I came here for brunch with my mom, for a quick bite to eat. She's from the area and said that a lot of people recommended this diner. I'm a sucker for diners so how could I say no?! The diner itself hasn't been updated probably in a couple decades but WHO CARES because the portions are generous and the staff is nice. You can never go wrong with ordering breakfast food at a diner and I elected to go with their vegetarian omelette. I added mozzarella cheese with a side of bacon. I've eaten at this place a few times it's decent!! Not great but decent. So we sit down, I order ginger ale -- I'm brought a raspberry ice tea! I proceed to order my food, then give my to go order. Portions were so large that I had enough leftovers to feed the family breakfast the next day- just added additional vegetables to my hash. The pancakes were super fluffy. The French toast was thick and tasty too. Everyone in my family enjoyed all their dishes. Service was good but if you want to talk about shrinkflation this place is the champ. Two eggs over easy were the smallest eggs I've ever seen. The toast was also the thin sliced bread. You know the kind you get in the store to cut calories by 20 per slice. Never before seen that at a diner. And finally the sausage that I asked for was cut long ways four times to the thickness of about 3/16 of an inch. We haven't been here in 3 years? Yup that's what my Yelp said. We stopped because the new owners took away the baked goods (elephant ears) on the counter and the host was why underdressed (I know it seems petty, but it's a matter of "dress to impress"). But the worst thing was they messed up my Italian omelette and scrabble. My friend told me the baked good are back! They aren't, but they do have cookies muffins, and a nice selection of cakes and pies. He said the host was dressed nice and he was. They are two for two He said the food was well above par. For the old aZz ambiance of this place they need to take it easy on their prices. $20-21 for a breakfast skillet? $10 for a side of ham? Breakfast "specials" $15.95. Come on. We just left without ever getting our food.. They came by and went to both booths in front and behind ours to say the waitresses disappeared but never acknowledged or spoke to us.. my husband said we must be the invisible man and woman so we got up and left. I am a bartender and know things happen but after waiting longer than both other booth's which was approximately 45 minutes and not acknowledged is bad business! It was the weekend after my birthday and I remembered I had an email from iHop saying I had a free rooty fa-looty thing-a-ma-jig and all I had to do was present my *printed* coupon to the cashier. Since I dont own a printer, and they emailed it to me, and they didn't mail me a paper coupon, I figured this was a reasonable request, me being on a weekend vacation and all... Well folks short version of this digression is, I left the bland cookie cutter iSlop and their sham of a "free" offer they'd rather you not redeem, turned to my favorite app on Android, Yelp, and I found this fantastic example of a fine N.J. diner, May's Landing, and was shown what a REAL BREAKFAST looks like, served by a really good wait staff in a fine (for an upscale diner) atmosphere where they took care to design the decor; heck, the M.L. diner even has dozens of fresh flowers and plants all about. Five stars for a real stack of pancakes and a real egg and sausage plate served with real homefries in their Mays Landing breakfast special platter. If you're in south NJ, leaving Atlantic City, there's no excuse to go to iHop over a fine diner like this, even if its your birthday and you happen to have a printer. read more

I finally had lunch at a South Jersey diner! On my way to Wilmington DE from Atlantic City, I made a lunch stop at Mays Landing Diner on US 40. This local diner serves up breakfast any time, lunch, and dinner. The place was fairly busy on a hot Saturday afternoon and I was seated at a booth near the window. The menu is fairly extensive with all the typical breakfast dishes,salads, soups, chili, seafood, steaks, chops, veal, chicken, sandwiches, wraps, Greek dinners, pasta, and homemade desserts on display. The prices are reasonable herewith sandwiches under $10 and dinners $10-$22. A Kids menu and Daily specials are offered too. The layout of the diner is spacious with booth seating along the windows, table seating, and a long lunch counter seating area, and neon string lighting and glass chandelier lighting. I ordered the Homemade Chili over Rice Pilaf ($7.95) served with soup or salad. I had a cup a Seafood Bisque which was not thick but had chunks of real crabmeat. The complementary basket of sweet breads/corn bread, and warm white bread were good. The chili dish came out very quickly after the soup came out. The homemade chili had the right flavors, not spicy with beef beans, onions, topped with a thick layer of melted cheese served over firm rice, the right sized portion. The service was very accommodating, quick, and attentive. I got water refills when needed and I took advantage of the free wifi with my laptop at my table, a definite plus on my long road trip. This is what a diner should be !! Went here with my parents on Easter Sunday morning after church. My mother and I ordered the Farmer's Omelet, which included ham, bacon, sausage, onions, diced tomatoes and green peppers. It was delicious and also came with a side or toast or muffin and hash browns. My dad ordered 3 fried eggs, french toast, sausage and hash browns. Would love to give a huge shout out to the male manager who was working Christmas eve! Called to make sure that a party of 12 was okay to be seated tonight, was told that they stop seating at 5:30 as they close at 6....After arriving at 5:20, we were told that they are not seating, even though we called, and told to leave as they were only accepting take out orders. The door was locked right behind us. When calling to place a takeout order, every worker stared at the phone and would not pick it up. While wanting the chance to bless the server with a $100 tip for accommodating tonight and working Christmas Eve, sadly we could not do so. read more

Boyfriend and I wanted a simple and quick lunch before a matinee movie, and Mays Landing Diner fulfilled all of our needs and then some. Very clean, very cute, classic Jersey diner vibe. I was in the mood to Greek out a little bit, so I ordered a Greek Chicken Wrap (grilled chicken, lettuce, tomato, feta, and Greek dressing) on a spianch wrap. Boyfriend had a grilled chicken panini and a cup of French Onion soup. First and foremost, I really appreciated that our food did not arrive .3 seconds after ordering it. Even in a diner, it's nice to know that your food wasn't just sitting around being kept warm, waiting to be slapped onto a piece of bread. Both platters were huge. I don't know about boyfriend's panini, but my wrap was exceptional. The chicken was moist and had that delicious grill flavor, the feta was rich and creamy. Both of these elements were clearly the stars of the show, while the tomato and lettuce kept things cool. The Greek dressing was flavorful but didn't soak the wrap, a definite plus. I also really liked that the wrap was just that: something to WRAP my food with, not a main ingredient. The accompanying french fries were hot, crispy, and tasty. Boyfriend's soup was cheesey and steamy. I don't care for French Onion, but it looked and smelled great and he was very pleased with it. Our attentive waitor didn't make us longingly look around for him when we needed something, and he brought two takeout boxes over without us even having to ask. The menu is expansive and covers all the diner standbys, as well as some homemade options that I actually wouldn't mind trying, based on what I sampled this time around.
