I booked a lunch workshop in estate planning with Jennifer Venable and got hostess donuts, juice and a mini water bottle (not lunch) but it was at their Beaumont office and she had a Power Point presentation and so I took notes and asked questions. It was embarrassing how much she needed clients and we were not impressed. The marketing person who specifically sent out welcoming LGBT promos was present. When we decided to get an estate plan with a Trust, she met with us, and took notes on our family situation. The follow up meeting we expected to have Trust documents to sign, but the lawyer had a staff member who was an inexperienced notary to have us sign our papers property into a Trust. I mentioned that the Trust does not exist yet, and he said he'd ask Ms. Venable. She came into the office late and talking about travel plans. She told the staff member to file what we'd signed with the county clerk recorder. She did not have our documents or the notes she'd taken. She called us the wrong names and seemed distracted. She told us we'd get the whole thing done in a week or so. When we got home, the encounter bothered me. I worried the property would be transferred into a Trust that did not exist. I called the office and asked to speak to the attorney. They gave me an office staff member who listened to me as I explained my concerns. He left a message for Jennifer Venable. Sure enough, my worst fears were realized when I looked up the filing and got the recorders stamped paperwork back that our houses were put into the name of a Trust we'd chosen that was never formed! I had to pay another law firm in another city to fix this error and Mrs. Venable paid us a refund only after I sent a certified complaint letter. It was months and months of anxiety and stress I did not need. The other law firm could not believe how bad she had messed this up. We could have really been in trouble, even lost our home over this error so we were very upset. Don't get me started on how rude her staffers were to us because we are LGBT. The marketer does not even work with their firm anymore if that tells you anything. I would never trust my families security and estate planning to these people. There are boxes of very personal documents stacked in their back conference room with names on them. At any time anybody could read through them or even remove them from premices. It was unacceptable how files are stored. Now let's see how long this review stays up. If Yelp has any integrity they will believe me, as I am an elite reviewer after all. Please guys, believe me when I say this law firm is disorganized, biased, classist, and careless with people's information and property.

We contacted the office regarding a legal matter and were relaying information that had previously been provided to us by Kirk Tarman. We were simply trying to obtain further clarification and better understand some of the information we had received. During the conversation, however, Linda seemed to quickly lose patience with our questions. Her tone abruptly shifted, and she ultimately informed us that the office would not be taking our case. To be very clear, the rejection of our case is NOT the issue here. A law firm has every right to determine which cases it chooses to accept, and we completely respect that decision. Our disappointment stems from Linda's hostile demeanor and the way she handled the conversation leading up to that decision. When someone contacts a law office regarding a potentially stressful legal situation, professionalism, patience, and respectful communication matter. Intake staff often represent a prospective client's first impression of a firm, and unfortunately, this interaction reflected very poorly on the Law Offices of Kirk Tarman! In retrospect, we're actually thankful this interaction occurred before we invested additional time and money into retaining the firm's services. If asking reasonable questions during the initial stages could result in such an abrupt change in tone and demeanor, it left us concerned about how future questions or case-related inquiries might have been handled had we become clients. No client should feel as though they need to walk on eggshells when communicating with the people handling an important legal matter!!
