I was so looking forward to these flowers because it was a birthday surprise from my fiancé but my excitement died down when under 24 hours of having my flowers, they started to fall apart. I was SO excited to find this shop so close to my hotel while I was in town for the night to attend a baby shower. I did look at google reviews and saw everyone complaining about price but I thought they just aren't giving enough direction, don't understand flowers, etc. I called an hour ahead of pickup-- asked for a ~$100 mix of blues & pinks in a bouquet not an arrangement in a vase. Since I already knew it was overpriced. I'd rather have nicer quality flowers than the vase. Walked in, the shop is GORGEOUS. Don't let it fool you. My bouquet was a giant blue hydrangea (she said $25 for the one stem, ok fine) with 4 medium size pink roses. She also had a few fillers -- one white and one like a pink berry. As I'm trying to wrap my head around this I start inspecting the miniature bouquet and realize the fillers are dying. The white petals are turning brown and floppy. I point it out, she's says she'll switch it. As she's doing so I can see the berries -- dying like a fruit. Literally mashed brown on the back ! At this point she had been so willing to switch things out that I'm not upset I'm thinking we're going to make this work. When I showed her and pointed to the dead berries she physically swipes my hand away. I walked out of the store. Don't waste your money or time. I'm trying Blooms Reston Floral instead. There is no one better, look no further. Mayflowers is simply the best in Northern VA. I knew finding the perfect florist for my wedding would be no easy task. I am the kind of person who REALLY loves flowers and knew I wanted a unique, romantic, organic, jaw-dropping bridal bouquet. After meeting with a few other florists in the area and not feeling confident. I called Mayflowers, spoke to the wonderful owner May Bernhardt, and scheduled a meeting. Over coffee in her Reston Town Center shop (which is a plant lovers oasis and possibly the home of Tinkerbell), our artistic souls put pen to paper and started to sketch out my dream bouquet and centerpieces. May saw my vision and so much more. May was able to secure flowers other florists told me were impossible to get given the time of year (white king and queen protea and amnesia roses). I had complete trust in her ability and boy did she deliver. May's flowers were much fresher and healthier than other florists' I had previously visited. She also did a beautiful job blending a variety of greenery (seeded eucalyptus and plumosa fern) that gave my arrangement an elegant and dramatic look. My centerpieces were equally as beautiful and seemed to have their own personalities. May had hidden little cabbages and pine cones within the centerpieces which worked perfectly for my December wedding. I was married in downtown Washington D.C. and literally had strangers stop me in the street to tell me my bouquet was the most gorgeous arrangement they had ever seen. I couldn't agree more with them. I couldn't be happier with my decision to go with Mayflowers for my wedding florals. read more

For TWO HUNDRED dollars. At any other florist, this would be the $40 basic arrangement with no fancy flowers or colors in the small circular bowl. Spoke to a nice person on the phone who told me to resend my email to info@mayflowersreston.com to ensure the owner, May did see it. So I forwarded my original email to which she replied in the most condescending way. I had included all my information in the original email (which I had just resent) along with photos/inspiration/ideas for what I was looking for. May herself had asked me to do this when I had spoken to her in person on March 2!!! When I had met her in person, she had mentioned that it'd be better to send her all the information in an email so she could price it out to ensure we were not going to waste each other's time (I had asked to book an appointment with her). She was being quite snotty and rude, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt even though she seemed to look down on me as if I could not afford her flowers. I loved the arrangements in the shop and in comparison to other shops, she carries quite an exotic bunch of flowers which is why I was willing to overlook her callous behavior, but now, forget it, especially reading other yelp reviews and google reviews about how the flowers die the next day and that her rude behavior is standard for her. Overall customer service here is atrocious. The owner is unprofessional and is more interested in talking about who she knows in the community than serving the one that surrounds her. I would highly recommend this place, and plan to do so if anyone ever needs a florist. I don't purchase flowers very often, so when I recently was in need of something I did what most people do. I searched for nearby florists in my phone. I looked at the shop closest to work and placed an order. I had one direction; something modern with Calla lilies. When I went to pick up words fail to explain how terrible, unhealthy looking, and dated the arrangement was. All I could think was how much the person these were intended for would hate them. In a panic I had to find something else as it was for that same evening. Upon departing I went to Mayflowers and the lady who helped me there was quite my savior. I gave the same direction to her and on the spot she created something for me that was beautiful, elegant, and modern. It wasn't just the higher quality flowers (they were so much healthier looking) but the way she incorporated the green leaves in the arrangement. It was exactly what I was looking for. I loved it, the girls at work loved it, and the person I intended it for also did. Cost was was definitely more than the first shop, but when you find a service that gives you exactly what you want it is definitely worth every penny. read more

