Gave this place a shot because my usual Italian joint went on vacation for two weeks. Big mistake on my part. I ordered my meal to-go and the food SUCKED. My order consisted of the eggplant Parm with pasta, a side salad, pasta fagioli soup, and chicken caprese sandwich. My wife had the salad/soup, tiny little salad and the soup was 'so-so' she said compared to others in the area. OK, no biggie. The curly fries that came with the sandwich were fast food quality at best, maybe even frozen food quality. And the sandwich.....GROSS! I literally took 3 bites and tossed it. I couldn't figure out what was bad: it was either the mozzarella cheese, tomato, or the balsamic, but something was OFF. Like SPOILED off. NASTY! Then I moved on to the eggplant Parm, small portion compared to other places and way too much garlic. I will definitely NOT be coming back here. Ew. read more

Another amazing meal at Carlucci's Italian Grill. Went with a very large crowd. Food was excellent and service impeccable, even with a holiday time packed house. So many delicious choices, so everyone was really happy with their selected entrees! The shrimp chowder and pasta fagioli soups were outstanding and the puff garlic bread is scrumptious! The antipasto platter was delicious, albeit a bit small for the price. Also, personal preference is for the fried calamari to be more well done for crispiness. Only wish is they would expand the appetizer offerings to include more standards like mozzarella sticks or fried ravioli for the finicky eater. As a family we've been here for holiday meals a few times and recently revisited for a small family lunch. The outdoor seating area was new to me and very nice on a mild sunny day. I was craving pizza. The Bianco pie was ok. I asked for it to be well done and I think that helped. But this is super thin crust, possibly too thin. It did not really satisfy my craving, and was a pretty small specimen too. My 2 cousins enjoyed their veggie wraps more than anything did my pie. And my uncle really liked his pasta Al forno. This one has sausage and meatballs and was plenty for him to get leftovers. I think the key to this place is finding the items that you enjoy and not venturing too far from them. Located in a shopping plaza but you don't notice it even when eating outdoors. There's a nice set-up under a tent or umbrellas. Large indoor space as well. A bit worn looking in some areas but in a way, adds to the old world feel. Enjoyed the appetizers: bread with red sauce, fried calamari, sampler with tomato bruschetta, fried artichokes and mozz sticks. The veal francaise with spinach was good, maybe could use less of the sauce. The crab cake was a bit dry though and bland, the pasta was just plain, with that yellow sauce- with mustard? I went here on a recommendation from a friend. The staff were friendly. For an appetizer the fried calamari was spot on delicious and nicely cooked. I ordered a Marguerite Pizza. I assumed it was a full size pie but I was mistaken. The pizza was very good I just wish it made it to the table a little hotter. We also ordered the Italian Rustic Cod, this too was not as hot as expected and tasted a little fishy. No cocktails, only two seltzers for which we were charged $8.00.......Not a terrible experience, just a little disappointing for the price. read more

Carlucci's Grill continues to deliver an excellent dining experience with delicious food and great service. I came here for lunch this week to celebrate my friend's birthday. The lunch portions are very generous and come with soup or salad.  Prior to the meal complimentary marinara bread and puffy garlic pita bread appetizers are served.  We really filled up on these breads. I ordered the Rustic Italian Cod (one of my Carlucci favorites) and my friend got the Chicken Parmigiana sandwich.  Both entrees were great.   They have taken the extra effort to beautify their outdoor dining space during Covid with lots of fresh flowers, planters and decor, although that did not apply for my most recent visit.  Overall, inside and outside Carlucci's is a very inviting and welcoming dining atmosphere. read more

Very nice place, a cut above the normal pizza place, a nice restaurant. Very attentive wait staff but not overly annoying. Nice touch is the bread with pasta sauce they bring to the table. Then later they give you a complimentary bread balloon, very tasty and welcomed. I have Chicken and Shrimp Stephanie, which was excellent and a large portion. Partner had Branzini fish which she really liked. Definitely will return to this place. read more

One of the finest Italian restaurants in NJ. BYOB!!! They take reservations on phone, definitely a plus since they are pretty packed. We called them on a Saturday MDW and was easily able to get a reservation. Our server was helpful giving us the vegetarian options. Bread with marinara and fresh garlic bread are served complimentary. The garlic bread is soooo good. For entree's, we ordered the Ravioli Bellini with a side of Pasta Fagoli soup and they were both 10/10. Definitely recommend. The best of all was the dessert - Tiramisu Definitely coming back!!! read more

