Update to my previous review. If tonight's dinner is a good example, Mazza's is quickly growing into a very nice night out for families in Mount Vernon. We ordered a fried zucchini appetizer, which was delightful. Zucchini cut into spears, with a very light and well-seasoned breading, with a creamy zesty dipping sauce. OUr Mazza's salad was very good and well-flavored. For our main courses, we ordered spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, chicken parmigiana, salmon, and fettuccine alfredo. The lasagna was very nice, cheesy and flavorful with a great tomato sauce. The alfredo was initially somewhat bland, but with the addition of the table parmesan offered by the server and a little pepper, it was really good. The spaghetti was initially a little dry, as before, but my husband asked the server for a little more sauce, and it was great after that. The salmon was very good, served with a side of sauteed summer squash and onions. The only negatives: one person we were with reported that the chicken in the chicken parmigiana was very dry, a problem she also had with it a couple of weeks ago when she ordered it. Also as before, Mazza's has no sliced pickles for the kids cheeseburgers. This seems pretty silly if you are going to have them on the menu. Kids like pickles on their burgers, guys. Get a jar. Finally, the service was generally good, but as others have reported in their reviews, the timing is still not good. Two mains were served before any of us had finished our salads and appetizer, and the other mains did not appear until quite a while later. And we had to snag someone to bring us water refills, since our server never came around to do so. Rushed and uneven service, including poor timing of meals, seems to be a pattern in the reviews, so hopefully a little more training and practice will make Mazza's the really relaxing and tasty restaurant that it promises to be. Altogether, the dishes were very enjoyable for the most part, and we would definitely come back to Mazza's for a great family dinner. Me and my husband sat in the front of the restaurant in the waiting area for 25 minutes while 4 groups who arrived later then us were brought back and served . This was the worst hostess and customer service I have received at any establishment in a long time . We will never be returning . Don't waste your time or money here! We came as a party of 15. Had reservations made 2 weeks in advance. They had 2 tables for our family....separated. Even though we arrived as a group we were told they "were not allowed to seat us with 2 tables all together". We had to actually FaceTime the other table so they could see the birthday girl open gifts. When everyone FINALLY received their meals, our fathers was forgotten. So he had to wait another 15 mins for it. I returned their "famous" salad that was overwhelming with garlic for a side salad. Not the greatest either. I ordered the soup & salad, which the soup came in a cup a little bigger than a 2oz Dixie cup. The manager (man) was EXTREMELY RUDE!! He did apologize to my father for his meal being forgotten, but never to the rest of us for the 1hour long wait on the food. He came back and said he was going to bring out some desserts for our horrible experience. He brought 6 SLICES of different cakes for 15 people to split. When we complained that one of the tables didn't receive their desserts, the MANAGER told that table "that the other table must not have understood that the 6 slices were meant for everyone". ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!! So with an attitude he gave 3 more slices to our party. So in total 9 slices for our group of 15. When We eventually received the bill, I was charged for the replacement salad also along with a 18% tip already included. The restaurant was dead, (should've been our 1st clue) so there is no reason for the meal and service to be so slow. Do yourself a favor and go to Olive Garden or ANYWHERE ELSE!!! read more

Went with 5 adults and a toddler. Always a bit iffy w child in tow, but we needed to have a relaxed, faster service. The Mazza salad was fabulous. Spaghetti, vodka sauce, grilled shrimp was excellent. Pasta w alfredo quite good. Prime Rib done as asked. Meatballs highly recommend. However, I ordered Haddock filet which when arrived was barely warm and unevenly even cold in some spots. I asked the server to get it warmed up and then we waited. A LONG time. I was told that since I 'touched' the food, a new order had to be made. OK. My dinner companions finished their meals, our toddler was nearing the edge of tired, and my dish arrived. Hot, but I was now uncomfortable having our party wait for me to eat. I had several bites, it was 'fine', asked to box it up and we left. The evening was cold (38 degree) and we left the boxed meal on the floor of the car as we stopped for 30 min on the the way home. When we returned to the car, the automobile STUNK to high heaven of fish. OK. Wrapped the box in a baggie, and put in fridge. I had a disturbing night of stomach distress, put it off to other issues of the day as I am celiac. This morning I went to have my fish for breakfast, and it was surely BAD!. This place is a hidden gem. We are from out of town but my Wife used to live in the area and was there when I believe it was in a different location but she said the food is the same and the place is nicer now. We had the Mazza's salad - super garlicy but really good. We are going to try to recreate this salad at home with maybe something other than just iceburg or romaine lettuce. (Not sure which they use or maybe a combination.) We got the meatball appetizer (3 of them) which happened to be half off for national meatball day?! My wife got the Eggplant Parm which was huge and very good - nice crunch to the eggplant breading. I had a spicy sausage marinara dish with pasta (not sure the name). It was perfectly spiced but not overly hot. It could use a touch more sausage which I would add next time (waitress offered). They have great craft beer on tap and their food prices are much cheaper than I would expect for such a nice place and great food. We wish they had one of these in our town - 100x better than olive garden and probably a little less expensive. If this was in a big city they could charge twice as much, easily. read more

We went here with some friends last weekend to celebrate a birthday. I'll start by saying the servers and service we received was fantastic. I wish I could remember both ladies' names. The bread before dinner was great, but it only came with one small cup of butter- I'd suggest two, but we asked for another and it was brought out immediately, so no harm there. My wife and one member of our guest party both got lasagna and raves on how delicious it was. I tried my wife's and agreed readily. The other member of the second party got chicken parmigiana and he obliterated that plate within 5-7 minutes, so I have to believe it was second to none. As for myself, Italian is my favorite food. That doesn't mean I'm extra harsh, but it does mean I've had an insane amount of Italian food from all over the world, and my favorite would have to be Fettuccini Alfredo with grilled chicken. If the restaurant offered portobello mushrooms as an add-on I'll take it every time. My wife ordered for me (knowing what I'd order anyway) in my late arrival, so there were no mushrooms as the wife won't deviate from menu as she sees it as inconveniencing the servers (it's all good), but I have to say in all honesty- the chicken was very very tender (you're welcome for not using the M word), but for some odd reason it had the flavor of rubber- honestly! Secondly, the Alfredo sauce I thought was bland, and didn't really taste like Alfredo sauce, so I was disappointed. However, others rave about it, so you'll have to try it yourself.
