We just moved into a house with a pool and tried using McCarthy to make sure it was in good working order. They are impossible to connect with and do not return calls. Someone came out to look at the equipment and said it was loud but fine (it died two days later) and over chlorinated the pool. Calls to their service department to get a new motor and get it repaired have been unanswered since last week. Finally called a different company recommended by a neighbor and was called back in 15 minutes and someone is coming to check things out later today. Horrible business, will not recommend to anyone. read more

After a recent storm, we suffered damage to our pool cover and liner. We tried to work with McCarthy to get quotes on those items. We had questions about quotes and moving forward, and could not get anyone to return a call - they wanted to do all the business via email. We told them we needed a call for them to get our business, and sure enough we finally got a call from Patrick. And Patrick quickly told us he didn't appreciate our email, that he had plenty of work through next year and that this was going to be a short call. And he was right, we hung up on him. Turns out Central Pools, Crystal Pool and Spa and others were less expensive and more responsive. We'll never recommend McCarthy. We had heard through friends that they were difficult to deal with , and they were right. Take your business elsewhere read more

Went back again twice and both times I was helped by friendly knowledgeable staff. I got what I needed right a way and was told what to do in plain good old fashion understandable make sense directions! No fuss. Our pool is looking good. Phew! read more

I recently moved into a new home and it has an in-ground pool. This is my first experience with a pool so I called a number of places for quotes to open my pool. Mccarthy had a reasonable quote, but more important the guy on the phone was a lot nicer then the other pool places I called. When the guys came out to open my pool they were extremely nice. They walked me through all the steps to opening and maintaing a pool and happily answered my many questions. What I like most about these guys was they didn't try to up sell me on products. I told them many times I was new to the pool thing and asked what I would need to purchase. Some of the other pool places made it seem like I was going to need to be giving the pool constant attention and continuing to add chemicals. One of the guys on there staff shook his head and told me not to believe any of that. Basically keep it clean, add chlorine tablets when necessary and bring them a water sample every 2 weeks. Other than that, he said enjoy. I would recommend this company to anyone looking for an honest crew with fair pricing. read more

Do not use them for service. They installed a pool for me 5 years ago. One of my LED lights burned out. I asked them to replace it when they closed my pool last year and paid them half up front. I never received a bill for the remaining balance. When I called to ask about the balance, I was told they were unable to replace it and that they would need to dig up the patio around the pool to replace it! I called another pool company this spring and they replaced it without any difficulty WITHOUT digging up my patio! McCarthy is dishonest and should not be trusted! read more

Honestly, my review is very similar to others left. McCarthy was not responsive, and was unhelpful. I attempted to reach out to this company since they installed the pool at my new home for the previous owners. After weeks of calls, and also going in person, I had someone come out to my pool. When they came here, they denied it even being their work because of the poor quality. They accused me of hiring someone cheap to do the repairs and now they have to fix those mistakes. They didn't realize I had just recently purchased the home, and I then showed them the paper working signed by McCarthy Pool on everything that was done for the old owner. They then tried to tell me my paper work must have been wrong. They are dishonest, and it was a very disappointing experience. I had heard poor reviews about them before seeking them out, but wanted to give them a chance since the previous owner had recently used them. Luckily my neighbors recommended a different local company, and I'm grateful I listened and have switch to the local business which has been wonderful. read more

My parents, now in their 70's have had their pool since 1971. 43 years. They have used McCarthy pool over the years for many services they offer. Last week, they called McCarthy Pool as they have a leak in one of their lines. McCarthy said they wouldn't help, or repair (a paid repair) as they didn't install the pool. Who knows who installed the pool, McCarthy has been in business since 1959, it may have been them. The pool was there when they purchased their house in 1973. They turned away a customer wanted a pool repair as they "only work on pools they installed". Do you really think their computer system would have records back to 1971? Avoid them, if they didn't install your pool, they won't help. They don't deserve your pool supply business. read more

