived. The breaded tenderloin was average. To me, I felt like it was a bit overcooked. The fries were crinkle cut (my favorite) and fine. My wife's wings were boneless, which was a surprise, we both expected them to bone in wings, but, oh well. At this point, our drinks were empty, and continued to be that way. When we got our check, my wife was charged full price for her wings instead of the advertised special price. Considering the service issues....well over an hour just to get a very basic meal...and the check issue, I doubt we'll return. read more

Had a really bad experience last night. Not sure if because there were a few larger tables in the family room or what. First they were out of everything pickles, sausage, pineapple, clean plates you name it. We got our drinks right away but after that our server didn't come back to check on us until our food arrived..... which took OVER an hour. In that time she was at the large top next to us several times. I was pretty shocked she didn't come at all to refill drinks or acknowledge the food was taking awhile and let us know it was coming. 2 young guys stood at the door to be seated for several minutes before seating themselves and still took a very long time for a server to come over. I ordered pizza with extra cheese, and light sauce. The pizza came out not even hot but luke warm for the time it took and only the four center pieces had cheese everything else was covered in sauce and no cheese? Once we finally got boxes and we're ready to leave the server started cleaning the filthy dining room instead of bringing us our check until she noticed we were just staring at her waiting to get her attention. I'm writing this on behalf of my parents who do not use Yelp. My mom is freaking out about how delicious the food is. They drove quite a distance to try this place, and when they walked in their first impression wasn't that great. Then the food came. They had the pizza nachos. I got a text with a picture and "DELICIOUS". They also got fried chicken, that text was just "OMG". I think they might be planning to sell the house which is near Indy so they don't have to drive so far every single day for the rest of their lives to have this food. My boyfriend and I stopped in here on a Sunday on the way to his parents in Shelbyville. It's the only place around we could find that was open. The decor is typical dive bar. I ordered the chicken fingers and french fries and my SO ordered the all-you-can-eat fish. My chicken fingers were over breaded and over cooked. The fat crinkle cut french fries were tasty but I could not eat some of them due to them being over cooked also. The fish tasted pretty good with a good batter but they too were over cooked.
