Overall, my opinion about this store pretty much remains unchanged. But lately when using the…read moreentrance adjacent to the produce and deli, you are accosted by the stench of rancid cooking oil emanating from the deli section. Clearly, they need the ventilation system checked (regrettably oil for deep frying is infrequently changed anywhere). I was worried, however, my clothing was going to reek of it from having been in the store. The vile odor of the seafood section nearly knocks you over entering that same entrance and it gets more staggering as you approach the seafood aisle. I suspect this is for two reasons: first, it's clear that the crushed ice isn't changed regularly, much less daily (as it should be) -- which is likely contaminating the fish on said ice. Second, the fish itself is aged and previously defrosted and aged and likely well on the road to decomposing. I hold my breath if ever in the also adjacent pharmacy area. It's seriously gross. It screams unsanitary and likely unsafe. I rarely eat deep fried food and I'd certainly not get it here. And, there is absolutely no way I'd buy seafood here. The Slingerlands store is little better, but the fish counter area is somewhat less repulsive. The main reason to come here are for the produce (well maintained and extensive choice), the dairy section (decent), and the canned goods (standard) . Otherwise not great to poor. Let me note, the seafood sections at Whole Foods, Honest Weight, and The Fresh Market don't stink.

The meat, fruit and vegetable sections are filled to the brim. There's a wonderful cheese section with gouda, feta, Swiss, Italian and French varieties. Inside are tons of lanes for checkout, even self-checkout. It gets busy. The staff isn't the quickest at all times, but they learn! They sell laundry detergent, bathroom items, news, bread (back left), dairy, flowers, books and essentials. This grocery's bigger than Wegman's. Review: 5

The shelves are stocked with imported pastas, sauces, and specialty items that make it hard to leave empty-handed. I ordered the Chicken Cutlet Sandwich, which was outstanding with a perfectly crispy cutlet and fresh ingredients. The macaroni salad was a great side, and the cannoli was the perfect sweet ending to the meal. If you're looking for authentic Italian flavors and a true old-school market experience in Albany, Cardona's is definitely worth a visit.

The market has that old time vibe of being part of the neighborhood. Amazing selection of Italian goods and some seating. Perhaps most importantly, a really nice selection of creative sandwiches, filled with high quality ingredients, that they can also put on a wrap. I loved the Rabe C, broccoli rabe, fried eggplant, provolone and hot pepper spread. Great flavor combo and a pop of heat from the pepper spread. My wife enjoyed a delicious roast beef wrap and my daughter enjoyed a vibrant pasta salad. All that plus a local orchard sparkling apple cider! Almost forgot to mention, the woman working behind the counter was pleasant and the staff were all professional. I can see why it's a local favorite!

Absolutely lucked into this place while visiting our daughter at a nearby college. We were headed…read moreto the donut shop next door and saw the sign for the cheese shop. (Certainly a lucky neighborhood) It looks small from the street but once you walk in, it opens up to a sizable store. We were greeted by a friendly staff member, he took the time to describe their cheese selection and the other things going on in the shop. He then pivoted to giving us tons of help selecting the right cheese. We sampled a couple of things and then he dialed in three choices for us to buy. (With an assist from another customer that insisted that we would love the Delice de Bourgogne) Prices were reasonable enough for the quality. We added some gourmet crackers that were neutral enough to not overpower the cheese. The next day, we made the three cheeses the focus of our lunch. The Delice de Bourgogne was the star of the show, a creamy, earthy, and savory masterpiece. The two year aged Gouda and creamy blue cheese were delightful as well! Truly glad that we walked into The Cheese Traveler!

We appreciated the relatively local (Quebec, VT, NY) cheeses they have, and our destination cheese, Wisconsin Brick (which we had never tried before, and which they were quite willing to work with us on getting the appropriate size). The sandwiches looked delicious but we were there at the wrong time of day, alas, but we will 100% be back. If you like cheese, this is a destination location for the region.

I'm writing to tell you how caring they are to all the people who come there. my wife is in stage 4 lung cancer and it has now moved into her bones. two weeks ago she was in the hospital and wanted a breakfast sandwich, so I stopped on my way to Albany med to get her a breakfast sandwich and had brought it up to Gidget that my wife was in bad shape. as I was ready to pay for it, Gidget gave her the sandwich for free. I was so happy to see that Gidget was caring herself. As so many people go there, she doesn't know my wife by name, but always knew her voice on the phone and could attach that to her face when she went into Gidgets place ( losees) . That's the good stuff that happens in small country stores. Good people equal good doings. Gidget, if you see this, I'm very grateful you showed how you do care about your patrons. In time of hardness on both my wife and Gidget running a very good food spot trying to survive, I am truly grateful for your kindness towards my wife. I will never forget that, Gidget!!!
