One can walk a substantial distance in either direction and be treated to canal views and river views. Notably, a waterfall and pond running off of the canal are near here. It's a pretty area, and while he parking lot will be crowded on a nice day I've never had any trouble getting a space and once you get out on the trail it's usually quite pleasant.

Augusta), but that does not mean it is lacking. Whether you are biking, running, or kayaking the lake has something for everyone. If you are biking from the Savannah Rapids trail it will connect you to a few trails to get you into the city, if you kayak from Savannah Rapids Pavilion then your pick up will be at the ramp shown in the picture. They have festivals at Lake Olmstead throughout the year but it is a hit or miss because most of the time you hear about Julian Smith Casino (Event Venue). If you are not familiar with the area I recommend going out as a group first, but if you are rolling solo then keep your head on a swivel, take some personal protection spray and have a few exit strategies. Just like any exploration, Safety first! Almost forgot, if you are kayaking I highly recommend waterproof socks and water shoes if you are disembarking at the Lake Olmstead entrance/exit launch ramp (just my opinion).

They have few rest rooms that are well kept and managed with even a medical emergency supply room incase of any incidents. The grounds are kept very clean too and lots of public parking available. We traveled from Lexington, KY and were staying in North Augusta, SC which was only about 30-40min away. Worth the drive!! We did the Bronze Party Package for 10 of us - it was easy to book and totally affordable. This package included: 1 jet ski, 2 single kayaks, 1 tandem kayak, 2 stand-up paddleboards, and a party float/ lounger! We had fun alllll dayyyy long!! The staff was informative and took our safety seriously but also really encouraged us to have fun. Riding the jet skis was probably our favorite part! There was a picnic table right by the water that we were able to use and the water in the lake was clear. We even got to see an Eagle!!! I've ran a couple 5k's here and they were fun as well. The is also the Julian bbq pitt which is an "hut" like building available for events. I'm most often here because it's a gateway to the Augusta canal trail. Just a short hike to aqueducts or you can take bike ride all the way to Savannah River rapids. You can also kayak and enjoy the lake too. So plenty to do to enjoy the outdoors here :)

Parking is ATROCIOUS. There is very minimal free parking. The lots are made of dirt and gravel, no defined parking spaces. It's quite common to get parked in and be unable to leave until the others nearby come to get their vehicles. Frustrating is an understatement! Some people would walk all the way from parking off Broad Street. 2. Neighborhood not the best, not the worst. Safety at night is definitely more of a concern. 3. Ticket line is always lengthy. The stands can get crowded and there is little room to move around comfortably if you need to stretch your legs. Otherwise, this is a fun facility. I miss it often, even when at current Green Jackets games across the River. I hope it stays around and gets good use!
