Good seafood plates that will fill you up fast. Restaurant staff were attentive and friendly. The shrimp and flounder are my favorites.

The portions here are huge when you order the take out dinners. The food is fresh and hot and delicious. I've had the jumbo shrimp( my favorite) the popcorn shrimp, the fish filets, and the scallops( which are amazing!!). The coleslaw is a tiny portion that comes on the side. I really like the hush puppies here. They are shaped like onion rings. Really good! I don't eat fries, so I can't comment on that. The baked potato here is good. It's a nice, big place with plenty of space. The service inside has always been okay. I usually order by phone and pick up which had been really smooth. Overall, a great place to eat! Got Shrimp Scampi, with baked potato and salad to go. Salad was lettuce, 3 grape tomatoes and 2 thin slices of cucumber. Baked potato skin was dirty, dark brown water come out of tinfoil when unwrapped, it had not been washed before baking, and had multiple bad places, and had not been baked long enough it was not done. Now the "Shrimp Scampi", VERY SMALL PORTION, for the price. VERY "FISHY" taste indicating it was not fresh or even recently thawed if previously frozen. We usually go to this restaurant a few times a year. After today I'm not so sure. I got the flounder/baby shrimp combo with a baked potato and slaw. The flounder was way overcooked. Shrimp was ok. Baked potato wasn't fully done but was edible. They have changed the slaw they usually serve. It was not good at all. I much better prefer the "old slaw". It's not what it used to be to be. I will wait a long time before trying them again. Hopefully an off day? Oh and our waitress was very attentive. read more

05/06/25 Went to eat at Mayflower. I was beyond pleased of course they were short staffed but those girls were hopping. Was seated in the back by myself and loved it but did eventually have others to join. My waitress was super nice, friendly and apologized for being short staffed. My food came and I was amazed at the amount of food and it was absolutely delicious. I told her to tell the kitchen staff they were doing an excellent job. I don't eat out much but Mayflower is on the top of my YES list! read more

Service was fine but the menu is misleading. One of our party ordered fried scallop platter. What was presented were patties of some kind of rubbery, chunky, and mostly flavorless white stuff. It was breaded nicely but when I tried to cut one of the "scallops" I immediately thought that something was a bit off. The "scallop" didn't have the uniform muscle structural the way through from top to bottom. It appeared to be small chunks all glued together (by cooking) in random orientation. The taste was nothing like a real scallop. Real scallops are rather sweet and soft, but the "scallops" were nearly tasteless the mouth feel was totally wrong. At checkout I happened to mention this to the cashier (not to try to get a discount or anything but because the cashier was being polite and asked if everything was good). The manager quickly came up and started explaining that it was real scallop. I said it couldn't be but he insisted that it was true... The fried "scallops" were actually small bay scallops that were chopped up (and get this... ) he used the term 'glued' together with other special proteins from other scallops. He also said the they had to do this because 'natural' scallops give off too much water when they are being fried, but they do have regular scallops that they use for broiling. I thought to myself, "if I ordered a steak from a menu I certainly would not expect to get a steak shaped hamburger!" I didn't want to argue with him anymore and just left. Like I said... The service was fine but I know I won't be going here ever again. Too bad... This place used to be a decent restaurant. By the way there is NO ambiance at all. read more

Remember to tip your servers well. This is your typical, local fish camp in small town Lenoir. It has your normal nautical themed decor with booths and tables as well as a party room for large groups. Server was nice and friendly and very attentive to me during my visit. I ordered the Salt and Pepper Canadian Flounder and Baby Shrimp. My server instructed me that I could S&P anything on the menu, which is nice. They bombard you with the hushpuppies, so if you are starving, indulge. The baby shrimp were flavorful and fried golden. The fish was fried to perfection, but it did not have a lot of seasoning. I really was lookkng forward to the fish and found it adequate. If you are in Lenoir, and looking at the already limited options, this place is totally fine to take yourself or your family. read more

