Pickup was good, delivery was the worst experience. I felt like I was robbed by them. Very bad.

AVOID WITH A PASSION. DO NOT *even* CONSIDER USING THE SERVICE…read more And if someone knows how to translate that into Spanish, please include it. Weekend drive to San Diego (to enjoy the weather and visit friends) turned into a nightmare last night. Took the morning bus from downtown L.A. to the border (friend lives in Imperial Beach) and my partner in crime forgets her camera on the bus after dropping us off. We talked to the local bus station attendant for Tres Estrellas, to see if it is on the bus. 20 minutes of calling back and forth and trying to get the driver to pick up his phone, and sure enough one of the passengers who stayed on the bus saw it, and took the camera to the driver. Driver had to make his round to TJ airport to drop off people, but he told the TJ station that he would hold on to the camera and drop it off. We even asked them to take a look at the last pictures (us bollowing) to confirm that was our camera. That was our fault, and we were thankful that it was found, but still wary of the possibility that we still might now see it. Oh ho no, senor, this negative and well-earned negative review comes from the time we come back from our outing, and the buses to go back to Los Angeles are completely packed. ***We come back at 9:30pm to catch the 10 pm bus, and that is full. Then they attendants tell us that the 11pm bus is also completely full. I only saw a room full of people, 20 strong. Crowded, but not a full bus. The real rage came up when they said that there would not be a 1am bus back to L.A. *Now I should say that this has been old reliable, after DECADES of going down to San Diego, enjoying the city and dragging my cute but tired butt back to LA - Not only do they not have a 1am bus, they can give no reason why they have no 1am bus. In the past when the bus broke down in TJ or there was some issue, Tres Estrellas would go to their back up bus and driver(s) to make sure people got to their destination, even if it was just 2 people going back from the border. - Not last night, and there were quite a few furious FAMILIES who wanted to speak to a manager and find out why they had been stranded. The late night staff didn't want to answer and had a "sh!t happens" attitude towards everyone. The late night bus would be returning the following day. Any issues that we had, well, here is our promotions card. Call the number in the morning when the offices are open and complain to them. - And they were not giving out refunds for the bus last night either, for the people who had to take other means of transport home. And I do mean OTHER means of transport. We had to hire a driver and got sardined in other people who were stranded by the duplitious Tres Estrellas service. So, in summary: - Company left families and my friend and I stranded - There were no back up buses or drivers like they normally have in case something goes wrong - Attitude from customer service station in San Ysidro by the attendant and manager on staff was "here is our corporate phone number. Call them in the morning. Go f! yourself. Have a nice day." - No refunds for people who had to find alternative means to get home. And best of all, my friends camera was never returned. They late night staff had no call log/message that the issue ever happened.

One star cannot speak of the horrors endured by dealing with this so called "business". It deserves…read morenegative stars, seriously. I'd previously used this bus line to go from downtown LA to the TJ airport. I'd called ahead to ask what their bus schedules were and the staff assured me that they had buses leaving every half hour. TOTAL LIE. Left about an hour late. However, since we'd left the house earlier than we needed to, still right on target to make it on time to airport. Until the bus driver makes a pit stop to drop off his girlfriend, who was one the bus, near her parked car. When the driver sees that his girlfriend's car doesn't start, he gets off and even enlists some of the passengers to go help him thus making us even later! The rest of the ride was spent checking the time praying that we'd make it on time becuase our tickets were non-refundable. You would have thought this nerve wracking experience would have taught us a lesson but oh no. This year since we didn't have a ride from the TJ airport to LA, we decided to take the bus. This was the only bus line available. Since the previous experience happened a few years ago, and it was mainly the bus driver's fault, we thought we'd give them another chance. BAD, BAD, BAD IDEA. Went to the booth, paid for our ticket, and settled down into our seats. A woman came onboard and explained that we would have to cross the border via the pedestrian walkway. People on buses were not allowed. Never said anything about having to reserve seats for the seats we'd already paid for but I'll get to that. Crossed the border fairly quickly, and found the business were we had to wait for the bus to pass border inspection. A half hour goes by. Then an hour. Angry customers are beginning to ask why the bus hasn't arrived. Over an hour later the bus gets there. Finally! But wait there's more! We aren't allowed on the bus. Why? Because apparently after we crossed the border we had to reserve our seats in their office. Seats that we had already paid for. Not only is this practice ridiculous, but NO ONE mentioned it. After another half hour wait, another bus arrives and we get on. Driving along the freeway the rickety bus breaks down near San Clemente. On the side of the freeway. In the hot sun with no air conditioning. And no water. We wait a half hour until a border patrol officer sees the bus and tows it to a truck weighing station. The driver calls in for another bus, and the border patrol agents are nice enough to give us water. And then we wait, and wait, and wait. The bus driver kept telling us that the company told him that a bus would be there in 20 min. Complete bullshit. I spoke to a border patrol officer who told me that the driver told him that a bus would be there in 2 hours. Didn't even have the decency to level with us. All in all we waited FOUR hours. We weren't even two hours away from the departure point. Meaning that they didn't even bother dispatching a bus right away. But hey why would they? They already had our money; they had to make sure they used their available buses to try to make as much money as they can. Everyone waiting kept calling the company to complain, and they all got told the same thing. A bus will be there in 20 min. Except we got told this for four hours. By the time the bus arrived (with people on it) it was already dark, and since they didn't bother sending an empty bus there wasn't enough room. Some passengers had stand up in the aisle. So not only did they make us wait four hours but they expected us to stand for the entire trip to LA. Unbelievable. STAY FAR, FAR AWAY.

I didn't know Greyhound contracted with other bus companies to provide service, not surprising in this challenging economy and transportation market. That's when I discovered their definition of "refund" is actually "voucher." Somehow, the money you paid them doesn't come back to you... it just stays with them indefinitely. A very convenient policy, if you're FlixBus. The catch is I never really planned to travel by bus in the first place, and I definitely don't now, so the voucher is essentially useless. I suspect that's part of the business model, issue credits that a good percentage of customers will never redeem. Maybe I missed the fine print when booking, but if your policy is "no refunds, ever," that should be front and center, not something you discover after the fact. At best it's unfriendly; at worst it feels deliberately opaque. End result: I'm out the money, holding a voucher I'll never use, and left with zero reason to consider this company again. One and done.
