Updating review from previously because the warranty department came through to fix all of the repairs needed! That was a relief. I'm still not providing five stars only because of the issues with having three flat tire tires from the street sweeper not coming often enough to clear the roads. I told the builder what had happened to me and they did not compensate me even though my tires were not patchable, and I had to literally get new ones and the streets are coming once only every other week did not seem sufficient. But other than that, the warranty department and sales department are excellent to work with and in today's economy I would still consider it a good purchase, especially in the area. I reached a point where it was becoming difficult to maintain our rural home, so we moved to town. We looked at every builder in the Clovis area and narrowed it down to two. (Ha, turns out they were the same family) Time was getting short, so we made the move and signed with McCaffrey Homes to build in the Clovis Santerra neighborhood. We were the second or third house built. We spent a good deal of time watching our home being built. I would swing by every day after they were done and look at the day's progress. I was 70 yrs old at the time we built and it wasn't my first Rodeo. I was very pleased with the build quality I saw going into our new home. That quality has paid off. After 8 yrs, I have so far not found any failures in my construction beyond normal wear, and even that is minimal. I have watched the entire area around us be built up by other builders, and believe me, they were cutting corners and doing things that would not suit me at all. The bottom line is this: McCaffrey builds a very good and solid house, and they stand behind their work. It's up to you to make a Home. read more

We moved into our home a few months ago. We have been very pleased with our experience. We were in our previous home for 24 years, so we knew what we wanted in a new home. Stephanie went out of her way to accommodate our requests during the paperwork process. She was able to address our daily concerns and help us with unrelated general knowledge about Madera, our New Community at Tesoro Viejo and how to navigate all our upcoming vendor appointments. Mike was on site to address any last minute ideas, conerns or possible future projects that we were thinking about. We were able to pick out our finishes, walk through our new house, as it was being built, and talk to him about anything that we were not sure about. He treated us like we were buying his house and wanted us to be completly satisfied. We moved in and I am still complaining about all my stuff that I stiil need to unpack. We have no issues that were not handled promtly and efficiently with our House. We are enjoying all the benefits of our New McCaffrey Home at Tesoro Viejo. We are happy with the Neighborhood, The Dog Park, and all The Community events. I am looking forward to sharing all my vintage stuff with all my new neighbors. We are 2 years into our McCaffrey home and it has been a horrendous experience. We understand COVID has reduced responsiveness and materials however we received a house with multiple deficiencies. Our build was incorrect from the start with things such as appliances, vanities and toilets being incorrect. These were slowly replaced with the correct choices we paid for. We have also had issues with stucco carpet and doors. These have been corrected be it over 2 years. Our biggest ongoing issues are our walls. We noticed from beginning that our walls were popping off at the ledges and seams were growing in size throughout the house. We contacted McCaffrey multiple times for clarity and repair. It was the same thing over and over. Simple repairs done, paint coming in and touch ups. We have had them out four separate times for the repairs. Sometimes these would take all day and require more than 1 persona do to the amount of cracks and breaks in the walls. We've even ask for supervisor and management review of the issue and no response on why it keeps happening. As of our last request we are being denied any more repairs as "Homes require a certain amount of care and maintenance, which are the homeowners' s responsibility," is the response. We lived in a previous local build that was brand new and did not have a single issue with walls over 7 years. Apparently part of routine maintenance on a new home from McCaffrey is constantly repairing your walls as they fall apart. read more

This is not my first new construction purchase so I was ready for an entirely different experience. I am very pleased with the quality of my home and also all of the events within the community. After making the decision to move to Central California from the Bay Area to be closer to our grandchildren, my husband and I searched many communities in Fresno and Clovis. These issues were due to your lack of quality control during the project wich I have documented very well. So if this is your stance I will forward all pics from the framing to the finishes and trust me they are extremely unacceptably. They are rude and do not take responsibility for any of the issues that arise. They blame their third party vendors for missing items or poor craftsmanship, but the. We have had nothing but good experiences with McCaffrey, from the initial paperwork to the building and design process, to the post-move-in maintenance work and follow up and everything in between. Our home itself is fantastic and we're so happy with our choice. The reason for my review today is that I was not expecting such excellent customer service 4 years AFTER move in! The hose in our kitchen sink sprung a leak and needed to be replaced, so my husband contacted McCaffrey just to see if they could put us in touch with the plumber they contracted with so we could get the model number of the part we needed. From there, they opened up a service ticket for us and had Richard's plumbing contact us to schedule a maintenance call to replace the part at no charge!! We were definitely not expecting that. I am so impressed and thankful for McCaffrey's amazing customer service and for their partnership with Richard's Plumbing, who did an excellent job. read more

