I have to be transparent and say I was lucky enough to attend a tasting event at Mazadar. It was love at first bite. The lamb is marinated for an entire week. The hummus is the smoothest you will ever taste (the secret is to take the skins off the chickpeas). The food here is a labor of love. This is a family restaurant with a clean welcoming modern vibe. Great for bringing kids- I'll be back with mine soon. The apps are all spectacular but the can't miss items are the hummus and eggplant (banjan borani). The meat was hard to pick a favorite. You really can't go wrong. But if you are a lamb fan you would be remiss to not get the lamb kebob. Eat in or pickup to take out, just get here. read more

Food is not fresh. Burgers are paper thin and frozen and heated on the grill. Doesn't taste fresh taste like it's from a restaurant wholesaler. Ive eaten at many restaurants and diners throughout year and THIS one is a GAURANTEED 5star experience. I'm very thorough when I rate food establishments. I first take in the atmosphere of the place. Mazadar is very clean,uncluttered, and modern. Secondly, I look at the employees. Mazadar had incredibly warm,polite,and informative employees. I had never seen their menu prior to this visit and it was displayed beautifully above the counter. There were videos on the monitors showing their dishes being prepared. I informed the man behind the counter that I had a few restrictions and he ,very kindly,suggested dishes that would work well for me. The third aspect of my rating system is the bathrooms. If the bathroom is nasty,the kitchen will be too. Mazadars bathroom was immaculate. Very clean. The fourth,and most importantly, is the food. Our food was ordered at the counter then delivered to our table on really nice glass plates. The portion sizes were pretty big. The food was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! The greens were very fresh and crisp. An assortment of unique condiments, and dressings were readily available on each table. We had the lamb which was cooked to perfection,medium rare for me. The cost was $40 for two dinners and drinks. I'm DEFINITELY returning to this restaurant. Check out their menu online. It's a great menu. As we sat there contemplating a score over our last few bites, we were sure that this score was going to be a big one. We give this business a solid 9.3 out of 10. You will NOT be disappointed. The name is a misnomer: this is Central Asian food, primarily Afghani. Outstanding kebab and kofte, the latter among the best I've ever had. They manage to cook tender, in marked contrast to some of the other similar places here and there in the area. We were frankly really surprised at how authentic everything is, considering the crypto-naming and the generic fast casual build out, but it's the real deal. We also had the mantu (beef dumplings with I think onions and split peas) which are fine restaurant quality. Delightful Afghan tea was just right. Also among the best felafels we've had in the area. Also: sumac as a condiment on the table! YES! About the only downmark is for use of generic iceberg lettuce in the accompanying salad, although the spicy cilantro and persian-style creamy dressings offered almost made that moot. The closest parallel in the area I can think of is Persian Bites, before it upscaled when it changed locations. Mazadar is certainly a huge step up from Garden Bistro in this spot, for about a quarter the cost. The service, btw, was excellent, although it's a walk-up order counter where you prepay and then go sit down -- again, firmly in fast casual territory - I urge you to tip when you get a chance at the payment screen. read more

Came here for a casual dinner and unintentionally showed up right when folks were breaking fast during Ramadan. It was lively with couples, a solo diner or two, and big groups of families and friends. The place is set up like a fast food spot (brightly lit, electronic screen menu, counter ordering) but the quality was more akin to a nice sit-down restaurant. We had the Mantu appetizer, lamb kebab, beef kofta, sabzi (spinach) side, and order of Afghan bread. All was delicious. I also ordered baklava and firnee dessert to go and was so happy I did. Baklava was fresh and firnee was balanced very delicately flavored (not over perfumed at all). Service was friendly. Really.. really.. great Afghan food. Awesome juicy kabobs & incredible white sauce! Its a causal fare with delightful interior. I like the fact that they have limited number of items on menu and all of the items are really good. I & my wife have visited this place several times in last few months and we are not tired of their food :) In my opinion there two areas of improvements: First salad portions are small & looked bit non-fresh during some of my visits. Yummy and seems very clean! We ordered the salmon kabobs, lamp chops and the veggie platter plus the firni for dessert (Afghan custard). They were all very good! We ordered the two different types of rice (one seasoned and one white with orange/yellow rice and what looked like couscous sprinkled on the top.). The entrees come with a little side salad and the meals also came with a side of yummy square bread that was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Went here for lunch with my wife after a walk on the bike path. Mazadar is located in the building formerly occupied by the Garden Bistro, in a small strip mall off Central Avenue. The space is open and airy, and smells wonderful. You go up to the counter at the rear and order - the illustrated menu is on a large board above. I ordered lamb kabob, which is served with a small salad, a generous portion of flavorful rice and a side of nan. $12.95. My wife order chicken kofta, which came with the same sides and nan. I got a fountain drink and she got a cup of water. We were told that the food would be ready in 20 minutes and that it would be brought to us. About 20 minutes later, it was. In addition to the food, we got three squeeze bottles of sauces: a mayonnaise based white sauce; a cilantro based green sauce; and a red hot sauce. All of the were terrific, flavorful and with enough garlic to give them a nice bite. My favorite was the cilantro based sauce, which I used on my salad- even though it didn't really need it. The white was perfect with the aromatic, slightly crunchy rice, and the red hot sauce - not too hot - went well with the lamb. Note - if they bottled these, I would buy them. One misstep- instead of kofta, my wife was served chicken kabob. Although a manager (I think) immediately offered to replace it, or make some to go, my wife opted to go with the chicken kabob. Turns out that was fine, because it was delicious! Juicy and flavorful with an accent of lemon - just perfect. My lamb kabob was very flavorful but cooked a tad too long and a bit on the dry side. The red hot sauce more than made up for that. Nan was tasty, a little more bread-like than what we expected, and both our orders disappeared without a trace. The food here was really tasty and the bill for these very generous portions including tax but no tip was around $27. We will definitely return, and recommend this to our friends- and to you! read more

Learned about this place on yelp, We ordered our usual favourite Lamb chops platter, Chicken kabob platter, Chicken kofta kabob wrap and Bolani. Food is nothing but scrumptious, savory, and Delicious. Everything was very well cooked. Quality & quantity was perfect enough for one person. Best part was they also serve kabuli Rice which I haven't found in any other afghan places in town!! They have done a pretty good job with the interior, a casual feel sitting place. I ordered takeout so the packaging and the sides were in enough good quality, we even ask for extra sauce and they dint charge us for that. Most of it is ok. It's not bad, but I wasn't particularly blown away or excited by the majority of the items I've tried here. I do however HIGHLY recommend the cheesesteak sandwiches. DELICIOUS. And fries with good taste and just the right amount if crisp. Love those fries! I generally get delivery and most of the time (4 out of 5 or better) is great, but once in a while the sandwich is sloppily constructed and cut, which if you don't notice and pick up the sandwich half it will pull a lot of it apart. It seems to line up with when I order and there is a pretty long delivery estimate so I'm sure they're super busy. read more
