My mother in law recently passed away after she had heart surgery. She was doing good but after three days we got the bad news that she suddenly passed away. Mccormick funeral services near me was one of three or four places we called with a million questions that we must have repeated a hundred times. Joe and Erin were who we spoke to and once we met and sat down to discuss how to move forward it went really well. We toured the facility and were able to have a simple service with a cremation, jewelry made specific to our mother and a beautiful music video throughout the celebration. My father unfortunately passed during the Covid crisis in April and we could not have services until June. We got to communicate with McCormick and Son from March to June and I have to say we made an excellent choice. We wanted to plan ahead since my father was terminal. We had initially contacted another local mortuary to get planning started so it would not be so hard to deal with when my father was called to heaven. I was told there wasn't anything that should be done now and we can just wait until the time came and then contact them. Luckily, that did not sit well so we decided to call McCormick and Son and see if we got the same answer. I am pleased to inform you that our intuition to call McCormick and Son was a decision we will never regret. I do not have enough time or space to let you know all the ways they were exceptional but I have a few! Michael, our first contact knew exactly what we wanted to plan from the beginning all the way to the end. He walked us through the beginning steps and took care of my father for all those weeks. The two young gentlemen who came to get my dad from his home after he passed were so gentle and polite. Joe, who we spoke with when we went into the mortuary to talk about the services, obviously knows and has answers for every question that came up. He was truly a godsend. He kept us calm and always gave us reassurance with such care. Very professional and I have to say loving to our family. Erin, who I spoke with several times was always so pleasant and always did what she said she would do. Never had to question anything. Ian, thank you for staying with us the evening of the viewing and welcoming our guests. There were so many things that I am sure I have missed. It may seem little to them but was so big to us and they came through every time. McCormick & Son Mortuaries did everything they could to make the process as easy for us as possible. They have several different options available and because of this we were able to make the choices that best honored the life of our loved one. They have wifi service available at their facility which is helpful if you're planning to use your devices for internet access, live streaming etc. They have an on-site chapel where we had the memorial service and they have a hearse that took the coffin to the cemetery where our loved one's remains were interred. What an amazing staff! As sad and vulnerable as we were, the staff at McCormick made the experience smooth, easy and beautiful. I felt as McCormicks were my family. They went above and beyond to accommodate our needs. I was impressed from day one. I met Michelle a few months before my mother passed away. Michelle helped me by customizing a pre-need package that was appropriate for our Mom. Then when the day came unexpectedly (sudden major heart attack), all I had to do was to make one phone call to McCormick mortuary. Although other mortuaries could not take us because of overcrowding, McCormick found a way to care for him until services could be arranged due to Covid. We did not have a pre-plan, but they worked closely with us to educate and console us. The mortuary manager, Rebecca, was very personal, compassionate, and cordial. She helped us through the whole process and decisions that needed to be made. They coordinated with all parties, and maintained a low but very professional presence. It's taken me some time to write this review as I did not want to write it off strong feelings and try not to write negative reviews. However I feel like our experience should not be passed up lightly as it is still something that bothers me today. My grandmother passed away last year. Her husband is not my grandfather but "next of kin". My mother (daughter to my grandmother) and her sister were treated so terribly throughout this entire process. This was THEIR mother, MY grandmother. Being excluded from the decisions, the process and any information was one thing (also not something that would have been different at any other establishment). However what would have been different is the sympathy shown to them during the process. There was none. I mean none. Everything was cold, short and almost secretive. We had to call to ask questions and almost beg for answers. It made the entire process of losing our loved one even more upsetting and stressful than it already is. read more

The compassion I was shown by working with this mortuary was amazing. I was introduced to Freddy who walked me through all the details necessary for the burial of my father. Freddy was kind and soft-spoken, he answered every question clearly and concisely, as this was what was necessary for me to comprehend it all in my distraught state of mind. Freddy made sure all of my concerns were relieved in a very gentle manner. When the representatives from the mortuary came to take my dad from his home, they covered him with an American flag and walked him out of the house with amazing respect. Since the burial was to be at a cemetery a few miles away they transported my dad there by hearse. Ian, a representative of the mortuary accompanied him and stayed with us during the funeral service. It was a good thing Ian was by our side because the cemetery at Harbor Lawn-Mt. Olive Memorial Park in Costa Mesa, did not provide any personnel to assure that everything went smoothly. No one there even acknowledged our presence, we were on our own to find our way and use the speaker (without any instruction) they were to provide for our music. Ian definitely went above and beyond when helping us to navigate our way to the graveside and to use the microphone when we could not figure out the Bluetooth speaker. So I definitely would not recommend a burial at Harbor Lawn-Mt. Olive Memorial Park in Costa Mesa, I definitely would recommend McCormick and Sons in Laguna Woods to handle mortuary services. To extreme opposite sides of the spectrum when it came to compassion and service. read more

Hey, I read reviews, too... Mc Cormick runs their business with great integrity. The other two reviews (at this writing) are less than favorable, but my experience was a Godsend. One (of two) locations is in Laguna Woods, and yes, it's an old building. BUT...the people are caring and loving. They are respectful of wishes, avoiding the 'hard-sell'. If another reviewer sees that as 'pizza ordering', I found it low key. It is one of the last FAMILY OWNED AND RUN businesses, and they don't push the glitz and glamour, they are dignified and tasteful. I pre-arranged services, and every financial aspect was clear and understood. There were no 'surprises', just clarity. I don't know all the legalities of the mortuary business, but they handled everything TO PERFECTION, being the intermediary between me and the hospital with great tact and dignity. The day of the funeral, one of the Mc Cormick family members ( the "Son") stayed with my family ALL DAY to be of service (no extra charge). He moved flowers, helped the church members, stood quietly by to do anything he could to be of service. No detail was overlooked. I have heard so many disappointing stories from others surrounding this difficult time, so I am grateful to have Mc Cormick and Son (and Daughter!) on my side! read more

I have been meaning to post a review for quite some time. I first met the nice people at McCormick in 2017 for a relative's services, a person who was transported to Utah for her final resting place. Amazing experience with such kind and professional people and not creepy in the sense that I was kind of afraid of because that's what the experience seemed to be when I lost my dad decades ago and went somewhere else...I was young but it just left me with your classic impression of the whole thing being kind of commercial, cold and kinda creepy. When I met Rebecca and her staff tho in 2017 I remember telling her, "there's something different about you and about your business and if I ever have a need again, I'll be back because I'd want you walking by my side". I learned that she was one of the family members of the multiple generations of her family who have operated it. Someone else said it in a review - she is an angel. Seriously compassionate but with the right amount and the right touch. You absolutely feel like you are the only person they are focused on and they really have their bases covered in everything that they do. Sadly our family did need McCormick & Sons' services a couple of years ago but it really was such a comfort to everyone in the family to know Rebecca and her staff would be there and that we knew we'd be in good, competent and caring hands. And then the hardest loss came - my mom. It's not something one ever wants to go through but I can't begin to tell you how meaningful it was to know that the minute we picked up the phone we wouldn't have a thing to worry about and that the professionalism and warmth we needed would be there. The first 2 experiences were with people in my husband's family, so when I needed their services for my own family and needed to represent to them that I had the perfect place to help us, I knew things would go really well. McCormick & Sons has a ton of heart and soul into what they do and it shows in everything they do, and they're consistent through the years. I have a ton of friends and good support but there was something to special about coming in to take care of some of the things, or drop something off for mom - those times when I met with Rebecca I felt like I was meeting with my best friend, not a stranger or a business owner, and I can tell you everyone I met on her staff is that way.
