Our dishes were Penne with Vodka Sauce, Meatballs with Marinara along with more penne in sauce, Chicken Marsala and Antipasto. The Chicken was absolutely delicious with lots of mushrooms and flavorful sauce. The meatballs were enormous and more importantly tasty. The only dish I wasn't entirely pleased with was the antipasto. I was envisioning whole chunks of cheese, olives, peppers and rolled cold cuts. Instead it was finely chopped cold cuts and American cheese on a bed of oily greens with a few pickled vegetables. Alas, I don't have any pictures! I didn't think to take any with all the festivities. I would definitely use them again for my catering/party needs.

Well, it's what they use at Katz's in NYC. Except at Katz's they apparently boil the pastrami before serving it so it totally falls apart. That's what I learned from the passionate fellow behind the counter today. Well, that, and they had no pastrami prepared for sandwiches. Well, I'll just have to come back. For years I've been told of the legend of this place. The place where Old World Provisions meats are sliced and served on bread for a pittance. A manufacturing facility where there is a small retail operation that's open to the public. Helmbold Fritz is like a beacon on a hill. Well, it's on a hill at least. It's a bit tucked away in the warehouse district around the corner from the Franklin Ballroom. And when you pull into the driveway, you have to go around back to get to the front door. It's almost as if they don't want you there. But they totally want you there. Kinda. When I called to ask if they were open for lunch, the response was, "Lunch? We open at 11." I'm unclear if the wooden picnic table around the back of the deli was actually meant for visitors of if its for employees, but we decided to stick around and eat there instead of having a car picnic. It was a glorious day. Part of me is a bit worried about coming back here for pastrami. Because if it's half as good as I suspect it will be, it might be hard to keep me away. That fifth star is being reserved until I try their signature products. But I promise to report back.

In one sentence: The food for my grandson's graduation party prepared by LaGioia Deli was outstanding! All the guests raved by the quality of the food, the preparation, and the quantity! From the moment my daughter contacted Laura, the owner, to place the order to its pickup everything was handled efficiently, with care, and with an emphasis on what the customer desired. A change in the order was made with no problem. Friendly service throughout the process. The food was packaged very well and stayed warm. Portions were generous and the cost less than other places. The items ordered: Cheese Tortellini with Broccoli and Shrimp (excellent) Chicken Parm (outstanding!) Meatballs (like Grandma makes, so GOOD) Ziti with red sauce (freshly made and seasoned perfectly) Cavatelli with red sauce Eggplant Rollitini (popular and delicious) Chicken tenders Three large loaves of house made bread (outstanding, guests returned for seconds) (The owner gave us rolls also.) I had eaten at Saati Deli before and since I was already in the plaza, I decided to go there. There were a few people in line and a few waiting for orders. I grabbed a soda and when it was my turn, an employee was moving around behind the counter but did not acknowledge me. It only took a few minutes for a woman to come over and ask if I had been helped. She took my order, a turkey and Swiss on toasted rye with fries, and I paid. My order took a little longer than expected. When my sandwich was brought out, the fries were missing. The employee realized it and went to get them, but there was a brief mix up before the correct order was brought out. It was not a big deal for me since I was not in a hurry, and I have eaten here before without delays, so this may have just been an off day. I had more errands to run and did not eat right away. By the time I got home, the fries were still warm, which impressed me. The sandwich was tasty as always and the fries were very good. My order was correct and the food quality was exactly why I keep coming back. I have also been at events that Saati has catered, and the food has always been very good there as well. The space inside is a bit small, but I do not mind that. What stands out less positively is the customer service. Several other reviewers have mentioned the staff not being very friendly, and I would agree. The interaction feels less than businesslike, more like they will get you your food but without much engagement. A little more warmth would go a long way. Prices are on the higher side, but that comes with freshly prepared food and I am fine with that, especially when supporting a local business instead of a big chain. That ambience of the place was nostalgic which is the reason why I gave it 3 stars and not 2. The woman helping me was friendly enough but made it a point to tell me how gas prices were fine at $4.10 per gallon as long as Trump was the president, which annoyed me because it gives an indication that details don't matter here. Given the taste of the $15 small sub I paid for it definitely tracks. Be your own critic, but for me it's the history of this place and not the food has people coming back. I won't be one of them.

Some notable changes I noticed during the most recent visit include a big flat screen TV and tables and chairs indoors. The freezer apparently was out of order, but I would have loved to get their tiramisu which is also one of the best I've ever had. Their sub always strikes the right balance in the dressing, bread, meats, and toppings. Toppings are consistently good quality, and you can customise your sub by asking staff what you do and don't want on it. I hope they stay healthy and busy for decades to come.

It comes in round or loaf shapes and in one or two pound sizes. It is available in many local stores including the Niskayuna Co-op. True story: Jack Nicholson was filming in the area and found out about the delicious bread from his driver. He got the bread several times and thought it was great. He had it mailed to him. Photos of Nicholson and a related newspaper article are on display. The bread, rolls, and Tomato pie are baked in a coal fired brick oven from Italy. Besides the bread, there are other outstanding offerings including: Rolls! Breadsticks made at the bakery Bread Crumbs for cutlets and meatballs Tomato Pie -- so popular it often sells out Panini Sandwiches made fresh daily for grab & go. Italian olives and cheeses in the case. Italian cookies Parking in front and in a side lot shared with Cornell's Restaurant.
