Decided to try bidding in an auction. Since i have only once (back in the early 70's) gone to an auction...and (managed to bid against my husband!),because of our "stay-at-home" edict placed on the population of CA-decided to give it another shot. Saw a sweet little Lalique "Happy Cat" up for sale, decided that i have at least two people who are very much cat lovers that would love owning it and made that my "ease into" the auction game. The people at Mroczek Bros. were very helpful and patient with me, and made the process easy. i was the winning bid (!), they did a wonderful job of shipping it with a lot of protection, and arrived in perfect condition!! i had done some research into Lalique and when it arrived i can say without any hesitation it was 100% Lalique and not a blemish on the item. i have it stashed away as a very special gift and i know it will be much loved by whomever is the lucky person that gets it! not easy to do business with....exorbitant charges for payments other than bank transfers ....(which can cost the buyer about an extra $35)...have to arrange your own shipping...not worth my time and efforts. They operate trough the 'INVALUABLE' site, whose 'PAY NOW' feature has been inoperable for some time... read more

re: Auction Probably one of the few places that has public auctions regularly during the weekdays evenings. They usually have something for everyone. Unless you can get their a few hours early for preview purposes, it's really tough to make it down there in the evenings due to I-405 traffic. Sometimes they have online bidding at their public auctions, but generally they don't. Old school! They sometimes hold auctions at the estate, but those are rare. read more

I was VERY disappointed in the results of the auction of artwork. The art was by known artists and the return price would have been higher if they were sold in a yard sale. Never again! This was not the expected result by an established auction house. I have sold and bought things in auctions elsewhere and should have guessed this would be the expected result as the customer service was marginal at best. RM read more

This Auction Team is one of a Kind! A great Family Business. Auctions themselves are fun to attend, bid at or just even learn! Who knew a small piece of pottery would be 20k. Poor customer service. Just this month, I emailed the business several times inquiring about an item that they had on auction, I never heard back from them. So I called to see if someone could answer my questions.The person that answers the phone (judging by the voice, a mature woman), knows nothing. She told me that the only person that would know was Larry and he wasn't in. I asked what time would he be returning, she said before closing as if I knew what time they close. She could have asked my information to pass it on to Larry, but that never happened. I called the following day the same senior woman answered, I got the same results. I gave up after that. This place customer service is not on the same level with Pacific Galleries. PacGal Auction house have excellent customer service. read more

Always impressed with the knowledge and professionalism of the staff here. They always have a nice variety of items at the auctions. I been going to this auction for years , still having a great time , I'm even making money as I'm finding great deals on antiques and other great item's . Found a great bunch of photo's that I sold to another dealer for 5 times what i paid for them , that was fun. read more

My review is from the perspective of having had an estate liquidated by MBA. They were very professional, diligent, and extremely knowledgeable. I consider myself fairly well educated about antiques, but MBA found some nice surprises in my relative's estate that I would have missed. You can feel safe in trusting them with your consignments. read more

I cannot recommend this auction house. They do not respond to multiple emails or forms filled out online for absentee bids. I guess they have enough in person business they can ignore the absentee bids placed online. Not everyone can make the preview times or auction times due to work, location, etc. This is likely why they offer absentee bids but it appears this part of their operation is broken or they just don't care about someone trying to give them money. I wouldn't recommend this auction house to anyone who isn't local and able to personally inspect their merchandise before bidding. I purchased a bronze sculpture from MBA through Live Auctioneers, and was disappointed both with the accuracy of the lot description and the customer service. Long story short, the base of the sculpture was damaged - damage which had to have been known by MBA - yet MBA's lot description actually stated that the lot was in "excellent condition." A little more perplexing is why MBA refused to inform Live Auctioneers that the item was paid for and the transaction completed. 8 months after the sale and delivery of the item, my Live Auctioneers account still shows "Payment Due" despite messages from me to MBA requesting that they correct the record. Live Auctioneers customer service also has messaged MBA requesting (to no avail) that they remove the payable from my account. MBA has provided no explanation whatsoever. If you're a masochist, this is the auction house for you. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and steer clear. read more

I contacted this auction house to notify them I would be out of the country when three auctions ended, so I could arrange for payment during my absence. Gave 'Judy' at MBA all my credit card info, date I would return from vacation. Received notification via email from MBA that I won two auctions. Upon return from vacation, I had two voicemails from them, stating I had an open invoice. When I called immediately and referred to the auction number, I was rudely asked, 'what about it?'. Was passed over to 'Judy', who rudely told me since I hadn't contacted them, they sold my items to someone else, but one auction item was still available. She made me give my credit card information again for the one auction. She insisted that I had done something wrong and that was the reason they sold my items to another buyer. MBA even filed a dispute against me. I explained the facts to her, but she would not budge her opinion, so I ended the conversation. She shortly called me back, admitting the mistake was theirs, 'a clerical error' and that ALL of my auction wins had been sold to other buyers. She told me she had reversed the dispute, indicating that I should feel lucky they did so, and would issue a credit for the charge for the one item she had said they didn't sell, but did. They are rude, arrogant, and unprofessional. read more