We inherited our salt water pool when we bought our house, and were recommended to use Mc Carthy Pools for opening and closing. So McCarthy came and opened the pool, and we told them we were new, and would like them to tell us do's and don't for proper maintenance. So far so good. Then they came for closing. The technicians were nice. But, when we opened the pool next summer, there was major winter damage. MAJOR. The entire lining was gone. The water had leaked and emptied out of the pool and it was beyond repair. McCarthy, of course, could not be bothered. Not only they completely refused to take any responsibility whatsoever, what was worse was that they handed us a bill for fixing it that was almost double of what others were asking, that too for an inferior product, and were arrogant and rude when we requested a price match. That was two years ago. We went to Central Pools and they were super nice and at 60% of the price, they did a spectacular job and even closed the pool for free. Why am I writing now? Well, I called McCarthy Pools two days ago by mistake - mixed up the number with Central Pools - and left a voicemail requesting a Pool opening. And I got a call from some guy who was offensive and rude, and told us they would not open the pool for us, because they had 'too much trouble'. Too much trouble? REALLY? Our pool is ruined AFTER you close it (do not even try to find the reason behind the extensive damage), don't take responsibility, show no empathy, extend no help, want to charge an exorbitant sum to fix it, and sulk when we take our business to someone else, and make rude phone calls refusing service two years later and YOU had trouble? You sir, will never ever have our business again. We would rather learn to open and close our pool on our own than have you service it. McCarthy is a rip off, rude, and offensive. I agreed with what others have said. As far as my expirience. They have a damn good "Closer" a real YES man very "friendly" once you pay you get rude arrogant sevice people who do not do what they say they will. They charge substantially more than other people to open and close your pool and they have these kids that don't seem to know what they are doing. Most recently something that was supposed to be sent a month and a half ago ( I had said please help me make my life easier I had a lot of stuff going on and really just needed some help me) they assured me they would send it. I realize over a month later they never sent it! I called and let them know how upsetting it is to have someone tell me they will do something and then not follow through.. So they made it up to me by CHARGING me for shipping!! That's the kind of customer service you get. They make a mistake and do not do anything to try to make it right they could have said hey "our bad we won't charge you for shipping.... ".... Nope They installed our pool and we pay nearly $1,000 dollars a year for opening and it closing means nothing to them!! ! Done! No more, I would use anyone but them for service. read more

McCarthy came to us highly recommended by two families we know. I don't think I've had a better customer service experience. Patrick at McCarthy was fantastic to work with - as was his team. A pool installation is a huge project and we went into it eyes wide open expecting there to be some issues along the way. There were hardly any and when things did arise, the service was exceptional. McCarthy Pools simply stated, executed above and beyond my expectations and I expect allot. Last June, my wife and I started shopping around for in ground pool installers. We did our homework by inviting the usual suspects to our home to view the landscape and provide quotes. We checked with a multitude of pool owners in our town and surrounding towns to collect feedback form their experiences. In the end it came down to two companies and McCarthy was the more expensive but not by much. Based on feedback and the small cost difference we decided to go with McCarthy and I can honestly say it was well worth it and here's why. - From day one, we ran issues with sever ledge. McCarthy spent multiple days probing different portions of the property to identify the optimal location to locate the pool To minimize my ledge removal costs. They prioritized their customer and reputation over profit. - When I did need to eventually bring in another company to remove ledge, they coordinated the efforts and managed the actual work with their company reps on-site. By doing so they minimized the time to remove the ledge and ultimately my out of pocket costs. - The pool installation was seamless and matched my exact expectations to a T. Part of this was because of my own determination to be on-site for every waking moment of the install but to go along with that because the foreman ASKED me for my preferences after explaining all options. - After a year of use that McCarthy still answers every question I have with a sense of urgency and attention to detail. We most recently installed the decking and McCarthy opened and preped the pool in April (in new england mind you) so they would not gate the decking install. They pointed us to a company who did superb work and during the decking install the company installing the concrete asked me for the couplings to mount the later which I did not have. I called McCarthy and one of their reps drove about 20 minutes to meet me half way so I could get them installed in the setting concrete. - Last I will comment on the sales guy. This guy gave me his cell phone number for which I can honestly say I felt bad when he did because I knew he'd be getting a few thousand phone calls from me during this year and a half venture. When I say that he either answered or returned everyone of my calls same day.... I mean it literally. The cost of a pool is high, I will not suger coat that.... However if your ready to move forward and want to get the best value for your money...McCarthy will not let you down. read more

