Crab cake Sandwich
Isabella H.

I ordered the crab cake sandwich and my fiancé ordered a burger. He really enjoyed his food and I could tell my crab cake was fresh! The service was decent, my only critique would be for ambiance and that it was very dark inside.

Food and service was excellent. First time here. The French onion soup was among the best I've had. Sorry no pictures I ate it too fast.

Quiet and cozy atmosphere. Inside could use a little updating as it is showing it's age. Otherwise, a great place for a good meal.

I learned later that this restaurant has been around since the early to mid 1900's. Plenty of parking in a large open lot. The place is very large and has one of the longest bars I've seen. The wood is very dark and you can see the chefs cooking over the hearth. They don't take reservations and won't see you until your entire party is there. One of the things I liked for our party of 10 was they had no problems with seating as they also have many large round tables. For mixed drinks, they make them pretty big and potent. For my martini, they sent back an extra glass. They also had great bleu cheese stuffed olives. We ordered onion rings (8 large to an order) and fried zucchini. The onion ring I had was pretty good. I didn't have the fried zucchini but heard it was also pretty good. Other than the light fare items, all dinners come with their salad bar which has both iceberg lettuce and Caesar Salad along with many fixings as well as cheeses and bread. I had the Baked Seafood Platter which came with scallops, shrimp, Clam Casino (without the shell), Maryland crab cake and a small lobster tail for $49.99. My wife had the baked chicken breast which she said was quite dry. The dining area is quite large and reminds me of the restaurants at a casino. Some in our group said it reminds them of Medieval Times due to the dark wood vibe. While I thought it was a bit pricey, I would still come back and try their signature steaks or prime rib.

The salad bar is classic: Caesar salad, iceberg, blue cheese, bacon bits, etc. Meet family here for a fancy night out, and it was a blast. Service was good. Portions are generous, so be prepared for leftovers. We had steak and eggs for breakfast the next day. Big steaks, big baked potatoes, unlimited salad. Come hungry. Good to know: It is a splurge. Also, they won't stay you until the entire party is there. We waited at the bar for everyone to arrive, where one cocktail was more than enough for me. You definitely get your money's worth, and you should not drive afterward. (I did not.)

So I thought to myself, how best to introduce you to a tried and true staple of an area in what is…read morenow called "The Orange Loop"? Well, the "Irish Pub" you know from the Monopoly game is actually this real property, "The Irish Pub and Inn", here on St. James Place in Atlantic City. Also, the game's iconic red hotel design inspired the game's red hotels, making it a real-life landmark for Monopoly fans. During most of the year, this legendary, 24/7 pub is famous for its unique, memorabilia-filled atmosphere and historical ties to AC, the Monopoly game, prohibition, etc., attracting visitors who enjoy its authentic, home-style vibe. But during Christmas, its decorations are on a whole other level of amazingness. Photos will not permit you to understand just how fantastic the volume and scope of lights, ornaments and figurines abound all around the restaurant and bar areas. The owner starts decorating weeks before Christmas adding new items each day through Christmas. You can't miss catching the Christmas spirit here, while taking in some spirits! It is a cash only venue. Make sure to come prepared. But if not? They do have an ATM onsite to help pay for the classic fish and chips or / AND the St James Potatoes. Those fries are like a poutine for those who know. The service is no frills but provided with pride and a smile, always. You can never go wrong here for a quick, basic, and satisfying meal and drink at reasonable prices in good company.

Ya'll if I could give them a higher rating I would. First, the bartender was great he knew the food…read moreso well and explained what was the best. My partner and I are vegetarian and vegan and he was patient and very knowledgeable about how the food was cooked and tasted. We have tried a lot of veg food in Philly and typically it's pretty good . But, this one was by far the best bar food. Their Reuben was fucking phenomenal. I grew up eating meat and seriously this tasted liked home . They marinate it and smoke it like they would pastrami. The combination of all the ingredients were delicious. We also ordered the veggie burger and it we good and hardy. It was made with kasha root. The outer crisp added a great texture to it.

Walked right up to bar, got served immediately by a female bartender. I thought "cool. This is my place. Exhibit A, after last call, I get served" So, this male bartender comes strolling up to me, after approximately 5 minutes of conversation with the folks next to me. He sternly says (under no actual necessary premises), "you need to leave, this is only for patrons who are regulars". Well? If that were the case, why'd I get served 5 minutes ago? I was going to leave anyway when the bar is officially closed, just like everyone else. Why did buddy have to come up to me and demand I leave. He was trying to start problems with me (most likely over a personal grievance I have with the tenant that he also knows who lives upstairs of the POPE-- completely unrelated to the money I just spent though) And so buddy proceeds to physically grab me and throw me out on the sidewalk. Basically-- buddy has a problem with me because I have a personal grievance with the tenant who lives upstairs, because he knows her, and knows I have a problem with her. He has a crush on her or something. But that's no reason to get physically aggressive and actively engage in assault and battery against a patron/regular who spends money. Avoid, or risk being assaulted. That's my premise. Bartender is lucky that I am too busy (and nice) to file for assault and battery charges against him.
