This was our home away from home for Hubbers' weeklong 50th birthday celebration. Party of 6, we were welcomed by warm greetings immediately at our arrival, so we were off to a good start. Those three beautiful waterfall pillars at entry sure caught our attention: they were almost majestic. Checking in, however, felt like forever. We were helped by Blanca who wasn't as enthusiastic as everyone else was. She was also inefficient with the process (she asked for our passports and signatures one at a time when she could have just asked for all of them all at once.) She took awhile exchanging currencies as well. Off to a slow start and I felt we needlessly wasted time, but that's the only (really insignificant snag) we hit. The rest of our stay was uneventful. Guillermina, our daily cleaning lady did her job very well. Our suite was always spotless and replaced all used towels and sheets as needed and when requested. There's a schedule of daily activities (for both small and big kids alike) and the Joy Squad (shout out to Nadia and Maria!) are fantastic at their jobs. They really know how to entertain their guests! The food at Bakal is above average, but my favorite is their breakfast buffet on Sundays which included menudo and birria soups. Bartenders at the pool were incredibly friendly and were good at reminding everyone of their 2-for-1 cocktails during Happy Hour. If the beach is your thing, it's (literally!) steps away from the pool. There are lounge chairs and shade aplenty. Showers and rinsing stations also provided. If you don't feel like going out for essentials, they do have a shop for bare necessities at hotel pricing. You are, after all, paying for convenience, so... but if you don't mind a little walk, Oxxo is across the street. There is a souvenir shop (also comes with hotel pricing) as well as a gym, so you can get your workout in if that's your thing. They have all the information you need if you wanna do the tourist thing. Need a cab ride? They'll call one for you and provide you the proper pricing so you don't get scammed. They even annotate the cab's vehicle number for safety precautions, I'm assuming. Want a tour?! Tons to choose from (pirate ship, city tour, adventure tour, etc.) Room service? No problem. Need a COVID-19 test day before your flight? That's onsite as well. But the best place here is the view. It was like staring at a postcard every time we stepped out to the balcony. It was an amazing and relaxing week, and Mayan Palace certainly helped elevate the experience. Hubbers was beyond happy celebrating the way he did. They will certainly be my go-to for accommodations the next time we come through again. read more

We came here and the studio we got had broken tv. We had to call to replace it. We asked front desk to upgrade our room and didn't allow it. There's only one outlet in the bathroom available to use for plug in to charge devices; we had unplug the lights to use outlets. We (my husband, our son, and I) had been to Puerto Vallarta before and previously stayed at Sea Garden. We enjoyed it very much and decided to return. I made a seven-day reservation, but later I was offered an upgrade to a two-room suite so our son could have his own space. Because of the new reservation, we had to change our flight and extend the trip to eight days. I've never written a review before, but this experience was so bad that I feel I should share it. Our stay at Mayan Palace Puerto Vallarta was not only a waste of money, but also very frustrating because of how we were treated. When we checked in, the room was very disappointing -- nothing like what we requested. It faced a patio and a busy walkway, so it was constantly noisy. It did not face the ocean and was not on a top floor as we had asked. The room was old, outdated, and had an unpleasant smell. As soon as we saw the room, I went back to the front desk and asked to speak with a manager. I spent more than two hours trying to get the room changed. We even offered to pay extra, but we were told there were no rooms available anywhere. Nothing was done to help us. The staff were very pushy and often rude, especially when trying to sell us a timeshare. Customer service overall was a waste of time and not helpful. Housekeeping was also poor. The room was not cleaned properly and the sheets were not changed regularly. After a couple of days, we noticed the sheets, shower, and floors had not been cleaned, and I had to call the front desk at night just to get the sheets changed. The floors were rarely cleaned unless we specifically asked. We also had a serious insect problem. We were bitten repeatedly at night while in bed. We called the front desk and they fumigated the room and told us not to open the windows. My husband and I kept getting bites, and staff told us to go to a pharmacy to buy medication, which did not help. Our son had no bites. Once we returned home, the biting completely stopped. After researching, I believe it was bed bugs, and I reported this to the manager. Another inconvenience is that this hotel has no restaurants or pool of its own -- you must walk outside to other areas of the resort. You are not allowed to use every pool in the resort, which was very disappointing. There is a grocery store in the plaza, but the prices are extremely high. The food at the resort restaurants is also overpriced for the quality and portions offered. Overall, this was a very unpleasant experience, and I would not recommend staying there. read more

