We came here Saturday around 3:30pm. It wasn't that busy. There's outdoor and indoor seatings. $12 tasting fee for 6 wines. Cab Franc was the best wine. It was earthy and smooth. The rest were just ok so we got 2 bottles of the Cab Franc to waive the tasting fee to enjoy outside. Dog friendly. read more

Vannatta is a small boutique winery/vineyard located off Grantline Road in Elk Grove. Steve, the owner/winemaker, produces some very nice wines. In fact, his 2020 Resilienza Syrah was recently awarded "Best of Class" in the SF Chronicle Commercial Wine Competition. We have belonged to the wine club now for quite a few years, so we get to enjoy the wines on a regular basis. The winery itself is rustic, with outdoor and indoor seating. Steve has live music and other fun events on a regular basis, such as karaoke, flower design and other art classes, and NFL watch parties, just to name a few. Check the Vannatta Facebook page for events. There are some small snack type foods available for sale. Two other wineries are located nearby, so you can make a day of it if you want. Even if you don't live in Elk Grove, it is well worth a visit. read more

Two of us came to taste dry red wine on Labor Day 2025. I bought the Cabernet Franc Blend. It's a generic California wine that has no Cabernet bouquet, dominated by barrel flavor. We came to taste wine grapes, not wood (barrel), as all California wines tend to do. So sorry, but as a purist I cannot recommend buying this woody wine...I paid $35 for one bottle. I can get better tasting European or South American wines for that price. The best drink here is the Strawberry wine slush. read more

After doing some wine tasting at the nearby South Slope Wines, we were still "thirsty" and did a quick Yelp search for nearby wineries. Our search led us to Vannatta Winery, located less than a mile away! When we pulled into the parking lot, we were unsure of what we were getting ourselves into. However, once we made our way into the winery area, we were greeted by a quaint backyard setting. Upon entry, we were warmly greeted by an employee named Steve. Although we sat outside on the patio chairs, Steve did a great job of ensuring that he not only took care of the customers inside the establishment, but also kept the momentum going on our tasting as well. We loved every option on the wine tasting menu. In addition, Steve went above & beyond and provided us with a bonus tasting of his favorite selection. The wine at Vanatta Wine is delicious, so delicious that we purchased a bottle. We can't wait to enjoy hot summer nights with a bottle (or two) of vino at Vanatta Wine. read more

Lovely find in Elk Grove! I use Grant Line alot to go East and always seen Vannatta. Finally got a chance to visit and I am quite pleased. So glad to know there are wineries in the Elk Grove area with good wine and vibes. Went on Saturday close to 3pm. There was a good amount of parking. Seatings with the umbrellas for shade. The seating areas had trees for shade as well. You can't miss the tasting room! Met Steve, whom is the owner of Vannatta Wineries. Instantly greeted us and he was very cool to talk to, gave us information on the wines he makes and where they are from. Cathy is also very awesome! I loved learning the history of Vannatta and how they started. I enjoyed alot of their wines from the tasting. Standard starting with white then to reds. There are no sweet wines, so if you're a sweet wine drinker, this is not the place for you. Their prices are about average and no more than $32 for a bottle. The Sangiovese, Rose, and Rapture are my favorite! I also love that they support artists, kid friendly, dog friendly, and got lots of games to play. Vannatta also has live music on Fridays. There are also some cheese, crackers for sale along with drinks for kids to enjoy as well. Definitely a cool spot to come hang out at. read more

Quaint winery in the country that borders Wilton/Elk Grove. Found this winery a few years back from an invitation from friends who are members. Tasted all their wine on the list, which are heavy pours, and all very tasty. The winemaker Steve is friendly and knowledgeable. We have since become members and enjoy the laid back atmosphere and wonderful bands and singers they have for entertainment. We have met many wonderful people, who are now our friends here. Don't pass this great little winery and art gallery up, it's definitely worth a stop. read more