I purchased a McCaffrey home built from scratch a few years ago. They are a local Fresno area builder. I did not appreciate the advantage of going with a local builder until you deal with the bigger national builders like Lennar. It's true that Lennar likes to include a lot with their "everything's included" tag line, but this also means it's their way and no way at all. You are limited in selections of options and even basic things that are able to be changed they will not budge. With McCaffrey, they have plenty options available for the home buyer. McCaffrey's recent design is not about using every single square footage for more rooms, but thoughtfully designing the given square footage to optimize the living space. This might be a good or bad thing. Basically, homes that you find with 4 bedrooms may only be 3 in McCaffrey's with the same square footage. Because the floor plan designs tend to have elegance like longer hallways and things of that nature. Despite also being tract homes (cookie cutter) I would say McCaffrey's exterior designs are far from being boring and bland like other builders. 2 story homes from McCaffrey also tend to have 10' ceilings where the standard has been 9'. Little things like that you start to notice when you start looking at all builders. I would say the overall quality of the home is really good. The customer service was outstanding with my experience. They provide tons of documents about the house and your purchase with everything neatly organized for your records. If there were issues they were on top of it and contractors were scheduled and handled the issue in a timely manner. I have not had any major issues with my home and any minor things that occured during warranty period was taken care of. Things constantly changed, but using preferred lender has benefits that are hard to refuse. All reps I dealt with during start to finish were great. Danielle who handled the design center was very accommodating. Her position is probably understated but she has to deal with all these options and annoying homeowners asking all sorts of questions about options and prices and piecing them all together. Brandon the superintendent was also very chill and easy to work with. Those 2 really stuck out because I feel they were the ones you interacted with the most during the process. They also seem to use quality contractors. You dont realize this until you have purchased or be part of building new homes. So McCaffrey Homes really has their contractors in check to make sure they do a good job, and when repairs have to be made they are on it ASAP. Overall, no issues at all and I love my home built by McCaffrey and the overall process. read more

First off, I love my home and McCaffrey has been excellent on coming out and taking care of service issues in the 6 years that I've owned the home. So why 3 stars? Stephanie. Called yesterday morning and left a message. She got back to me at the end of the day. This is an improvement. Normally it takes her days to return a call. I told her I needed information on the framing on the backyard side of my house because I am mounting a heavy retractable awning to the house to provide shade to the patio. She said she was leaving for the day and would call me back tomorrow. She called me back the next day and said McCaffrey doesn't have that information and recommend I call the city of Clovis. She said since I'm building a patio cover I would need to talk to them anyway about a building permit. I told her I wasn't building a patio cover. I am mounting an awning. Just wanted to know where the studs are. Again she said they don't have the plans and to call city of Clovis. I asked her if McCaffrey keeps blueprints to the homes. She said she did not know. I asked he's to have someone call me who would know. She said she is the only person who handles service calls. I asked again to have someone call and again she refused. In fairness to McCaffrey I've changed my rating to 5 stars. I shouldn't allow 1 bad customer service experience be the basis for a rating. McCaffrey is a great organization and I will continue to refer them to others. read more

