Headline: Cozy Family Winery in EG Location: Located just off the highway is a nice little cottage and barn. From the outside McConnell looks like a cozy little home buts quite a bit more than that. It's easy to pass by this place. It seems so small with only a few parking spots out front and going through the front door I feel like I am heading over to family's house for the holiday. But this place boasts a large parking lot and barn used for larger events. On this specific visits we tried this place for the sparkling wine flights. They had reserved seating and it's not a big location when you enter the cottage but it feels so cozy with seating set up throughout the house. On the bigger events they set them up in the barn and when you walk around you see that this place has quite a bit of space with a back patio but also another seating area next to the barn. Perfect for an event or wedding looking over the vineyards. Even though the highway is just on the other side of the roadway, sound wasn't an issue. Service: The staff at this location were great and friendly. They were still setting up some stuff and the printer was being a bit finicky this day so getting a menu of what they were serving for this event too a bit, but that didn't stop the wine and light snacks from coming out. This place does have more of a mom and pop shop vibe and it really works for this location. Drinks: I am not much of a sparkling wine drinker but the options were great and no complaints on that end. The wine and cheese pairings work and they also had quite a bit of snacks that you can buy if you wanted to get more. On prior occasions they do let you bring in food. Not sure if they have any restrictions for these tastings but I would double check before you bring your own charcuterie board. Overall, a great trip and really enjoy this as another local EG winery!

Amazing service and incredible estate grown wines! The knowledgeable staff did a fantastic job walking me through the tasting, explaining each wine's profile and highlighting the notes that stood out most. The lineup included a great variety of complex, smooth and full-bodied reds along with light, vibrant, and citrusy whites. I especially loved how they showcased their family pride in their red blends, particularly the stellar Winemaker's Blend. It's such a versatile wine, and I can't wait to serve it at dinner parties or give it as a gift!

October 31, 2024 - Lucky, lucky, drew a 40% discount!

October 31, 2024 We participated in Elk Grove's Hallo-Wine Trail. After registering, we were instructed to pick up our speciality event 4-bottle bag at McConnell Estates Winery, and then visit local wineries between October 31 and November 3 for special discounts and promotions. McConnell Estates pulled out all the stops for this event, for sure. The venue was well decorated for Halloween. Loved their spirit and enthusiasm! They had a candy discount roulette game, where you chose a piece of candy out of a bowl. Your discount amount (between 5% and 50%) was written on the back of the candy. HAPPY HALLOWEEN! I lucked out and pulled a 40% discount. With that discount, we couldn't resist buying wine, so we decided to taste first. They had two tastings available. The Classic ($10) and the Reserve ($15), waived with the purchase of one bottle. We enjoyed all the wines, and chose the bottles we wanted to buy. The Tempranillo was a favorite. Then, as part of the festivities, we were given a free glass of their Sangria. I am not normally a Sangria fan, but their Sangrias were delicious. They had four flavors available: POISONED APPLE Chardonnay, apple, caramel & cinnamon PUMPKIN SPICE Tempranillo, pumpkin spice & cinnamon BLOODY SANGRIA Merlot, blood orange & tart cherry APPLE CIDER SANGRIA Chardonnay, ginger & spiced cider I chose the Pumpkin Spice Sangria, and my husband chose the Blood Sangria. We enjoyed both sangrias, but the Blood Sangria was so good we decided to buy a bottle to take home. McConnell Estates has a great venue, some pretty fine wine, and friendly staff. We'll be back.

I LOVE this winery and have been a member for about 3 years. They have so many great family-friendly events, with a good amount of adult-only events as well. We especially love the Haunted Hayrides events. During some Christmas you get to meet Santa and during Easter you meet the Easter bunny and get sent professional photos. Dog friendly for almost every event. The wine tastes amazing and is reasonably priced. The tastings offer fair pours and good variety. They have a BEAUTIFUL lawn area that has plenty of space to picnic on a blanket or at their tables and benches. It's very beginner friendly here and not snobby at all. The customer service is great, and we especially love Art. He has remembered my name since my first visit and always strikes up great conversation.

Love this place. Although we are not members, we visit a few time of year. Most recently, we tried the fireside tasting on a Sunday afternoon in January. We learned even more about this history of McConnell and found some new favorite wines. Sitting by the fire was a great way to experience the place. Staff are always helpful and accommodating.

What a beautiful winery and nice location. The wines were outstanding and the service was outstanding. We recently went to listen to a band on a Friday night and the weather was spectacular. They had a food truck and again the service and attention to detail was outstanding. The wines were so delicious and I had the rosé all I can say is WOW it was so wonderful and refreshing. The grounds are so lush.. I would highly recommend this 5 star winery on a Friday night and listen to live music or anytime. I can't wait to go back.

Love love love this place! They always have great events, which make fun for a super fun wine tasting experience. Everyone is super helpful and there's never a long wait. Everything is poured super fast, the staff is attentive. It's a great place for wine tasting with friends. They have a beautiful antique indoor sitting area and soooo much shade for outdoor sitting. A great place to have a little picnic and drink wine.

