Absolutely rude on the phone. I called to inquire if they had a particular flower variety available, and I received a snotty response because I didn't immediately provide the scientific name of the flower. Apparently "African Lily" isn't a common name for Agapanthus, according to them. Google says otherwise. They literally waited as I Googled the scientific name while on the phone. They couldn't comment on the availability until I provided more information. Clearly customer service isn't a priority for them. read more

ORCHID DISASTER! POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE DISCOVERED. FLOWERS OVERBOARD ON THE MAYFLOWER!! Our out of town friends, seeking a quality florist near our residence in Reston, chose Mayflower, possibly at the recommendation of their florist in Greenwich. The occasion was post-surgical recovery. We received a lovely two stem white orchid with at least 6 blooms on each stem. One stem snapped within 20 minutes of unwrapping due to the weight of the stems blooms. Proper staking of such an outstanding specimen should easily be expected from a florist trying to cultivate a high-end reputation with its selection AND its high pricing. Yes, they are VERY EXPENSIVE!!!. A call the next day received by May, the owner, was met with her presumptuous understanding of our handling of this gift. We know orchids are delicate. We have received orchids from our friends for years and never had this happen. May did not offer a replacement or a replacement even at cost. May, and Mayflowers, simply said it was our fault and we could come in a buy a new plant. Hmmm. Given the chance to delight, May chose to show her extreme misunderstanding that great customer service comes with her high prices. We are excessively disappointed with Mayflowers. We will recommend that our friends and Greenwich Florist search for another relationship in or near Reston. Yes. Eek! Methinks not. Flowers over on the Mayflower. read more

VERY expensive - and not worth the price. In the last four years, I've received bouquets from this place that are starting to wilt or turn brown within a day. They may be 'artistic' but they don't last beyond that initial delivery - really a shame because I know the giver of these arrangements is paying big bucks - and not getting value for their money. I've only gone in their Plaza America shop one time - and felt as though they were arrogant and too busy to deal with the likes of me - so obviously, they aren't getting any business from me or the company I work for as a result. read more

A Horrible and Disgusting Owner. Her name is May and she didn't say one word to me as I browsed her Reston, VA store. May just stared at me and looked me up and down. Very unwelcoming. I didn't even know she was the owner. I googled her store to complain and found that she was indeed the owner. I was appalled. I will gladly take my business elsewhere. There are many other, more talented florists in the area. Her arrangements are also over-priced. Get over yourself lady!!! Your attitude is sickening...you sell flowers for gods sake, you don't make them. That's god's work. You're not god, so stop acting like everyone is beneath you! Maybe you should stop walking around with your nose up in the air and come back to reality. I love working with Sara at Mayflowers via phone and email. They are very responsive and make sure to create the perfect arrangement, even if it's not identical to the image you provide. The flower arrangements they create are absolutely stunning and cannot be compared to any online arrangements. Not only do they last for a long time but they make the room have such a amazing aroma. My boyfriend sent me flowers for our anniversary. He told me to take a picture of it and send it to him and upon receiving the picture, he said, "I ordered lillies (my favorite flower) for you and I wanted spring colors!" What I received were two miniature white calla lillies, white chrysanthemums and a white rose with a lot of filler. They charge you an arm and a leg - not worth it. read more

So I love the location of this shop-and my husband and I always seem to peer in after it closes, as we're usually on the way to Morton's or Jackson's. My husband was away on business the week of our anniversary and sent me an arrangement from here-it was...small. 4-5 roses and some greenery, in a small (5" tall) vase. I thought maybe he was being frugal, so I simply said "thanks babe" and left it at that. When he arrived home and saw it on the counter he was embarrassed and annoyed, and proceeded to share with me the cost-$100. Yes...$100. I thought that was beyond outrageous-this looked like a $30-40 arrangement at best. In fact, I'm willing to bet you can find something similar at the Safeway flower shop. So he decided to pay them a visit and request a refund or replacement (and I assure you, it must've been pretty bad for him to do that, he never returns ANYTHING). Unfortunately, the woman he talked to said "well they are high quality roses" and didn't offer him a refund or a replacement and shrugged her shoulders! I've never heard of such a thing. He then apparently demanded they come to our home, pick up the arrangement and replace it, which they did do. Replacing it with a slightly bigger sunflower arrangement. Now-we are a particularly affable couple who don't complain about much. But the attitude and customer service here is simply nonexistent. We will not be using this "florist" again, because they are simply far too expensive for what you receive, coupled with nonexistent customer service. My husband definitely spent additional blood pressure on them too-poor guy. read more

