They tell you what a repair will cost then when you pick it up the price is a lot higher. They botch a few jobs AR15 gas port was not matching the hole made a single fire out of it. They will bugger up the finish. The owner has an attitude problem. I got along with his old man just find. The shop is all family members the cost of up keep for the clan makes for high prices. Stay clear from Gun Zone gunsmith use to be good 12 years ago now is take your money and forget about it. Any problems you get a hard time. Buy your self some punches and watch on line YouTube videos and do the work yourself. Bedding jobs buy a magpul stock with aluminum bedding block and save money. Gun Smith are like barbers they run a clip joint. LOL LOL LOL Sell a good gun and they will offer you 30 cents on a dollar then mark it way up. Bolt action buy a Tikka 3x Pistol auto Smith Wesson. 1911 cheap and good 1911 rock island tactical. Shotguns only one mossberg. You use to be able to buy a 500 tactical 20 inch nine shot with ghost rings not any more you have to go with a 590. I hate the heat shield. The 88 is good but you might have to dry fire it a thousand times to smooth the action from hang ups. I also had to paint the barrel and stock the blue job is bad. Why the stock I bought a pistol grip stock so I painted it. I also bought a taller bead to true up the sights. You need to keep your expensive gun in a safe. Now the 590 you can add a magazine tube extension. read more

I purchased roughly 1-3 fire arms a month and I've never had an experience such as I have with these people. I was flat out lied to about the shipping and here it is, 12 days later I still won't be able to retrieve the firearm because our local ffl will close today 2:30 because it's Saturday and not open again until Tuesday making it 15 days before we even get to run the background check to take possession of the gun when I live only two states away. This place is very shady, I'd never do business with them again. honestly, they don't care at all. They will snap to it to send you an invoice to pay but you can bet you won't see your gun for over two weeks because of their lack of respect for others. buy elsewhere from a company that actually wants your business. read more

If you're 75 and obese, this might be your gun store. Full prices and slow, snooty service await the rest of us. I've been in a dozen times over the years when I needed something quick. Tired of the attitude at this point and I'll head someplace else. EDIT to address the response - A logical shop would know the difference between an "ordinance" and an order. The DC order doesn't apply to the shop and, even if it did, an exclusion clearly applies. There certainly isn't a $5,000 fine either. When gun people can't be relied upon to use common sense, we're in trouble. Second, a logical shop would also wonder why an attorney that averages 7,000 rounds a month hasn't spent much at his establishment over the last decade. I am 20 years old and the owner has a policy of 21+ for rifles even with a 16in+ barrel. I was denied service after wanting an amazing green rifle. I was very upset after one of the employees said "the owner doesn't want you going down the street and shooting someone" very disrespectful and offensive to even think of me doing such a thing. There is a difference between a store that sales guns and a gun shop. This is a gun shop. These are genuine gunsmiths. If you ask, they can tell you the real differences in the firearms you're interested in. They are not the least bit arrogant, they are just extremely experienced...there's a difference. They know the difference between parts that have been machined, and parts that have been stamped, and if they seem unenthusiastic about a gun you've asked about, it's probably because they are tired of repairing them. read more

McClelland Gun Shop has a great staff. They are always cordial, and helpful. I use them primarily for gunsmith services. So far they have been able to handle the most basic services all the way up to fabricating a firing pin for an old revolver. They have a large showroom with a nice selection of handguns, rifles, and shotguns. The only negative is the location. It is in an old part of town and I have actually been harassed in the parking lot by someone asking for change. I can highly recommend them for gunsmith services. read more

This is an old gun shop with a bunch of old dudes in it, mostly with attitudes. If you are expecting the warm and fuzees, this is not the place for you. I expect warm and fuzees from any store I'm about to spend a lot of money in. I don't care about the positive reviews that say "these are real gunsmiths". Trust me there are a lot of real gunsmiths around with smiles on their faces. The gun transfer fee has been raised to $80, ridiculous. Oh and don't show up the day your gun arrives. They said they need 24 hours to "log it in". 24 hours to write down a few things about the transfer, just an excuse to be lazy. read more

