I went here while I waited for my dogs teeth to be cleaned at the vet. It looked like a good place for a quick bite and I was right. The restaurant is easily accessible and there is plenty of parking. Rae's is located in a strip mall and there appeared to be significant amount of traffic. There weren't many people eating, just some regulars but it made for a peaceful dining experience. Plenty of breakfast options to choose from for a meal. I ordered a side pancake and the waitress gave me a look. She said "Honey, these are big!" I thanked her for the warning and told her I loved leftovers. lol The food was great and the pancakes were huge. Very satisfying and comforting food. Hit the spot on a cold January day. Wanted to check this place out since their move to Independence. Mr. G. And I went for breakfast and we were not disappointed. I ordered the Ultimate Breakfast. I don't usually like breakfast potatoes. I do now. The potatoes were bite sized, had the skins on them, were seasoned, but not hot. The potatoes were well cooked but not mushy had a crisp exterior. What I really enjoyed was my biscuit and Gravy. The Gravy was perfect. It had me thinking about how delish it was later in the week. There was enough food to take home fir a second meal. I just had lunch at Rae's Cafe and it was my first visit here. I just ordered the bacon cheeseburger and fries. Wow, it was delicious. The fries were really crispy and hot and the burger was huge and delicious. My buddy had chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and he said both were the best he has had at any restaurant around. Our waitress, shannon, was wonderful and we enjoyed her service very much. I will go back for her smile as much as for the food. read more

We came after going to an infrared sauna session. Hubs wanted breakfast and hey, breakfast is good at anytime of the day. We got there were greeted and seated immediately. Our waitstaff was very attentive. Hubs ordered an omelet and I had the chicken fried steak. Everything was tasty and well seasoned. My chicken fried steak was huge! Had to take most of it to go. Some of the wait staff can be very rude, but NEVER Dee, she's the best up there! Breakfast is my preferred meal there, the lunch items can be a bit on the bland/plain side. If you don't appreciate a giant Trump flag next to your table, avoid this restaurant. The politics weren't my cup of tea, but the service was attentive and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. The menu doesn't have much on the light or healthy side except for being able to substitute egg whites in the egg dishes for an up charge. I had the breakfast burrito. The amount of food was generous but the burrito was not seasoned as much as I would have liked. I wish they had given me more salsa to go with it. I prefer the breakfast burrito at Neighbors Cafe in Lee's Summit. The fried potatoes with onions were good. I would eat here again, but it wouldn't be my first choice. read more

Went to the cafe based on published hours but it was closed when we arrived. They need to update their hours on every venue that lists them.

Let's start with the good: A very pleasant server and declicious fried potatoes and onions. And now the rest- The $25 steak and egg breakfast was all but inedible. The steak wasn't just tough- it was riddled with gristle and sinew and I'm not sure what. I'd say less than 30% was edible and that only after laborious cutting and trimming. The scrambled eggs were overdone and tough. The toast was acceptable. And the bisuits and gravy had no sausage and no taste- just paste. For close to $50 with tip it was maybe the worst value of any meal I've ever eaten at a restuarant. We won't be back. Sad because we've heard good things about it Rae's. read more

The food was absolutely amazing. It was really good. After we finally got our food. It took forever cause they got a group of 25 before us. So kitchen staff apparently has bad management cause they did the table of 25 and said forget everyone after that. I feel like the communication could have been better. My biggest problem with this whole thing is. I had a table of 2. A table of four that came in and sat after we had already ordered got served before us. So it seems you need to now someone who works here to get good service. read more

When you first walk in you have to wait to get seated. When I went in we were second in line and got seated fairly quickly. We had to wait a while to order our drinks and food but it was busy so it was no problem for us. I got the BLT sandwich which was so good! The fries were crispy and very tasty. The sandwich had the perfect amount of everything, they definitely used fresh ingredients. My husband got the biscuits and gravy which was also delicious. The sweet tea was perfect, it didn't taste old and it had the perfect amount of sweetness. Once we were done eating we were given the bill which we had to walk up to the register and pay. My husband was paying while my daughter and I got to enjoy the ample space and seating that was provided in that area. read more

I've been here a handful of times since moving to the area, the food is good, fried chicken is the best! Each and every time though, one of the girls always gives me some sort of scowl and isn't welcoming at all, always on her phone too. Today she's wearing hoop earrings, glasses and a back for blood hoodie. She is so kind and cordial with other patrons, but for whatever reason I get the sour treatment, I usually eat alone, but even when I had my son with me last time I got the same sourness. I defy you to find better bacon anywhere else... cooked perfectly! The rest was good but the weakest part of the breakfast was definitely the gravy... think white gravy from a packet mix with a few pieces of sausage tossed in, not skillet made sausage gravy. This was our first visit here and before leaving we placed an order to go for another family member. Order was wrong, so when we called to bring it to their attention, the person answering the phone had Kelly return our call. My husband was explaining the error with our order and she gave a short "I'm sorry, things happen, not my fault and she was too busy to hear anymore" raising her voice in a very disrespectful manner. My husband handed me the phone and she was just as rude to me and hung up on me. Needless to say we were shocked at her manner handling the situation.
