He remedied my car, replacing all parts on his dime and putting many, many hours in to bring my car back to pristine order. I just bought a 98' E39 BMW car with a ton of problems. I went to Matt McCoy and he addressed the issue but as he gets deeper and deeper, he discovered more problems on my third visit. He stopped doing anything and called me back to the shop. He told me that the car will not pass smog and it will die sometime because of the newly discovered faulty transmission. Hence, he did not charge me anything for that visit even though he replaced the vanous hose, oil pressure switch, and the crankcase ventilation system+ tons of labor hours. Instead he gave me tips on how to properly buy a car. He got empathy. They are super nice including his wife Alissa! Definitely trustworthy and a skilled technician! I can't thank Mr. McCoy and his team enough! Our 2015 Jetta has been quite the lemon, since purchasing used in fall of 2022 at a seemingly great price... and then sinking a couple grand more into it, with the check engine coming on 2 months later. We'll spare you the saga. Long story short: find a skilled, honest mechanic, and life with used cars is much easier. This is the automotive shop we were searching for. Went in for an oil change at 114,000 miles, got my heater issue looked at/diagnosed, brake fluid changed (badly needed it, tried to have another shop do this 5 months ago and they gave me the run around... see review on Hensley's, unfortunately: BOO.) AND my front running light - finally replaced at pennies cost versus an entire headlight assembly (BOO dealership and Hensley's). All at reasonable, fair pricing. My bill was under $400.00. I'm very grateful for this business. It feels like our trusted Swedish Auto in Novato. Our first modern car is now feeling like less of a mistake, now that we've found McCoy's. Wow--these guys were fantastic. I had made an appointment with them for the first time for my Audi and a few days before I even arrived I had another issue with my car. So I called McCoys to see if I could come in early--this wasn't really possible but the mechanic got on the phone with me for 20 minutes to tell me how I can fix the car until my appointment. I originally reached out to Matt Sr. at McCoy's after I accidentally removed a rear sub-frame bolt on my E93 vert. He was very thorough in explaining to me that it was not as serious as I thought it was, but even still I began to panic frantically. I did further research after we discussed it and then I decided to e-mail him some photos of what I was working with in order to remove all my doubts. I was surprised when he responded and told me to drop in so that he could take care of it free of charge! He also said he would do an inspection at the same time as a sort of a new customer/welcome to my shop kind of thing. I was extremely pleased since I had already called a few other shops prior and they all wanted to charge an hour labor or something outrageous. After Matt Sr. finished working on my car, which only took 1/2 hour at the most, we shot the shit for a while about cars and other stuff. My cousin and I had his 1996 Mercedes vehicle checked by Mike McCoy prior to my purchasing the vehicle. My cousin and I spoke to Mike on a conference call after he checked the vehicle. Mike McCoy claimed the vehicle was in excellent condition with the exception of the tail light assembly. He said he would order the assembly install it when it came in. This was a vehicle he had repeatedly provided service for more than 20 years. Once purchased, I contacted him and he had no knowledge of the tail light assembly being broken. When asked about the car alarm not working he claimed the vehicle didn't have an alarm. After the car was purchased it required more that $5000 in repairs. I went elsewhere. Matt is amazing. He took care of me and my car in every way. I was in Santa Rosa from out of town and had a breakdown on a Sunday and I was still able to reach Matt, who gave me a quote over the phone and perfectly described the issue with my car. I was able to drop my car off on Sunday afternoon, leave my key in his dropbox, and he had the car ready by the end of the day Monday. He was very communicative and despite me being out of town while the work was being done, I never felt out of the loop. I had a spare key so he locked my key inside the car and I did an after hours pick up, but Matt offered to leave the key in a secure box for me to retrieve if that wasn't an option. Very nice people who I really appreciated getting me in quickly for a time-sensitive repair (window regulator broke, leaving my window down and unable to close right before a holiday week with rain expected). I saved quite a bit over what the dealer quoted and everything works great now. They also did a courtesy check on other items and alerted me to some issues I should be aware of. My car was broken down for a couple of days and the dealership did not help until they had an appointment which was a month from now. I was scared to take my Audi to a local shop but thank god I found McCoy's German Auto. I called in to see if they had time to inspect what was going on and the sweet lady said to bring it in that same day. super sweet and kind. I really cannot thank Mat enough!! I'm new to the area and was searching for a BMW mechanic blindly. I am so thankful I picked up the phone and called. He was beyond helpful from the first time we spoke and then I saw that he was a Master Technician at BMW for many years which made me even more happy with my choice. He walked me through gathering a few pieces of info and was able to give me a quote over the phone. It was a semi major repair and he scheduled an appointment right away. When I got there rather than just doing the expensive replacement right away he wanted to make sure it wasn't something simpler (and cheaper) --such as a fuse. Then he did something that blew my mind this day and age--- he called the dealership and found out for me that there was recall on a part for my specific model & year!! Sent me there to an adviser and they will be replacing it for FREE!!! He could of done it himself and charged me (like - unfortunately - some people would do!) Wow, what a positive experience. Mat loves what he does, is supremely knowledgeable, and might be the most honest German car expert I've ever had the pleasure of interacting with. My service tale: I blew a spark plug out of the engine in my '89 Porsche 944 S2 (my fault) while on a road trip. This was in rural northern CA, about 200 miles north of Mat's shop. The AAA flatbed left it at his shop on a Sunday night, and I crossed my fingers that based on the positive reviews, Mat would be able to squeeze me in the following day. I spoke to him Monday morning as soon as he opened, and he told me he'd have me back on the road by the afternoon. Huge sigh of relief, and from his first words I got the sense that he's honest and an expert. Not only did he make good on his promise, he also gave me a quick tour of his shop, pointing out a few really cool projects he's worked on over the years. The kicker is that he charged a very reasonable price for the repair, knowing he had my feet to the fire. He did a fantastic job with my old Porsche and I'd trust him with any car. I'm only sorry that I don't live closer so he could be my go-to mechanic for everything I don't do on my own. read more

Okay, I've used their services 3 times already and so far I have never had a problem with McCoys. My last mechanic was a nightmare. But I think I've finally found THE ONE. I'm a customer for life. Matt is very thorough, does a complete check of your car and tells you exactly what needs to be fixed and he gives you honest answers to your questions. My car is running smoother than ever. Best part... He does all cars! Not just German. Haha, I know it seems silly to think otherwise but I was worried he only did German cars since it is called "McCoys GERMAN auto". At first I did think it was a little pricey, but if you want quality you have to pay. Plus, what they charge is not a whole lot more than other mechanics.