Glad we made reservations for Saturday at 3:30pm. It was packed and there was live music. We didn't see any children so assume it's an adults only winery. They had $10 classic tasting, $15 reserve tasting, and $30 cheese and wine tasting. We tried everything. The only wine that was good was the zin. It was semi sweet and had bold fruit flavor: all the other wines were either tannic or lacking flavor. My friend said the cheeses were better than the wines lol. I got to try some cheeses. They only have the cheese and wine flight that weekend we went. It was worth the $30. Service was fast and slow. It was a busy day though. We got to try an extra cab but it wasn't good. Will have to continue finding a good winery in Elk Grove.

McConnell Winery, Elk Grove, CA - July 7, 2023 We attended a reservation only "Barn Night" event at this winery that included a live band (Hipster Cocktail Party), a food truck (West Coast Tacos), and wine (McConnell's). The venue is spacious, with some shaded outdoor seating and covered indoor seating in the barn. The stage is fairly small at ground level, but it's sufficient for musicians to do their craft. Our friends had made reservations in advance, and we met them in the parking lot before walking in. We decided to sit in the barn area so that we would have plenty of shade. The wine bar is indoors in the barn as well. Servers come to your table and take your drink orders. Menus were at our table so we were able to figure out what our choices were. We decided to order a bottle of Tempernillo and a bottle of Chardonnay. I was happy with both choices. West Coast taco does a fantastic job. We got 4 carne asada tacos and 4 Anaheim Pig carnitas tacos that we shared as a group - $36. We ordered another bottle of Cabernet Savignon and that was very tasty as well. This is a fun venue to come to, and I would do it again!

As I exited my vehicle I heard some old school music and immediately noticed the vibe! This is a hidden gem in Sacramento. UNBELIEVABLE!! We were greeted by Paul the manager. We assumed he was the owner because he was so friendly and greeted us so kindly. Paul served us popcorn lightly topped with olive and jalapeño oil. This was amazing. I really need to recognize Paul. He checked on us often even though there were many people here. My wife and I talked about it and ended up joining their membership. The wine is amazing. We even enjoyed the whites which we normally don't prefer. Paul suggested us to walk around and enjoy the winery area, which we did. It's so beautiful. We did run into Sandeep who was so nice. I was looking for a shirt that they didn't have in stock. I left and he came looking for us just to let me know he will have a shirt in my size for me on my next visit. I was pleasantly surprised to find out he was one of the owners of the Winery. We had an amazing experience on our first visit and definitely will not our last!

Shoutout to the West Sacramento/ Clarksburg area…read more... The Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg is a historic beet sugar refinery from 1934-1993 that has wine shops and tasting rooms for local wineries. They have over a dozen wineries. Wine tastings average $15 and most wineries waive the fee if you buy a bottle. They have wine shops in the main building and in the other building. Don't forget to walk back and to the right to the shops in the separate back building, there is 3-4 more wineries. Each winery are literal walled shops with their own seating areas. Temperature controlled which is nice on hot summer days. Each have their own wine tasting, food offerings, and special events. Old Sugar Mill is less than 15 minute drive from downtown Sacramento. The buildings are beautiful. They kept the historic brick walls and exterior. It has a modern shabby chic look. Three different brands owned the refinery. It all began in 1934 with Amalgamated, American Crystal Sugar Factory (1936-1982), and Delta Sugar (1983-1993). The sugar was refined by local Northern Californian grown beets. The buildings was renovated in 2000 for its current use. Awesome concept and beautiful architecture design. They also host weddings and events. They have a banquet room with slideshow equipment. There is also an outdoor lawn and adjoining paved patio area that is shaded in the afternoon by the buildings that would make for a gorgeous wedding venue. On hot summer days, the Delta breeze kicks in for instant cool down. No outside food are picnics are allowed. On the weekends, they have food trucks. Plus the majority of the wineries sell food (appetizers) as well. Also no pets are allowed (excluding service animals). The restrooms are located right by the front entrance.

They have many events here, including private events and wedding. The upcoming event is Port and Chocolate for Valentine's Day. That sounds so delicious. I loved chocolate and my husband is always up to trying another port. Parking- They have a private lot and we were able to easily find a parking spot right in-front of the entrance. Bathrooms- They have many stalls in the bathroom located to the left of the entrance. Temperature- It's cool inside, a little too cool for us today. It was 63 degrees out today and warm in the sun. I bet in the sweltering heat of our summers this is the perfect place to be. The Sugar Mill is an indoor venue. They have three different building with different wineries at this time. So, there is a little walking outside. Wine Barrels- You can buy half wine barrels for your garden for sale. Seating- They have lots of little seating areas. Inside they have a whole room with seating and nice decor. The tables are draped in white table cloths and there are stacks of wine barrels as the back drop. They have a palm court in the back and it's so quaint and beautiful. Perfect for sipping some wine slowly and chit chatting with friends. If you are looking to sit in the sun there is are a set of tables and chairs out back near the food truck. Ambiance- I love the location and building. It's an old Sugar Mill that produced sugar from sugar beets. That industry has now ended and it's now a place to visit many wineries. It's the only place that I know of that have numerous wineries and offer wine tasing for a minimum fee.