I was in the market for a new pistol and I went to McClelland Gun Shop. This was my first time here and the staff was friendly. Chris greeted me when I walked in and was more then willing to help me. I had a brand and model in mind. He did not try to up sell me or try to steer me away from what I wanted. He made the whole buying process easy and made me feel at home in the store. WENT TO THIS PLACE TO PURCHASE SOME LEUPOLD OPTICS, they needed to order what I needed so I agreed and handed the owner of this establishment 1600$ cash, then he literally tried to get me to believe that they normally don't give receipts! This guy tried to have me leave his establishment after giving him $1600 cash without any proof that I had done so!! I've never in my life heard of this being a normal business practice, I mean if I'd known the guy and had some history with him then I could see something like that taking place. Took a rifle in to get a suppressor adapter removed and a flash hider put on, which I provided. Took it in on a Tuesday and was told I'd have it by the weekend. On Saturday, still didn't have it, and my wife was in the area and dropped by to see if it was ready. She felt awkward, like they were put out or that she was interrupting something. She told me she asked about it, and one guy looked at another and said "this is yours". The other guy looked at her and said "early next week." I go on a Tuesday to pick it up and they charged me $113 to replace a screw off piece at the end of the rifle. He said "well he had a time with it. it was an hour of work". I had no heads up it was going to be that much, and didn't get a phone call asking if this is something I wanted to carry on with. I could not believe it was that much money. I figured $20-$30 maybe, and that I would get a phone call if there was a disaster situation like this. Even on my invoice I got charged $5.00 for test fire ammo, and in the notes below it say "no test fire". read more

I've been to McClelland Gun Shop before and I've always been treated decently. Having rifle scopes bore sighted, buying cleaning supplies/ammo and having springs replaced in a Mauser 98k and things of that nature. Today I went there because I had a spent case that was stuck in my AR pistol and it need to be pounded out. I didn't ask the price beforehand (my fault on that, I'll never do that again regardless of previous experiences). This time when they came out with the bill they told me $86 and change. I left feeling like I'd been ripped off. Came home and called two other gunshops (DFW gun range in Dallas and the Armory in Mesquite) just to ease my mind a little and was quoted $30 and $35 for the same exact task. Came in here to purchase a 20 gauge over under in the $1000 price range. They didn't have any in stock so we took a look at the options online. I decided on the CZ Redhead. Before placing the order I asked the gentleman if the gun would have ejectors or extractors due to me wanting the gun to have extractors and he assured me that is the way it would come. Upon using the gun during opening day of dove season the gun did in fact come with ejectors. I called the shop back to see if there was anything they could do to fix the problem considering I wouldn't have purchased the gun in the first place if I knew it would have ejectors. The only solution I got out of them was to bring it in and pay a fee for the work needed to be done. read more

