I have worked in construction my whole life. MCAS did a nice job in a timely and efficient manner. It came down to two comparable bids but I chose MCAS because it's a family run business and I could call Mike, the owner of the company, any time and he would answer. You also have to admire a roofer who breaks off and starts his own company. I have a soft spot for those with an entrepreneurial spirit, improving the US economy. Justine was also exceedingly pleasant to deal with. Responsiveness ranks as my top priority when dealing with large home projects and Justine get full marks, always getting back to me within minutes. They didn't try upsell me or talk me into any extras, they did exactly what I asked for in a quality manner and at a competative price. The crew was friendly and fast. I only had to do some minor yard clean up after they left, which I was happy to do considering the scope of their work. Mike pays them a good wage and that makes a difference in both attitude and craftsmanship. However, the high wage can backfire on the homeowner if additional work is involved. Inquire beforehand about their additional work rates. When I was surprised with the price of the additional work (they had to replace a rotted section of the roof), Mike was happy to explain the math behind the numbers and worked with me get the price down to an amount that I felt comfortable with. Be warned: NYS has very expensive insurance and companies like MCAS have large overhead costs to cover that are added into the price of additional work, so if you think they may uncover a lot of additional work, consider doing it yourself if you have the time. Regardless, Mike was pleasant and willing to work with me. Moreover, they were honest in the scope of additional work performed and did not magically find more or extrapolate. All this is something you can only get from a successful, family run business. A corporate company would never do that. I recommend MCAS. They get full marks on everything. read more

NEW STEEPLE EXTERIOR MCAS did a terrific job replacing the exterior of the steeple on our church. We are so pleased with their solution and it was a pleasure working with them. We don't know of any other company in the Westchester area that has the experience needed to perform this kind of work. The steeple, which dates from the original construction of the church in the 1970s, is made of plywood. The exterior had been coated with a thick, rubberized, highly water-resistant paint. Because it was only paint protecting the plywood from the elements, it required a new paint job every 6 or 7 years. And because the steeple is so high and hard to access, any painting had required either building scaffolding or renting a bucket truck. A rather expensive bit of upkeep. MCAS helped us analyze other easier-to-maintain options--either traditional shingles or metal sheathing. We decided on metal sheathing because 1) it would have a cleaner look and be more attractive, and 2) it would last longer. Yes, the installation would cost more, but long-term it would be a simpler and more elegant solution. MCAS gave us a great price on the install--around 20k. And despite equipment hassles (the rented bucket truck kept breaking down), they got the work done in 10 days. There was only one actual installer who was an expert with aluminum sheeting. He approached the work as an artist and did a beautiful, impeccable job. On top of that, he was a super-nice guy. Our new steeple should last for 50 years or more and continues to be a bright spot in the Tarrytown community. Michael Casolaro, the owner of MCAS, has a documented history of high-quality roofing work (customized copper gutters to standard reshingling--the gamut) and we are so glad we went with him on this project. Would be zero stars if I could. The short story is their estimator was lazy and sloppy AND threw in a little sexism for good measure. The longer story is, we called several roofing firms when we discovered a leak coming through our attic and dripping through to our second floor. The person manning their phones told us they had no availability that day which was understandable, we moved on to the next company on our list and scheduled with them instead. The next thing I know, MCAS has a truck in our driveway that day. He called my husband, who was not at home and insisted we should have them do an estimate. We were bewildered but agreed, it couldn't hurt to get a second opinion. But then my husband, who again was not home at the time, tells the guy his wife (me) is coming out to meet with him. He TRIES TO REFUSE TO MEET WITH ME, telling my husband , "and anyway you probably know a lot more about what's going on than she does." Never mind the fact that I do the majority of the home repairs and building in our house, but it is 2021. Who the hell says something like that?? I didn't hear this transpire and my husband didn't tell me until later that day or I would have sent him away then and there. Instead, I was treated to the laziest estimate assessment I've ever seen. The leak was coming through the attic, I had tracked the water along a joist under the insulation. For reasons I can't fathom this guy refused to go inside and take a look. Just straight up refused. Instead, he stood in our yard, took 2 photos of the roof, and told me it was the solar panel's fault. That "it's always the solar panel." I kept bringing up that the water was traveling and I couldn't even pinpoint it but he didn't care. He suggested we call our solar company and ask them to fix it, insisting they'd do it for free (they wouldn't, I checked). Then hemmed and hawed about how these leaks are hard to pinpoint and if we wanted to pay for an emergency patch job to call MCAS. He wouldn't give me an estimate at all, said he couldn't. He gave me his card, it says Michael Casolaro, President, and oh I hope to god this guy wasn't the president because if that's how the president of the company acts I can't imagine what a mess the rest of them are. Just to compare, the roofers we schedule to assess the situation came after he left. This guy went into our attic and immediately located the leak. He then produced a ladder and climbed right up onto our roof and took a look at what was going on. He found cracked shingles at the peak that was allowing water to get underneath the shingles where it eventually poured into a nail hole from the solar panel. It was related to the solar panels in a way but the cracked shingles probably had a bit more to do with it? And, this company was able to give us an estimate within the hour. They fixed it today. After blowing me off and hemming and hawing about having the solar company fix it, and not producing any estimate whatsoever, MCAS started calling us the next day trying to get us to hire them. Just unfathomable. Thanks MCAS, for showing us a bad example of behavior so we could see how good the company we hired was. read more

