The reason I chose to rate the course how I did was the greens were incredible and the shop said they were rolling at 10. The course layout seemed pretty straightforward mostly flat with a few trees. I got on as a single during the weekday so avoided people and traffic. It is a military base so it is best to get a visitation pass a day beforehand at visitor station by theto prevent any waits like I had to. I'm hoping to play again soon with fairways and rough to improve some but overall found the course to be good deal now that it is possible for the public to play with a pass of course. read more

The course is in terrible shape. There are many spots of either just dirt or dried grass or even swampiness!! The greens have dead spots on them. Some of it would be excuse able if it were due to the watering, but why are there then puddles in other places? Poor course maintenance!! Miramar golf course has cut back on customer service and course maintainence. They no longer have starters outside or course Marshals. The clubhouse recreation assistants are unfriendly. The course is unsupervised and disorderly. I have been playing there for at least 20 years and have not seen such poor management. This is by far one of the worst courses I've been too. I go there when I forget a tee time and know I can get on because management there is ass. I paid $100 for me and my civilian gf to play one of the worst course you could play and it took us almost 5 hours to play 18 with no Marshall there to keep the pace of play up. Honestly wasn't expecting too much from the course. Expecting it to be in rougher shape. But I was in great condition for what you pay. My buddy and I played here mid-day yesterday. It was very easy to book a same-day tee time and I called when the course opened to get his name on the reservation so he could go through the gate. In typical hack fashion, I showed up close to the tee time. I was lucky to have a vet ID that got me on post or I would have been very late. My buddy spent ~20 minutes at the visitors center. I got there first so I went in the shop to pay for both of us. The shop was very nice and well-stocked. The nice man at the desk that helped me was very understanding about me checking in 2 minutes before lol and it all worked out well. Paid $41 to walk on a Thursday afternoon. On first glance, the course was nice. It was well-maintained for a public course in San Diego in August. Fairways were nice but the rough was mostly dirt. And this is totally fine. The course itself is not hard. It has paralleling fairways so you basically cannot lose a ball. It is very flat and generally straightforward. The par 4s were pretty long and the 18th hole is 600+ from blues. It was very hot and humid and I was probably delerious by 15 so I regret walking but the round itself was a good experience. The greens are ridiculous. I mean that in a good way I think. But they were not good to my score lol. They are lightning fast and so pure. Get there early and roll some if you want because these do not resemble any other public course's greens in the area, from what I can tell. Something interesting was, for being so dang fast, the ball did not release at all. Any approach would stop right in its tracks even if it was bladed or a worm-burner. Same with chip shots. Literally just landed and stopped. But when you hit a putt the ball never stopped. This was quite a challenge and I loved it. Oh also the range looks nice. It is grass not mats. The food at the turn is Denny's which gave us a good laugh. Nicest Denny's I have ever seen and the drink selection is amazing. I am torn whether or not to come back. While the greens were awesome, the course itself was not so interesting. But it was a good challenge. You must play this at least once. Tips: 1. Get there early. You will probably get stuck at the gate and visitors center because you need a guest pass to get on post 2. Google Maps (in my experience) takes you to the wrong gate. I like this course located on base in Miramar! It has decent pricing to play and rent a golf cart with beautiful landscaping all around with some easier and more challenging with a mix of ponds and bunkers all around. Prior to playing I would say get some drinks from the Denny's which is right there next to the shop and they can give you some ice to keep your drinks chilled in your cart. I opted for Corona on my recent trip here... Mmmm perfect on the warm summer like day. With fantastic San Diego weather here nothing beats playing some golf here at MCAS Miramar. :) read more

Booked a tee-time using their online system as I've done in the past, for a Monday at noon. First tee-time at twilight rate of $36 per player plus $13 for a cart (also twilight rate). Received the confirmation email that showed the rate (see attached photo). Get there and they tell us that because daylight savings time kicked in yesterday, twilight is now 1pm. So now it's $41 plus $16 for cart each. Argued that we have the confirmation with the stated rate. Basically, told to go pound sand, nothing miss blondie could do. I don't expect Nordstrom service here, but I do expect to honor the posted rate! Keep that in mind next time you want to play this goat track. read more

