(Certainly a lucky neighborhood) It looks small from the street but once you walk in, it opens up to a sizable store. We were greeted by a friendly staff member, he took the time to describe their cheese selection and the other things going on in the shop. He then pivoted to giving us tons of help selecting the right cheese. We sampled a couple of things and then he dialed in three choices for us to buy. (With an assist from another customer that insisted that we would love the Delice de Bourgogne) Prices were reasonable enough for the quality. We added some gourmet crackers that were neutral enough to not overpower the cheese. The next day, we made the three cheeses the focus of our lunch. The Delice de Bourgogne was the star of the show, a creamy, earthy, and savory masterpiece. The two year aged Gouda and creamy blue cheese were delightful as well! Its cheese selection is quite varied, and they had several cheeses that I can't get at my fancy cheese shop in CT. The owner was pretty knowledgeable too -- when I asked about one French cheese, she said she didn't have it, but her suggestion as an alternative clearly indicated she knew that cheese's profile. I had the duck sandwich for lunch. It was a little small, but reasonably priced for the size. Next time I'll know to order two :-) . The Cheese Traveler is that unimaginable high 5 star local micro-store! This cheese store is behind some shrubs, in a corner mall, near 4 car spots. Really though, it's the name that intrigued me. Coming in there is a 'cool' shelf in the front and room-temp display on the left, as well as wonderful charcuterie, hand sliced salami, pancetta, olives, capers, shelves of wine, breads and heaps and heaps of beers. Bottles of beer. Cans of beer! They sell anything associated with cheeses, snack hours and picnics: wafers, crackers, chips, wines, aperitif foods. And then. There's an islet in the middle - just a small stand, not much frills - where there are a few 'end' cheese bits (odds + ends), all price marked but just random stuff, for sale. My heart beat jumped, because I hate spending $50 bucks on a pound of cheese I won't like. There's a FRENCH word - un bon mot Francaise - for an idea like this, this little 'bargain-stand': 'Degustation'! When I came around, this place stunned me with the level of friendliness. Not trying to make a sale, not stepping all over me, not watching over me. The women were unbelievably friendly, happy, gracious. With a cheese connoisseur for a dad, I found this place and thought it was a must. It's a hole in the wall but arranged beautifully with cheeses, dried meats, drinks, sweets, and what felt like one-of-a-kind items. They offered a variety of cheeses and the attendant was incredibly knowledgable. They make pressed sandwiches, which we all ordered. When we visited, there was no place to sit inside but with a decent drive home, we sat in the parking lot to save the integrity of the food. The sandwiches come with a pickle which was great and we added the tomato soup for one of them. The idea is great, a sandwich with fancy meats and cheeses paired into hot sandwiches. What an amazing shop! We were on our way to a concert at SPAC and decided to stop by here to get some treats to have at the venue. Some decadent, fancy, delicious treats. The cheese monger there was able to help us select a few cheeses and some duck prosciutto and duck pastrami (no pig for this girl). The meats were SO good and the cheese equally as delicious. The rest of the box was filled with an assortment of fruit, jam, nuts, cornishons, chocolate, and a honey stick. The store is quaint with an eclectic assortment of chocolate, candy, chips, tea, sodas, pasta, milk and other local products. They have some amazing sounding grilled cheese sandwiches. With duck...yes please! I wish I had known about their summer bbq menus sooner. Tomorrow is the last night and I'm not sure if we'll be able to get back there but everything on the menu sounds good. I don't know a lot about cheese, except that it makes for some of the best jokes. However, for a while now this place has been on my radar and a series of events (such as "date night" coinciding with the store's late hours) allowed us to come here and explore their offerings. It is a small shop, located on Delaware Ave. in a set of stores that is easy to miss if you don't have a smart phone or a very observant wife/navigator! When we walked in it was obvious that this was a fun little store with a wide variety of cheeses. However, it wasn't cold (as in full of fridge coolers) at all but instead warm and pleasant. Which is also exactly how I would describe Mary, the woman who helped us. She walked us through several types of cheddar cheeses which my wife likes, providing samples and commentary along the way. Then, she made some recommendations regarding soft cheeses. They appear to only have one variety of Provolone (one of my favorites) and it was quite good, but I do wish there were more. We decided to get a box filled with four types of cheese, two types of meats (beef sausage and spec), various fruits (strawberries, two types of grapes, blueberries) nuts, corn nuts (a surprising but welcome addition!), honey sticks, and