It was wonderful to ready such great reviews on McCaffrey homes website and these reviews on yelp. I WISH I HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE.. Unfortunately, my "brand new" home is a disaster. From the little things to the big things, it all matters as this is a huge investment and "I PAID FOR THE UPGRADES" and "I AM PAYING THE MORTGAGE", therefore, when I bought a new home I should've gotten a new home. I closed escrow a 11/23/2015. Got my keys on the 25th. On the day of my walk through, 11/23/15, the garage door opener wasn't installed and one of my kitchen drawer had a note on it saying "working on it, will be done Monday 11/30/15". Two weeks later, they finally come out and fix it after I called and called. I PAID for a two tone paint, in my closet down stairs, the paint is off. I was told that although they are the same color, because they are from two different paint buckets, the colors can come out wrong and that they'll fix it the next day. Three weeks later and still nothing. The carpet installation was horrible, my nephew came over and stepped on nails while walking up my stairs and made his feet bleed. There's several areas where nails are sticking up, it's so hazardous. The big part is the outlets. I had the cable and internet come out and the techs advised that the wiring and grounding is all wrong and wires are too small so when the tvs or surround sound are used, the outlets will trip and is hazardous because can cause fires. This is a brand new home, I did not expect to have my home built and have so many issues. This was suppose to be a ready to move in house so that I wouldn't have to stress about anything. All I've been doing is stressing out about how much trouble this house has been. I swear, if I wanted a project home, I would've bought one for soooo much less. All customer service can say is to put in a work order and it can take up to 4-6 weeks to get a response of when someone can come out to "ASSESS" the complaint Again, this is a new home, I shouldn't even have these complaints. If current home owners did not experience these issues, I'm happy for you guys, because this is a horrible experience for a new home owner. read more

We recently moved into our second McCaffrey Home and we couldn't be happier. The last McCaffrey home which we lived in for over 10 years was great. We really loved that house and the building quality really seemed to be top notch. With that house, we were the second owners so we didn't go through the building process like we did for the house we just moved into. Even though we were the second owners, after about a year of living there we called McCaffrey about some broken bathroom tiles, and they sent someone out to fix them at no charge. The McCaffrey sales team was really helpful. We were waiting for a specific lot to open and Tina and Lisa did a great job of keeping in contact with us as different phases of the development became available. During the building and design process of our current house, everyone at McCaffrey did a great job making the process as easy as possible. At one of the appointments where we were picking out some of the home's finishes, the company owner came in and told us how much she valued us as a customer. One can't expect things to be perfect when purchasing a new home, but when I called for service they were there within a few days. If I knew back then what I know now I would have gone with a different builder. The sales & design departments are great but construction, customer service and maintenance are absolutely horrendous. Maintenance work orders are not followed through with in a timely manner. Customer service complicates the work order instead of simplifying it by contracting out to several different companies who do not communicate with each other. Instead of mccaffrey "taking care of the homeowner" the homeowner (me) is running around calling 2 or 3 different companies trying to get my work order followed through with so my home is running efficiently. Since warranty comes free with the house for the first year, you're at the bottom of their priority list. I was renting prior and I am having more maintenance issues in the first year of living in this "new" mccaffrey home than I ever did at my old rental. When I moved in certain fixtures were not installed properly yet somehow passed their "inspection code". Every other week there is an issue with something in the new house and I dread having to deal with their poor customer service. Also, their hours are listed as 8-5 but most of the important people you need to deal with are out of the office by 4. If you want to deal with poor customer service, mccaffrey might be the builder of choice for your next "dream" home. read more

First, let me state that McCaffrey knows how to sell their homes. When we bought our house in 2007, we were told that the way their homes were built, we would hardly see any dust inside or hardly hear any sounds from outside. Well, neither are true! We have dust like any ordinary home and sound proof, NOT!!! They did fix problems we had in our home (brand new home, there shouldn't have been any problems). They knew that we had window issues (breaking balancers on 5) which they did repair. BUT, this was an ongoing issue. As soon as the 10 years passed, they would not repair any more windows. I can understand if this had happened once. This was a defect in the windows made by the company they hired to put them in their new homes. If we purchase another new home, it will definitely not be a McCaffrey home. read more