We have used MCarthy pools for about 30 years. This company has been in business longer than that. It is successful because it is run with integrity and honesty. Pools can be wonderful and bring great joy to the household members. They can also be frustrating and overwhelming when they need repair or extra care, which is usually a small fraction of the time. We have experienced both ranges of emotions (of course because we have owed a pool in New England for over 30 years)! MCarthy Pools has always been there for us. Called them three weeks ago for a service on pool, was promised that "we'll be out some day in the next two weeks" - not a problem for us at the time. Two weeks came and went - no service. Called again and was told that "we need to send you an estimate first", look for it in the mail. I replied that I did not need an estimate. I was told "We have to send an estimate". So I gave them my fax number and my postal address - and waited another week. No reply. I called again today and was told that "We need to send you an estimate". I (again) said, "No, I do not want an estimate, Please just fix the pool." The guy at McCarthy said that he knows how I feel? So I said, "If you MUST send an estimate, can you please tell me if it will be by fax or mail?" - and the reply was "Oh, you'll know when you get it". Worst service department I've encountered in many, many years. For the record, I am a service manager in another industry. No one should have to put up with this low level of service. read more

Said they would contact me later in the day to provide an estimate. 5 days later and still nothing. We even tried calling them twice during the past 5 days. I would not recommend. read more

The sales process was top notch. Unfortunately, once the pool is in the ground you are on your own. Little to no instruction on how to manage mechanics... Opening & closing the pool is a little pricier then others, but I thought having the company that put the pool in would be beneficial so they could fix any immediate problems. These people are the worst. McCarthy Pools was recommended to us by the previous owner of our house and pool. We were loyal customers for a year, driving many miles out of our way to purchase from them. This year, we purchased a solar pool cover and reel from them. The reel is insufficient for our pool. All the salesman could say for McCarthy was "this is what we recommend for your pool." Never was a larger, more substantial reel offered as an option. We were shocked to later find the insufficient reel online at half the price! So not only are they incompetent, but they are price gouging. They do not even deserve 1 star. read more

We had our pool installed by them about 5 years ago - they did a fantastic job, and have been reliable ever since with assistance. I choose them to do our pool, as they did the pool at my parents house when I was young - over 20 years ago! Always great service, and they stand by their products. There customer service has gone WAY downhill...I had an issue a few weeks ago..they came out and replaced an $850 piece with out calling me or telling me, it needed replacement, they just went ahead and did it. There is a huge lack of communication between the "store" and the service dept. I have never been treated so rudely by a service dept. He was actually yelling at me on the phone. RUDE. no thank you. have them install your pool but if you need service after your pool is installed, be prepared to pay huge $$$ and be treated likje you are 6. read more

We had our pool installed by McCarthy Pools last year. The salesman was professional and attentive during the initial process, answering all our questions. On the day the crew arrived to dig, he disappeared and we didn't see or hear from him again until it was time to try to sell us something else. The installation went fine and overall the process went smoothly. We were a bit put off that our simple request to leave a pile of topsoil was not honored and the workers left empty water and soda bottles strewn about our property, but didn't let these issues ruin our overall experience. When the time came to close the pool after the first season, we hired McCarthy to close it. The technician who performed the closing seemed as though he couldn't be bothered answering my questions. When I inquired about how the closing was done, he quickly rattled through what he did and hurried off to his truck. The salesman had re-emerged as he wanted to sell me an expensive loop lock cover. He offered to give me a quote, which was too much for us at the time. When I said perhaps next year we'd purchase one, he said they'd loan me a cover. Great, or so I thought. Imagine my surprise when the $320 closing price ballooned to $550 when the bill arrived. In addition to being charged parts needed to close the pool that had already been supplied to me in the purchase price of the pool and had been in the pool shed all year, I was charged a $200 deposit for the "loaner" cover. I called the office and was told that I could apply the $200 toward the price of a loop lock cover. I stated that I wasn't sure that I wanted one. I was told the salesman would contact me. I heard nothing. I paid them for the cost of the pool closing and included a letter stating that I would return their cover to them if I was going to be charged for it, for i certainly can purchase a cover for less than that. I continued to receive bills for the "loaner" cover, now with interest. Frustrated, I sent a check for $0.00 to them in payment for their "loan". I finally got their attention. The salesman called inquiring why I sent a $0 check, they never got one before. I replied that I'd never been billed for something I was told was being loaned to me. Long story short, Mr salesman, sounding quite irritated, stated he'd take "partial responsibility" for the misunderstanding. Huh? I guess I was supposed to ask the right questions to learn what I would be charged for something being loaned to me. My phone call and letter weren't enough to alert them of my concern with the $200 charge. I was left with the feeling that he only wanted to sell me something and really had no desire to provide a quality service. This process could have been handled much better, in my opinion.