The only downside was that the rooms at the Mayan Palace could use some updates considering the price point. Mayan Palace - Mayan Palace Puerto Vallarta Mexico, Jalisco with Vidante - Resorts Near Me - Puerto Vallarta, JAL

Mayan Palace occupies an narrow slice of land 120 yards wide by 330 yards deep. In that slice you have the main 6-story building fronting the property, with a secondary building along one outer edge that contains additional rooms plus a restaurant (Baku), a fitness center, and a few shops that no one ever seems to be in. There is a large wading pool with numerous chaise lounges and moveable sun umbrellas. The beach consists of a fine sand populated by fixed reed umbrellas and more seating, while the swimming area is cordoned off about 30 yards from shore. After spending last week at the Vidanta Grand Luxxe sister resort just to the north, Mayan Palace is much more compact, much less ostentatious, and much less expensive. However, our studio room is certainly adequate for a week, with two small flat screen TVs, a den with two uncomfortable couches adjoining a kitchen table with room for 4, a small fridge, microwave and stove, two separate sink areas and a small shower. If you're just looking for a nice place to stay and want to prepare your own meals or eat off-property, then MP is worth a look. We have encountered several issues, however. The main building shows its age in places. There are two small elevators rated to carry 10 people each, but it is very crowded with 6 in there. The wi-fi signal is moderately strong and is accessible throughout the property, but packets are frequently lost or the connection drops, forcing you to turn wi-fi off and on to re-connect. In addition, your connection automatically drops if you lock your phone or you don't use the Internet for a few minutes. Very frustrating. Our king-size bed is really two doubles pushed together, with an obvious ridge in the middle. Our shower head is coming out of the wall. While it appears you can adjust the temperature in your room, it always returns to the same set point (we finally just turned it off in the middle of the day so it wasn't a freezer box when we returned). On the plus side, staff have been consistently pleasant and helpful. Breakfast at Baku is huge and reasonably priced (at least relative to Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta) -- the $235 MEX continental breakfast is good for 2, with a huge plate of 5 types of sliced fruit and 4 sweet rolls. The pool area is pleasant and the beach area is attractive. There's a nice restaurant across the street, with many more surrounding the marina a short walk away. And of course, the weather is simply superb! read more

I just spent a week here as a solo traveler and I would suggest the name Mayan Prison. The place got off to a very rocky start with me as I arrived very early at 1130am and was not given access to my room until almost 6 PM. I am not sure if this was a housekeeping issue or logistics issue or some weird process they have as the room I was finally given seemed like it had been open all day. PROS - great daily housekeeping service. They are on it! - nice towels - helpful bell team - great cozy bed - decent balcony (but they placed the railing at a weird height so can't see everything when you sit!) - easy walk to Marina restaurants and shops - wristband makes it easy to enter your room and worked flawlessly CONS - only one way of getting to your guest room or to the pool or beach or into the building. Big pet peeve. - the staff does a creepy hand-on-my-heart gesture when you walk by. It happens super randomly but made me uncomfortable - no guests allowed or more work than it's worth - adjoining door I had made my neighbors LOUD. I think this checked in and out 4 times during my stay and every time was noisy - Friday was super loud even above neighbors dragging furniture - beach area is not well kept and not great service. Often did not see anyone for two hours. They also lack chairs and instead have a strange never used volleyball court. 30 more chairs would be way better. - I had a standard room and only 2 outlets in this room. I had to unplug the TV to make coffee - I understand this is Mexico but no smart TVs and only about 4 channels in English - they have a pool with a swim up bar, but the water was freezing here in January. Can't enjoy a cold beer if the pool is even colder. - the staff is definitely tip focused and I watched several times them chasing people down to sign tip checks including myself and when I was only using the restroom. - Slow internet. Oddly works the fastest on the beach - I was looking forward to evening cocktails at the Sunset bar but very strange layout. No staff and zero bar chairs. They also have weird shallow couches that can't relax into, and outlet plugs that don't work. I used my guest room balcony instead Overall the place needs a-lot of TLC. It has some charms to it but overall I found it very hard to relax. I am not their target market, but this place lacks essentials for me. read more