I cant count the number of arrangements that we have had the joy to experience from May and the team at Mayflowers. We tend to have perhaps one a month created by them, we send them as thanks you's to local businesses and associates and we have shared their creativity and expertise with many friends and neighbors over the years. First and foremost, they listen. I can tell them a simple conceptual phrase or feeling or emotion I want to have captured in flowers, plants, hard-scape and pottery; and they will run with it. They always ask about budget, location where it will be displayed and of course timing and note content if desired. The vast majority of arrangements we have had from them we have been able to maintain and enjoy for weeks at a time and they have the most amazing and unique plants and accessories that they use in their arrangements. Not to mention the fabulous vessels that they use to hold their creations! No opportunity for excellence is overlooked. As a small local business they are also deeply connected to the community. When the Town Center started charging and ticketing for parking, they established a curbside pickup program in addition to their already great delivery service. We have also worked with them to provide arrangements for events and grand openings of other businesses in the area. Everyone always loves their craft and I am more than pleased to support their creativity and commitment to services and quality. Horrible customer service! Their garden roses may be high quality but the attitude of the florist is terrible. I accompanied my friend yesterday who is inquiring about made to order graduation leis and when she is asked if they make the leis , this Asian florist coldly told her " yes we do and it is expensive". I was horrified with the attitude and the statement from this florist who is implying ' you can't afford our flowers' . Honestly, this place does some amazing work but there are several pitfalls. First, back in 2010, my Mom and I hired this shop to do our arrangements for my wedding reception at Trump National Golf Club. Most of the arrangements were quite pretty and I loved them, but they did not bring a bouquet or hair flower as requested and the owners attitude was, "oh we forgot and can't do anything about it now"... it is an extremely rude way of responding when they screwed up... and honestly should have figured something out. The arrangements done were beautiful, but when you hire a company, you should get what you order. Next, my Dad went to get an orchid plant for my Mom yesterday and the arrangement was not pretty. Normally, most of their arrangements are very pretty but this one seemed to be a dud... and was still quite expensive. The flowers were shorter than the vase, there were 4 stems, which looked quite odd (I note that most arrangements are odd numbers), their was no different heights for esthetic look... sticks were just thrown in and didn't seem artistic at all. Not impressed with the arrangement... think it was just one they wanted to get rid of and saw someone who wasn't detail oriented about the floral arrangement. I ended with, as one other reviewer noted, one beauitful semi-old rose, and lots of green grass and plant. We were in the process of buying orchids here as a gift and the lady added a hidden service charge at the end. She said it was 15% for labor. Wtf?? Why didn't you mention this before? I used to work at a company called Noblestar back in 2000 and every week the reception desk would have the most beautiful arrangements that I have ever seen. I asked the owner where they came from and he told me a florist called Mayflowers. they used to be by Champs in the Plaza America but have recently moved to the Reston Town Center. When I first visited their floral shop it was nothing like any other flower shop I had ever been too. The Flowers were simply beautiful and the arrangements were pieces of art. I had never seen anything like it before. I am an executive for a high tech firm in the Northern Virginia area and I always recommend Mayflowers to all my clients and friends. I tell them if you want to impress your wife or girlfriend send them a bouquet of flowers from Mayflowers. Not one has ever been disappointed and they now only use May. The owner May is the nicest and sweetest woman. Her floral arrangements are just awesome. Just stop by the store and see so for yourself. Not only is it expensive, the quality of the flowers are terrible. I gave this place a try three times bc it was conveniently located next to my office. First time: ordered hydrangeas, garden roses, and peonies. It all died the next day. They were flowers for my mother and I paid a premium for those stems. Second time: gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried again. Same thing happened but the flowers died after three