A great little place for a family dinner. We needed a table for 9 and were easily accommodated. I wish it was warmer out because I noticed they had a nice setup for outdoor seating.. next time! Bread with sauce on top and puffy garlic bread came out for the table. Both, a first for me and both, delicious! I've never had that at any other Italian restaurant before.. it was so unique and great start to a meal. I knew my entree would be delicious based on the red sauce on top of that bread! I ordered the Eggplant Parmesan which came on a bed of pasta. I ate it all. My husband got the Borsellini alla Vodka. He wasn't sure what the pasta pockets would be but he was so happy he ordered it. He said the cheese inside was terrific and the pasta was cooked perfectly. . He rarely asks for a box to take home leftovers but he did this time! I think the only reason why he even had leftovers was because he filled up on bread and some other apps. The rest of the table enjoyed their meals as well.. chicken franchise, penne vodka.....Our niece is gluten free and took her leftover home as well. They took such care in making sure her pasta was cooked separately and that doesn't go unnoticed. The service was friendly and quick.. and very attentive. We had reservations and were seated right away. Before we were seated for even 5 minutes tomato bread was served followed immediately by water and wine opened! We were then approached by our waiter to see what we wanted to eat. TOO RUSHED! We tried to slow it down by saying we were enjoying a glass of wine. He came back 10 minutes later. We ordered. To top it off he brought our entrees before our salad! We were not happy. We felt RUSHED beyond belief. We did not order dessert and won't go back anytime soon! They did not need our table and there was no reason to rush us. We went out to dinner to get out and relax. It didn't happen. Carluccis stop the rush to turn over a table ! In our hastily reconfigured outdoor dining spaces, what passes for idyllic often comes with a world class view of a parking lot or seating so close to the curb you can board a bus without even getting up. Carlucci's in West Windsor has a better idea, create an outdoor patio space that provides sanctuary and quietude that won't leave you inhaling diesel fumes for dessert. BTW my Veal Rollatini was superb as was the Calamari appetizer. Another terrific meal thoroughly enjoyed from this family dining evergreen. Five easy stars. read more

Pretty tasty spot! We came by tonight and managed to snag a table outside without waiting too long, but the inside of the restaurant looked pretty busy. I would say that the service was one of the downsides of the meal, as our server visited our table very infrequently (we had to wait ~15 minutes for him to pick up my card to pay for the meal!). That being said, at least he didn't totally forget about us, which has happened at some other restaurants :) For food, I ordered the crab maradona for myself (basically a crab pasta) and my wife ordered linguine with clams. I was kind of impressed with all of the extras we got! Each entree came with a soup or salad, and we both decided to get the seafood bisque (which was quite tasty and filling!). The server also brought out some bread with marinara before the soups arrived (which was OK but not great) and MORE fluffy bread with garlic after the soups (better but maybe could use some more seasoning). My pasta was pretty good! I liked the sauce, and there were definitely chunks of crab throughout. My wife was less crazy about her pasta and really wanted more salt, but there weren't any salt shakers on the outside tables so I had to sneak in to grab one from an inside table :) I would have asked our server but he was never around! Overall, it was an OK experience. BYOB, as mentioned by other reviewers, so make sure you bring your beverages of choice. I'm still looking for that legendary Italian spot.... read more

I decided to go back here for my birthday dinner. Now I had called ahead to see if we needed a reservation and I was told I didn't bc it was early enough for dinner. What I didn't know was they had parties going on. We get their and are seated in the outdoor seating nook. Our waiter didn't give us menus so we had to ask and he gave us one? So had to ask for another, which took a little longer. We ordered our food. First we started off with the mussels which are still delicious, I decided to order the Spicy Cauliflower- One word. DON'T. It was heavily breaded in some kind of battered mess, it didn't taste good, the spice was meh disappointing. Now the server we had was really horrible. I understand that they are doing tables inside and out, but most of the time he was nowhere to be found. Thankfully the other female server was around more and she was able to bring us more water and other things that we needed. I wanted to give the tip to her not our server. She was better than him. I ordered the Veal Rollatini alla Bergamasca, Yuck. Its like an updated and new way of basically making Veal Saltimbocca. It was like a veal croquette and served with mashed potatoes? It should've been with pasta bc their was so much sauce covering it up to hide the ick, the jersey fresh veggies were delicious, but the dish was not worth $24. My mom ordered the Eggplant Arnaud, which was a spin on rollatini, but with sauteed spinach on the outside. It was floured eggplant, which is not her favorite. Everyone makes it different, some people use bread crumbs and some use flour. Its all in a preference. Now hers didn't have much sauce on it at all not even enough to cover it. She wasn't thrilled with it at all and said the cheese didn't seem to be completely melted inside either. Obviously, our server was nowhere to be found. I drink a lot of water and he finally left me a pitcher of it bc trying to find him to get a refill was next to impossible, hence the other waitress (poor girl) was probably tired of helping us and we weren't even her table. So we ordered dessert which of course was the best part of the meal and we left finally. we were there almost 2 hours, which was ridiculous. Will I go back after that disaster meal and service? I would tread lightly on what I order and play it safe. I guess I will stick with Mussels, Ravioli and dessert, Oh well, That's disappointing. This is our go to Italian place. Less than 2 miles from our house. We go there very often. Their puffy bread is the best. You can skip the first bread with orange goop on top because they will soon come withe the delicious puffy bread. Entrees and appetizers as expected at a local Italian restaurant done very well at a fair price. I probably average eating there every other week. read more