Horrible experience at Mayan Palace - avoid at all costs! I stayed at the Mayan Palace for a week with my family and it was the worst vacation ever. The resort is a scam and a rip-off. They charge you hidden fees, they don't clean the rooms properly, they don't let you use all the amenities, and they treat you like prisoners. Here are some of the issues we faced during our stay: We had to pay a resort fee of $550 within days of reservation, which was not disclosed when we booked. They also put a $1000 hold on our credit card upon check-in and charged us 1000 pesos for additional guests who arrived earlier. When we checked out, they tried to charge us the resort fee again and refused to refund the 1000 pesos. We had to argue with them for a long time to get our money back. We found a live cockroach in the bathroom and ants on the kitchen counter and cabinets. We reported this and asked to be moved to another room, but they said there were no other rooms available. They fumigated our rooms without telling us what chemicals they used and without giving us an alternative place to stay. We asked for the list of chemicals, but they could not produce it. We were worried about our health and safety. The rooms were old and dirty. The decorative cushions had a disgusting musty smell, the curtains had mold stains, the faucet handle broke due to corrosion, and there was a continuous rattling in the ceiling when the air conditioner was running. The phone did not work either, we found out that the wires were hanging out of the wall. They advertise Vidanta World as a whole resort, but they do not allow you to use all the facilities. We went to a pool and tried to buy a drink at the bar, but they said they could not serve us because we were not staying at that section of the resort. We had to go to another pool, which was crowded and noisy. They also reserved all the best spots for "Vidanta The Estates" guests, who had their own pool under maintenance. We felt discriminated and unwelcome. The pool was also dangerous. I touched one of the underwater lights and it popped out of the wall. I could have been electrocuted or injured by the sharp edges. They have shuttle service to get you around the property, but it is very slow and unreliable. We had to wait for a long time to get a ride or walk in the heat. They stored our luggage after checkout, but they did not let us leave until almost 2 pm. They said they did not have personnel available to retrieve our luggage because check-ins took priority, even though check-in time was 5 pm. They also said that Uber was not allowed on the property and that we had to wait for their taxi service, which was more expensive. We asked to speak with a supervisor, but they said they were all busy. We almost missed our flight because of their incompetence. This resort is a nightmare, and I would not recommend it to anyone. Having stayed here before, about 10+ years ago and having stayed at numerous other Vidanta properties I knew what to expect as to the quality of the resort. Again, I am pleased with the resort overall. 1. In the Marina area. Bus currently costs 10 pesos/50 cents into town/Malecon/Romantic Zone. Bus stop is in front of resort. 2 Fair wifi in only the lobby. Not having wifi in the rooms is a major disappointment! 3. The onsite restaurant offers a buffet breakfast that is good however dinner is just ok and nothing great. They offer two menus. One Italian and one Mexican. They offer an inexpensive meal plan. You have to ask the concierge about it. 4. Signs state you can't save beach chairs or cabanas. Items will be removed if you aren't there. 5th day at the beach where all the cabanas were saved by 6:30am and NOBODY has been to them and it is now NOON. Their stuff is still there. This must be one of the oldest Mayan Palace resorts in Mexico. It's old, but the location is nice and the staff were all friendly and helpful. There's an OXXO & liquor store right across the street and the marina with tons of restaurants, shops and massage spas within a one block walk. The bus picks up right out front for a $.50 /$10 peso ride to downtown...which takes about 25 minutes. The food at the resort is good, but prices across the street are much better. read more

