We went to try it out. First time eating there and will be the last. I ordered the flounder and when it came, it was two pieces that were so thin I felt like I was eating a cracker. I noticed the table next to me ordered the same and her fish was nice and thick. When I mentioned it to the waitress she stated due to the vendor that they gave two slices. I mentioned again it was the thinness of the fish not the amount again same excuse. When I went to pay the bill , the manager asked how did I like my meal. I gave him the same answer I gave to the w. He gave me the EXACT RESPONSE. I guess that must be their party line. It was interesting if they knew you received excellent food. Do you like to wait? Came in this morning for breakfast and had a 45 minute wait to be seated. When I finally got a table and ordered, I waited another 25 minutes to get 1 egg and 1 piece of toast. When I got my breakfast it was overcooked and cold. The egg was also rubbery. This business moved from their old location, tripling their seating, but still only had 2 people waiting tables and probably had not increased their back of the house staff because of how slow the orders were coming out. If a restaurant is going to serve more people, they need to have the wait staff to support the clients. read more

Enjoyed breakfast at Chew N Chat Cafe with my sister Saturday morning. We arrived around 11, not sure if they would still be serving breakfast. We were very happy to discover breakfast is available all day on Saturday. I had the Cafe' Big Breakfast - 2 Extra Large Eggs (over easy), link sausage, grits and a cup of coffee. The food wasn't fancy but the waitress was nice and attentive and the food came out hot just a few minutes after we placed our order. The space is open and very bright. Seeing the cooks and staff moving around gives the space a private party vibe. While I wish they had a little more down home character but the food was on point especially the grits. Was in the Rocky Mount area due to the unexpected passing of a family member. My best friend came from Greenville for brunch and found Chew 'N Chat on Yelp. Our time with one another and the staff was just what we needed. It gets pretty busy, but we were able to be seated and it immediately felt like home. Everyone tends to your needs, exhibiting great patience with explaining the dining options. Your food is cooked fresh in front of you like a fine dining venue. It's cozy so you can communicate with everyone in the room if you so choose. The food comes out quickly so prepare to be well fed. My meal was absolutely fulfilling. My only regret was not ordering the coffee, which is large and prepared just like I like it. There is such a strong sense of community here. Tips are shared. We were traveling I95 North and missed O My Lard in Elm City but found the Chew & Chat Cafe on Yelp in time to get off the exit. Someone else posted that you should try it even though the exterior looks a little sketchy. It's in a strip mall, but they were so right. I had the Southern burger. The pimento cheese tasted the way my grandmother used to make it. Others in our party had the chicken salad, grilled chicken, and fresh fruit. It all tasted fresh and so much better than a fast food fix. It wasn't too far off the interstate and was definitely worth the extra mile or two. They had iced lemon pound cake. We were too full to eat it, but we purchased a slice for the road..The service was fast and friendly. I would definitely stop again when we are near Rocky Mount. read more

When I stepped into the small restaurant, I was greeted by the conversations of the patrons and the employees were serving/taking orders. The gentleman (who took my order) recommended several options and to my delight, they had food that I could eat. I placed my ordered and within minutes it was ready. Meeting friends that were roadtripping after their wedding and the bride decided on this place. Kind of out of the way of the highway and we wondered if we were in the right place. We were once we saw all the cars. The place is small but everyone was friendly and quick to answer any questions we had. The food was all delicious and hot. It isn't a fancy place and the dishes are pretty southern. But everything we had hit the spot and was cooked perfectly. I love this place!! The staff, the regulars -- we did do both chewing and chatting. Within minutes of ordering the power went out - it happens. Our waitress said she would wait to put our order in just in case. We ended up talking to one of the regulars and his wife - everyone was so friendly. This place is definitely a spot for regulars and I would say that they are the heart and soul of the place along with the employees. I'm so glad we waited. The power came on about 15 minutes later and we enjoyed a delicious, reasonably priced breakfast. My husband was in heaven with his Southern Smothered which was biscuits covered with two eggs, sausage and gravy with a side of grits, which he couldn't stop raving about . I've always had great meals here. They're not too expensive, the menu changes from season to season. The staff is always friendly and very welcoming. It's small, but don't be fooled. The food is tasty, the chef has roots from down south and makes the best stuffing I've ever tasted at thanksgiving time. We recently had the fried flounder and it was excellent.