Carlucci's Grill is a pleasant dining experience in a West Windsor market where there really aren't many options for a sit down place with any sort of ambiance. They have a nice outdoor heated patio which is great when the temperatures dip a little. Meals are generally started off with 2 types of complimentary bread...one topped with tomato (red) sauce and a puffy garlic bread. Neither will knock your socks off, but both have uniquely distinct tastes that are welcome while sipping on drinks and waiting for meals. The garlic puffy bread is very thin and kind of tough to cut. They also have a more traditional garlic bread you can order off the menu which is really good. I've had many meals over the years and the portion size of main courses has been generous, and come with choice of soup or salad. The chicken dishes are generally well prepared..tender chicken and flavorful sauces along with the pasta. There aren't too many vegetarian choices, but the ravioli bellini has been a hit such that it's a regular meal we order. The penne vodka is excellent and in my opinion one of the best preparations amongst Italian restaurants in the area (if vegetarian, you need to ask for it without prosciutto). Pizza is a weak point since every time we've ordered it, the sauce and cheese have been average and unmemorable, with a doughy undercarriage...it would be an improvement if they made a more firm or crispy pizza. Service has been friendly, but can be hit or miss when they get busy. My number one gripe that brings the review down to 3 stars is the multiple price increases they've had over the past few years. I understand the costs have increased recently, but vegetarian dishes have gone up in price from the $14-16 range to $20 and up. Ravioli Bellini is now $22, which is almost a 40% price increase. While I like the food, the prices aren't in line with other Italian restaurants in the area and are at a price point where I really don't consider take out from Carlucci's anymore as it can get very expensive. I guess that's fine if their dine in business is thriving, but I hope the business considers lowering prices. Or if times are tough for the business, they should perhaps institute a temporary pandemic/increased cost surcharge that some other businesses have done rather than increase the prices of basically everything across the menu. I'll definitely be back & recommending Carlucci's to others, but with current prices, it's more of an occasional splurge type place rather than a regular dining option. read more

Atmosphere - 5 Service - 5 Food - 5 I got a coupon in the mail for a $20~ 3 course dinner at Carlucci's but then I realized the restaurant always offers this deal Monday - Wednesday. The interior reminds me of a fancier Olive Garden, and judging from the servers, they seem to treat their diners like family. I was waited on consistently and they always gave me plenty of cheese. The puffy bread was a lot of fun. Very crispy and garlicky. I stuffed some of my spaghetti and veal into it to make a sort of sandwich. The seafood bisque was sweet and rich with oceanic flavors. The veal was very delicate and tender. Fortunately, the appetizer and main course were delicious enough for me to get past the cannoli. I thought the shell was way too hard to eat with a fork and knife and the glaze was very floury and gritty. I would definitely go again if I'm looking to have a good Italian meal. read more

We needed a central location for lunch with parents. Nothing to fancy, nothing exotic or "ethnic". Had to be safe Italian (is Italian ethnic?). Carlucci's seemed to fit the bill. Thanks Yelper friends. It was exactly what we were looking for. And...a BYOB! W arrived at 2pm and were seated immediately. The place was pretty empty when we arrived but during our 5 hour stay, yes you read that right, 5 hours, it started to full up. We had appetizers to coffee and everything was very well done and tasty. We all stuck with a variety of pastas, and there is quite a variety. Starter was a specially requested sampler. Good espresso finished it off. The service was also first rate. They never tried to rush us or move us out during our very long stay. F and I are so happy to have found a place that his parents really enjoyed close to their home and our gym. They also have an outdoor patio for nice weather. read more
