We hired Mayen Builders for a renovation of our kitchen, laundry room, and two bathrooms. To say we are thrilled with the results would be an understatement. We've done a lot of renovations in the past on our own and also with contractors. This is the first time we have ever had a positive experience with a contractor. Usually, renovations drag on for months or go way over budget, but our experience was the exact opposite. Mayen Builders managed to finish the entire project ahead of time and they were always transparent about any changes to our budget. Additionally, we always felt like they had our best interest at heart and quality was paramount. There were a number of occasions when they pointed out prior shoddy work and suggested corrections without being overly pushy. What really set them apart was their communication. They kept us updated every single step of the way, so we never had to guess what was happening next. Additionally, the crew was incredibly respectful of our home. They were meticulously clean, tidying up the workspace at the end of every day, which made living through a renovation much easier. I can't believe I haven't already left a five star review. It only came to mind because I was literally recommending the Mayen Builders to a neighbor, and I sent over the Yelp link. I chose the Mayen Builders because of the solid reviews, and I never looked back. We've used them on at least five projects over the past three years, the largest of which was getting our house repainted. I got a few quotes, and they were very reasonably priced. I also have to agree with other reviewers that their superpowers are communication and going above and beyond what you expect. We've had them install a new front door, do drywall work inside our house, stabilize our foundation, fix gutter work that other contractors actually botched in the first place, and a full repaint of our house, including extensive stucco work. They are friendly, extremely professional, they clearly take pride in their work, and I can't imagine using anyone else to do contracting on our home in the future. 10/10 would recommend! read more

We used Mayen Builders for some minor upgrades/remodeling to a bathroom, as well as some small touch up items elsewhere (e.g., drywall patch and paint). Hector was great to work with, and did great work. His particular superpower is communications - he communicates better than any other contractor I've worked with, including making sure that we know the impact of decisions we're making, we know the materials being used, etc. Hector also went above and beyond in a few ways on our job. As one example, we had arranged with Hector to pick up a new bathroom vanity and countertop from the warehouse. Hector picked it up, but then noticed some serious manufacturing defects that would have made the vanity not hold up long term. Instead of trying to hide the issue and take the path of least resistance, Hector actually went back to the wareouse and worked with them to ensure a new unit was provided. The two Hectors have been nothing short of amazing to work with. I don't even know where to begin! We've never done any major renovations to my home so the process in finding a contractor was nerve-racking. I reached out to three different contractors and out of the three, Mayen Builders provided us with the most reasonable quote. What I liked most about them also was that in their quoting, they broke down the price of every job we requested to get done (e.g., wall painting, refinish flooring, install new door, etc.) The other two contractors listed the jobs requested but didn't give us a break down in price, only a grand total. I'm really happy we went with them. Since I have so much to say about the Mayen Builders, I'll break down my review by skills and attributes that make them stand out from the rest. Communication- From the day we agreed to work together, communication has never been a problem. I work from home but have days that I have to go into the office. Hector (son) always let me know, the night before, what time they'd be arriving in the morning. There were also days I had to leave while they were working and he ALWAYS sent me a text to let me know they were leaving and locked all the doors. Throughout the project, always asked clarifying questions and ensured they understood what I meant. When a unexpectedly job needed to be done, they would check in first and would suggest some things that they thought would be best but never pushed me to go with their recommendation. Professionalism- Having people working in your home for over a week, you become comfortable having them around and vice versa but they always remained extremely professional. They always cleaned up at the end of the day. If I was at home working in an open-spaced area and they needed to talk, they would always ask if I had a minute to talk rather than immediately asking questions. Such polite guys! They take their work extremely seriously while valuing their clientele and it shows. They also practiced covid-19 safety precautions and always wore their mask while working. Craftsmanship- My house looks amazing (see pictures). We gave the entry, living room, and hallway a whole new makeover. We requested for the following jobs to be done: popcorn ceiling removal & smoother texture for ceiling, refinishing the original hardwood floors (Hector & Hector had two other guys do the floors and they did great!) , new wall color and new baseboards, replace existing sliding door to the backyard, color change of fireplace & install mantle, and turn existing French doors into one door. I barely even recognize my home anymore. It's such a bittersweet feeling because this is the house me and my brother grew up in. As much nostalgia and comfort this home brings me, it really needed a new look. Hector and his dad went above and beyond to make it look great. Not only does it look good, they executed the job while being very detail-oriented and got the job done in a timely manner. I could go on and on about these two but of all the things listed above, the best part about working with Hector and Hector was that they are overall really good and honest people. It was great getting to know the both of them during this project. We are forever grateful that we found them. Overall, the experience was 100/10. I have worked with Hectors for 2 projects in 2023 - converting a shed to an office and a full kitchen remodeling. Both projects were completed to spec, on time, within budget and exceed my expectations. From the quoting process to the completion, I can confident to say that the team members are very professional, thorough, and not pushy at all. The Hectors did a wonderful job! They replaced a bunch of siding with brown rot with some better siding, and did a really great job painting it (as well as some rotting window framing). I can hardly tell it's a different siding. They also replaced some rotting deck stairs as well and I really like how they fit it around the drain pipe. They kept it detached from the wall as well, which I had requested. Finally, they removed a bunch of rotting earthquake reinforcement, replaced some beams behind it, and secured everything really well with some metal plating and some sister pieces on the joists (due to some complications with weird beams). I really like how they outlined all of my options here with some of the weird construction and helped me make an informed choice. read more

What impressed me most about Hector, was that he did not just throw numbers at us like everyone else. He was the only one who took out his tape measure and actually took measurements and was able to give us an estimate in a day. Mayen Builders remodeled the entire interior of a home that had been a rental for 25 years. We remodeled it for our daughter and her family, and Hector and his son did an extremely excellent job. Not only did they knock out walls per engineering instructions, Hector improved on it. He created gorgeous floating shelves in the multi-purpose room that extended the entire width of the room. Not only were they beautiful, but so well constructed, you could dance on them. Hector takes pride in his work, and he is extremely detailed oriented so that there are no imperfections or bad construction.
