Very good food. Plenty of room. Parking is a little difficult, especially handicapped.

9/9/26 We had visited McAlister's Deli a couple of times when we visited from Minnesota years ago…read more We moved to Independence two years ago, and tonight was our first return! It did NOT disappoint. They have a variety of breads, protein choices and accruements to embellish their sandwiches. SUPER tasty and GREAT plating makes their food mighty tempting. Vance, the young man who took our orders, was knowledgeable about selections and patient with we "newbies". The layout appears to be a "fast food joint". Nothing could be further from the truth. Genuine silverware with REAL "LIVE" PLATES, ROOMY, comfortable booths or table and chairs makes for a relaxing environment. Allowing for lingering and conversation with good friends. We will DEFINITELY be returning soon!

First day of a new job Lunch!…read more New to this side of town and stopped in here for a little comfort of something I recognized. The Atmosphere - Well it was clean and tidy. Again there is little personality to most locations these days yet the functionality and the ability to clean quickly is at a premium. But, there is little about the restaurant that is comfortable or memorable. So this gets the standard 3 stars. The Staff - I had the good fortune to interact with several of the staff members this time. And ALL of them were extremely nice, kind, and friendly. They went out of their way to check on me several times and remind me that I could get a refill on my drink. They gall at the checkout even offered to bring me the desert that I had on rewards that was set to expire soon. Some of the best Customer Service I have seen in a while. - 5 stars. The Food - Well this is the number one reason to swing in. They have a number of great creations and options to pick more than one. They do let you customize a sandwich should you want. I think this is as good as it gets (unless you head to a "real" deli where YOU decide what is on the sandwich. This visit I had the Pick 2 (which is common) where I had a fantastic Club sandwich and a Chef salad. Pretty healthy over all. (I used extra dressing and ate brookie bites so scratch the healthiness). 4 stars Overall - This was a fantastic visit to an old favorite. The food could have just a little more wow... and by now you all know how I feel about the clean/institutional look and feel of eateries. A perfect lunch space. I'll be back often as they are good, healthyish, and close.

The shop is small and there's not any seating (it's to go/take out only) but I was instantly greeted by the staff...and the large pastry case with tantalizing goodies. After inner dialogue that I indeed should not purchase one of everything due to potentials negative consequences on my waistline, I settled on 3 chocolate chip cannolis, one slice of lemon shortcake and one loaf of sourdough bread (don't worry, I shared). The cannolis were delicious and the shell was thicker and crisper than I'm used to. The lemon shortcake was not overly sweet, which was amazing and was very lemony (which I loved)! The sourdough was delicious and made perfect grilled cheeses! Although I didn't order any, they had a great selection of savory lunch items. Definitely next time! (A helpful hint - if you're trying to indulge in a cannoli on the way home in a vehicle, I suggest skipping the powdered sugar. The evidence was very hard to hide )

Great signage, walked in and wow bang the amount of different items to choose from really was something else. The place was decorated very nice and the people were just wonderfully wonderful! While I could not buy anything because I have a dairy allergy and gluten intolerant my stomach started aching and mouth started to water. It really smelled and looked that good to think about possibly worth getting sick over trying some of this. I will bring people to the bakery / deli so they can try it. My bet is it will be a hit for anyone who tries it. I wish I took pics of the food you would be amazed. The portion sizes they had on all their items were very nice and prices were not gourmet prices they were right on. now for me they said they do gluten free I just need dairy free as well. Most people who are dairy allergy end up being gluten free.. google it.. and most dairy free or gluten free baking packages usually have both. So for my sake I hope they can manage to do some from time to time which they said they would. till then those non allergy people - enjoy this place.

Though curiously, they do not have actual Sriracha sauce. They have some imitations, but not the real thing. All of the shelves are faced beautifully, and everything is well cared for. We have enjoyed many of the items we have purchased here and never had a problem. They have a good selection of wine, spirits, and beer, as well as groceries and other things. I would have to deduct a star because sometimes the workers are not very friendly, willing to help or, interested in improvements. One night we went there, and there was no usable toilet in the women's room, so my wife had to use the men's room. They were aware of it, and no one took any action.

And the bakery offers these outstanding cakes. 5" cakes and 8" cakes. The 5" are perfect for a small party and delicious. When I need a cake, this is my go-to place. In addition, McKeever has Tippins Pies. They have petifores and maccrons. We picked up a croissant, a scone, and a cheese danish in addition to the double mudslide cake. This is my go-to upscale grocer. I see that they offer online ordering and pick up. I am going to have to try that.

(Especially in this economy) While ordering online, be aware that the time it says on the ordering portal/site is not generally accurate. I, on multiple occasions, have ordered something with a specific pick up time selected (I left plenty of time, thirty minutes from when I ordered to when I wanted to pick it up) and the food still was not ready. Ex: ordered at 11:30 am, pick up time of 11:55-12:00, food was ready closer to 12:10 and I received the 'your food is ready text' at 12:45 pm. While this isn't a bad thing if you have time, if you're on a tight lunch schedule I'd look otherwise. This location is also a bit smaller than their Parkville location, so if it's crowded it's very noticeable and can get a little overwhelming. I do prefer the Platte City location to Parkville though, as their Parkville location doesn't do that good of a job when I order online (this may just be me but I have to take it into consideration). Overall, I do recommend it, just be aware that it is pricey, when packed it can get a little overwhelming, and be aware of how long you have to eat.

What really stood out right away was the service. The lady taking our orders was incredibly nice and personable, and she actually took the time to walk us through the menu to make sure we got exactly what we wanted. I went with the #5, which is their version of a Sicilian Muffuletta. It was phenomenal. It's stacked with mortadella, salami, provolone, ham, and Swiss cheese, topped perfectly with a red wine vinaigrette chopped olive salad, all sitting on a beautifully toasted seeded loaf. One of my friends ordered the #20 Reuben, and it was a masterpiece. We're talking melt-in-your-mouth Wagyu corned beef, legit sauerkraut from Brooklyn, house-made Russian dressing, and melty Swiss, all piled high between two buttery, toasted slices of marble rye bread. Naturally, I also grabbed a couple of their homemade chocolate chip cookies, and we got a raspberry and blueberry tiramisu that was absolutely terrific. You just can't leave a place like this without hitting the dessert menu! I consider myself very lucky to have experienced this spot. Honestly, if I lived in the area, I'd probably gain 50 lbs--and it would be worth every single ounce!