Very simple golf course (fun to play if your an average golfer) with decent greens. The gentlemen in the club house though are terrible at their job. Every time I've been in there (which is about 12 times) it's like they have no idea what's going on. They act lost, I thought the first couple times that I went there that maybe they were having a bad day but it's the same every time. And the last time I went was the "icing on the cake". I took my 4 year old daughter with me to the golf course like I have this course on about 5 occasions. She's well behaved and loves going to the golf course. I showed up at 4 pm, after twilight I think their were maybe 12 golfers on the course and asked if I could play. They told me I couldn't play because my daughter has to be 7 years old, and she wasn't allowed on the course, no exceptions. Even though she's been there 5 times and had been there with me 3 days before. They said they might make an exception if there was another adult with us which is insulting to me as a parent and contradicting to what they had just told me. Now I understand rules are rules. But if you choose when you are going to and are not going to enforce the rules then that's an issue. I will probably play here again because it's convenient but not for a long while. read more

The military requires you get a guest pass at the visitor gate. Great value and players usually keep a pretty decent pace of play, averages about 4 hours. Carts are updated with screens for scores and distance remaining to the pin. Very open and forgiving as well. read more

One of their patrons hit a ball off of the course which broke my windshield as I drove on Miramar Road. The strike even leaft imprints of the golf ball pattern in the glass. They refused to take financial responsibility sending me down a rabbit hole of bureaucratic obstacles if I wanted to try and recover the cost of my Tahoe's windshield. read more

Miramar golf course is one of the best Marine courses I have ever played... The greens are done of the best in the San Diego area. The always roll true and hold shots nicely.. The layout is not super challenging but there are a few very interesting holes . I recommend you play here if you are in the area. read more

Played here yesterday for the first time ever. Being Government, we get good rates to play, can't beat 37 bucks with cart. Hardly any dry spots, so that was a huge plus. But like some other reviewers have noted, it was definitely drenched, pretty soggy on a lot of holes. Sometimes became an issue. It is pretty straight overall, but don't let that fool you for being easy. There are plenty of tough holes with trouble. Overall, I am sure I will play here again. read more

You really can't beat this course for the amount of money you're gonna spend on a round. Personally, it's close to my office so if I ever get a few free hours in the afternoon its the perfect spot to get in a quick 18 (I've never had to wait to tee off). The staff has always been friendly and I was actually lucky enough to get paired up with Ron who is a part time Marshall the last time I played. I honestly can't remember the last time I had such a good time playing solo. Partially because Ron is one of the nicest people I've ever met and partially because I shot a 76 haha I would definitely recommend this course if you have an ID to get on base and you're looking for an affordable course to get in a quick 18... What a complete dumpster fire of a golf course. Played yesterday. This course is easily now in my top 3 of worst courses in the the county. To say this course is in bad shape is an understatement. Absolute goat farm. I don't think they've had a lawn mower on the course in 2 mos. The rough was awful, the fairways were awful. I had heard from several people (including the starter who was the nicest thing about this place) that the greens were awesome. They're OK. I'm a member of the men's club at Balboa and the greens here are no where near as nice as Balboa's. And if your wondering I will take out Baker South and move this POS into it's spot of my top 3 horrible courses in the county, along with Cotton Wood and Riverwalk. Actually, I can't do that to Riverwalk. Riverwalk at least has nice greens and bunkers. So Miramar, Baker South and Cotton Wood are now my 3 least favorite courses in the county. read more