marmalade. All worked well together with the crackers provided and it was easily enough for two rather hungry and adventurous adults. I won't lie... it wasn't inexpensive... but for a special occasion it was certainly special. Going back, I think I would focus more on some of their interesting cured meats and other local items like jams on the walls. Go take a look at the EXTENSIVE list of items they have on their website as being in stock, and then wonder how anyone could possibly see them all in just one visit. I had the pleasure of snacking on a board from The Cheese Traveler when I was at an event at Marcus Blaque in Troy and OH MY GOD I could have (and pretty much did) eat the whole thing by myself. The selection of cheese was fantastic and the accompaniments were divine (crackers, hearty bread, cornichons, corn nuts, berries, FIGS, different well-paired and well-thought jams/preserves, etc), so much so that I had to call and request a graze box for myself and two friends when the weather decided to play nice (an impromptu picnic was exactly what the doctor ordered). Becky was nothing but absolutely lovely and personable, from start to finish. She put together a graze box for me, asking me if I had any cheese preferences (I deferred to her expertise and she was smart enough to at least clarify whether I was fond of blue cheese, because I'm not!), and had it all together with within half an hour. It was absolutely perfect for 3 people at $55 and no one was left feeling unsatisfied. I have every intention of going back and just browsing their selections to stock my own pantry and fridge, so unsurprisingly this is a must visit for anyone who loves a good cheese. We bought one of their charcuterie platters and it came packed with rich cured meat flavors and pairings. The duck pastrami - holy cow, their duck pastrami is really rich, peppery and downright delicious. They paired it with some sweet mustard that really brought out the flavors of the duck. Overall, the quality and selection of their products is really good and their service is great. One of the things this place needs is a little bit of a better seating area. I don't think I've ever consumed gold before, but it was worth it. Each bite of the sandwich had a variety of mixed flavors. The Sweet & Savory was a mix of duck breast and preserves, definitely an interesting combination and came together pretty well, but when comparing to the special sandwich it fell short just because each bite didn't have the same "wow-factor" and coming together of the ingredients that "The Kanye" offered. We stopped by on a mid-afternoon a few days prior to their "grand opening" celebration to see what was available at this new business. We were first impressed with the aroma of the cheeses upon entering. The owner, Eric Paul, approached us as we looked around the shop, and offered assistance by way of saying, "tell me what kind of cheese you like and I'll suggest cheeses that I have that are similar." My wife said she enjoyed Monchego. Mr. Paul further inquired about her interest in sheep cheese before eventually providing us with tastes of four different sheep cheeses. He explained that two were cooked cheeses and two were raw; two were from Spain and two were from France. All four were fantastic tasting. We chose to purchase the Tomme Brulee ($27.95/lb) - a traditional raw sheep's milk cheese. The label used to seal the wrapping of our purchase provides a brief description of the cheese and suggests possible wine pairings. Nice idea. We also saw an assistant stocking shelves with various jams and crackers. When we inquired about the jams, Mr. Paul offered us samples of two that would complement our purchase. They were so delicious we ended up purchasing both: a Red Fig Preserve from France ($9.95) and a Black Cherry Jam ($14.50) also from France. While I originally bookmarked the bakery next door I stumbled upon this lovely and 'cheesy' gem in Delso and decided to have lunch before getting sweet fixings. They were extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and welcoming. I was astonished by the cheese selection and the menu which included some very special sandwiches. I tried both the Sweet + Savory (pawlet, smoked duck breast, sour cherry preserves), Frankie Says (tome rabelais, apricot jam, jamon serrano) and the French Onion soup. The Sweet + Savory is part of the regularly offered menu but the Frankie Says was on a weekly special, as I was told each week the specials rotate. The Sweet + Savory though was what really stood out for me as I enjoyed the combination of the saltiness of the cheese, smoked flavor of the duck breast, and the not overly sweet/sour taste of cherry preserves. Best of all is that they were served on warm and toasty bread. The French Onion soup was also a nice addition to the meal, but I could've done without it. Depending on what you choose I was told the sandwiches sometimes take a little longer to make due to the melting time for the cheese and the assembly of the masterpiece. We needed a rush order on a Tuesday afternoon with delivery before 6 pm, and the wonderful woman, Becky, on the phone accommodated us with patience, efficiency, and artistry within the hour.
