We had two trips to MB Jewelers. The first time we just wandered in after visiting a few other stores. We met with a woman (I believe one of the owners) and she showed us a variety of rings with no pressure, no sales job, just sharing information with us about the rings, their business, and what we were looking for. The second time we went back, we were certain we'd start at MB and hopefully find our rings. Mike was there the second time and with him, we purchased the engagement ring and both wedding rings. To sum it up Mike is awesome! Going to him is sort of a tradition amongst my friends who are going to pop the question. He has great prices, great products, is very informative, and doesn't feel the need to up sell anything. I definitely shopped around when I got the ring and had a pretty good idea of what my fiancee wanted when I went to Mike. Even with all that information Mike was still able to impress me with his knowledge, expertise, and prices. He took the idea I had in my head of a ring and designed it on the computer plus tweaked it a little bit with his own style and it turned out awesome. Don't get me wrong, just because they're in the jewelry district doesn't make MB the Walmart of jewelry. He makes a great quality product at a price that can't be beat! Do yourself a favor and go to a Robbins Bros, Zales, etc. before you go to Mike and get all the details. Figure out the type of ring, 4Cs of the diamond you want, type of metal, etc then get their price. My fiancé initially wanted to work with MB because he felt he would get a better deal with them than going the retail route, and after shopping around quite a bit we know that he most certainly did. We also know we paid a very fair price for our wedding bands. This was my 1st experience purchasing a diamond of substance. The customer service is second to none. They were so helpful and did not make me feel uncomfortable about my lack of knowledge as I was an "overnight internet expert" on diamonds. When I went to MB, Mike was casual and disarming which was very comforting despite the fact he is in the "big" building in the diamond district. So many of the other vendors made me feel like they were taking advantage of my lack of knowledge and tried to "wow" me with over whelming information and other goodies. After wondering around and visiting many vendors I happened upon Mike's showroom/workshop. After just a few min I realized he was trying to get me the ring I wanted and could afford. I was the customer that was being helped when Ryan P. (the only person who rated them 1 star) brought in his bracelet. In his revisionist historical retelling of what happened, he seemed to exclude some important details of what really occurred. Here is what really happened: The lady (Reem) who, by the way, has been extremely patient, knowledgeable, and helpful to me while I ask endless questions about the engagement ring I am shopping for, greeted Ryan as he walked in, and asked him to wait while Michael (the co-owner and jewelry designer) answered my litany of questions. Michael then goes over to help Ryan (after about 10 minutes, not 15, which isn't that large a difference, but it is not unreasonable to have to wait a bit at a small shop), who pulls out a bracelet and asks that it be shortened. Michael explains to Ryan (in the most diplomatic and polite way possible) that due to the fact that the bracelet he brought in is of a more... consumer level quality... he is not comfortable working on it because he is afraid that the bracelet will not hold up to modification, and Michael does not want to take responsibility for it if it were to be damaged. He was very respectful, friendly and in no way condescending. At this point Ryan grabs his bracelet back, and storms out of the shop grumbling about how he "blah blah thought this was a GOOD jewelry store blah blah". I witnessed the whole exchange. At no point was Michael or Reem rude, condescending or unpleasant. Michael simply said that he wasn't comfortable working on Ryan's jewelry. Apparently, Ryan does not like to be told "no" and threw a tantrum when he heard it, then proceeded to negatively review this stellar jeweler. It is unfortunate that one poorly behaved individual can sully the otherwise perfect reviews of a truly outstanding small business. Reem and Michael are incredibly helpful, even when they knew I wasn't planning on making a purchase, and really know a lot about jewelry. I have already recommended them to my father, and on my several visits have heard other customers compliment them on how pleasant the shopping experience was. I don't know what Ryan was referring to when he accuses them of "profiling" their customers as I have seen them deal with a very wide range (ethnicity, age, gender) of customers who were all treated with the utmost respect. Please don't allow one bitter and unpleasant person's negative review rob you of an outstanding shopping experience. After searching for the perfect wedding band for my fiance all day in Downtown, MB was one of our last stops. My fiance saw a really neat wedding band there that we had not seen anywhere else, not even on the internet. He thought about it for a week, so we went back and ordered it in his size. We got to pick it up the next week, and the band came out beautiful, even more so than the one we looked at in the case. He picked out a beautiful big white gold band, and for a size 14 and the price of gold these days, I felt the band was reasonably priced. They had such a great selection of men's wedding bands that didn't look like the rest we had seen that day. I felt really comfortable inside because the store is in a big building, security watching cameras, and you need to ring a doorbell to get in. I like that option while in Los Angeles!