First of all, I hate giving bad reviews because I understand most everyone likes to aim for excellence in the hospitality industry. However, our experience at Mayan Palace in Puerto Vallarta did not earn/meet much in the way of positive experiences. Don't. Do not stay at the Mayan Palace in Puerto Vallarta by Vidanta.com. I DO NOT recommend you waste your money here! Do not be pulled in by positive reviews because they were probably written by hotel/resort employees. You'd be better off putting a couple thousand US dollars in a pile and just setting it on fire to roast marshmallows. This review is a bit long, but I have a lot to complain about. Hopefully it won't be pulled down before a few people are able to read through it. First of all, we reserved our vacation through travelzoo.com. They apparently have partnered with resorts that sell timeshares and that's what you get exposed to when you travel with travelzoo.com vacation packages. Not recommended. It infuriating to say the least. Our 'grand deluxe' room was ridiculously small and in (46 year old) disrepair, nested on the outside edge of a brand new gorgeous resort. Free wifi, only when it's available, a couple of hours a day. The 'queen' sized beds are barely bigger than a U.S. single twin sized bed but you do get two of them. The bathtub drains very slowly. We had to unplug the bedside lamp and the alarm clock to plug in our phones. We had to unplug the refrigerator to plug in the coffee pot. There are no other outlets. A bottle of water costs extra to make your morning in-room coffee. The coffee also costs extra! The use of the coffee pot probably also costs extra!! There is a tax or surcharge on literally everything you use in your room. Daily. Disgusting We did complain at the front desk and asked for an upgrade, even offered to pay for an upgrade, but they claimed that they are overbooked for "marketing week", so that was an impossibility. Management does not care that you may experience inconveniences. This place also nickels and dimes you into bankruptcy. We were forced to sit through a four and a half hour "60 minute" sales pitch for time share plots to the resort, so that we could qualify for the 'free breakfast'. My time is worth more than that, a "free meal"! By the way, just as a warning, if you say "no" to the $160,000 Vidanta resorts sales pitch, your services and access to amenities, drops to practically zero. And they do it to you on your very first day here. If you put it off until your last day of you're stay, you are badgered and hounded and harassed multiple times daily or until you sit through the (60 minute 4-5 hour) sales pitch. The restaurants do serve amazing food but you'd be better off eating at four star $$$$ restaurants at home because they're just as expensive and better portions. Not worth it! The resort is gigantic, but as a guest of the Mayan Palace you are only allowed to use the amenities for the Mayan Palace specifically or you will be kicked out by security and escorted through the property like a criminal. They will provide you with a free shuttle from the airport to the resort, but then you have to figure out your own way of getting back to the airport. Taxis are hideously expensive here and inconsistent in pricing. $60 USD one way, $40USD to get back to your original destination. You have the ability to walk around the resort without using any cash, because you can just charge everything to your room. However, there is a fee for this and final checkout is going to be expensive. Expect sticker shock. Very expensive ! There is a daily surcharge, just to be present on the resort, even if you don't use any of the amenities, which most have extra costs on top of everything else. I am a global traveler, I'm used to certain conditions and pricing. However, at the Mayan Palace they are deplorable. I would honestly rather stay at Motel 6 in North Platte, Nebraska during a blizzard or just about any other hotel resort available in Puerto Vallarta, where guests are treated much better and the rooms come with better quality of everything, than stay at the Mayan Palace in Puerto Vallarta. Buyer beware, to those whom go through travelzoo.com, or if you spend your money staying at the Mayan Palace in Puerto Vallarta. Please do yourself a favor and stay anywhere else. read more

The resort is across from marina and has a private beach access with cabanas that are free to use with a sand volleyball court near the beach. There is a pool bar and another towards back of property by the beach that was always empty every time we walked towards the back. Resort is super clean and room service was awesome. Resort has a older crowd of 50+ of age. If you see any younger people, it's probably one of the guest granddaughter/grandson. There is no washer/dryer inside suites. They charge about $7 for 1 wash & 1 dry cycle but you have to get a laundry card from concierge and leave a deposit of 150 pesos. (About $8) and they will credit that when you return the laundry card. This was an inconvenience. The property accepts no cash at bar or restaurant, they require a min.deposit of $300 in a major credit card and you provide your room # for purchases. To exchange dollars for pesos was a long process that we dreaded to go through when we ran out of dollars. Front desk staff are the slowest moving people I have ever seen working. The bellman are very friendly and they recommended the best authentic mexican food. Dont eat across from marina. That area is very americanized and their food is not all that good. About a 25 min cab ride to Melacon and downtown. The checkout was a hassle, we did it the night before for a "smooth checkout " as our reminder check out paper stated. This took about 1 hr and 20 min. We had 3 separate charge accounts and moved slower than a sloth as they tried to get our accounts closed. My family and I wouldn't return because it was more for a retirement crowd and we're no where near retirement age. read more

