Abigail’s Bakery and Cafe - Breakfast sandwich on croissant

Cute local bakery and coffee shop near the bridge in Henniker. Parking is mostly on street but…read morethere are a few spots next to the building. They sell fresh baked, sliced bread on your left as you enter, between a cold beverages cooler and local newspapers for sale. Cashier is straight ahead. A display case under the counter offered a variety of donuts, bagels, muffins and other treats. A coffee station is at the end of the counter, on the way to the restroom (which is very clean). On our first visit, a Friday morning, we dined in on breakfast sandwiches. There was a short line to order, most of which was take away. My breakfast sandwich was egg, turkey bacon and cheese (I think swiss) on a croissant. It was a very tasty sandwich. My SO had egg, bacon & cheese on a plain bagel. He ate it pretty quickly so I'm thinking it was good. On this first visit I ordered a medium Americano. It has a bit of an espresso bite and was a good strength. They left room in the cup for milk which is available at the coffee station along w/half & half, flavor shots, sweeteners, paper cup holders and lids. Coffee beverages include latte, cappuccino, espresso shots and more. Milk alternatives are available for an additional charge. Our second visit, a Saturday, there was a line to the door. We both ordered medium drip coffees. We were given paper cups and filled them ourselves from the vacuum pump dispensers at the coffee station. This day had regular, decaf, french vanilla, hazelnut and maple coffee varieties. The coffee was a good temperature to drink right away and had a smooth finish. Very good. Third visit, a Sunday, the line to order was out the door. We had a long drive and were anxious to be on the road and decided to just stop along the way. We should have waited. This coffee is far superior to what we ended up with. Don't be like us. It's worth a wait.

This review is for my wife, who doesn't go on Yelp. . . . But I do…read more This is her review. Service, Service, Service! I tried them twice, bad both times. Day One, I went in and ordered a bacon egg & cheese sandwich. I asked if I could substitute avocado for the cheese. They said no as the avocado is more expensive. I get it, no big deal. I ask for a bacon egg sandwich (no cheese). They take my order along with my coffee and such and I go about my business. I go back to my Air bnb and lo and behold it's an egg only sandwich. I chalk it up to talking about avocados more than I do their listening skills and I move on. Day Two, I go in to give them a second chance. I order a Harvest Bowl & 2 coffees. I pay in cash. I get my cups, fill up my coffees and wait. After a few minutes, I realize that several people have come in, ordered, served and left in front of me. I go up to the counter and ask about my order and find out it was never put in. Because I paid in cash there was no trail. It's now well over 20 minutes and the person who took my order would not even lift her head to acknowledge that she served me. I call someone else over and ask about what to do and they treat me like I'm looking for a free meal. (FYI, visually I am a successful older female). Once they retook my order I quickly went next door to the jewelry shop as I had some time sensitive business there. When I returned, bowl still not ready, but was on the stove. While I was waiting I asked to speak with the manager. Suddenly nobody wanted to be the manager. Once someone came forward, I asked if this type of service was normal. I also asked if they compensate customers who have been ignored. He THEN HAD THE NERVE TO SAY, 'WELL, YOU'RE GETTING THE BOWL FOR FREE'! There were places I wanted him to put said compensation. Never, Never, NEVER say words like that to any customer. The sad part, the food is good. The place is cute. The customer service takes all that away and more. Caitlin, you have a good thing. Don't let your employees ruin it. When I mentioned your business in the jewelry store, they avoid your place too for the same reason.

Banana/strawberry and holy shit it was incredible!!! I. LOVED. IT!!! Damn it was good. I think it was like $12 tho? Am I crazy to think...meh, it's ok, (the price) I was on a holiday and you are supposed to enjoy whatever? haha!! I would normally never spend that much on a freaking smoothie! HOWEVER! Once we got into Manchester, VT....we saw another The Works Bakery...I SHO DID get another one lol. I was surprised to see that this place is a chain. When we were in Concord...it kind of felt like this was a place exclusive to Concord. Nah, it's not. Thats ok tho. I got a smoothie at a coffee house in just outside Bar Harbor and it was absolute garbage. So it was nice to have one where they actually have you what you ordered. Most places in Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire all allow dogs. I travel with my little Yorkie wherever I go. Alfred loves to travel haha! He is my child...seeing as I do not have any human kids. My dog is my life. So it's nice when you go into places and they welcome dogs. This place....does not tho. Thats boooo! HOWEVER! I TOTALLY understand! I TRULY do! I travel with my dog everywhere, but yes, I do realize this place is a restaurant and they all have their rules. I just love restaurants that allow dogs haha! I am not one of those psychos that will tear a place apart about not allowing dogs. I am one who actually respects policies like this. And yes, I bring my dog with me bc it's just me...and my dog. He is a 6lb Yorkie who I will never leave alone nor would I ever kennel him. I say all this bc so many people out there judge others who bring their dogs everywhere. He is a family member. He comes with me. Just go to this place wherever you run into one. It really is a great place. They were all SO nice in there even when they asked my take Alfie back outside. OH for the record too...I carry my little man everywhere with me. He's not like...running around everywhere...marking his territory lol Atmosphere in this location is very nice. Kinda dark and Lodgy feeling. Its nice. Located too in what I am assuming is a historic building. Noce view of the downtown area too if you take you lunch or whatever outside to their outdoor seating...which I am guessing is probably brought in now...seeing as it is almost December. Ok thats it. I know I rambled a lot here, but I feel it all fits with my review. I ramble a lot to begin with. If you read this...thank you! If you didn't...I will sleep in 5 mins and sleep like a baby :) Thank you The Works for a wonderful first experience. I live in Idaho. Wish we had you here. Thanks for reading YelperWorkers! Go have a smoothie! avocado toast! a bagel! you will love it! Cheers!

She's even asked before if I have flavor requests for the gf muffins. All of the staff is friendly, too. Beverage selection is great and they have fun seasonal latte flavors. Best draw of this place is the latte and chai flights! I've seen them other places for crazy expensive prices. The flights, like everything here, are very reasonably priced and a fun way to try different flavors. I've noticed in my time going here that they always keep up with trends, like adding lemonade flights and energy drinks. I don't usually order hot food, but I've loved the sandwiches I've tried. Like the drinks, they have quality ingredients and fun recipes. I've visited off hours and during rushes, and the staff is always prompt and organized. The atmosphere is great for hanging out and they keep close ties to the community, such as selling art and allowing by local businesses to display their business cards. I recently stopped buying coffee out to save money, but I'll absolutely this local business whenever I'm craving a treat.
