Freddy J's is an American restaurant & bar in Mays Landing next to the inn at sugar hill. The building looks small from the outside but has a large bar inside with plenty of seating throughout the restaurant. I was expecting only bar food, but was pleasantly surprised because it's definitely more than that - it's so delicious with something for everyone! Our server was attentive & quickly corrected my entree that came out with the wrong protein. I also liked paying with the QR code that made our exit very seamless. I loved their cocktails! I got the Mays Landing Sour which was a favorite drink of mine when I used to go to whiskey bars in my twenties, so it was very nostalgic! I also got the Pineapple Jalapeño Margarita which had a nice kick if you like things spicy like I do! The Poké Bowl is a new menu item & I love how customizable it is! I went with grilled salmon, brown rice & Asian glaze for mine & it was so perfect! I couldn't have asked for a better dinner that was healthy too! The crab rangoons were tasty, but heavy on the cream cheese & low on the sweet n sour sauce. I can't wait to go back & try some of their delicious smelling bbq that they offer on Fridays & Saturdays only. They also do brunch on Sundays & have fantastic sounding desserts that are calling my name next time!

My sister and I decided to try out this hidden gem. We drove by it everytime we went to Mays landing . The place had its own unique vibe and I was all for it. The waitress was very attentive as soon as we walked in.. we sat down and looked at the menu... it was bar food at its finest. I decided on the smash burger and my sis the hot spicy chicken sandwich ... we also order never before this corn bread that was the star ... it was regular corn bread it was between corn bread and bread pudding ... it was fantastic with the maple butter. The meal was cooked to my liking and the waitress was so attentive even though she was the only waitress working ... the place was packed and she manage to get everyone's food to the table without any delay. . I'm glad my sister chose this place to eat mom & pop establishment is always better than chain restaurants which this place is surrounded bye . We had great food / great time and also bought back leftovers for the next day.

We just moved into the area and came to Freddy J's for a late lunch on Saturday. Enjoyed She Crab Soup and a brisket salad, which was delicious. Topping the meal off was the Berry Spicy Margarita. The service was friendly and attentive too. BTW... I told the waitress that we are brisket snobs because we just moved from Texas... Freddy J's is right up there with the brisket that we've had in Texas! Thanks for making our first weekend as New Jersey residents a good one!

    Smoked Wings with Buffalo Sauce

We came here during Atlantic City Restaurant week and we loved it. It doesn't look like much at first, but once you get inside it's a pretty cozy bar and restaurant. The whole place was decorated from top to bottom with eye popping Halloween decor. There was a good crowd there even at 9:00 at night on a Wednesday watching a Phillies game. It's a neat place to watch a game because of the main bar area and the TVs everywhere. For the prix fixe menu, I ordered the 10 piece wings, meatloaf, and banana cheesecake eggrolls. My friend got the fried shrimp, salmon, and cookie dough lava cake. Even though I ended up with the wrong order of wings (was supposed to be BBQ but got Buffalo!), it was so good I didn't mind at all. In fact, those might actually be the best wings I've ever had. They were very meaty, smoked, and the sauce was better than your average Buffalo sauce. And that was only an appetizer! That dish is big and good enough to be an entree of its own. The main entrees were pretty good too. My meatloaf came jam packed full of food. It also had a corn bread, mashed potatoes, baked beans, and cole slaw. The corn bread was really good because it was topped with cinnamon butter. The dessert with the cookie dough cake was sooo good! The cookie was baked in a muffin stencil so it was a cookie but was also cakey. My favorite dishes are definitely the wings and the cookie cake. So in short: this place rocked from start to finish. Even if you don't drink it's a fun place to hang out and eat. Our service from Danny was wonderful, she was knowledgable about the area and menu. She even spotted the mistake with the wings before I did but I didn't mind. The food is fantastic and the prices are reasonable. I can whole heartedly recommend Freddy J's.

Great little place that has a spot to bring your dog! Outside area was very cool. Our server Danni was the best. Had the wings which were pretty good Mrs had the chicken which was yummy as well. Even Gambino had the chicken. Prices were on par with everything else that's going on in the world. Best part. Left a dog bowl & They called to come pick it up. Will definitely be back

This is not your average pub; the food, while familiar, is a notch above. Service was friendly and fast, and the interior clean and new. My son and I shared a Freddy J burger (with brisket, gilding the lilly for sure) and a Crispy Chicken sandwich . Our table shared the pork belly, which came with a great salsa; the belly could have been more rendered and seared, though. Cheese curds for the table as well.

Have been wanting to try this place for a while. Went on a Saturday afternoon and this was our experience. The server was very nice (I didn't get her name but she had blond hair and on the day we went, she wore a pink tshirt). We ordered a pineapple jalapeño margarita and a gin and tonic. To eat, we ordered the hot honey wings (well done), pork belly bites, truffle fries and a brisket cheesesteak. Everything tasted just okay. Not terrible but nothing amazing. I was disappointed and for a price (with tip) of over $100, it seemed really expensive for lunch. I guess it's par for the course these days but not for the quality of food.

Overall food's presentations are good, prices are fare. I tried walnuts French toast, not over cooked, not too sweet and not too much cinnamon powder, that's the way I like Chicken waffles truly recommend it, specially the sauce every bite can not without it Short ribs burrito not bad, but I would like to try their other menu Short ribs Mac & cheese more than burrito Lobster Benny tasted just way a little bit plain compared other 3s, maybe the sauce they didn't add enough lemon juice or missing some ingredients, good thing is I can taste lobster it's very fresh, and I loved that hush brown underneath Definitely will be return next time to try something else besides Sunday brunch

a glass of beer and a dollar bill
    Michael G.