We also came to speak with the person in charge and she was very defensive. They even sent security when we should be afraid of them. We are in Mexico alone and something could happen to us. We stayed here for a week and a half. The minute we arrived I was overwhelmed how beautiful everything was and just the grand size of this place! I felt like we were transported to another world in another century. You really feel like you are at the "Mayan palace". We checked in with ease and arrived to our room- it was huge and clean and very modern. The only downside was out view, which was partially of the gardens and partially the ocean. You have to take a shuttle to get around, because everything is so spread out. Your other option is walking on the paths that connect everything, which I loved because you feel like you are in the middle of some tropical jungle. The pools are huge and very nice. The whole property is unreal.. The restaurants (there's like 10) have every cuisine possible. The beach is nice as well. I loved everything about this place.. We booked a room in other hotel (Ocean Breeze) but when we got there, we found out that it was closed so I called the number I had and they told me that they were closed due to renovations but that we got a room in a better hotel, the Mayan Palace. After we figured out how to get there, at 4pm after a long trip and not having had lunch , we had to go to other hotel - the Grand Bliss - to do the check-in. After checking-in we were told to wait for a person that was going to give us the welcome and our bracelets. We waited for about 15 minutes and then a lady came, and gave us a brochure with some info about the resort and she immediately tried to sign us up for a one hour talk about the membership options of the resort. We politely declined since we don't live in Mexico and we don't go to Puerto Vallarta as often to consider paying for a membership. She insisted and said that we could be placed in an even better hotel - the Grand Mayan - if we assisted, but we declined again for the reasons mentioned before. She asked us to wait again for other 5 minutes and she came back with our bracelets and she left. From that moment, we really were on our own. No one gave us information of how to get to our room, check-out time, etc. So we started asking how to get to the Mayan Palace. We had to walk 5 minutes and when we got there it was not clear where our room was, so we had to wander for a moment until we saw a cleaning lady, asked her and she led us there. At the instant we opened the door, the smell of mold was incredibly stunning. That was the only thing I could smell for the next two days. Everything in the room smelled to mold and the furniture and sheets felt like they were wet. It made sense because the view we had was of the trees that were planted right outside of the balcony and there was no sunlight at all coming in, I immediately called the reception and they said they were going to send somebody in 10 minutes. I waited for 30 minutes and no one came, so I went to the reception and asked again and they said they were going to put in another request. I had to wait for one more hour until somebody came and their solution was to put one of those small things that are supposed to catch humidity (WHAT KIND OF GENIUSES ARE THEY?) I asked to be moved to other room but they just kept me bouncing between the receptionist, the customer service rep and sales. Everyone kept saying that they didn't have the permission to do so. I even walked to the place I did the check-in and talked to the man that helped us and he said that he couldn't help me and he also mentioned that the lady that gave us the bracelets said that we had refused to be upgraded to the Grand Mayan. So it all made sense at that moment, everything went to hell after we refused to go to their talk. I managed to talk to somebody from the sales team and I told them I NEEDED another room and I was willing to pay more if necessary, but he said that I couldn't be moved because I was not a member (SERIOUSLY?!) That happened in the first 3 hours of my stay there. So you can imagine how I felt the next 2 days. I mean, if you're in the business of tourism, you should make sure that the people that stay with you, no matter if they're members of the resort or not, have a great time. Also, the idea of going to beach is to feel some breeze and get some sunlight, not to be thrown in a moldy stinky hole. I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody, just go find a nice place where people will really care about you. read more