This is in response to Janel S. who responded to my initial review of McCaffrey Homes on 10/10/17. Let me be clear, yes your company did take care of all of the numerous problems that I have experienced over the first 10 years of my home ownership. Let me also be clear that I do not nor have I ever had the expectation that you would take care of me for life as I realize that we don't live in a perfect world and nothing lasts forever. But, the issue that I am complaining about is one that I feel warrants some kind of action on your part other than telling me that I need to take care of this myself. This house has 21 windows, 5 of which have failed during that 10 year period (one which has failed twice!). To me and most reasonable people, this would be an indication that the product that you sold me was and is defective, which is probably one of the reasons that the company that made theses windows is no longer in business. I feel that it is reasonable for me to expect that one of the least technical products in this home should last a lot longer than 1 to 10 years (the time period in which 4 of my windows failed and required replacement of the opening and closing mechanisms, i.e. balancers). I am now nervous EVERY TIME that I open or close a window, especially after the 5th one has failed and that is something I should not have to go through when you consider the price that I paid for this house. read more

First off, I want to say that I absolutely love the design of my home. The employees at Mccaffrey were great and they would keep me updated via email every time my home entered a new construction phase. When we first signed for our new home, we were given a sheet of upgrade prices but when it came time for our design appointment the design upgrades price for 2 tone paint went drastically higher. We messaged the person in charge and they charged us the original amount that they gave us. Which was totally fair because we signed right before they decided to raise all their prices. Now, about 2 months from living our home we noticed that one electrical outlet suddenly went out. We put in a work order and the came fix it the next week. Then our downstairs restroom door handle was not working properly, the lock would get stuck when trying to get out. We called and they came to fix it that next week. About 3 months of living in our home, a piece of our granite near the kitchen sink chipped off (fixed within a week) and our grout near the back sliding door is begin to crack (we were told to wait until the 11 month touch-up) . At the same time, our MB restroom door started to drag on the tile when we would open and close (fixed within a week). Now, 5 months into our home we noticed a huge crack in our upstairs restroom sink (tile) and we hardly ever use that side of the sink. We also just recently noticed a thin crack on the kitchen island. These are recent cracks that we noticed so we still need to submit a work order for this to get fixed. I'm 22 and a first time homeowner so I don't know if all this is normal for new homes. I would assume that things should not be cracking or shorting out in a new home... However, I gave 4 stars because I truly do love the design of their homes, their customer service, the set up our new community, the biweekly neighborhood cleaning we have (front yards), and their promptness on responding to service requests. Ultimately, it's a beautiful home and they have amazing service overall. I do believe that they try to keep their customers happy by all the services they provide, I would have given them 5 stars if its wasn't for all those cracks that started appearing in our home. read more

We have had the most positive and wonderful experience buying and living in our McCaffrey homes. We purchased a new home in the Riverstone development about a year ago and the entire buying, building, moving in process has been amazing. Tina, the agent that helped us in the sales office was kind, friendly, knowledgeable, thoughtful, and patient with our whole family. Danielle at design was so bubbly and fun to work with and she has a great eye for design. She gave us advice and input without being pushy and all of our choices turned out beautifully. Brandon, the construction manager has been so helpful and really took the time to make sure we understood everything about our new house. He also has a great eye for detail and a very high standard- he made sure everything was perfect for us. He also has been great about checking back in with us and taking care of anything that has come up (which has been very little). Before we bought this house we had lived in another Mccaffrey for 11 years (purchased from a previous owner, not Mccaffrey) and the quality of the home was very high with no major problems at all even after 11 years there. I agree with the review that Sonia R wrote. The sales, design and mortgage all were amazing! Heather, Tina, Danielle, Chandler, Jill, and everyone else that helped me that I might be forgetting were very helpful and nice! However, once I got the keys, now that's a different story. I feel like they rushed the construction process, therefore, lacking in the quality of work, and forgetting to add/install different things. And now that I have moved in, my home is not a priority to them. Having to keep calling someone to come out and fix/install something is just not convenient, at all. The companies that they have contracts with do not have flexible hours, therefore, leaving those of us that work and can not be able to keep getting a days off in a very bad situation....you either get the days off just to basically "baby sit" the workers to make sure that they do their job the right way and risk that you get fired due to taking way too much time off or just say "nah, forget about". And to make matters worse, once the workers due come out they have the worst attitudes. I was excited about getting my keys to my very first home, but since I got the keys and I moved in its been a very unpleasant, unhappy experience. Definitely not what I expected! read more

