Stopped in for lunch while traveling through Batesville. Restaurant was located conveniently near the interstate and was very easy to find. Inside it was well decorated and had a good atmosphere. The host greeted me and my coworker as soon as we entered the door and seated us immediately. Server showed up promptly and got our drink orders and returned quickly with the drinks and took our food orders. We ordered the lunch fajita special, I ordered beef and my coworker ordered chicken. The food came quickly and was cooked perfectly, sometimes Mexican restaurants seem to over cook the vegetables, but not here, they were very tasty and not black at all. We ate here three times during our recent stay in the area. The food is very fresh, authentic & tasty. I had the lunch portion of Pollo Patron on two occasions and both times it was fresh and delicious. I got two meals out of each generous portion (4 meals total). The third visit, I got the California Burrito and it was fabulous; very different but super tasty! Hubs got enchiladas each time and said his was always very good. The salsa is good, albeit very mild, no real kick to it. The chips are good. The flour tortillas seemed to be the only *meh* as they are just store bought standard tasteless tortillas (I'd recommend requesting corn tortillas). The service was excellent. Our food was always very quick to arrive and the wait staff was very attentive. The restaurant is very clean and well run. The music is not overwhelming and the decor is very attractive. Our first experience was unfortunately terrible. I've heard great things, so we decided to order take out on our way home. I ordered at 6:07pm and it said it would be ready at 6:30pm. I went in to pick up the order and there was no one at the front desk. It was insanely packed, so I figured everyone was busy. Finally someone came up to the front and I told them I had a pickup. They confirmed my order and said it wasn't ready yet. No worries. However, time kept going. 10 mins, 15, 25, 30... No one gave me any updates, no apology, etc. Just kept walking by. There were two others who joined waiting for pickup orders as well. No one even talked to them until probably 10 mins after they arrived. One lady commented that they must've given our food away. I didn't walk out with my order until 7:05. 35 minutes after my expected pickup time. Food was cold and was not worth $50. If it's going to take an hour to make food, that's fine, but make sure that's what the estimated pick up time is. My husband and 2 year old were waiting in the car and I, being pregnant, was standing inside with no space to move or a seat to sit down for over a half hour. read more

A happy stop on our way home. Welcomed and seated quickly for Sunday lunch. We were able to order shortly after looking over the menu and our entrees arrived before we finished the basket of chips. Everything was tasty. My daughter and I usually share a dinner size entree, but ordered separate lunches. While we both enjoyed our lunch choices, I found mine more than I could eat. I have been here many times, and love their margaritas!! Though most recently I met friends for lunch. I order the shrimp chimichanga with rice instead of beans. We also ordered the cheese sauce and guacamole, in addition to the salsa they give you when you're seated. Everything was delicious, as per usual. I think I know why people were raving about this place, because it was the only good Mexican restaurant in the area. This was walking distance from the hotel so that was convenient. It wasn't that busy around 7:30pm on a Wednesday. The menu had a variety of food along with their descriptions. I wanted to eat light and ordered the Locos Tacos ($7.99). I got both pollo asada and carne asada for the choice of meat. The chips and salsa were as good as chips and salsa went. The salsa was not spicy but the flavor was good with the tortilla chips. The Locos Tacos was only two tacos that were small. The carne asada was good and same with the pollo asada. I was still hungry afterwards but just ate some more chips and salsa. We were back in the area and I'm always down for Mexican! We arrived at about 3:30 on a Sunday afternoon. There were a few tables occupied with people finishing up a late lunch. We opted to sit in the tiny bar area. This was our second visit as we'd come through in September and ate here then. The first time I had Chicken Fajitas and hubby had the Diablo Burrito with Chicken. This time I opted for the Verde Enchiladas and hubby had a repeat of the Diablo Burrito. My enchiladas were very good I really like their Verde kinda wishing I'd got a side to bring home with my left overs the chicken has nice flavor and is moist. Hubby liked the smoky flavor in the Diablo sauce and the chicken. He has enough left overs for at least two more meals. The service was top notch, prompt and friendly. We were visiting Batesville this past week and decided to eat dinner at The Toros. What a great decision! Best Mexican food I have had since moving from L. A. ! The service was wonderful and the restaurant was very clean. Such a great experience. If you are considering going there do yourself a favor and go! They have a very talented chef for sure! The Toros has gone downhill and cutting corners. Basket of broken chips slammed on the table. Entree served with barely a half scoop of guacamole. Frozen margarita with an unbreakable iceball larger than a golf ball laying in the bottom visible half way through the drink. The waiter did nit check for drink refills. Cashier decided he didn't understand my complaints and called a female who also couldn't understand English. They both have waited and cashed me out previously with acceptable language skills. My family comes here less and less and now my dining will be at other Mexican restuarants who care about quality and service. I'm visiting Milan from Brooklyn to hang out with my family. I love Mexican and they suggested we try The Toros. It was really great. The prices are amazing, especially considering how large the large margaritas are. I got the fiesta taco salad and I loved it! I really liked the way the lettuce was shredded and the chicken was sautéed perfectly. The guacamole was also amazing. The only thing that wasn't that great was the steak quesadilla my uncle got. It certainly wasn't bad, but the sauce was runny and he would have liked it grilled. Certainly look forward to coming back :) Also we had two 18-month-olds with us and they were really accommodating. I have ordered meals that include "steak" all three times and it was inedible due to how salty it is, i love salty food but this is overwhelming in salt. It could honestly be rotting and you wouldn't know for the salt amount. Wife and kids always get chicken and it wasn't like this, it wasn't great either but not a salt lick. Mediocre food at best, service is generally bad. I really needed this place to be good because it's all we have for Mexican food... people seem to enjoy it because it's always full, so not sure if the locals ever had good Mexican food or it's the only option within 30 minutes read more

The food was standard, I got a combo and both the burrito and the chile were decent. the re-fried beans and rice were fine and the gauc needed a little more seasoning but it tasted fresh. In spite of the bad reviews, we decided to give The Toros a try. We were tired after a VERY long day, we hungry, and wanted to try something convenient, so we dropped in. We were very pleasantly surprised! My wife had fish tacos, and proclaimed them among the best she's ever had. I had the Fiesta Nachos, and, my, oh my, they were awesome. Very generous serving of steak, chicken, and a LOT of shrimp. For 10 bucks, give or take a few cents, these nachos were a bargain!! The service was just a touch slow, but it WAS 6PM on a Saturday night and they were absolutely slammed, so I'll give 'em a bit of a pass on that. All in all, a VERY positive experience. The food is super authentic, served quickly and hot. My personal favorite is the chicken and cheese quesadilla with a side of beans. The decor of the restaurant is festive and you wont find a better margarita in Indiana. The owners personally come to your table and engage the customers. They remember your name and your favorite order. They do fun things for birthday guests as well. Chips and salsa are provided when seated---the salsa is homemade and FANTASTIC! The restaurant is super clean. The staff try to reduce the wait time to be seated. Toro's is the most popular restaurant in town (including surrounding areas).