I love this resort! Everyone that works their is extremely helpful and kind. I had a issue with my room - I needed 2 beds and they put me in a room with 1 - and they fixed it very quickly. We had a great stay at the Mayan Palace. All of the staff was outrageously friendly and kind. The only part that sucks for everyone is the sales pitch! We stayed for a week and loved the poolside bar, 2 for 1 from 11-3! They have water aerobics each day and plenty of games by the pool. It was definitely an older crowd which we appreciated! We stayed at The Westin but took advantage of the 2 for 1 meal deals at the Mayan Palace. Their off-peak buffet meals make vacationing here super affordable. I didn't know what to expect when we made reservations here. Reading everything online was helpful, but experiencing it first-hand was a little different. I was prepared for it, though, so do your research online before you go! So when we got out of the taxi, the bellman took our luggage and said to give them a call when we get up to our room and they'll deliver it. That was a bit unexpected, but really nice. Check-in was ok, but when they made us go talk to the timeshare people, it took FOREVER. I was hesitant to agree to it because I had my itinerary for the week already set. I was so hesitant, but they kept trying to throw in different incentives. In the end, I've decided to go with it because of their incentives, plus, I had reservations for the dolphin swim up in Nuevo Vallarta, which was like 5 minutes from the property, so I figured I'd get a free ride to/from Nuevo Vallarta, since they were giving us the taxi fare to/from Marina Vallarta. The funny thing about the timeshare stuff was while we were checking in, they said they were cleaning our room and it wouldn't be ready for an hour, and to check back then. But we got out of the timeshare stuff before that hour was up, and so they ended up switching rooms on us. Not sure why, but we finally got up to our room about an hour and a half after we've gotten there. The room itself was pretty nice. Really basic that there isn't a mini-fridge or anything in the room. 2 full beds; they said they can push the 2 fulls together to make a king. The property was very well-kept! Cleaning people all the time, and you can see them cleaning the pond/pool in the morning. The gym was really nice too. More people in the morning, but later on in the day, it's so empty that you'd most likely be the only one in there. The housemaids are SOOO attentive somehow! Whenever we left, even for an hour to go to the pool, they'd come in and tidy up our room, and make the bed and put Hershey's Kisses on the bed. Super crazy how they know we're always out. It's not at specific times of the day either, just any time. There's also a strip of beach on their property, and it was pretty nice. There are some solicitors that'd come over and ask if you want to do some sort of tour, but other than that, it's pretty nice. I picked this location versus Nuevo Vallarta because it's closer to town, and I was doing some tours with Vallarta Adventures that met up at Maritime Terminal, but I'm so glad we did! The Marina area had so many restaurants, and it was within 5 minutes walking distance, so it was so easy to have access to food! I didn't know how to find a way into the Marina, I just stumbled upon the entrance through the alley. It's just a block down from the Mayan Palace, to your right. All in all, the staff is really awesome and nice, and try to do anything they can to help you out, even if there's somewhat of a language barrier. So if you need something, just ask! I would definitely stay here again if I came back to Puerto Vallarta! Close to the Marina area, close enough to downtown where the taxi ride wouldn't cost so much, close to Maritime Terminal. I really enjoyed my stay! The staff definitely made all the difference here! Oh, Wi-Fi is NOT free, it costs a lot, so we didn't get Wi-Fi at all. We just used Wi-Fi at the restaurants when we eat there. There's also complimentary Wi-Fi if you get something at the restaurant on their property, by the beach. Tip: Check the bill they give to you beforehand, and make sure you check out the night before. There's a donation charge on there, and if you forget to mention it, they'll charge you for it (unless you want to donate), as well as a bottled water charge (the bottled water that they have in the bathroom). read more

We have been to Puerto Vallarta Mexico 5 times for 2-3 weeks each time. PV is safe, clean, friendly, and has great restaurants. We use timeshare through RCI to stay in PV or use Airbnb. 2nd visit to Mayan Palace. Our daughter and 2 grandchildren, ages 1 and 3 went with us this year. The Mayan Palace in the marina section of Puerto Vallarta is nice. It was more lively and fun 2 years ago. The Joy Squad are the staff that run in activities. They did not engage the patrons well. The maid service was good. Our 1 bedroom unit had a king size bed and two couches in the living room that had trundle beds. It is more expensive to use Mayan Palace than other places. While resorts charge a $30 fee for a week, the Vidanta company charge a $400 in US currency for the week, $200 of which you can use for food and drinks in their restaurant. The food was good. The pool was cold, especially in the evening. They need to turn up the heat in the pool to make it comfortable. We often did activities during the day in and around town, returning in the early evening for a dip in the pool with the grandchildren. The pool was chilly despite the weather being warm. read more

Quaint and cozy really describe this hotel. Tucked away into the 'old town' area, the Mayan is located right next to the marina and five minutes from the boardwalk. It's family friendly and not far from WalMart and Starbucks. There are two small hotel buildings, two pools, a gym, and a private beach. The suites are equipped with a small kitchenette including: pots and pans, a microwave, a stove, coffee maker, toaster, blender, and silverware. This really came in handy gave me a chance to indulge in some fresh market finds when relaxing in the hotel room, and save some cash instead of dining out for every meal. All staff, from the concierge to the cleaning people, were soooo helpful and kind. Everyone is willing to offer advice and make recommendations. The Mayan does have another location in Riviera Nayarit---which they will probably ask to you visit for a four hour presentation so you can buy their time share. You can book at this location too. It's exceptionally larger and more grandiose. So much so, that you need to take a little golf cart shuttle to get from the initial lobby to you hotel room or pool. The only downsides were that the hotel's restaurants were pretty expensive, even with the buy one get one deals. But it didn't really matter cause there's a ton of good and cheap restaurants within walking distance. Also, the beds weren't very comfortable. They were actually pretty hard and the sheets were kinda corse. All things easily overlooked! All in all, we had an excellent stay here. read more

