My wife and I were in Chester on a late Saturday afternoon in September and decided to stop in at Taylor's Ice Cream Parlor. This is a nice little shop right in the heart of Chester. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is nicely decorated with college banners which I assume is from all the kids that have worked there over the years.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I got a pralines and cream cone and my wife had a cup of mint. Ice cream was very good! We were nearby so decided to explore Chester's "Main Street" while in the area. Parked the car and walked around. This was the last stop as we needed a sweet treat. This looks like a good old fashioned ice cream parlor so the name is certainly fitting. Maybe 3 tables with chairs inside and a few more outside. They sell a lot of flavors of ice cream from unicorn (berry ice cream based!) to seasonal flavors like apple pie. They also have sundaes, milkshakes, soft serves, ice cream cookies sandwiches, and maybe even more that I completely missed. Oh yes! And a vegan selection which was a pleasant surprise for my sister who is vegan. We ended up getting: Cookies and Cream (1 scoop) in a wafer cone - this was for one of my kids. A classic flavor and it was full of cookie chunks. Also, I just add that "one scoop" was HUGE and could have easily been 2 scoops. My kid wanted whipped cream on top and the server said it would be too high and we got a small cup full of whipped cream on the side. Soft serve (vanilla) in a cup - got this for my kid with the food allergies. Soft serve tends to be safe as long as you're not allergic to milk. He originally wanted a twist, but they only had soft serve at the time. He liked it fine and ate half (it's quite a lot of it for a 4 year old). Cookie Butter (1 scoop) in a cup [vegan] - my vegan sister got this to share with her husband. It's actually not listed on the board but the flavor she wanted was out (something about raspberry chocolate chunk). They said it was good but it did have a more crumbly texture and they said there was the flavor of banana in it. I wonder what the base is for their vegan ice cream! I didn't get anything for myself because I ended up eating half of the cookies and cream and finishing the soft serve. If I did? I'd probably try a seasonal flavor in a waffle cone. With the exceptional service and great value and taste of the ice cream, this is definitely the place to go if you're nearby. I'd definitely go again if I had the chance. Their multitude of ice cream flavors and the diversity of flavors I saw people ordering seemed to suggest that everything they make is good. They do have vegan ice cream options. They said they were coconut based. I had the chocolate peanut butter vegan it didn't taste like coconut at all which was good for me because I don't like coconut. It was delicious and 6.50. I expect that nowadays but including $.35 for a plain cone? I guess that helps the margin but feels like a nickel and dime I was disappointed when my 35 cent cone was served within a plastic cone Maybe this is a thing at ice cream shops now but I sure hope not. Maybe just increase the price of the cone or stop using single use plastic cones which probably cost $.35 each piece. i suggest asking the customer if they want the plastic around their cone or if they're willing to let it drip. Was ready to give it 5 strong stars after my first visit but didn't get around to reviewing it until my second. Went from a strong 5 to a solid-ish 4. On my second visit, I violated my own cardinal rule. Typically, when I go to an ice cream place and the flavor I want is getting low, I usually walk out. Decided not to in this case and paid the price. Got their signature flavor (fudge brownie ripple or whatever it is called) truly spectacular the first time. Great chewy brownies, silky smooth ice cream. Close to perfection. Second time around it was a bit on the icy side and not nearly as good. I know I broke my own rule but if you don't want to be judged on bottom-of-the-barrel ice cream - yank out the tub when it gets low. Just such a letdown after the first experience. Wanted to do something a little different with the kids tonight so I looked up the best ice cream in NJ. Saw that this was #4/100 and only 30 minutes away so we jumped in the car. Definitely did not disappoint! Ample parking (a big deal in the middle of Chester) was the first star. Great atmosphere and friendly staff (second star). Absolutely huge (if not a bit intimidating) selection was the third. Fourth and fifth were the actual ice cream itself! Incredible texture - smooth, creamy, no ice crystals, slightly melty so that it's a little like gelato. The quality of the chocolate was fantastic. A little pricey, but you're paying for more than a dish of ice cream; you're paying for an experience. We were able to sit and have a wonderful conversation with the kids while we ate without being rushed. I know that this last part is beyond the ability of the business to provide, but the atmosphere was just right for a great evening. Will definitely be back! 10/10 would recommend. read more

Still thinking about this delicious ice cream! Taylor's is the perfect place to grab a cone to enjoy while strolling down Main street in Chester. The selection is huge with every and any flavor imaginable. All of the classics, and then some really funky flavors like yoohoo and unicorn. There are also alternatives like sherbert, dairy free and even dole whip. I was going to go cookie dough, but when I saw the cookie monster (cookie dough AND cookies and cream) I just had to go for it. Turns out my decision was a good one. The ice cream was stuffed with gobs of cookies and was truly decadent. The line moves quick and the staff was so sweet and pleasant. Overall, this was a really wonderful experience and is easily some of the best ice cream I've had. Can't wait to come back for more flavors, but it'll be hard to avoid getting that cookie monster again. read more

They don't sell child size ice cream in a cup, the smallest is huge and way too much for a 2-3 year old. Every other ice cream parlor I've been too in a 10 mile radius has small servings for little ones. Guess we'll have to stick with those, I'm getting a little bored with sharing plain vanilla with my date at Taylor's. read more