Cute place but the staff don't seem to take well to wine newbies. I told the employee I'd like a glass of whatever his favorite wine was and he almost seemed offended. He and a female employee insisted I choose red or white, and I told them I really had no preference. The interaction just got more and more uncomfortable, their disdain was palpable. Not wanting to go back in, I sent my boyfriend to grab my next glass. My boyfriend went in and ordered "something sweet." The employee told him they don't have anything sweet. He said "okay, well, just give me the sweetest thing you have." The employee told him there are wineries down the road that do that. Well trust me, if we hadn't been there for the band playing, we would have definitely taken our money down the road. read more

When we visit my parents, we look high and low for new wineries to check out. Who would have guessed there was one this good so close by? Tucked away at the end of a long driveway is this little tasting room and barrel room. It feels like a lost gem from a bygone era. Originally, if my memory serves me right from the story we were told, this winery was just the owner selling out of his garage. Now they actually have a lovely patio/garden space and a cozy tasting room to sip and enjoy in. It still has that feeling though of being that place where someone would sell you wine out of their garage. It has warmth, charm, and absolutely no pertinaciousness about their wine. Our server was very friendly and easy going. She chatted with us about the wine, the neighborhood, the history of the place, and just life in general. It felt like having a conversation with a friend in their covered patio on a nice day. The wine itself is quite good. Their focus here is on European style wines on small artisanal level. The care and time that goes into these wines is quite evident. There was a wine that we all liked, and my mom actually signed up for their wine club. The tastings are free, provided you make a purchase which I can almost guarantee you will. It is nice to know that such a good winery is just down the road next time I come to visit. read more

So glad I took that long and winding Sheldon Road under oak canopies to their "front door". Jamie greeted me so fantastically -- big hug! Steve was hurrying behind the poor on this Harvest Festival weekend. A good crowd but not overwhelming. Live music on the patio under shade and sunny, blue skies. Tiny feet tirelessly enjoyed their first time on the grape stomp while the adults savored reds and whites paired with handmade pizzas by Flour Dust Pizza Company. I sampled the Chardonnay 2015 -- peachy and tropical -- and the Batalla 2014 aged for 24 months in French Oak -- it's yummy! This is wine country the way I like it -- slow and easy. Many people I spoke with said, "It's my first time - it's amazing!" I agree and I'll definitely get back that way. Tastings are $5. If you purchase a bottle, the fee is deducted. If you drive along Grant Line Road, you may have seen a small sign on the road advertising wine tasting. Vannatta Wine is the winery portion located at the V. Beso Vineyard, and the proprietor is offering samples of his microwinery production that should not be missed. His upscale rustic tasting room is located at the back of the driveway. It is not easily seen from the road, but you can drive back as long as the gate is open. The owner converted part of the barrel storage into a small, but quaint tasting room. His specialty is Spanish wines, creating several Tempranillo blends that are similar to those now popular in Europe. I really enjoyed sampling the blends which help soften the Tempranillo profile and make an intriguing experience. I recommend stopping here before it becomes too busy and popular. The winery has several open air music events happening during the warmer months and is just too cute to pass up! It is always nice to see new wineries taking advantage of our local growing conditions and making wine that accentuates those specialties. read more

We have been members here for about a year and don't regret it for one second! They are always super friendly and seem genuinely happy to see us. Our 2 year old son and our dog are always welcomed. There are numerous games and coloring books inside, plus bocce and yard games outside. Jamie and Steve make you feel at home immediately, and their passion for wines shows in the quality of what they have to offer. A very nice, peaceful oasis of a tasting room tucked away near the Sheldon Inn. We really liked their wines, if you're familiar with other area wineries I would say the styles reminded me most of Jeremy in Lodi; a lot of smooth and delicious Tempranillo/Sangiovese based blends along with some really good whites (chard and reisling) and a cab. The wines were fruit forward and lush. I am hoping Elk Grove will continue to foster and attract more of this type of home grown beverage/food to go with Tilted Mash, Sage Mill, Boulevard, Flatland, OTP, etc. Forget the strip malls and chains and support good people following their passions, doing good things instead. read more