Our check in was horrible. The woman did not seem to know what she was doing and did not explain what I was signing for. I had to ask for clarification multiple times. She did not tell uswhich building our room was in, or give us a map of the property. She then referred us to the "hostess," which, as an owner, I know is not a hostess, but a sales person and property pusher. My husband turned her down several times because he knows that the talks stress me out and are never the short length stated. She then asked me how old I was, and if my parents were the owners. I literally did not know what to say. I was quite offended by this and gawked at her, like I couldn't believe she just said that. I would think that after paying a small fortune for ownership, the "hostess" would know who I am. Not only did she not apologize, but she said, "I'm just doing my job." So unprofessional. The second bedroom had a leak in the closet ceiling which kept my friends up all night, then two days later the main toilet started leaking. The kitchen towels had holes in them. On a positive note, the maids are wonderful and friendly! I was happy to leave my tip every day for their attention to cleaning and making up our beds. The pool is beautiful, but the lounge chairs don't allow you to sit up. The beach is also beautiful with plenty of seating. Again, the lounge chairs are really only for laying on, not for sitting. As a reader, the position was quite annoying. The resort was across the street from an OXXO, our equivalent of a mini mart, so that was nice. We stopped there for various sundries and lots of snacks. All in all, our stay was not super awesome, and we will certainly not be returning. read more

I will never go back there again. I was so excited to bring our friends and we had so many negative issues with this place. Nothing that was told or shown to us at the timeshare presentation when we unfortunately bought happend. Our rooms were horrible. We all had a view of construction zone where people working from 5am to 11pm. All the plunge pools were disfiguring. I would not even use it to wash my feet. We requested to be moved but no one cares. They make you think they do but they don't. Our check it took 3 hours. So getting our rooms only made it worst. The resort is huge and all the employees seems dazed and have no since of direction. The pools are dirty and God forbid you go into an area ..you will get kicked. The rooms are dated. I just didn't t see how anyone would pay to stay here. I'm ready to sell our share, and not bother with this again. Just do your research and go elsewhere. I would give it negative stars if I could. Horrible place. Look at the picture of the plunge pool and imagine yourself in there. Disgusting!!! read more

I read a lot of reviews for this place after we made the reservations so was kind of nervous about whether or not this would be a decent place. I should quantify this with the fact that I am a Mayan Palace owner which means that according to the other reviews that gives me a little preferential status right off the bat. Check in kind of left at a nasty taste in my mouth because it was all about money and all the potential fees that we were going to have to pay if we did this or that. It was overwhelming. I have to admit that no one begged us to go to an upgrade timeshare meeting though. The resort itself is on a much smaller scale than the other more luxurious timeshares for Mayan or even in Mexico. However, after getting past that initial shock we had an absolutely lovely time. The staff was wonderful, our view was spectacular to say the least, the food and drinks at the swimming pool were great . My two young adult children and my guy and I were there for 6 days and in that entire time having drinks by the pool, tasty nachos, and pretty much anything we wanted the entire bill was just over $200. Stay away from the hotel restaurant though because it is much pricier than a five-minute walk away into the little Marina. The marina had lots and lots of other options like live music, massages, dune buggy rental, and even lovely excursions. We found the marina because some little local boy pointed through an alley for us. It's kind of hidden but once you find it - perfecto! So of course we passed it on to all the other Americans we ran into. Our average breakfast meal at the marina was about 4 American dollars. And if safety is a concern we felt safer here than many places even in the United States. I'm giving it a three-star however because although our room was great and had a spectacular View, the beds were so unbelievably uncomfortable that a broken back could not feel any worse. Unfortunately that really takes away from a vacation when you are in Mortal pain every morning when you get up. Review I wrote at the front desk also said as such. So if you can deal with that then please do stay here. Oh and we especially appreciated the Bell hops who remembered our names, were so friendly and were so quick at handling our ever need, getting taxis, getting us to the right place and translating for us. Close to shopping, golf course, historical places, activities and plenty of restaurants that's walking distance 5 to 10 minutes . The hotel room is very clean and spacious with modern amenities . Worst experience of my life. Dont waste your time getting suckered into their timeshare presentation. You will waste a whole day of vacation going thru 10 different salesman trying to sell you a timeshare after declining to offers. The place sucks, you cant get around the place without golf carts and most of the time you have to wait. The customer service there is the most horrible experience I've ever had in Mexico. Excellent hotel, the people were very friendly and the hotel was nice. The location is good but if someone wants to be closer to the malecón then it's a bit far. The pools were awesome and the beach was incredible. The rooms were excellent and both views were excellent. This was my first experience with vidanta and I enjoyed it. I do recommend them to give better incentives to sit through a timeshare presentation. Other resorts offer better ones. Sitting through a presentation is a hassle and it always takes more than 90 minutes. The main reason why I give this awesome hotel four stars is because there was no free internet in the rooms. That reason alone made my experience not so enjoyable. Also the tv channels were not good either because the antennae didn't give a clear view. Overall, beautiful resort and the service and people was excellent! read more