Out here in the streets of Chester, this is the place to be! My pal and I wanted dessert and hustled over before they closed only to find a long line outside! It was worth it in the end though, especially since they now have vegan flavors! I got a double scoop of chocolate on a sugar cone while my friend got a couple scoops of Smurf. We got ours to go but I finished mine before we even got home, no regrets! I may not be a Chester resident, but I've frequented Taylor's since I was a tween and I'm so grateful they now have vegan flavors so people like me with dietary restrictions can still enjoy this popping shop. read more

Definitely be prepared to wait in line if you come here in the evening. The line does move along but it will be long. They have a ton of flavors and about 8 different of kinds of cones to choose from. I ordered a scoop of chocolate peanut butter cookie dough. It was creamy chocolate ice cream with big chunks of chocolate covered cookie dough and globs of peanut butter. The PB added good flavor but it was a frozen rock which was very difficult to eat so I ended up throwing it away. Cookie Monster was also a hit in our group as was cotton candy. I have been to Taylor's Ice Cream Parlor several times but on my last trip I got there too early. They were closed and I was disappointed. Having a scheduled business meeting, I could not wait. This review is based upon my other visits. I like old fashioned ice cream parlors, call me a sentimentalist. Taylor's has all the ambiance of an old time ice cream establishment from the building outside to the stools in front of the counter. What I also like about their ice cream is that it is homemade. The texture is smooth not icy and there is a generous about of fruit , mint or chocolate chips. In my opinion that is what should generate the flavor. Portion size is competitive with most ice cream parlors and exceeds some others. Think, about $3.75 for a scoop. I like the fact that they have an extensive list of ice creams both hard and soft. The last time I visited Taylor's Ice cream parlor, I ordered a 20 oz. milk shake and that prompted my visit this time. I absolutely love ice cream. It's 100% my go-to dessert. I have to say, I was a little disappointed here. It wasn't all that hot a day, but inside the facility was quite warm. It doesn't have to be chilly inside, but I shouldn't be breaking a sweat either. Be that as it may, it's overlookable when one is about to have a (hopefully) delicious frozen treat. I went the with the peanut butter dough and was psyched for the option. Unfortunately, it tasted rather icy and watery, and I was beyond disappointed. My wife was super excited for the gluten-free cones on the menu. Unfortunately they were out of those as well. Bummer. The staff is certainly friendly. The shop is a beautiful throw-back. Almost like going to an old-school old-fashioned soda shop of yesteryear. Nice local shop. Unfortunately the product was so-so. Definitely not worthy of a trip from out of town. An absolutely adorable ice cream shop where you can get fancy cubes starting from $0.55-$1.25. They offer very standard process for their premium ice cream and believe me, they are very generous with their scoops. You can get milkshakes, ice cream sundaes and Italian ices. The staff are very welcoming in this wonderful and beautiful town. Considering the traffics flow, their tables were quite clean. The only suggestion I would give them is to move that one table by the second door leads in or out. Half the time people are trying to get in or out and the patron who's sitting there has to keep getting up. Maybe six tables there but there are outside benches. Great location and the menu selection looks fantastic, but the ordering/check out process was a complete cluster. Several orders were wrong and had to be redone, and the entire flow was managed by a bunch of kids who clearly weren't trained properly. That's before we even bit into the ice cream. Literally zero cookie inside the Cookie Monster ice cream, and the rest of the flavors lacked just that, flavor. The consistency was light, icy/gritty, and far from a creamy smooth texture you want in good homemade ice cream. We'll absolutely be going to Cliffs in Ledgewood from now on. And to the owner who replied. I would prefer not to call you about an ice cream order. To put it plainly, I will deal with a poor experience procuring a product that is good. Yours was not, unfortunately. I cannot give you any additional feedback other than make better, fresh tasting ice cream, that actually has the ingredients it should. Wow. Wow. Wow. To begin with, Taylor's Ice Cream Parlor has a huge list of ice cream flavors listed on the wall while it might seem overwhelming, you can sample your desired flavors. The price for speciality cone and scoops are so reasonable. I literally had sticker shock that two scoops of ice cream was only $3.95. That's generally how much one scoop of ice cream costs in the city. Not to mention you get such a huge generous helping of ice cream too! I ordered a tiramisu scoop thinking it was all blended together and a mild flavor. Instead, I was surprised to see a lovely layer of coco powder on top that fused nicely with the ice cream flavor. I also got the blueberry cheesecake which comes with large, legit chunks of cheesecake. Yum! The only negatives for me is that the shop does get a little warm and the tables were a little messy from previous eaters. However, it's not such a big deal since you can walk outside on a nice day and enjoy your ice cream. Will definitely be back! read more

Middle of winter, chilly air, drizzling precip, and a craving for a... milkshake? Good thing Taylor's was open and nearby, bypassing the need to make a DQ trip. We walked in shortly before dinnertime to an empty house. I went the vanilla shake route; my friend got devil's food chocolate in a sugar cone. We sat down at one of the tables, enjoying the nice heat that was combatting the frozen stuff we were consuming, and watched as family after family joined us. Soon, all seats in the place were full. In February. I can only imagine how it is in the summer. I also hear they had a fire about a year ago and rebuilt to look nearly exactly the same. That's pretty great and shows how strong and resilient they are as a local Chester business! Prices are also fair. My shake was under $5, which is pretty on par, I think.