Amateur gun smith shop. Dropped off a rifle to get some work done. At the time I didn't ask how long it would take. The person helping never said how long it would take either. After two weeks I called and asked how long it would be. I was told it would be completed in a couple of days. After a week I called again and told it would be a day or two and they would call me when it was ready. I waited another week and called again. I was told that it would be worked on tomorrow. So I waited two days and went to the shop to pick it up. Surprise.. surprise it still hadn't been worked on! I understand a gun smith shop that is busy, but what is unacceptable is being lied too. I decided to choose McClelland Gun Shop to restore a .32 of historical significance that was in very rough shape. After receiving the pistol back I was more than pleased with the work that was done. BS RIPOFF ALERT!!!! Brought in my Armalite M15 Carbine for a 16 inch barrel swap (from stock Armalite 16 inch 1:9 twist standard weight M4 Government profile barrel to a 16 inch 1:7 twist standard weight / M4 standard profile SOCOM barrel), front handguard swap / upgrade and install of an Armilite bayonet adaptor (estimation about an hours worth of work total plus test fire). I supplied all the parts and only brought it to the gunsmith because I didn't want to invest in the tools for a one time proceedure. The gunsmith said it would take no more than a week and they would call me. On the 8th day @ ~11 AM I called and asked about the status and was told they were working on the rifle right now at it would be done about 2 PM (so....11 AM to 2 PM, that's three hours. 2 hours if they take an hour lunch break) and they would call me. Got a call at 5:45 PM and said the rifle was ready. Drive across town (~35 minutes plus gas) the next morning to pick the rifle up paid $108.25 total (included sales tax) for one hours worth of labor with no test fire. I then discovered that they only changed the handguard and installed bayonett adaptor on the old barrel when I inquired about the whereabouts of the stock Armalite 1:9 twist barrel. (Note: The OEM handguard instructions and WEB site says the handgoard swap is a 15 minuite process). The gunsmith said he forgot about changing the barrel, and needed the rifle for a more time and more money to change out the barrel because the new barrel was not made to accomodate the standard taper pinned A2 Front site......some BS about addtional set up time and "re-index" everything on the A2 front sight to install on the barrel. I felt I had already paid for the set up time and re-indexing / timing of the A2 flashhider and all that was on them now becuase they forgot to change out the barrel. I took my rifle, new SOCOM barrel and parts and told him I would think about it. The gunsmith nearly chased me out the door as I was walking out trying to sell me on the low pro gas block, never even offering to make his mistake right. I then drove across town to another gunsmith (~ 45 minuite drive) and confirmed the barrel swap would require either drilling the barrel to accomodate the MIL Spec A2 front site taper pins or a new clamp on or set screw style gas block. He also said the drilling required a special barrel jig that no gunsmith in Dallas / Fort Worth area had the jig that he was aware. I told him I would look an line and buy a new Gas Block / Front sight combo and bring it in when it arrived. He said it will be about $80 to swap out the barrel with mounting the handgaurd, bayonet adaptor and A2 compensator. $108.25, plus my drivetime and gas, not to mention my time, is a lot more than I had planned to spend for a barrel swap. read more

I give this place two stars only because the staff was friendly and seemed helpful.. I took an old Colt revolver there recently to get a quote on restoring it. I know very little about such projects and I'm sure they get expensive, however I feel that the quote I was given here was unreasonable. What really ruined it for this place was the manner in which the estimate was presented to me. Keep in mind they kept my gun for 2 weeks and I when returned to the location to discuss the $2,100 estimate, I was given my gun tied to a piece of paper with scribbling and dollar figures which I couldn't read! The guy had to look at it a couple times just to explain what everything was when I asked! I know it's a family business but they could have at least typed it up on a computer and given an estimate that was actually legible. To me that just seems official and shows that you'll take the time to properly work on my gun. To top it off I asked for a copy of the quote so I can sleep on it and was told that it would be scanned and sent to me via email, to my surprise I have yet to receive that. I Definitely will not be visiting this place again. read more

Didn't want to spend $100 on a set of tools I'd probably use only once, so I contacted this place via email about a sight set change on my Tisas 1911, which has a dovetail style rear sight & a narrow tenon style front sight. This place wouldn't give an estimate until I showed them what type of sights I wanted installed. Emailed them a link on Brownell's website of the sights I wanted & was quoted around $80-100. Finally received my sights from Brownell's & contacted them again via email showing all previous correspondence, & asked how long it would take & if they required up front payment, to which they replied if it was a dual dovetail I could wait, but they needed to see the sights. I replied A THIRD TIME telling them what style sights I had, to which they said they couldn't do the install because it was too problematic. Well, if this gunsmith finds problems working with a sight style that's been around for over 100 years, then I do not recommend him performing ANY repairs to ANY firearm. read more

Terrible Gunsmithing!!! I had a Rem 798 in 30-06 caliber rebarreled to 338-06 Ackley Improved. Ron, the gunsmith, informed me that he had done many of these conversions before. However, after being forced by Ron to pick up my rifle, unfinished, for what I presumed was for need of cash, I learned that the rifle had not been headspaced properly, that it was too long!! I shipped my rifle to a competent gunsmith, out of state, who contacted me when he learned that the rifle failed a no-go gauge test and that it should be reheadspaced. Ron failed to inscribe the barrel with the new caliber and I had to have this done by the out of state gunsmith. My opinion is to avoid this gunsmith unless you want poor work performed on your rifle or pistol. My father referred to folks like this as being jacklegs. I recommend you ship your rifle or pistol to a competent gunsmith such as Mark Skaggs Gunsmithing, Grants Pass, Or. Mark is fair with his pricing and he know's his craft exceedingly well. read more