This place is clean, and is safe to stay, other than that it does not deliver a resort quality stay. I chose Mayan Palace thru my timeshare, I was expecting to feel as I was at a resort, felt more like a hotel stay. The resort attitude I did not like, felt these guys either were new or just hate to work there. No discounts on our tours where offered, not even a resort tour. The beds, oh let me you just tell you, be ready for your back to be in pain, these beds are super hard to sleep on. The wifi sucks!!! They charged me $98 for me and my wife suppose to cover resort fees and wifi. Complete rip-off. The leave waters in your suite, but will charge you if you consume the water or coffee. The Mayan Palace in the Puerto Vallarta marina is part of the Vidanta family, which is huge in the Vallarta area. The largest resorts are in Nuevo, but this location is very nice, close to the marina. This resort is getting kinda old, but the rooms are still adequate. They charge a $252/week resort fee, but I still can't figure out what you get for that, other than internet. They have a very large, beautiful pool - BUT IT'S AN ICE BATH! It's January, with night temps at 55 degrees F, but this place is too cheap to heat the pool! All surrounding resorts have heated pools, but not Vidanta! No consideration for guest comfort at all! Even tho we enjoy the location, we will never return here, and will not recommend to travelers. Vidanta needs to try harder to make the guests comfortable and happy. WE ARE NOT HAPPY! read more

If your into getting bombarded by high pressure sales after being on an airplane for 8 hours then this place is for you. They do not like being told no that's for sure and if some lady from "corporate" states they are there to ensure we want to return. Tell them what i did. You are not off to a good start by doing this the minute i step into the hotel. i have not even seen my room and you try to pressure me to spend the first couple hours listening to a sales pitch. I didn't pay 2k in airfare and your fee's on top of fee's to come and listen to your sales. Beware of the onsite restaurants, they are expensive really not worth a damn. If your going to the plaza on the Marina get over to Victors. Best food for real reasonable and they treat you right. We won't be back to this place and i suggest you do a lot of research before you choose as well. read more

Check-in wasn't the best. They put an "authorization hold" for $500 on my card stating that it wouldn't be a pending charge. It did charge and cleared my account. Also, they charge your room for things you didn't use hoping you don't pay attention (i.e. Water, room service, etc.). Besides these issues the service was very good, food was excellent and all the prices for alcohol and food were very reasonable. Good experience. I would not recommend this place at all. Rooms and bathrooms are old and really need update. Shower door was not closing and they did not had time to come fix it during the 7 day I stayed there. Service is really bad. They charge $168 resort fee for internet and maid service but internet is not available in rooms and only available in lobby. What a joke. And resort fee for maid service...isn't that part of staying in hotel. Pool closes at 9pm and bar closes by then too. Seriously what is the point of going there for vacation. All they are worried abt is tips and selling timeshare. Save yourself frustration and find a different hotel read more

The beauty this resort has to boast about is disqualified by the attitude of their staff! They are on you like police; don't do this, can't so that's; watch your kids, on and on. A security guard made us pour out our drinks and wouldn't allow our small ice chest on the beach. Is'nt that part of why we bought a time share, to be able to take our food & drinks to the beach in order to save money on our vacation? That was the sales pitch. When we bought we were told all we would have to pay to enjoy our vacation is our maintenance fee. They have added cost upon cost. It's just not fun anymore. Buyer beware! Run while you can. read more