I really wish I had shopped around more before purchasing. Paint is chipping everywhere, cracks in my concrete leading up to the front door, the house makes loud noises coming from the walls, the A/C people have been out five times in three years!! Choose another builder. There are many great builders in Fresno, McCaffrey is not one of them. On the surface their homes are beautiful but the quality of craftmanship is terrible. We own a McCaffrey, bought new on '06 and could not be more disappointed with the way the house is holding up. Faulty installation of a shower led to a mold problem in the first year requiring a month of demolition and construction. Bob McCaffrey was arrogant and heartless about the issue and although the problem was resolved, it was just a small representation of the poor build quality of our house. One of our hallway walls seems to be hollow, shakes and rattles when the bedroom doors are shut. Cracked exterior stucco all over the house, and I know that some cracks are normal but our stucco looks awful. Everyone seemed quite nice with the company until we signed papers, then we were on our own. Even at the signing of our documents with McCaffrey brokering the mortgage, there was a last minute switch on the loan and lender paid PMI was snuck into our loan without our knowledge. STAY AWAY from McCaffrey, choose a builder you can trust. read more

Purchased my home in 2009 after the bubble burst thinking I could get a good deal or so it seemed. Home was built in 2004 in the middle of what I consider "the home rush" of California, basically a bunch of developers (all of which are guilty in Fresno) pushing garbage out to profit. The home seemed perfect, when we moved in we had noticed a few cracks here and there, small, but grew over time more and more. The construction after I took a look in my attic was sub par by all means. I have built homes before and I can tell a lazy job from a cared for one. Months after moving in I found out that the developer was being sued for this negligent building performance. I truly believe they willfully hired the cheapest and under experienced contractors they could for one simple word "profit" just like so many other developers in Fresno, they don't care about the consumer or their families like they claim to. Of course they are in it to profit, everyone is, but at what cost? I believe in quality, good craftsmanship and for a Company to just brush off this community where they built their homes to rip off the consumers is a shame. Here is a tip, if you plan to purchase a home from them/built by them, inspect it yourself, look at the wood, foundation, windows/ especially the quality, dont be fooled by the lavish outside, look inside, walls and if it has an open garage framing, inspect the walls, check for gaps between the stucco and the bottom of the wall outside, if there is light coming in this is a clear indicator that the wall is not level and it was not given time to settle once it was framed, this is very important when framing on a new foundation, if it is like this in the garage you can bet the rest of the home is exactly the same, your stucco will eventually crack and the other issues will also come about. I cant speak entirely for all the homes built by them just what I have experienced and can tell you based on what I have had to fix, repair and stress out over because someone didn't care enough about it's product. read more

Sheryl O'Neal was one of the rudest salesperson I ever met. I was seriously considering buying a McCaffrey Home at Liberty Square, which is the reason why I would come and check the model home often ( 3 to 4 times total). As I would come in, and talk to her about the home, she spoke to me as if I was just wasting time and that she was better than other people. Now, I would NEVER buy a McCaffrey home because of my experience with her. read more

I purchased my McCaffrey home about 3 years ago. It was my first home so at the begining of the process I was just as nervous as I was excited. Everyone that I encountered through the process was great! Starting with sales, they were very thorough in letting me know what to expect every step of the way...again, since this was my first home. When I met with design I had an idea of what I wanted my home to look like as far as paint and tile colors. They helped me achieve exactly what I had in mind! The loan process was also smooth. I had a co-signer that lived out of town so there were times when documents needed to be sent to their location, and they took care of all those important details so I wouldn't have to worry. 3 years later I still can't say enough about how happy I am with my choice for my first home! I have several friends that have purchased from other builders in town and have had more headaches than they care to talk about. Not to mention when they come over, they have assumed that I paid for a lot of the upgrades in my home since they didn't get them. They are a little frustrated when I tell them the items came with my home. The quality of my home is night and day to some of my friends. Not to mention the customer service! I have heard so horror stories that I have had the luxury of never having to deal with. 3 years later and they are still checking up on me and my home, how nice is that! I haven't had to stalk them to get simple questions answered! I n closing...I just have to say that I have looked at several models and several builders for my first home. I saw the difference and McCaffrey stood out above the rest in regards to quality and reputation. I have referred friends to them and they had the same great experience I did, and I will continue to refer friends and family to McCaffrey. read more