days instead of immediately afterwards. Third time: ordered lilies and had decent service this time but it was my last resort bc I was running late to the hospital. The lady who helped me did a poor job but one of their volunteers took over and completely redid her work so that it was presentable. Given that I paid a premium for their flowers I would have expected much higher quality. I even warned the BF not to purchase from here. I was lucky enough to rent out Mayflowers for my husbands birthday. Obviously this was a surprise for him! As the General Manager of Morton's, Maura, walked us across the street and the door opened, my husband was very confused. All he could see were beautiful flowers everywhere, candles, and a few people that wished him a HAPPY BIRTHDAY! They made sure everything was to our liking. Victoria, our private server, was there for our every need. Originally, when I had asked May if she could do 100 roses in a vase for me, she thought for a moment and looked through her store for a vase and then said Not a problem. As I started to describe what I wanted to do that night, she said, not a problem. She sounded as excited as myself. The night was perfect, there is not a fine detail that anyone missed. It was the most Beautiful Romantic evening. They even delivered the 100 ROSES and HYDRANGEAS, which weighed about 50lbs. I truly want to thank Maura, May, Victoria, and May's Assistants. Probably the worst service I've ever gotten. I called wanting to get my girlfriend flowers delivered and I asked for sunflowers, first off she states that sunflowers are ugly. Sunflowers are my girlfriends favorite flower so it really doesn't matter what you think of the flowers. Also I have a slight speech problem so instead of her saying "I'm sorry I couldn't understand you can you say that again?" She asks me if "I'm speaking English", after I've already been talking to her for about 5 mins in ENGLISH. In neither case did this "florist" have red roses. I kind of think these folks are a little lacking in the fundamentals of their industry. I would have loved to have flowers delivered to my cousin from this florist. However, when I called to place my order, the girl who answered told me that there would be an additional delivery charge if I wanted them tomorrow morning. I asked what their last delivery was today and she didn't know. Then I gave her the address, which she had a great deal of trouble locating and when I tried to give her VERY simple wording for the card she couldn't get it right. The quality of the peonies here are not that great unfortunately. They gave me an unhealthy bulb. Even when I asked them why it did not look right, they kept reassuring me it was perfectly fine. I've seen so many beautiful arrangements come out of this store- unfortunately Mayflowers lacks in customer service and none of my flower deliveries have been worth the money paid for them. My first experience with Mayflowers was for my wedding. I scheduled an initial consult and was stood up by the OWNER! She "forgot" to call and reschedule. The manager on duty told me that she was very sorry and would call to reschedule. A week went by and I finally picked up the phone. We rescheduled and met for over an hour talking about all the beautiful arrangements she could provide for my big day, but I never received the promised pricing quote. Apparently they must not need the business. My second experience was today, Valentine's Day weekend. Flowers were delivered to my office that looked half wilted and all of the pink roses had brown creases and edges on them. I called to ask about the delivery and was told to bring the flowers back to the store myself because they were busy! When I arrived, the owner was very short with me and told me that this was purely the "nature" of the flower. She also told me that she arranged what my fiance asked for. I'm sorry, but I know that my fiance did not visit the store and therefore did not specify which flowers he wanted. When he saw the arrangement, he told me that he would have never picked this out and it was not as described. For $85 plus delivery, an on-line order from FTD would have been 10x more appealing and I could have avoided returning my own Valentine's Day arrangement. Worst customer service ever! I bought two pots that I thought would go perfectly in my house. They were so fragile they cracked in my car maybe because of the heat. They had a very light bag of mulch over it but that shouldn't make it crack. When my husband went to return the pots, the manager hurled insulting remarks calling him a liar that we put something heavy on the pots that cause them to crack. She kept insulting him. He told her to just keep her money because he didn't feel right being insulted that way, it's not about the money, it's just the principle. Never going into that shop again and wouldn't want anyone else to be treated that way either. read more

Mayflowers is an extraordinary flower design shop. The arrangements are always spectacular and with a unique twist . I love the attention to detail with not only the design of the arrangement but often if she uses a glass base , she does a design with the leaves in the base. I have taken 2 of her design classes in which I got to appreciate the quality and uniqueness of the flowers --some of the unique flowers were $9-$12 a stem !! The best of the best ! read more
