The food and the service were very good. We were greeted at the door and seated promptly. The waitress was very nice and gave us time to check the menu as this was our first time there. The food came out as ordered and was good. The reasons for two stars is while we were dining the owner, I think he was, was sitting at a table near the register. He had a big pile of food order checks from the waitresses he was looking at and going over. He had a waitress standing there and questioning her. When we went to the register to pay, we were right next to them and could hear what was being said. He was questioning her on two different tickets. He was asking her about a customer wanting extra gravy. She told him the customer stated he wanted more gravy. He then rudely asked if she charged him. She answered yes and showed himself. Then he asked her another question, he got up to check us out, and you could tell she was uneasy and looking over the ticket he asked about. I thought this was very unprofessional in his part. We felt uncomfortable standing there and I know she felt the same. The second reason is the restrooms. What a mess. There needs to be some remodeling in the women's. A commode has been removed and a new one installed. The flooring where the old one was has the pipe filled, but the mess is not covered up. There is room for a small table or something, so maybe put one there. The floors and walls were dirty and dusty as well. You can see the cut through wall behind the new commode and where the old one was. My husband said the men's restroom was just as bad. read more

Worth the short drive off I-80 to get some good homemade food. I got the tex mex scramble with chorizo, potatoes and topped with fried eggs. The tastes and flavors were excellent. My friends got the stuffed croissant and burger. The stuffed croissant was basically a croissant with a bunch of eggs in the middle of it. It was very tasty and good. The burger was also huge and delicious. Portions are big and the service was spectacular. The decor is a little dated and traditional, but who cares when the food is so good. Just adds to the atmosphere of traditional American cooking. We will be back if we are passing through. read more

Clearly a local hotspot for breakfast! A busy parking lot and entrance is usually a good sign so we thought we'd check it out on our way through town. The George's skillet and classic eggs and hash browns were of delicious diner heaven. Great value- plentiful plates and old school diner prices. The only reason it's not a 5 star is the dated, unkempt atmosphere... they are obviously making bank so spend some $$ on updating your dining room. read more

This was a huge surprise in that not only was the food homemade, it was fresh and good. I had biscuits instead of toast (no problem with change orders) eggs and tender potatoes. Food came out hot and fast. Service was just as good as our breakfast. Our coffee cups did not go dry and the place was very clean. We have eaten here 4 or 5 times now and every time we have received excellent service by more then friendly staff. The personnel bend over backwards to make sure we are taken care of, filling our water glasses or coffee cups to serving our meals. The food has been excellent with more then ample portions, never having to wait more then a reasonable time for any Item. Our wait staff were friendly and at times humorous. Usually have a good experience at Mayberry. However, today was different. I ordered the house salad ($7.45), and asked to add sliced chicken breast. The salad was good, but only came with the equivalent of about 2-3 oz of sliced chicken breast. When I received the check, the upcharge for chicken was $5.95, which is quite excessive (especially when you can order a chicken sandwich or chicken breast dinner for $7.95, or a chicken Caesar salad for $8.95). While paying the bill at the counter I asked if the charge was correct. I was told it was. I feel the server should have alerted me to the significant upcharge. I asked why it was so costly compared to the Chicken Caesar salad, and was told 'because the house salad has cheese on it'. Hmmm. Doesn't seem quite right. I left quite frustrated, and won't be returning. read more

Usually a good place to eat. Food is normally really good.service is usually top notch. But we went there oct.3. got seated waited for 10 minutes a dropped of water. After 15-20 minutes another guy asked if we wanted coffee. All the meantime a table seated after us was already getting there food our waitress had not been to our table at all. Working in Elkhart and we came across this restaurant in a somewhat older "strip shopping plaza". Don't let the outside fool you, give this place a try if you are looking for some large portions of real home cooked food. I got the chicken finger dinner which came with 4 chicken fingers, salad or soup and two sides and dessert for $8.99. I got enough food for two people, and it was very good. The chicken fingers appeared to be two breasts, butterflied and lightly breaded to arrive at the 4 "fingers". I brought two home to show my wife and to eat for another meal. The sides and salad were fresh and good and I was so full I could not eat more than a couple of spoonfuls of the rice pudding, which was not firm enough for my taste. I get concerned about the slackness and sloppiness of people with the health and well being of their patrons. When I find a place that exceeds my expectations as this place, I am ecstatic. Hot Syrup and Flavored Creamers served to the table. Our coffee cups never ran dry. The owner was visible and stopped by our table for a quick chat. The condition of the furniture, equipment and the building was TOP Notch!! Clean and Classy as well as very Clean Restrooms!! and a Bowl of Chocolates at the Register to enjoy as paid our bill and walked out the door. My great aunt and I go here almost every week. We spent time going other places but have never felt well taken care of anywhere else. When you are seated at Mayberry, there is normally someone who brings you water immediately and basically beats you to the table. Coffee is followed immediately after and refills are numerous and prompt every time. The wait staff has always done an excellent job. Nice place for some hearty breakfast. I mainly come here for their pancakes because they make em big, nice & fluffy. Service is pretty decent and most waitresses are always checking to refill coffee. First, the service was fantastic. The best service from the "waiters" to the "busboys" I've seen in any restaurant. Drinks were always filled. The waitress admitted that we weren't her section up front and apologized if she forgot us. BTW, she never did and we never felt slighted. The busers had the tables cleared before the people that stood up had paid their bill. I had a breakfast skillet. It was great. It had more bacon than potatoes and eggs, and I love bacon. The only down side was my husband's brunch. He got the club sandwich and onion rings. The rings we're kinda greasy and I had more bacon in my skillet than he did in a blt.