We have lost faith in Mccaffrey homes. We are currently 8 days away from closing escrow on our new home and over the weekend we discovered a 2nd mistake in our options by Mccaffrey. When we decided to buy our home and design it we decided to try to get all the options we possibly could up front so that down the road we wouldnt feel like we left anything out or had to wait on designing our dream home. In the design center we went as best as we could to spare little to no expense on upgrading our dream home to our liking. Our first big request was that we got the all stainless steel appliances shown in the Peyton model home with the 5 burner stove. We reiterated the fact that the stainless with black trim (looks actually black with stainless trim) did not fit our style. We told them this from the beginning. On our options print out for the last 3 months it has shown that we had upgraded stainless steel appliances. UPGRADED stainless steel appliances. 10 days from close of escrow we noticed through the window of our build we were given the stainless/black appliances. As my wife called and called and called to have this situation rectified as these are not in our own personal taste the builder made it seemed like because of their mistake or misleading paperwork that they would do us a favor and waive the $150 change order fee if we came up with an additional $710 in 1 week. This is the 2nd time they've made a mistake on our options and made it seem as if they were doing us a favor by not charging $150 for THEIR MISTAKE! The first they failed to put in the pre-wire for tvs that we didnt realize until we did the open wall tour. And now instead of attempting to rectify the situation by either A. working with us making installments to pay the $710 or B. meeting us halfway and paying half of the $710 themselves, they are completely ingnoring what was our original request for the TRULY upgraded appliances. With buying a home for $250K and putting a lot of money into options we felt they would at least be willing to work with us and correcting their oversite. This petyness has taken away so much joy of the home buying experience and had we not been waiting 5 months for our home to be built we probably would be looking elsewhere by now. For a company who prides itself on referals you would think they would be a little more willing to work with customers who are spending a great deal of money on their home. But no. Just remember anyone looking for a Mccaffrey home that they could care less how you want your home and while designing it it will likely go in one ear and out the other. read more

I bought a Mccaffrey home about 5 years ago and I have to say it has been my biggest regret. Looking on the homes they are very beautiful on the outside but poorly built. One of my many problems started with them placing the hardwood floors down in which when you walk on them they would literally bounce under your feet. I tried having them fixing it in which they gave me the biggest run around ever. Would never forget Brent he was not nice over phone. They eventually fixed it after months of fighting with them. Now my bathroom in the master bedroom has been leaking which damaged the ceiling on first floor and closet in master bedroom and of douse the answer for them is "it's your guy's fault, the bathroom needs to be regrouted." my friends find this hysterical seeing that they bought their homes 10-15 years and never have to regrout once and guess what no leaking. The Plummer even stated "bathroom pan was poorly built." first time buyers be very aware please don't let looks fool you however please go for durability. read more

so far I have been extreemly disapointed with the opperations of Mccaffery homes and the lack of communication between the diffrent departments our home is in the process our being build and although I am excited to move in I would honestly say if I could go back and do it over I would have gone with a diffrent builder. The main reason being they promissed that all the lots would be the same size as the modle and that there would be no sidewalks. when I reviewed the plans it showed a sidewalk and a smaler Lot but both sales consultants assured me that their would be no sidewalks. well turns out they did not know what they were talking about and our lot does have sidewalks which has also decreased the size of our backyard by 20%. this did not seem to disapoint anyone at mccaffery They sipmly said well we didn't know and they originaly told us there would be no sidewalks and there is nothing we can do to change it now. I feel like I have been fooled by the old bait and switch! :-( Also not very impresed with the quality I wish I would have read shane R's post sooner. read more
