The boat ramp can get pretty busy on the weekends but there is a nice loop you can do that let's put into the river and then back. There is a rope swing at one point of you don't mind getting in the murky water. It is a peaceful kayak route.

Augusta), but that does not mean it is lacking. Whether you are biking, running, or kayaking the lake has something for everyone. If you are biking from the Savannah Rapids trail it will connect you to a few trails to get you into the city, if you kayak from Savannah Rapids Pavilion then your pick up will be at the ramp shown in the picture. They have festivals at Lake Olmstead throughout the year but it is a hit or miss because most of the time you hear about Julian Smith Casino (Event Venue). If you are not familiar with the area I recommend going out as a group first, but if you are rolling solo then keep your head on a swivel, take some personal protection spray and have a few exit strategies. Just like any exploration, Safety first! Almost forgot, if you are kayaking I highly recommend waterproof socks and water shoes if you are disembarking at the Lake Olmstead entrance/exit launch ramp (just my opinion).

We lived on a military base, where life was super urban and the Nature Center was a place you went to on occasion. But again, I am trying. I stopped in here after a Sunday brunch and cocktails (see what I mean?). My thought process was that if I expose myself to businesses that deal with the outdoors then maybe it will help me get outdoors more. I went to the golf section first (taking it slow) to check out the apparel. I worked my way around to fishing gear then was sure to check out the knife selection. I must have spent a better part of an hour there. What I like most about this Savannah-based business is the variety of products. There is women's apparel, Yeti coolers, and more. They offer free classes like Fly Fishing 101, where you can learn about fly casting and outfit rigging (no, I don't know what that is). There are private classes you pay for like Fly Tying, Casting, and Fly Fishing School. I am glad they are in the area and maybe, just maybe, they can be the key to me loving the outdoors more.

Augusta Riverwalk in Georgia is a wonderful place to unwind and relax at. While my family was in…read moretown bike riding the Greenway in South Carolina we decided to cross state lines and ride in Georgia a little bit. That's when we stumbled upon the Riverwalk. It's a fully brick walkway along the Savannah. My family enjoyed our time here while we took a break from bike riding. Along the path there are numerous picnic tables that offer spectacular views of the river, but the path does not offer a lot of shade. However there is an amphitheater that has a canopy with a couple of benches, if you are looking to get out of the sun. Although my family had a good time at the Riverwalk there is some maintenance that needs to be done. The trellises that are in front of the amphitheater were withered; there was noticeable deterioration of the wood and visible rotting of the wood. Even though the riverwalk path needs some maintenance, I had a wonderful time enjoying nature and relaxing near the Savannah River. I would definitely recommend going to the Riverwalk in Augusta Georgia, if you want to get some fresh air while enjoying the scenery and the sounds of nature.

I assume it's about 3 miles as you can walk at the top level or the bottom level. What was really nice was that along the journey was the water where you you saw the different level measures of flooding in the area that occurred like in 1908, 1928, 1990 and other eras. There were beautifully crafted artwork either bought or on loan to the city of Augusta. Also there were a lot of historical plaques of which one was a paper mill in the area at one time but I'm not sure of the actual location. There was a photo of Moody 1946 which was interesting. I was really sad to see so many fallen beautiful trees which showed how the ecosystem is changing and impacting Mother Earth. I would definitely be going back to this place again.