The specialty food here is fried fish platters. Every time I have been here the food has been very good. You get a lot of food. My husband and I always split a plate and we leave full. I could make a whole out of their hush puppies! The waitresses are polite and everyone wears a mask. The tables are spaced so you are not close to anyone. read more

My husband and I were traveling all day with my Service Dog and stopped to eat dinner around 7 pm. We were all hungry even though the dog had not eaten and was hungry. We asked if our service dog was allowed (we always check before bringing him in) they said he was welcome. The staff was very friendly and the food was good. I could not stand eating while my dog smelled the food and was very hungry, so my husband took a little bit of his fish and fed the dog under the table to keep him happy. The manager approached our table and said we could not feed the dog that people would complain about (we were the only ones in the restaurant since we came in an hour minutes before closing. When my husband was paying our check the manager came up to him and said when we come back (which we wouldn't be back) that we must show him paperwork on our service dog (since the dog was wearing his vest). My dog is my lifeline and works very hard and he should have been treated the way any other customer should be treated. read more

We stopped in on our way home and I'm so glad we did! The portions are ridiculous. We both can eat and we have easily another meal leftover despite getting the "Senior" portions. Ordered pick-up for lunch the other day and debated for a while about leaving a not-wonderful review but wow their standards have fallen. Mayflower used to be a pretty good seafood restaurant - not the best but it IS an inland location so there's that but their food was good, the portion sizes appropriate, and the waitstaff and lower management were good. I ordered the lunch-size fried perch with cole slaw, baked potato, and hushpuppy rings. The scant perch were scrawny little things with far more batter than flesh; the hush puppy rings have gotten noticeably sweeter, and that poor, gritty baked potato looked like it had barely been rinsed under water - it had definitely not been scrubbed before being wrapped. I'm sad to see the formerly good quality of this restaurant falling like this and genuinely hope it's temporary. They charge way too much to offer food of this quality. read more

Well it started out good with the onion ring looking Hush Puppies that were very good. Kind of downhill from there. The service was average and I partly say this because how can you bring me a drink and free hush puppies and not bring me any real food an you come and ask me how everything is? How is what? I only have a drink. Yes there is such a think as over attention in my opinion. Now the main course. I had the Mayflower Special. It have shrimp, oysters, clams, and flounder and the plate. It sounds great and it comes with a side and slaw. Well I wish I had read the menu a little better or something. Look I have nothing against fried food. Hell I love fried food but when the frying actually has so much breeding that the food has no taste but the breading then there is a problem. Yes the overall service was good but let's face it when your out to eat the food makes or breaks a meal. The food here broke the meal. If you love heavily fried food that is pretty tasteless with all the breading there by all means come on in and eat up. They will give you plenty of food. On last thing. I thought the service was very friendly and nice. The free hush puppies were typical and tasty of most other places around. I had a grilled combination plate and I thought everything was good.. Very big portions and I couldn't finish everything. Ate with a group from work and everyone had a positive experience, enjoyed their food, etc. We will come back for one of our business lunches! read more

After eating here occasionally and finding the food ok, today the fish was so over done that out of 3 pieces (fried) only 3 bites were barely edible (fried 'til it cracked) and our other plate (broiled) was like rubber. In the past, due to some issues regarding hygienic practices in the kitchen, we didn't go back there for 4 years and finally started going back this year. The manager was not at all receptive when told that the food wasn't good today and was very unkind and hostile. Will never go back there and will not recommend. read more

I always enjoy the food here. The fried flounder is exactly what it should be. The hush puppies are so tasty that you almost always have too many. My wife says the salmon is tasty. If you are not a fish person, try their grilled chicken. They have several seasonings...normal, Cajun, teriyaki, and 4th one I forgot. Teriyaki is the one I tried and will keep ordering. It seems as if they put effort into a flavorful option for those who prefer something other than fish. The decor is not new but what you'd expect for this type of fish place. This was our first time here. It has good reviews so why not try it. I got the Alfredo with shrimp and DH got broiled scallops with fries, both meals came with salad. The portains were good size. This place lacks seasoning. I have never had such bland food and DH said the same thing, his scallops could of used some butter and garlic. We probably won't be back read more