My experience with MCAS Roofing was terrible. I hired them to do roof repairs, and the end result was that the roof leaks became worse after they did the work. The worst thing was that MCAS denied that they did anything wrong. Not only was I out the money that I paid MCAS for the repairs, but I also had to find and pay another roofer to fix the problems that should have been fixed the first time by MCAS. The owner, Michael, acted like an arrogant, obnoxious guy. Based on the good reviews I read online, I put my trust in them, and believed that they were going to do the repairs that needed to be done; unfortunately, it didn't turn out that way. Take my advice, if you want to avoid the aggravation that I endured, then stay away from MCAS Roofing. read more

I met with Michael of MCAS Roofing to discuss my roof repair and he was detailed in his explanation of what he would do, the costand my choices of materials. He brought me large samples of the colors I was deciding on so I could see it on the roof. His crew of 4-5 men, worked here every day for 8 hours and meticulously cleaned up each day. They were skilled and very careful to cover areas of my yard,driveway and shrubbery so they were not damaged. They put pieces of plywood down to protect my driveway and in front of my windows. Mike checked in with the crew each day and gave me an update. Everything was cleaned up at the end of the project. The finished product is beautiful! Excellent experience. I had Mike and his team replace a mid-century tar and gravel roof. Most contractors don't do this kind of work anymore because it's labor intensive and messy, but Mike gave me a competitive price, sent a crew of polite and thoughtful workers, and came in on time and on budget. What's more, one year later when there was a slight dip in the fascia which caused water to spill over onto the deck, they came back immediately and fixed it for free. We called to try and schedule an appointment with Mike on Monday after a rain storm when we noticed some staining on the ceiling. We were told he would be able to come on Thursday from 2-3 pm. He called back asking if we could reschedule to an earlier time on Thursday, which we accommodated and took time off from work. On Thursday late morning, less than hour from his scheduled arrival time, we were then called by someone else stating that Mike was not able to come at all on Thursday and needed to once again reschedule. With such little notice we wasted a day off from work from this...we are going with someone more reliable since we have additional future work needed and based on the lack of performance for this smaller job we would not feel comfortable using this company on a larger job. Reliability is the most important thing for working people, I'm even willing to pay more for it. I understand things come up but apparently there was a preplanned appointment he needed to be at, why he made an appointment for Thursday is beyond me. read more