Three of us went there after the Atlantic City airshow on August 24. Our bill came to over $150. As a beverage, I ordered a bottle of beer Off their beer menu which did NOT show prices. I have had this beer on other occasions and I've never spent more than $12. When the bill came, I noticed the beer was $28. Thinking it was a mistake, I asked the waitress and she said... No mistake. At that point I asked if the owner was available. He was polite but not willing to make an adjustment to the bill. I wasn't looking for a free beer. I was just looking for some sort of concession on the price so I did not feel so taken advantage of. These photos were taken 8/28/22. Please notice that the price for 16 ounces was 1/3 the price of a 12 ounce bottle at Freddy J's.

    Flat Beer & tasteless food
    Laurie S.

Flat beer, no taste wings, a chicken sandwich drenched in oil, also no taste, and a soggy cold grilled cheese. My "adult" beverage was supposed to be a hot chocolate with Baileys & Khalua..,it was served with whipped cream & rainbow sprinkles..seriously, sprinkles?..more whipped cream than drink which in turn made my hot chocolate, cold chocolate milk. The French fries were ok, best part was the brussel sprouts. The waitress was very nice.k

    Collard greens
    Karen W.

Place is extremely clean, staff is very friendly, COVID regulations are followed. Crispy Brussel sprouts were delicious!! No if ands or butts!!! Outstanding!! I only wish the rest of the meal followed. The collard greens were good just a little salty. Ribs platter was ok! Portion side was great! I do not like smoked ribs (I should have read). Corn bread ok -- should have ordered the appetizer corn bread w/hot honey)... bake beans dry no favor, Mac & cheese was ok, Cole slaw look pretty but hubby did not like it! Chili Hamburger was ok! Sorry no pic! French was good... Full bar but my cocktail was not good.. Bathroom extremely clean..

Extra $2 charge per drink.. also note it's an extra 3% per credit card transaction at the bottom.

I visited for lunch during Restaurant Week, which I enjoyed because of its close proximity to the corporate hub in Center City where I work and for its solid menu. I was seated quickly at a high-top for my noon reservation. The restaurant is much larger inside than it looks, split in half with the left providing an upscale bar aesthetic while the right presents a quieter, modern lounge feel. (It seemed like service staff was directing those with previously-booked OpenTable RSVPs to the lounge side.) Service was great, as my waitress continuously checked in during my meal even as more customers arrived throughout the lunch period. I appreciated being offered to add fries on my burger order, as Village Whiskey didn't have it automatically added on the RW menu. The only drawback was she forgot to ask how I wanted my burger cooked, but it came out medium rare which is the way I eat it regardless. I trust that's how they default, which is a good sign. The Food Breakdown: Deviled Eggs (4/5) - Classic, solid, and a good starter. I honestly selected it since the other appetizer options didn't really appeal to me, but nothing spectacular or negative about it. Four comes with each order. All-American Burger (5/5) - Fantastic. I'm not a pickle enjoyer, but the acidity just blended into each juicy bite. The jam had a slight kick, and you can taste the fattiness within the double Wagyu smash patties. High-quality all around and a solid portion size. Duck Fat Fries (4/5) - They were well-seasoned, and each order comes with a small side of ketchup. Granted I didn't ask, but I almost wish they offered a spicy mayo instead because it would complement the crunchiness better. Overall, the food quality and taste were superb. My only caveat was the price, knowing that $35 after tax and gratuity for lunch (without an additional drink) is costly. I wouldn't be able to come everyday, but it certainly has my vote for sharing with others the destination that has an immaculate burger.

I only had the one I paid for. There's no need to lie, bad days happen. This is not a speakeasy, this is a restaurant cosplaying as a speakeasy. That may be a bit harsh, it's a speakeasy in training. Sure, it's got all of the speakeasy decor, blackout curtains over the windows and doors, and a big selection of pedestrian liquor but it's not quite there. We went in on an early evening on Wed and there were maybe 5 other patrons in there. Our waitress was nice and brought us water to the high top. She brought us two food menus, and a specials menu. I asked for a bourbon list and she brought it; no prices on the list. Annoying. On the specials menu there was a small section of manager recommended drinks and one was a Willet. The way it was written was confusing because it said it was both a 4 year and 14 year for $52, so I asked for clarification on the age statement. She took the menu to the barkeep, who confirmed it was a 14 year so I said yes I'll have that. A drink was brought to me, but I could tell from the taste that it was not what I ordered. I asked the waitress for the bottle, she asked the guy behind the bar for the bottle and he pulled down a willet pot still bottle (pot still is the entry level Willet and at best a 5 dollar pour, no where near what I asked for). I told her that I was given the wrong drink, then she approached the bar and between her, and the male and female bartenders they had a weird back and forth conversation. Then, finally they pulled down the bottle that I asked for, that was advertised, and gave me a pour of it. I asked to see the bottle and the waitress brought it over but held it instead of putting it on the table (it was a 13 year Willet, Paper Trail). As we were about to order we were told that they reset the menu the very day before, with the focus of putting more love and care into the food. Feeling good about that, we ordered the French quarter catfish and the bourbon braised short ribs. The corn that came with the short ribs tasted straight out of a store bought steamable pouch, and the "ribs" weren't ribs at all, just sliced meat. The only redeemable thing about the catfish dish was the aioli; the rice had no flavor, the corn was cold and hard, and the catfish was mostly breading. We both took a few bites and resigned. I have been to many speakeasies around the US, and there are common themes: a much better selection of liquor; 95% of the bourbon were low tier bottles you can find in any liquor store for around $50. Also, when customers ask for the bottle, it isn't because we plan to steal it or drink from it, its because we're genuinely interested in the information on the labels. The quickest way to get people to stop spending money is to make them feel as if they can't be trusted touching a bottle. Perhaps it was an off day for the staff and this wasn't a typical experience, but I won't go back.