MCAS Miramar is a really good course for the straight long drive off the tee golfer who enjoys less challenging putts. I played on the weekend so I wasn't caught up with the aircraft noises or military operations, which I kinda enjoying being around on the course anyway. Still they might not give the relaxing atmosphere some golfers are looking for. The base is approximately 20min from downtown San Diego makes it a good stop for vacationing military and retirees. That said... Tee Times: Getting a weekend Tee Time can be a pain as they won't open up the times until the Thursday AM before the weekend (AD can start calling at 0600 and Retirees after 0700). I understand how this can prevent people from booking up the course but it makes it real hard for folks planning a vacation from out of town. I ended up getting through while going through security at the airport. Needless to say we got our tee time and had a wonderful day on the course. Clubhouse: One of the nicest clubhouses I've come across on military courses. Extremely well cared, loaded with good quality gear and friendly helpful staff. The restaurant is run by Denny's, which took me off guard but as it turns out was a great idea. This had to be the best military base course restaurant, food and service...that I can remember. They really need to give professional restaurateurs more opportunity to do this on other bases. Ranges: - Driving: The driving range is grass. Big plus for me as I can tee up at the height I play on the course. Matts don't always allow for this. I like that you can hit far distances on the range but they're not only clearly marked...or at least not for some with bad eyes, lol. I did like how the ball dispenser works off of dollars, which gives you approximately 17 balls per $1.00. - Putting: This practice area is quite large and maintained as well as the greens match the course making it one of the better ones I've used in prep for the course. Course: - Fairways: Straight, long, long and long. Don't expect to see a picturesque course like what's found on private courses and some Air Forces courses, lol, and you'll be more than pleased. The grass is maintained pretty dang well throughout the course with a few areas of thick growth paralleling the fairway. These areas may not look like much but they can really cut distance off your short on the shot should you be unluckily enough to digress from the fairway. There isn't any slope to contend with and only a couple water hazards. All the Tee Boxes are well maintained from the longest Blue shot in the county to woman's Red Tee area. - Greens: Moderate to large sized extremely well cared for with a fast speed and no dramatic breaks but the breaks it does have can turn a soft shot into a 2 putter. The apron surrounding the greens varies from slight height to think and not to forgiving for a long apron putt. - Bunkers/Sand Traps: The bunkers are fairly reasonable with only a few holes having a height that makes it extremely difficult to get out off the sand. That said one hole is a bunker nightmare. We all seemed to avoid it but painful if you get caught up in one of the many around the green, good luck. Overall: This is a really good course at a pretty good price, great price compared to the rest of the area. Taking everything into consideration, the flat long fairways and lack of slope on the putting greens I'm giving it 3.5 Stars and rounding down due to the pain on booking a Tee Time. However, I'll be back and I'm sure another day on the course will probably push it up to a 4 Star rating. More to follow... read more

If you want the to play on some of the truest greens in town, head to Miramar Memorial. The greens are wonderful....A++++++! The course is flat so this is a great course for new comers to the game. The fairways are a B minus, tee boxes are level and shaped towards the landing areas. Not too many surprises. The toughest holes on the course are 7, 8, 10, and 12. Playing this course in the morning is super easy. If you want a challenge, play this course around 1 PM. The wind picks up 10-20 mph and lengthens the course dramatically. They also boast a great practice area. Pitching area is free! The driving range is always off of nice turf and is 5 bucks for a large bucket of 100 balls approx. Mike Jones is the Assistant Pro and is extremely helpful, professional, and welcoming to the course. It is open to the public. A tee time must be made to get on base. read more

I played the front 9 there today. It was nice. Good fairways and greens. Pretty well kept. Some areas had water damage and a lot of debris from trees, but it seemed really well kept other than that. It's very flat and not much in the way of surprises, but enough to lose plenty of balls. It's only $22 for 9 or 18 holes for civilians and $5 for a pull cart or $9 for a golf cart. I only did 9 because I used a pull cart and it was pretty hot. There is no shade to speak of. There are water jugs every once in awhile, but you should bring your own because there are not enough of them and there's no one coming around with refreshments on this course. You may need a tee time in theory to get on base, but I have never had one in advance and the MP's never give me an issue when I tell them I am there to use the golf course. You must enter through the East gate and check in with the MP's. Seemed like a full stocked, nice pro shop although I didn't really look around. There's a restaurant and pool table too. At this price, it can't be beat. read more

I've been playing SD\Temecula golf for 14+ years now and not until recently had I played MCAS Miramar. I cant believe it took me this long to play here. I enjoy Admiral Baker North course & North Island NAS so I have a predilection for military courses. The course is not too difficult so I plan to bring my kids here when they begin learning the game I enjoy so much. The guy behind the clubhouse counter was very friendly. He was really the only staffer I came in contact with. I was playing at 10am on a weekday. The pace of play was excellent even though we were following walkers. I was embarrassed to be riding in a cart as this is a VERY walkable golf course. Bring your push cart. My favorite hole is #9. The 600+ yard par 5. I think it may be the longest in So Cal. I played from the back so I got to enjoy the length of this course. Quite frankly the length is really what makes this course even remotely difficult. It's a STRAIGHT and FLAT course with very few turns at all. The trees are mature and I was under them a few times but never felt like I was "out of the hole" because of them. Some holes have a little bit of water. The fairways had some patches of mismatched grass but this is a public course and quite frankly i see this condition on a lot of courses here in SD. An excellent value for a sub $50 green fee. I played with a buddy who was back for his third round. We will definitely be back. read more