Wow! Where to start? From the moment I walked in I felt uncomfortable. No one said anything to me until I spoke up and asked if anyone could help me. I spoke with two people that day, along with the owner, not very nice and rather rude, if you ask me. I was there to order flowers for my wedding and had I called first, but they seemed very disorganized and unfamiliar with the ordering process. When the owner finally decided it was worth her time to talk to me, she seemed very offended that I would ask for reasonable priced flowers for my wedding. "you can't put a price on taste." Seriously?!? Where does this old crow get off that she can be so rude! I had gone to two other places, but it was getting down to the wire, and they were the closest. So against better judgement, I went with these jokers. I ordered 6 bouquets, 6 boutonnieres, and flowers for the mothers of Bride/Groom. They were delivered the day of the wedding (Late). I paid for them without checking (BIG MISTAKE) and took them into the suite. The Bridal bouquet colors were wrong and the M.O.B. and M.O.G.'s little bouquets were horrid, they were two dinky little roses wrapped in florist tape. YUK! I apologized to them and they both said not to worry, it was no big deal... but I felt bad. I really don't think two roses taped together is worth $48.50. Do you?Oh, did I mention they over charged my by $125.00!! With no real explaination. Do yourself a big favor and Go Somewhere Else!!! read more

I hate to write a bad review for any business, as a business owner I understand the variables but, I have received two disappointing floral experiences. I received an orchid that was beautifully presented but had a dead, yellow leaf and inappropriately packaged for this plant. I also received roses and peonies and they were dead within a week and the peonies never opened. I called the florist and honestly from their response I felt I was on trial for abuse. I had the unfortunate experience of having to deal with such arrogant people at Mayflowers. Their customer service is something to be desired. I was told that spending $200 for a centerpiece was 'nothing' and that other clients spend much more. Bottom line: Prepare to spend lots of money on flowers that you won't know what you are getting until the event. If you have ideas of what you want, be cautious -- it's Mayflowers way or no way! My ideas were quickly shot down....I had to remind them that I was paying them to make my ideas work and to provide suggestions! They need to get off of their soap box! We went to Mayflowers for flowers for our wedding. As the other reviewers have said, their flowers are on the higher end, price-wise. However, their arrangements are absolutely stunning, and they have some flowers that I've never seen anywhere before. We made an appointment (necessary for discussing wedding flowers), and they were lovely. They really listened to what we wanted and made suggestions that were spot on. I surprised my wife with a belated birthday, complete with a beautiful arrangement from Mayflowers. I followed the directions to never let the water level get low. Not only was it full of exotic flowers, it lasted a good two weeks and some of the flowers kept opening. Wow! Amazing. She was very happy. I placed an order over the phone for an arrangement to be sent to a friend. When I visited the friend and saw the arrangement I was shocked!! It looked like something from the Dollar Tree. The vase was uneven, the silk flowers were misplaced, showing the foam...it was very small and cost $65.75. I was so embarrassed that my friend received such a horrible looking gift at such a high price. When I called the store to complain to the owner, she would not give a refund, claimed that nothing like that would come from her store that she did nothing "half-assed" and my friend probably ruined the arrangement. Very argumentative and rude.....beware.....high prices for poor quality and horrible customer service...would NEVER recommend this store to anyone!!!!!!!!!! read more

I took a vase to Mayflowers and wanted an arrangement of dried flowers for Thanksgiving. Simple request. I was showed elaborate arrangements in the store that were priced at $400. I put a cap of $100 on the arrangement. The woman who helped me, however, could not close the deal because the shop is single threaded. Only May, the owner, can make a decision and she wasn't there. So, I had to leave the vase and wait for a response. Five days went by. No call. I called the store and was told that May said it can't be done for $100. No call to say thank you for your business, can we chat about options? No call to provide some creative input so we could reach an agreement. Nothing. She didn't want my business. Didn't even want to engage with a customer. I picked up my vase and no attempt to salvage the sale. Unbelievable. This market is too flooded with florists to be so rude. In addition, the shop is awkwardly located. Parking is very difficult, you need to walk quite a distance to get there, and the shop is in an odd location. The outside of the shop is quite lovely, but the inside is another thing. I won't return. read more
